四、阅读理解(本大题共15小题,共30分)
A
Yesterday, my new upstairs neighbor knocked on my door. He said my cooking smells too “spicy” and it annoys him. I felt embarrassed, but also angry.
I cook at home after work, and I open a window to let the smell out, but it still goes up to his apartment. I think cooking smells are normal in apartments. I can try to be careful, but I don’t want to stop cooking.
This is not the only problem. When I watch something on my laptop, he bangs on his floor. His floor is right above me, and my volume is only a little high. I never play music late, but when he bangs on the floor, I get scared and it stresses me out.
He also watches TV late at night, and I can hear it through the ceiling. I have to sleep through it, but I haven’t complained because I don’t want to have a fight. It feels like his noise is fine, but mine is not.
I am not confrontational, so I’ve stayed quiet. I’ve started using headphones more. I can try to be quieter, but yesterday really made me angry. What should I do without causing a big fight? Should I write a calm note, or talk to the landlord?
26. Why did the speaker’s upstairs neighbor knock on the door?
A. He wanted to borrow something.
B. He was angry about the cooking smell.
C. He was annoyed by the loud music.

A new study shows that eating nuts every day may help people control their cravings for sweets and fast food. It may also encourage them to make healthier food choices.
The study was published in the journal Nutrients on December 2. Researchers followed a group of young adults who had a higher risk of health problems such as high blood pressure, belly fat and abnormal cholesterol. These problems can increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
During the 16-week study, the young adults ate mixed tree nuts every day between meals. After the study, many of them said they wanted sugary and salty snacks less often. They also felt less interested in fast food. At the same time, they ate more foods rich in protein, and their overall diet became healthier.
According to food expert Kezia Joy, nuts contain fat, protein and fiber. These nutrients are digested slowly, which helps keep blood sugar steady. As a result, people feel full for a longer time and are less likely to have strong food cravings.
Public health professor Jacqueline A. Vernarelli advised people to eat about a quarter cup of nuts each day. Almonds, cashews, walnuts, Brazil nuts and macadamia nuts are all good choices. She also suggested choosing whole nuts that are raw or dry-roasted. Unsalted nuts are better because salted ones may contain too much salt.
For people who are allergic to tree nuts, Vernarelli said seeds could be a healthy choice. Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds also provide healthy fat, protein and fiber.
31. What is the main purpose of the study?
A. To find new ways to lose weight quickly.
B. To study how nuts affect food cravings and diet.
C. To compare nuts with fast food.
D. To test different kinds of snacks.
32. Who took part in the study?
