【原文】
Once, a young man called Tom had a long trip by train. As time went by, he started feeling bored. He took out his travel map and counted all the stops on his way. To his surprise, there were over 60 small stations. This made him feel impatient about all these stops. At every small station, he ran to the train staff and asked, “Why is it taking so long? How far is the next station?” The train staff, an old man with white hair, kindly invited him to sit in his small office. Tom said impatiently to the train staff. “The train had to stop at every stop. Don’t you think it’s boring to have so many stops before reaching the end? I just want to get to my station quickly.” The train staff smiled and said, “I have been working on this train for over thirty years. However, I never pay attention to those small stations. I only remember where I set off and where my journey ends. In between, I just focus on doing my job.” Tom lowered his head and started to think quietly. Life is the same. Even though we have many stops along the way, we don’t need to worry about each one. We just need to remember our goal and keep moving forward.
第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
I can’t believe my daughter is old enough for a cell phone already. I’m considering buying a cell phone for her, but I’m nervous. How can I keep her safe? Am I worrying too much?
—Nadine
You’re not worrying too much—that’s for sure.
Cell phones can bring bad results to kids. Research shows that all kids who are allowed to keep cell phones in their room overnight have replied to a late-night text message. It also shows that half of all kids say they are addicted (上瘾) to their cell phones and sleep badly because of that. Their parents agree, and 36% of parents say they have daily arguments (争吵) with their children about their cell phones.
So it’s normal to worry when your daughter is ready for her first cell phone, even if you think she is responsible (负责的). The cell phone is an instrument of connection. It allows people to stay in touch. However, it’s also a symbol of separation. It means the dangers in the outside world may do harm to your child, without you there to stop them.
Luckily, there’s something you and your daughter can do to avoid the risks. If your daughter agrees to some rules, you can give her one cell phone. The following are the rules I made for my kids. Why not make some like these?
·Never use it during meals, in class or after 9 pm.
·Always ask before sending a message, photo or video.
·Never give the phone number or home address to strangers.
·Leave the phone in the living room overnight.
·Don’t download apps (应用程序) without asking.
—Judy
21.Why did Nadine write to Judy?
A.To make friends with her. B.To ask for advice.
C.To give her some safety rules. D.To order a phone for her daughter.
22.Judy shows the bad results of cell phones by _________.
A.explaining reasons B.sharing her experiences
C.reporting research findings (研究发现) D.comparing them with other inventions
23.The underlined word “normal” means _________ in Chinese.
A.自私的 B.正常的 C.多余的 D.痛苦的
24.Which of the following is Judy’s opinion?
A.Kids shouldn’t take cell phones to school.
B.It’s okay for kids to use cell phones during meal.
C.Kids can decide who to send a photo or message to.
D.Kids shouldn’t keep cell phones near them for the night.
25.After reading Judy’s letter, Nadine would most probably ________.
A.feel more worried than before
B.search for the advantages of cell phones
C.refuse to buy a cell phone for her daughter
D.set some cell phone rules for her daughter

I was pleased at running away from Long John Silver though I knew he was still somewhere nearby on the island.
As I was trying to find a safer place to hide myself, I heard some men talking close by. It was Silver and Tom.
“I want you with me!” Silver shouted, “when we have the treasure, there’s gold for you too.” “No,” cried Tom, “I told you. I’m not a murderer. You’re guilty, all of you!” Sadly, these were the last words of Tom. It was a gunshot, Silver’s gun.

“Now, Jim, tell me, is that Flint’s ship?” he asked in fear, pointing to the ship which I ran away from.
“No, and Flint is dead. But there are some of Flint’s hands aboard.”
“Not a man…with one…leg?” Ben asked in a tremulous voice, with his pale face and scared eyes.
“You mean Silver? He once worked as a cook on the ship.” I added. “Now, he is also on the island to find Flint’s treasure. He wants to kill us and take over the ship!”
“Aye, that was his name, Long John Silver. The devil (魔鬼) couldn’t hold a lit candle to him,” he said, “I was on Flint’s ship when he buried (埋) the treasure, he and six strong seamen. But, when he returned, he himself alone, and the six all died. How he made it, not a man except him could make out. It was a battle, a murder, and a sudden death—him against six.”

