Paragraph 1:
Inspired by his own life story,David decided to do something for that boy,He went to the woman, who immediately recognised him because she had read his books and seen his pictures,David started to chat with her. He told her that what she said to her boy was not appropriate. Then he told her about the encouragement he once got from Mrs Brown. In the end,he said,"I couldn't have become a writer if I had believed I was good at nothing."
Paragraph 2:
The mother was ashamed when she heard that. She realised that she shouldn't have called her son stupid, which would make him lose confidence in himself. So she said,
"Thank you for your advice,I'll never say such things to him again,Instead,I'll find out what he's good at and encourage him,"The woman then left with the boy. Looking at the back of the boy,David felt relieved, hoping his action could make some difference to the boy.

M: So what have you been doing? You used to be a "D" student before,
W: I' ve joined a study group. Our members discuss all the difficult stuff, and we test each other all the time.
M: Great idea. Maybe you will have more time on weekends to go out with your friends. How did you find the study group?
W: I saw a notice on the message board at lunch one day. I decided to check it out, and now we meet once a week after our last class of the day.

W: Good. Next, you choose the temperature. Cold, warm, or hot. Just use cold for now, and I' ll deal with anything that needs to be washed in warmer temperatures.
M: And the spin cycle?
W: That is for how fast the machine turns. "Normal" is what you will be using for most of your clothes. "Heavy" is for your jeans and towels, "Light" is for your sheets and pillow cases, but I' ll do those for you.

W: You' re strange. Hey, is that the box on the shelf?
M: No, those are the Halloween decorations.
W: Ah! I just walked right into a spider web!
M: Did you know that even though almost all spiders have poison, less than one percent are harmful to humans?
W: Whatever! There are the Thanksgiving decorations, on that sofa,
M: There it is, under that bench. Can you hand me that pole by the ladder? I can use it to drag the box out.
W: Here you are. I'm going to stand on this chair until you' re ready to go back up to the living room.
M: Stop worrying. There are hardly any spiders down here. Trust me.
Text 10
Have you heard of the Golden Rule? The great Chinese philosopher Confucius taught this principle. It is a very important and well-known idea. The rule says not to do anything to other people that you would not want them to do to you. It is a very simple yet deep truth. Confucius possessed a lot of important wisdom like this,He encouraged many values like children respecting elders, people respecting their ancestors, and wives respecting husbands,He desired for these moral principles in people's lives and in the government of the country. He believed that people should develop their own personal rules instead of simply memorising rules of behaviour to follow. He also had a thoughtful way of teaching. Instead of presenting his ideas through arguments and reasoning,he taught his rules through personal examples. He himself studied hard and sought truth, dreams and a perfect personality. In short,Confucius aimed to establish a world of great harmony. For over two thousand years, his teachings and beliefs still have a great effect on Chinese culture. Many other cultures around the world have also been influenced to this day by these important moral teachings.

Mitchel Wu creates interesting stories using toy photography,a relatively new art form. He's taken photos for an impressive list of clients, including Disney,Marvel,Hot Wheels, and Hasbro. There's no limit to creativity, and Mitchel proves it through his unique work, providing a one-of-a-kind experience for clients worldwide.
While toy photography dates back to the 1800s,it didn't gain popularity until the 1970s.Around this time,a man by the name of David Levinthal became the father of miniature(微型画)photography.
Over time,it evolved into a global phenomenon mostly involving action figures and pop culture imagery. It's a diverse art form containing many themes and story ideas. Many artists draw inspiration from popular sources such as Disney movies,Star Wars, and Pokemon characters. With toy photography, the viewers, completely immersed in the story, feel like they're actually there,in a different land.
"For me,toy photography is really all about storytelling,”Mitchel says." Storytelling is what makes an image impactful,so my goal is to have my image just stop you in your tracks and make you think" Wow,what's going on here?.”
Mitchel was a wedding photographer in the beginning. In 2015,he realised that he needed to find something else. Right around the same time, his nephew who photographed toys as a hobby said,"Uncle Mitch, why don't you bring your camera and shoot some toys?"
Once he tried it out,he got hooked immediately. His nephew lent him a couple of Stormtrooper action figures, and from the very first click of the shutter(快门),he found it was something incredible.
What began as a hobby quickly became a new-found career for Mitchel. It's yet another story that motivates us to pursue our dreams because you never know where they'll take you.
It seems the only limits are the ones you create for yourself. Mitchel tries to keep breaking those limits and learn new techniques in his exciting career path. His story shows that you can create your path in life by following your heart and using your imagination.

