Planting trees is hard, but deeply rewarding work. One Tree Planted has planting projects in six global regions. Every reforestation (重新造林) project has a unique impact on forests, communities, biodiversity, and the environment. Here are our most recent highlights!
MONARCH BUTTERFLY HABITAT
Monarch butterfly populations have been reducing over time. This is mainly because their winter habitats in California and Mexico are being destroyed. Pesticide use and extreme weather caused by climate change are also harming them.
By planting native tree species, we can help protect vital monarch nesting grounds, restore damaged lands, protect vital ecosystem services for nearby communities, and more. So far, a total of 2.67 million trees have been planted in Mexico for Monarchs.
FRUIT TREES CHANGE LIVES
Much of our work in India is focused on planting fruit trees to fight hunger, improve local economics, and address climate change. Each fruit tree we plant equals at least $10 in food and nutrition yearly.
Besides economic benefits, planting trees also boosts ecology and health. India struggles with poor air quality. Trees, which clean the air, trap pollutants, and provide oxygen over their lifetimes.
FOREST FIRE RESTORATION
California’s forests need active management to improve their health, reduce the risk of major wildfires, and protect this beautiful natural playground for future generations.
So far, we’ve planted over 4.4 million trees in California, but there’s still more work to do. Working with partners like the U. S. Forest Service and private landowners, we’re helping wildfire recovery efforts at all levels.
1. Why is planting native tree species important for Monarchs?
A. It protects their winter home. B. It reduces chemical pollution.
C. It keeps invasive species away. D. It shelters them from bad weather.
2. What makes the project in India different from the other two?
A. It’s good for ecology. B. It raises local income.
C. It’s a long-term process. D. It prevents air pollution.
3. What’s the purpose of this page on the One Tree Planted website?
A. To introduce the organization.
B. To list some benefits of planting trees.
C. To share its successful cases of reforestation.
D. To invite readers to get involved in the program.

Purnota Dutta, an MBA from India, took a break from her career in 2010, spending time with her newborn daughter. This life-changing time led her to found Cuddles Foundation — a nonprofit organization focused on providing food and nutrition (营养) to poor children battling cancer in government cancer hospitals.
At the hospital, she saw so many children with cancer, and a baby who was around the same age as her child. Moved by what she saw, Purnota spoke to the social worker about how she could extend support to these children. While they had enough financial resources for treatment, they needed money for nutrition.
The couple did their best to meet their essential requirements. However, it soon surpassed what they could afford, and they started tapping into their networks to raise money. At first, Cuddles Foundation joined hands with Dr Brijesh Arora, who was leading the program for nutrition for children with cancer in India. “Then came Unlimited India, which got me on board as an investee (被投资者),” she adds..
At present, Cuddles Foundation’s FoodHeals programme bridges the nutrition gap in children with cancer in 35 government and charity hospitals in 20 cities across India. Over the past year, it provided nutrition guidance to over 6,000 patients.
Swara is among many children supported by the foundation. The five-year-old from Baramati was diagnosed with cancer. Her father had spent all of his savings on her medical tests and travel. After a year of regular guidance and nutrition support, Swara has entered the recovery stage of treatment and is back home in Baramati.
She hopes, with the support of more partners, Cuddle Foundation will be able to reach its great aims.
4. What’s Purnota’s purpose to establish Cuddles Foundation?
A. To provide school children with food. B. To support the cancer hospitals.
C. To help poor children with cancer. D. To collect money to change her life.
5. Which of the following can replace “surpassed” in paragraph 3?
A. made up. B. used up. C. gave away. D. went beyond.
6. Where can you find the data reflecting the achievement of Cuddles Foundation?
A. In paragraph 2. B. In paragraph 3. C. In paragraph 4. D. In paragraph 5.
7. Why does the author mention Swara?
A. To show Cuddles Foundation is helpful.
B. To draw readers’ concern for her.
C. To inspire more children to join the Foundation.
D. To attract more partners for the Foundation.

Forget to bring your charger? What if your clothing could generate electricity from the heat your body naturally produces? This futuristic concept is becoming a reality.
Scientists at Chalmers University and Linköping University in Sweden have developed a new yarn (纱线) that can generate electricity from body heat, using a polymer coating (聚合物涂层) applied to ordinary silk yarn. The principle is the thermoelectric effect (热电效应), where temperature differences between the human body and its surrounding environment create electrical energy. As the human body produces constant heat, the warmer side of the thermoelectric material transfers electrons to the colder side, generating an electrical current.
“The polymers that we use are bendable, lightweight and easy to use in both liquid and solid form. They are also harmless,” says study first author Mariavittoria Craighero. Unlike previous attempts at creating thermoelectric textiles, this breakthrough solves a long-standing problem: the lack of air-stable polymers.
“The new type of polymer has outstanding performance stability in contact with air while at the same time having a very good ability to conduct electricity. By using polymers, we don't need any rare earth metals, which are common in electronics,” explains Craighero.
The new thermoelectric yarn could power sensors in clothing to monitor vital signs like heart rate and body temperature without needing battery changes or recharging. Beyond healthcare, it could enable lowpower functions in smart clothing, such as environmental sensing and location tracking. As power conversion efficiency improves, more power-demanding features can be supported.
While the new polymers mark a major step forward in thermoelectric textiles, it's important to note that the temperature differences in lab tests are much higher than those typically experienced in everyday clothing. As a result, real-world performance may be lower. Moreover, the yarn generates only 0. 67 microwatts at a 70-degree temperature difference, which is far too little to charge devices like smartphones. The manufacturing process is also time-consuming, requiring four days of manual work to create one piece, making it impractical for large-scale commercial production.
8. How does the new approach generate electricity?
A. By recycling the flow of air.
B. By absorbing the energy of sunlight.
C. By heating the surrounding environment.
D. By making use of temperature differences.
9. What advantage do the new polymers have over previous materials?
A. Lower costs. B. Greater safety. C. Higher stability. D. Less weight.
10. What can we learn about the new yarn from paragraph 5?
A. It needs to be charged regularly.
B. It has broad application prospects.
C. It is designed for medical treatment.
D. It will be launched into the market soon.
11. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The limitations of putting the polymers into practical use.
B. The standard of producing the new textile.
C. The potential of the polymers in powering devices.
D. The follow-up test plan of scientists.

