The newest of these is called Tianti (“Sky Ladder” in Chinese). It is 551 feet long (168 meters) and crosses two cliffs at a height of 5,000 feet. The attraction is located on Mount Tianmen in Zhangjiajie Nature Park, in southwestern China’s Hunan province.
“The feet in this video are mine, and that kid is my son,” said He Qian, whose Tianti climbing video went viral (走红) on Douyin. And her videos have attracted tens of thousands of likes and shares. In He Qian’s video, she showed her feet on the ladder and then slowly turned to her nine-year-old son. He Qian sat on the ladder calmly. “I was not nervous, my son was,” she said, “but he was all right soon later.” He Qian runs a hotel nearby, where she also helps people book tickets for the new attraction. “Those who like to challenge themselves like doing this,” she added. “I’ve helped plenty of people get their tickets.”
Yuan Xiaorui, the manager of the company that operates the attraction on Mount Tianmen, told CNN that the three-hour experience costs 580 yuan ($80). “The coaches will stay with the visitors all the time,” Yuan said. “The visitors are also equipped with helmets (头盔), safety belts, and hiking backpacks.” Yuan added that the whole area is regularly checked and any problems found would be solved in time.

Learning to be polite in a new language isn’t easy. Every language has special ways to show respect, ____12____
One simple way to make your English sound more polite is to use modal (情态) verbs. You probably already know modal verbs like “could”, “would”, “might” and “shall”. While these verbs are used to talk about ability or possibility, they’re also a great way to make your English sound softer and more polite, ____13____ For example, asking someone “Do you want to have dinner with me?” sounds direct. But if you use a modal verb—“Would you like to have dinner with me?”—it sounds much nicer. ____14____ “Could you open the window, please?” sounds much softer than just “Open the window, please.”
Another way to sound more polite in English is to use the passive voice (被动语态). This is useful in situations where it might be rude to directly point out someone’s actions or mistakes. For example, “The computer wasn’t turned off.” sounds nicer than “Bob forgot to turn off the computer.”
____15____ For example, when you check into a hotel, the staff might ask, “Did you need any help with your luggage?” Even though the past tense is usually used to describe things that have already happened, in this case, it’s a polite way to ask if you need help with your luggage.
These tips will help make your English sound more considerate (体贴的) and respectful.
A. especially when you are asking questions.
B. You can also use the past tense (过去时).
C. Modal verbs are also used when you make requests.
D. When you make requests, you must use modal verbs.
E. and knowing how to use these rules can make a big difference.

【13题详解】
根据前文“While these verbs are used to talk about ability or possibility, they’re also a great way to make your English sound softer and more polite”可知,情态动词不仅用于谈论能力或可能性,还能让英语听起来更柔和、更礼貌,空格处应进一步说明在特定情况下(如提问时)使用情态动词的效果。选项A“尤其是当你提问的时候。”符合语境,故选A。
【14题详解】
根据后文““Could you open the window, please?” sounds much softer than just “Open the window, please.””可知,此处是在举例说明使用情态动词提出请求会让语气更柔和,空格处应是对这一点的总结或进一步说明。选项C“当你提出请求时,也会使用情态动词。”符合语境,说明了情态动词在提出请求时的应用,故选C。
【15题详解】
根据后文“For example, when you check into a hotel, the staff might ask, ‘Did you need any help with your luggage?’”可知,此处是在举例说明使用过去时来提出礼貌的请求,空格处应引出这一话题。选项B“你也可以使用过去时。”符合语境,引出了使用过去时这一礼貌表达的方式,故选B。

Growing up is not just a happy process. 每个人都将会遇到各种各样的问题。The most important thing is facing them bravely (勇敢地) and learning from them.

____15____ For example when you check into a hotel, the staff might ask, “Did you need any help with your luggage?” Even though the past tense is usually used to describe things that have already happened, in this case, it’s a polite way to ask if you need help with your luggage.
These tips will help make your English sound more considerate (体贴的) and respectful.
A. especially when you are asking questions.
B. You can also use the past tense (过去时).
C. Modal verbs are also used when you make requests.
D. When you make requests, you must use modal verbs.
