1. Do you know “plogging”? It is a new fitness activity that started in Sweden. The word itself is a mixture of the Swedish term “plocka upp”, which means “pick up”, and the English word “jogging”— running slowly. The idea is simple: you carry a small rubbish bag, run at your normal speed, and collect any rubbish you see on the ground. In this way runners not only burn calories (卡路里) and strengthen muscles (肌肉), but help keep parks, streets and beaches clean.
2. Erik, a Swedish man, first used the word “plogging”. He says he invented the activity because he was tired of seeing rubbish as he went out to exercise. “I realized that if I just bent down once every hundred metres, I could pick up a hundred pieces of rubbish in a ten-kilometre run,” he explains. Erik began to share photos of his rubbish-filled bags on social media. And within weeks people all over Sweden were copying him. By 2023 plogging had been known to the world, with organised events taking place in more than fifty countries.
3. What makes plogging attractive is that it needs no special tools. A normal plastic shopping bag is enough. Besides, you can plog in the morning, at noon, after school or at any time of day. Many schools in Europe now organise weekly “plogging afternoons”. Students there run round the neighbourhood and weigh how much rubbish they have collected.
4. In China the idea is also catching on. Last spring, over two hundred pupils from Beijing took part in a five-kilometre plog along the river. In just one hour they removed 120 kg of waste, including 1,300 cigarette butts and 600 plastic cups. “At first I thought it would be boring,” said 14-year-old Liu Jie, “but when I saw the clean street behind me, I felt proud and full of energy.”
5. Health experts emphasize that the squatting (蹲下) can exercise the legs and muscles when picking up rubbish. Environmental scientists add that if every runner in Beijing plogged for only thirty minutes a week, the city could clear up more than fifteen tons of rubbish a year.
6. Plogging may not solve all environmental problems, but it is a small, practical step that anyone can take. So next time you put on your running shoes, why not take a bag with you?
【2025中考 Summary Cloze】
Being hard on yourself causes stress. However, 74 .Self-compassion means being kind to yourself. With its help, you will have more relaxation and a clearer mind so that 75 . Some think differently, but a study shows that 76 .To practice self-compassion, some 77 are suggested by experts.
1. When you make a mistake or say something wrong, it’s easy to be hard on yourself. Then stress is caused. Feelings of anger, disappointment and sadness come along. That’s why such stress needs to be dealt with.
2. Max, a 14-year-old boy, used to be very competitive and always felt stressed. Now he is learning to give himself care and kindness. When he doesn’t win or get the top marks, he talks to himself, “It’s OK not to be perfect.” He knows he always does his best and that is enough.
3. What Max does is called self-compassion(自我和解). With self-compassion, you treat yourself kindly like a friend, It allows you to forgive (原谅) yourself when you mess up or fail. After feelings of guilt(愧疚)go away, you get more relaxed and you can think more clearly. This way self-compassion makes you move forward. Many studies have shown it is of great help.
4. However, some disagree. They argue that self-compassion leads people to be less active. But Breines and Chen’s study had a different result. They gave students a difficult word test. The students were given the chance to study for a second test. They found those who were compassionate toward their failure spent more time preparing.
5. Experts suggest that you should write a letter to yourself, describing the situation that causes your pain and accepting how you feel. Or you can do something you like to make yourself feel at peace. Suzy Reading, a psychologist(心理学家), suggests using a “gentle touch” like placing one or both hands on your heart, so you will feel safe and loved.