In contemporary society, we find ourselves at a curious crossroads regarding solitude (独处) . Recent studies reveal a significant increase in solitary living, with more individuals choosing to dine, travel, and reside alone than at any point in recorded history. While mental health experts rightly highlight the dangers of chronic (慢性的) loneliness, this important discussion often overlooks a crucial distinction - the difference between involuntary isolation and what psychologists term “positive solitude,” a restorative state associated with enhanced well-being and personal growth.
Actually, solitude has various benefits confirmed both by academic study and personal experiences. Quality alone time serves as an emotional reset button, offering space for self-reflection and psychological recovery. The commercial sector has taken note, with an emerging market for solitude-enhancing products and spaces. Yet despite these indicators of value, cultural prejudices persist, particularly in societies that equate constant connectivity with success.
The critical factor determining solitude’s impact lies in its quality and intentionality. Passive digital consumption-particularly the endless browsing through social media feeds-fails to deliver solitude’s psychological benefits. Authentic solitude requires deliberate disconnection: periods dedicated to self-directed activities, uninterrupted reflection, and emotional self-adjustment. This explains the paradox (矛盾) where many recognize solitude’s importance for mental health yet struggle to experience its restorative effects.
Younger generations face particular challenges in this regard, often replacing meaningful solitude with virtual interactions. The path forward involves thoughtful reframing-regarding alone time as “self-connection rather than isolation, and understanding solitude as complementary (相互补充的) to social needs rather than oppositional”.
In our hyper-connected age, the growing preference for solitude may represent not social withdrawal, but a natural correction to constant connectivity-an attempt to reclaim the quiet spaces where we reconnect with our authentic selves. As we navigate this complex field, it becomes increasingly clear that the ability to be comfortably alone is not just a personal preference, but a vital life skill for maintaining psychological balance in an increasingly demanding world.
12. What do we know about mental health experts in paragraph 1?
A. They believe loneliness enhances well-being.
B. They fail to distinguish different types of solitude.
C. They hold solitary living is on the rise.
D. They regard solitude as involuntary isolation.
13. Which of the following belongs to quality alone time?
A. Periods dedicated to surfing the Internet. B. Time spent in emotional restoration.
C. Periods dedicated to seeking products. D. Time spent in connectivity with success.
14. According to paragraph 4, what is the key difference between viewing solitude as “self-connection” versus “isolation”?
A. Self-connection suggests a positive chosen state.
B. Self-connection implies profound social interaction
C. Isolation is more scientific and beneficial to us.
D. Isolation can coexist with social interaction.
15. Which of the following would be the best title for the article?
A. What is the definition of solitude? B. Why should we remain alone in the digital age?
C. Why alone time is good for you? D. How should we boost the power of solitude?

Don’t Let Personality Types Define You
Personality tests, especially the Myers-Briggs type indicator (MBTI), are popular tools that many people use to better understand themselves and their relationships with others. MBTI sorts people into 16 different personality types based on four key categories. ___16___
The MBTI system provides a simple way to categorize individuals based on their preferences. But people are complex. Our personalities can change over time, depending on experiences and growth. What the MBTI test reveals is just a snapshot of one’s preferences, not a complete definition of who you are. For example, if the test labels (贴标签) you as an “introvert (内向的人)”, you may feel tempted to avoid social communication because you think it’s not in your nature to be outgoing. But you might find that your ability to enjoy social events increases over time. ___17___ You should see it as a starting point for self-reflection and growth.
Similarly, if you are categorized as a “thinking” type, it might lead you to believe that you are always rational (理性的), while neglecting your “feeling” side. ___18___ Emotional response is also an essential part of human nature, and embracing them can enhance your decision-making process and relationships.
___19___. They might think, for instance, that an “introvert” would not be a good leader. But there are countless examples of introverts succeeding in these types of roles. Many introverts achieve success through careful listening and thoughtful decision-making. Don’t let the MBTI label stop you from pursuing opportunities that feel right for you.
Finally, one of the most important lessons we can learn from the MBTI is that we are not defined by one test or label. The test results should be seen as a guide, not a limitation. By focusing on our strengths and embracing the full complexity of our personalities, we can lead richer and more fulfilling lives. ___20___
A. We are all more than the labels we receive.
B. The key is not to accept the label as an unchangeable fact.
C. However, it’s essential to understand that both parts are valuable.
D. We must admit emotion’s significant role in personal development.
E. Try to focus on your strengths rather than worry about your weaknesses.
F. Additionally, many people believe their “type” restricts their career or life choices.
G. Although these tests can provide useful insights, they shouldn’t define or limit you.
