I used to be very shy, so I usually just listened to other people’s conversations and didn’t dare to speak in public. My teacher Mrs. Smith always encouraged me to communicate with others.
One day, she told us that our class would put on a play she had written, “I need someone to play the lead role. Does anyone want to try?” she asked. A few hands were raised—mine wasn’t one of them. Mrs. Smith walked up to me and said. “I think you’re perfect for it, but you didn’t raise your hand.”
Me, the lead? Was she crazy? Mrs. Smith continued, “I was thinking of you when I created the role! If you really don’t want to, I won’t force you.” Suddenly, I thought it was time to deal with my shyness and show the world who I really was. I looked at Mrs. Smith and said, “OK, I’ll try.”
After five months of practicing, the big day finally arrived. My knees shook and my heart beat as if I’d just run a mile. “It doesn’t matter how the performance will be,” said Mrs. Smith. “You’ve already shown yourself how wonderful you are. That’s the most important thing. No matter how your performance will be, I will be proud of you.”
I smiled because I knew she was right. When I stepped on the stage (舞台), I showed that I could take chances and be brave enough to make a big change for myself—a girl with new-found confidence (信心).

①What comes to your mind when you read the word “robot”? Many people imagine large, modern machines in car factories or think of supermen from science films. Few of us think about the past. In fact, people built machines with human abilities thousands of years ago.
②Philo, an ancient Greek inventor, built a robot thousands of years ago. If someone placed a cup in the robot’s hand, it would mix water and wine (葡萄酒) to make a drink. However, it wasn’t popular because people didn’t need robots to work at that time.
③Another ancient robot was a robotic arm called “The Claw”. Polybius, a Greek writer, wrote about it in 213 BC. It was built during a war with the Romans and it was hung over the city wall towards the sea. When a Roman ship came close, the arm picked up the front of it and lifted it into the air. Then the ship fell backward into the sea and sank. Again, we don’t know whether the machine was built, but it was possible with Ancient Greek technology.
④Leonardo da Vinci, the famous artist, loved designing robots. Few of his designs were built, but his plans were perfect. Mark Rosheim, a robot engineer, still learns from those ideas when he works! One of Leonardo da Vinci’s robots was a lion. He built it in 1515. It could walk and send flowers! In 2009, engineers used the plans to rebuild the robot lion. It worked very well.
⑤As time went by, more robots were built, and they could do more difficult and important work, such as driving a car, dancing and drawing a picture, etc. Although modern technology has moved on, these historical robots still amaze people today.

A. B. C. D.
39. What could Leonardo da Vinci’s robot lion do?
A. Run and jump. B. Talk and write.
C. Sing and dance. D. Walk and send flowers.
40. What is the main idea of the passage?

C. Robots are only used in wars. D. Modern robots are less useful.

China is making big efforts to help people control their weight and live healthier lives. The government has started a three-year “Weight Management Year” plan from 2024 to 2027 to fight against obesity (肥胖). Obesity can cause serious health problems. Here’s what you should know about the new guidelines:
First, it’s important to check your BMI (Body Mass Index). For adults, a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24. If your BMI is between 24 and 28, you are overweight. A BMI of 28 or more means you are obese. Also, doctors suggest measuring your waist (腰围). Men should keep their waist under 90 cm, and women under 85 cm.
Eating well is very important, and exercise is just as important! When it comes to food, choose whole grains like brown rice, fresh vegetables, and lean proteins (瘦蛋白) such as fish, chicken, or beans. Don’t eat fried foods and sugary snacks, and also eat less salt and oil.
For exercise, try to do 150-300 minutes of activities like walking, cycling, or dancing every week, and do strength exercises twice a week. If you sit for a long time while studying, stand up and stretch (拉伸) for 3-5 minutes every hour.
Besides diet and exercise, small daily habits can also make a big difference. Teens should sleep 7 hours every night because bad sleep can make them gain weight. Try to eat vegetables first, then meat, and finally rice or bread during a meal to control how much you eat.
Remember, losing weight isn’t about being perfect—just start with small changes, like drinking water instead of soda or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. With these easy steps, everyone can have a healthier future.
根据短文内容,判断句子正 (T)、误(F)。
41. The “Weight Management Year” plan in China is a two-year program starting from 2024.
42. For adults, a BMI of 25 means they are considered overweight.
43. Eating whole grains like brown rice, fresh vegetables, and lean proteins is very important.
44. The guidelines suggest doing strength exercises at least three times a week.
45. Teens should sleep 7 hours every night and try to control how much they eat during a meal.

It was a hot summer day, and we were all sitting in the classroom, waiting for our teacher to arrive. But when she walked in, she looked upset.
“I have some bad news,” she said. “Someone has stolen our class pet.” Our class pet was a little hamster (仓鼠) named Squeakers. We all loved him and took turns taking care of him each week.
Everyone in the class was upset. We couldn’t believe someone had done something like that. We all wanted to find out who did it, so we asked all the students if they had seen anything.
After a few minutes, we got some news about the lost hamster. One of the students in our class heard someone bragging (吹嘘) about stealing Squeakers. We told our teacher, and she called the headmaster.
The next day, the headmaster held a meeting of the whole school. He told everyone what had happened, and he asked the person who had stolen Squeakers to come forward and return him. At first, no one said anything. But then, several students in another class raised their hands. Then they led us to a locker (存物柜). Squeakers was there, safe and healthy.
We were all so happy to have him back. And we were even happier to see the kids who had taken him come forward and say sorry. They said they did it because they thought Squeakers was too cute.
The experience teaches us about working together and standing up for what’s right. We learn that even when things seem hopeless, there’s always a way to find a solution (解决办法). And we learn that sometimes people make mistakes, but they can always make things right again if they try.

【答案】
范文:
Every family has rules, and so does mine. Here are some of our important rules.
First, we must finish homework before dinner. This helps me focus on study and have free time later. Second, we need to help with housework. I usually clean my room and set the table. Third, we should respect each other and speak politely. Finally, we should go to bed by 10 p.m. to get enough rest.
I think these rules are helpful. They teach me responsibility and keep our home tidy and peaceful. At first, I felt they were strict, but now I understand they make our family life better. Rules are not just limits; they help us grow into better people.
