Dear Sir or Madam,
Hearing that you are looking for a bilingual referee of this basketball friendship match, I am writing to apply for the position. I think I am qualified for this position for the following reasons.
Firstly, I have been a volunteer in our school sports meetings and am very familiar with the responsibilities of a sports referee. Besides, I am good at English and Chinese and have mastered a lot of English rules and regulations about basketball. Lastly, I can solve the conflicts between the two sides well. I will ensure that the match is fair.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

8.Desperate to keep the dog, Doris tried to convince her parents by praising the dog’s good behavior and expressing her love for it.
Doris knew it was time to say goodbye to the dog and felt rather worried. She was sitting alone in the living room, hugging a pillow and rocking back and forth on the edge of a chair. She was trying not to cry but she was not strong enough. Her face was wet and red, her eyes full of sadness. Just as Doris was at her lowest, her parents appeared from the doorway. With a smile on Mrs. Lacey's face, she said, " Honey, Papa and I have agreed to keep the puppy as a part of our family."
Doris put her hand to her mouth and couldn’t believe what she had heard. She looked at her parents surprisedly." Doris, you were right. He has brought so much happiness to us," Mrs. Lacey continued, " and I drove by the local animal shelter yesterday. The conditions there are quite poor. We can’t leave him there." Doris smiled with tears of happiness in her eyes and threw her arms around her parents. She knew they not only embraced the puppy into their family but also gave him a chance of a much happier life.

Dear Ryan,
Knowing that you intend to divide students into groups of two at random for the purpose of practicing oral English, I'd like to express my opinions about it.
Personally, I think it unwise to group students randomly, which is not based on their language competencies because those who are less skilled in English lack confidence and need more practice compared with the students who can speak fluent English. Therefore, my suggestion is that groups of students should be carefully divided according to their language abilities, thus enabling every student to practice in groups more efficiently.
I'd really appreciate it if you could take my suggestion into consideration.
Yours,
Li Hua

1.a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September
2.The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought.
3.When I was about give up ,Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend.
4.Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus turned around ,and looked at me with a big smile on his face. “we made it,”he said.
5.I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my bankcard.
6.A feeling of sadness washed over me.
7.I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message:“out of order . Sorry.”
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. Astonished and confused, he paced back and forth as he watched the crowd in line. Ultimately, he seemed to make a decision and approached me. “Forget it. Just go!” he gave me a sincere smile as well as nodded his head firmly. Touched immensely, I offered my heartfelt gratitude as I stepped onto the bus. “I will come back to Vienna several days later when I finish my conference.” I promised to him and waved goodbye.
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. Eager to pay the fare and express my thanks, I made an appointment with Gunter at a restaurant. “Glad to see you again, my dear friend!” I gave Gunter a big hug when I met him. I presented him with the fare and a small gift. “Never mind. It’s not a big deal.” Gunter cracked a smile. Over the conversation, we shared a lot, from life stories to family members, just like any other good friends. What moved me most is that it’s not the first time that Gunter has helped a stranger. He is always kind and generous to others, although life is hard to him. As the saying goes, “ Roses given, fragrance in hand.” In addition to the “love”, “help” is the most beautiful verb in the world.