跨学科 When Mark Twain first set eyes on Hawaii in 1866,he observed wild cats were everywhere and that all of them were fat, lazy, and sound asleep. Nearly 160 years later, however, those cats that so delighted Twain are now widely seen as a threat to the islands.
Cats were first brought to Hawaii by ship, where they fed on mice. As their number in their new home grew during the 19th century, birds started to disappear. At least 30 types of native birds went extinct between 1870 and 1930 because of cats, according to the US Geological Survey.
Hawaiian cats don't just threaten birds. Toxoplasmosis(弓形体病)is a disease caused by cats, and then contaminates soil and water through their waste. A new study found that two dolphins died of toxoplasmosis. From these findings the authors suggest that at least 60 dolphins have died of the disease over the past 30 years.
The great majority of the dolphins included in the study were killed by other means. But“ if they do become infected(感染)with toxoplasmosis, this study suggests that they die and they die quickly,"says Kristi West, one of the authors and director of the Health and Stranding Lab at the University of Hawaii.
What can be done? The law that could have directed Hawaii Invasive Species Council to kill cats using poisoned(下了毒的)food didn't pass in the state earlier this year. Animal-lovers use some medical methods to keep them from having baby cats. Ms West suggests that people have to stop deserting(抛 弃)these poor cats. She says,"It's not really a cat problem. It's a human problem."
32.新考法 What's the function of the first paragraph?
A. To tell us Twain's story. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To give us an example of cats. D. To show cats are threatened.
33.What does the underlined word "contaminates" mean in Paragraph 3?
A. Protects. B. Frees. C. Keeps. D. Pollutes.
34.What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. Dolphins are easy to get infected.
B. Dolphins are killed in other ways.
C. Toxoplasmosis is dangerous to dolphins.
D. Toxoplasmosis quickens death of dolphins.
35.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Humans should treat cats well. B. Cats are killed by poisoned food.
C.A law has been passed in the state. D. Animal-lovers' methods are helpful.

Last Saturday,David was taking a walk in the park near his home when he noticed a woman with a boy of about eight years old. When David passed them,he heard the woman yelling:"How stupid you are! You're good at nothing.” David stopped and looked at the little boy. The boy said nothing. He just stood there, looking upset.
David was reminded of his English teacher Mrs Brown in middle school. After he entered middle school, David lacked self-confidence because he was often made fun of by others. He was often told that he was good at nothing, which David believed.
But one day it all changed. That day, in an English writing class, Mrs Brown asked them to read a novel. They were asked to write a new chapter of the novel after they finished reading it. A few days later, David handed in his story. He didn't give it much thought. But the next day to his surprise, the comment "well done" from Brown came into view the moment he turned to the page where the story was written. When David read that, he almost burst into tears. He had never expected to be praised. He suddenly gained some self-confidence.
That day after he returned home, he wrote another short story and gave it to Mrs Brown the next morning. And again he was praised. David became very interested in writing. He often wrote short stories and asked Mrs Brown to read them and correct them for him. Mrs Brown always gave him good advice to improve them. One year later, David joined the school newspaper and became an editor of it. He gained his confidence and was hopeful about his future.
He succeeded in entering college and kept writing. Several years after graduating from college, he had his first book published, becoming famous as a writer in his country. And he owed his success to Mrs Brown's encouragement. Without her encouragement, his life might be very different now.
Paragraph 1:
Inspired by his own life story, David decided to do something for that boy._______
