The toothbrush is a common thing that most people use every day, but how much do you really know about this simple tool? Believe it or not, the toothbrush has a very long and interesting history.
The first toothbrushes were actually small twigs (嫩枝) that people would chew (咀嚼) on one end to soften the bristles (短而硬的纤维). These bristles were then used to clean their teeth.
The first “modern” toothbrushes were made in China around 1498. These toothbrushes were made of pig hair and were much more comfortable to use than the twigs. In 1780, William Addis of England came up with the idea of making small holes in a bone and putting bristles into the holes. He then fixed the bristles into the small holes in the bone, which served as the handle.. This design worked much better and quickly became very popular. In 1857, the first toothbrush that was produced in large numbers was created by H.N. Wadsworth. The first nylon toothbrush was created in 1938 by DuPont. Nylon bristles were much more effective at cleaning teeth than natural bristles and quickly became the standard (标准).
Today, toothbrushes come in all shapes and sizes and are made from all kinds of materials. You can even buy electric toothbrushes that do all the work for you!
Who would have thought that such a simple tool could have such an interesting history? The next time you search for your toothbrush, take a moment to think about all the people who have used a toothbrush before you and all the people who will use one after you.
21.What did people usually do with twigs before brushing their teeth with them?
A.They chewed on them. B.They cut them into two pieces.
C.They glued them to a handle. D.They made small holes on them.
22.What does the underlined word “effective” mean in Chinese?
23.What is the right order of the following events?
①The nylon toothbrush came out. ②Pig hair was used to make toothbrushes.
③Electric toothbrushes appeared. ④Toothbrushes with handles became popular.
A.①②④③ B.①④②③ C.②④①③ D.④①②③
24.What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
25.What is the best title for the passage?
A.The importance of the toothbrush B.Suggestions on using the toothbrush
C.Different opinions about the toothbrush D.The interesting history of the toothbrush
【答案】21.A 22.B 23.C 24.B 25.D
根据“The first toothbrushes were actually small twigs (嫩枝) that people would chew (咀嚼) on one end to soften the bristles (短而硬的纤维).” 故选A。
根据“Nylon bristles were much more effective at cleaning teeth than natural bristles and quickly became the standard (标准).”

根据“but how much do you really know about this seemingly simple tool? Believe it or not, the toothbrush has a very long and interesting history.”可知,本文主要介绍了牙刷的有趣历史,D选项“The interesting history of the toothbrush”最符合文章主旨。故选D。

The Mobile Phone and Our Life
The mobile phone, invented by Martin Cooper in 1973, has become an important part of our lives. It brings us many advantages. First, we can get information quickly. Second, we can read books and listen to music anytime. Also, it helps us stay connected with friends and family.
However, there are some disadvantages. Some people play too many games, which wastes time. Staring at the screen for a long time is bad for our eyes. Besides, overusing phones may reduce face-to-face communication.
In my opinion, we should use mobile phones properly. We must control our screen time and avoid addiction. If we use it wisely, the phone will make our life better, not worse.
