Support Children with Vision Australia

Vision Australia is seeking dedicated volunteers to support our Children and Young People Client Services team. This role involves assisting in the creation and organization of tactile and sensory resources used by therapists working with children who are blind or have poor vision. By applying your craft skills, you will help produce engaging, accessible materials that support positive developmental outcomes for these children.

Role details

As a volunteer, you will:

-assist with craft-based tasks, including sewing and assembling tactile(触觉的)books and sensory items for group programs;

-maintain and clean resource materials to ensure they are safe and ready for use;

-sort and store resources in appropriate containers for easy access by staff;

-cooperate with staff to identify creative solutions for resource development.

Skills

The ideal volunteer will demonstrate the following features:

-Craft and sewing skills: Volunteers should have the ability to sew by hand or by machine and to work with various materials.

-Creativity and attention to detail: Volunteers should demonstrate design talent and a careful approach to crafting safe, durable, and child-appropriate items.

-Organizational skills: Volunteers should be able to sort, label, and store resources clearly and accessibly.

-Basic administrative skills: Volunteers should feel comfortable performing simple office tasks, such as preparing materials and packing kits.

-Teamwork and communication: Volunteers should be willing to cooperate with others, follow directions, and share ideas.

-Independence: Volunteers should be able to work independently once they have received orientation(培训).

-Awareness: It is desirable for volunteers to have some awareness of working with children aged 0-18 who are blind or have poor vision.

Time required

Volunteers are expected to commit up to four hours on one day per week or fortnight, with opportunities for both on-site and remote work. You can choose which day and what time you work, depending on your availability.
