B Confucianism (儒家思想) has been followed by Chinese people for more than two thousand years. To help people understand how to behave towards others, Confucianism teaches the Five Constants (五常). These are ren, yi, li, zhi and xin. They are general virtues (美德) around the world. The most important two are ren and li. Ren is the feeling of care and love we should have for others. Confucius explained ren could best be understood as loving others. He is famous for teaching people “What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others”. It is quite similar to what is known in the West as the Golden Rule (treat others as you wish to be treated). While the meaning of ren is easy to understand, li is a little harder to express. It can be thought of as duty or even respect. Generally, li is the way we should connect with people in our everyday life. In Confucian writings, discussions about li include the proper way to drink tea and how to remember ancestors (祖先). While ren is mostly about our opinions and feelings, li is about how we express our opinions and feelings towards others and towards the world around us. Perhaps the most well-known Confucian virtue is xiao. This is the duty children have to their parents. Xiao means loving, respecting, obeying and taking care of one’s parents in their old age. In Confucianism, xiao is important for a harmonious (和谐的) society: without it, the whole world would fall into a mess. 24.What is the best Chinese for the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3? D.Its golden rules. C ①Climate change is happening. It is having a strong effect on areas of the world. ②Other than causing terrible storms in some places or periods of no rain for months at a time in other places, climate change has influenced the temperature of the sea near land. When the temperature of the sea changes, this influences sea animals. People who make their living in some way from the sea will have a hard time as the sea animals begin to die off. On top of this, higher temperatures are causing ice mountains to melt, which is causing sea levels around the world to rise. ③Rising sea levels are a big problem. As areas of land beside the sea go under the water, the animals that used to live in these areas are forced to find new homes. Freshwater lakes located near the seas also become filled with salt water. In addition to these lakes, certain lands that are normally wet but still above sea level become flooded. These lands are necessary for the environment because they can help take out some kinds of poisons (毒物) from water. They can also slow down or stop flooding of dry land above them. Because of the rising sea levels, some places that did not experience floods before, like farms far from the sea, now get flooded. ④Rising sea levels also have a big effect on how people live. For example, when the sea level rises and the salt water moves higher up on the land, it can go into the ground and get into areas where people get the fresh water they drink. Water from the sea is bad for cars, trucks, and boats. Bridges and roads can also be hurt by water from the sea. The walls people build to keep water out of cities and towns are in trouble, too. 27.How does the rising temperature influence sea animals? A.It makes them disappear. B.It makes them change their colors C.It makes them change their shapes D.It makes them find their new homes. 28.What can help keep the water clean according to the text? A.Salt. B.Wet lands. C.Sea animals. D.Farms far from the sea. 29.What does the underlined word “it” refer to in Paragraph 4? A.The rain. B.The sea level. C.The salt water. D.The fresh water. 30.What is the structure of the text? (P=Paragraph) A. B. C. D. D “I didn’t understand then what he meant. The three of them were desperately (不顾一切地) pulling and pushing at the boat, and calling each other names, but something was wrong with the ropes and the boat wouldn’t move. I stood away from them, watching the sea, black and calm and deadly. My head was full of ideas, and I was thinking hard, but I couldn’t see any chance of survival for us. You think I’m a coward (懦夫), because I just stood there, but what would you do? You can’t tell—nobody can. I needed time…” He was breathing quickly. He was not speaking to me, but seemed to be on trial (审判) in front of an unseen judge, who was responsible for his soul. This was a matter too difficult for the court of inquiry (调查法庭) to decide. It was about the true nature of life, about light and darkness, truth and lies, good and evil. As he spoke, his eyes shone. “Ever since I was a boy, I’ve been preparing myself for difficulties and danger. I was ready. I tell you! Ready for anything! But—‘and the light went out of his face’—this was so unexpected! Well, I’ll tell you the rest. As I was standing there on the bridge, the second engineer ran up and begged me to help them. I pushed him away, in fact I hit him. ‘Won’t you save your own life—you coward?’ he cried. Coward! That’s what he called me. Ha! Ha! Ha!” Jim threw himself back in his chair and laughed loudly. I had never heard anything as bitter (痛苦) as that noise. All around us on the veranda (游廊) conversation stopped. People stared at him. After a while he continued with his story. I was saying to the Patta (帕特纳号). “Sink! Go on, sink!” I wanted it to finish. Then in the sky I saw a big black thunder cloud coming towards us, and I knew the ship couldn’t survive a storm. I saw that George, the third engineer, had now joined the other three, who were still trying to get the boat lowered. Suddenly George fell backwards, and lay without moving on the deck. He was dead. Heart trouble, I think. And just then there was a loud crash as the captain and the two others managed to get the boat down into the water. They were in the boat, and I could hear them shouting from below, “Jump, George! Jump!” Jim trembled (颤抖) a little, and then sat very still, as he relived (再次体验) the awful moment. “There were eight hundred living people on that ship, and they were shouting for the one dead man to jump! ‘Jump, George, we’ll catch you!’ I felt the ship move—I thought she was going down, under me…” Jim put his hand to his head again, and paused for a moment. “I had jumped…it seems,” he added. His clear blue eyes looked miserably (痛苦地) at me, and I felt like an old man helplessly watching a childish disaster. “It seems you did,” I agreed. “When I was in the boat, I wished I could die. But I couldn’t go back. I’d jumped into an everlasting deep hole…” 31.Why did the three persons push and pull at the boat? A.The sea was too stormy. B.The boat was too heavy. D.Amused and in different. 34.Why did the author jump into the boat? A.He thought the ship was sinking. B.He wanted to save the other people. C.He was pushed by the engineer. D.He saw the storm coming. 35.Which of the following is the best title for the story? A.The Storm at Sea B.The Sinking of the Patna C.The Coward’s Fight D.A Hero’s Decision (二)阅读短文,并从下面方框的六个句子中选择五个还原到文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。 Teenagers need eight to ten hours of sleep per night. However, changes to the body’s sleep cycle make it difficult for teens to fall asleep early. Many cannot fall asleep until 10:30 p. m. or even later and most of them will feel sleepy if they have to get up too early. Scientists recommend that both middle and high schools begin no earlier than 8:30 a. m. 36 Here are some other advantages of later school start times: 37 When running late in the mornings, students are likely to go without breakfast. With an empty stomach, one finds it difficult to focus (集中) in class. When they are always in a hurry, students may form unhealthy eating habits. With extra time before going to school, students can eat a well-balanced breakfast and focus more on learning. Fewer behavioral problems Teens experience mood changes as a common result of this special period of life. 38 When they get enough sleep, students are calm and peaceful and their moods do not change suddenly. They’re less likely to feel worried, unhappy or get angry. For parents, children with more sleep are easier to live with. Better performance (表现) in study Sleep loss hurts attention, memory and brain development. Students with less sleep have difficulty paying attention in class and are likely to have lower grades. 39 They are also less likely to fall asleep in class and more able to understand what they learn. 40 It improves their chances of eating, behaving and performing better. A.More time to sleep. B.More time for a healthy breakfast. C.Less sleep may cause worries, stress and unhappiness. D.Later school start times support the natural needs of teenagers. E.In conclusion, starting school later helps students get a better night’s sleep. F.Students with enough sleep can be more energetic and more willing to learn. 第Ⅱ卷(非选择题,共55分) 四、词汇运用 (一)(共10小题,每小题1.5分,计15分) 阅读短文,从所给的单词中选出最恰当的并用其适当形式填空,使短文意思完整通顺。 take notice of,  gift,  heavy,  sit,  teach Yu Boya, a famous musician, lived in the State of Chu during the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC). It is found that 50% of them got just 4 to 7 hours’ sleep every day. But doctors say they need 8 to 9 hours. Almost 25% of the kids said they often fell asleep while they were watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products. “The results are very worrying,” said Dr. Chris, a British professor, “We call it ‘junk sleep’. It means you don’t get enough sleep and the quality of the sleep is low, too.” The survey found that quite a few of the kids felt tired each day because of the junk sleep, especially girls between 13 and 16. B. C. D. 【答案】27.A 28.B 29.C 30.A 【导语】本文主要介绍了气候变化导致了海平面的上升,从而对人类和动物的生存环境造成了影响。 27.细节理解题。根据“When the temperature of the sea changes, this influences sea animals. C.They couldn’t find the ropes. D.The ropes were broken. 32.What happened to George, the third engineer? A.He fell into the sea by accident. B.He died of heart trouble. C.He joined the author in the boat. D.He refused to help lower the boat. 33.How did the author feel about being called a “coward”? A.Proud and relaxed. B.Painful and ashamed. C.Mixed-up and angry. But do you know about “junk sleep”? A British survey shows that there are many electronic products in teenagers’ bedrooms. They are influencing teenagers’ sleep badly. The survey was done among 1,000 British kids from 12 to 16. Nearly all the teenagers have a phone, music player or TV in their bedrooms. And lots of them even have all the three. However, there will always be a ray of light in life, which cheers us up and helps us move forward. As for me, the light is the story of Helen Keller. When I was in deep trouble with my studies, feeling hopeless and wanting to give up, I came across her story. Helen, deaf and blind, never stopped struggling. She learned to read, write, and even speak with great effort. Her strong will and perseverance deeply moved me. I realized that if she could overcome such huge challenges, I could surely deal with my little study problems. So I picked myself up and worked harder. I think Helen Keller’s Story is like a bright star in the dark sky, always guiding and inspiring me to face difficulties bravely. [亮点词汇] ①come across偶遇 ②struggle奋斗 ③perseverance毅力 ④pick oneself up振作起来 [高分句型] ①However, there will always be a ray of light in life, which cheers us up and helps us move forward.(which引导的定语从句) ②I think Helen Keller’s Story is like a bright star in the dark sky, always guiding and inspiring me to face difficulties bravely.(省略that的宾语从句;现在分词作状语) 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