In many countries, you must make your drone legal (合法) before you put it in the sky. Some countries also require drone owners to get third-party liability insurance (安全责任险). Even drones are prevented from flying in city areas to protect the right to privacy (隐私), and from entering “no-fly” areas, such as airports and government buildings. If a drone has been illegally checked to enter a no-fly area, it could be shot down by the government.
Today, drones play an important role in the war. As well as being used for watching, army drones have also been used to strike others or drop food and medical supplies. Along with cameras and sensors (传感器) that can feel body heat, search-and-save drones help locate missing people and animals. They’re used in hard-to-reach areas such as a thick forest, and can even search under rubble. Researchers are using them to watch endangered living things. Besides, drones can also help reforest areas destroyed by wildfires; tree seeds (种子) can be dropped across landscape that’s too dangerous for humans to arrive. They can help humans in other ways, too. For example, drones can be a more environmentally friendly delivery method. Maybe one day they send your online order to your door.
Army drones cost more than £12 million, but mini drones cost as little as £30. Most drones are operated by either a controller or a smartphone app, but some models can either turn around and go back to the user, or land by themselves with the help of GPS, sensors and software as well as cameras that help them avoid running into things. Perhaps one day we’ll take one to work and fly over rush-hour traffic without needing a pilot’s licence.
31.Why are the drones prevented from flying in city areas?
A.City areas are “no-fly” areas.
B.The owners of drones are illegal.
C.The drones have no third-party liability insurance.
D.People have rights to protect personal information.
32.What can we learn about the drones from Paragraph 2?
①Search-and-save drones can help to strike others.
②Missing people and animals can be located by some drones.
③Researchers watch the endangered living things with drones.
④Drones can reach some places that are too dangerous to arrive.
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④
33.What does the underlined word “delivery” mean in Chinese?
A.递送 B.观察 C.搜救 D.探测
34.How can drones avoid running into things?
A.Use GPS, sensors, software and cameras.
B.Use GPS, sensors, cameras and a controller.
C.Use sensors, a controller and some software.
D.Use sensors, a controller and a smartphone app.
35.What can we get according to the text?
A.It’s free to fly your drones in the sky.
B.Drones can be used to carry things to people in trouble.
C.We can use drones to cut down the trees in the thick forest.
D.Mini drones are much more expensive than army drones.

As OpenAI’s ChatGPT from the United States takes the tech world by storm. Miaoya Camera, a Chinese artificial intelligence portrait generator (人像生成器), swept across social media overnight with thousands of people lining up (排队) for an AI photo.

Du, 12 years old at the time, tried to solve the problem like any good scientist—first by 68 (do) a little research. That’s how she learned that 8 million tons of plastics end up in the oceans every year.
Then she got to work building something 69 could help solve the problem: a remote-operated vehicle (遥控潜水器), or ROV. Her ROV can move through water and find plastics on the ocean floor.
The actually cool part of Du’s ROV is the detection (探测) system. She uses a camera along with three different kinds of light 70 (find) the plastics. She also uses visible (可见的) light to find unnatural colors that might make the plastics stand out.
“She has a very good engineering sense to break down a problem 71 this and then go after it,” says engineer Casey Machado. “It sounds simple, but it’s a level of thinking that’s really amazing.”
Du started attending public events and workshops at a university when she was five years old, and so she picked up the engineering skills necessary to build her ROV. She says actually 72 (get) her ROV to move through water well was not easy. She failed many times, but she never gave up trying and testing.
When asked about future plans, she mentions wanting to address the effects of climate (气候) change. “I think there are a lot of problems that could 73 (solve) with new inventions,” says Du.
Du thanks her parents, who for years 74 (take) her to student outreach activities, for supporting her interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). She says she has been able to 75 (meet) students and scientists there.
“I know I want to be an engineer because I like building things to help solve world problems,” says Du. “But I’m not sure what kind of engineer I want to be yet.”

I moved away quickly and quietly. I ran fast, not thinking about the direction I was taking. ______. What it was, whether a bear or a man or a monkey? Silver himself appeared less terrible to me now.
As it was getting closer to me. It was a man. “Who are you?” I asked.
“Ben Gunn,” he answered. “I’m poor Ben Gunn, and I haven’t spoken with a man these three years. Who are you, mate?” “Jim,” I told him.

Anna Du was walking along the beach when she noticed plastics there. She reached down to pick them up, and quickly realized there were many 66 (many) tiny pieces than she could deal with. It seemed 67 (possible) to clean them all up.

—Judy

A.To make friends with her. B.To ask for advice.
C.To give her some safety rules. D.To order a phone for her daughter.
22.Judy shows the bad results of cell phones by _________.

A.Use GPS, sensors, software and cameras.
B.Use GPS, sensors, cameras and a controller.
C.Use sensors, a controller and some software.
D.Use sensors, a controller and a smartphone app.
35.What can we get according to the text?
A.It’s free to fly your drones in the sky.
B.Drones can be used to carry things to people in trouble.
C.We can use drones to cut down the trees in the thick forest.
D.Mini drones are much more expensive than army drones.

阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Anna Du was walking along the beach when she noticed plastics there. She reached down to pick them up, and quickly realized there were many 66 (many) tiny pieces than she could deal with. It seemed 67 (possible) to clean them all up.
