Over 45% of U.S.families have dogs. However, caring for a disabled pet, especially a blind one,can be really hard. After a dog named Kunde lost his eyesight, his owners turned to Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen(OEDK)at Rice University for help.A group of engineering students, known as Kunde's Friends—Adam Vuong, Cristiana De Sousa, Issy Tai and Santiago Brent—took up this challenge.
“Traditional tools for blind dogs are heavy or uncomfortable. Moreover, some designs even depend on the dog knocking into things to provide feedback, which is unsafe and inefficient." said Adam, "We want to make a tool that lets Kunde freely move around and explore his environment without stress."
The team's solution is a wearable vest(背心)with motors like those used in smartphones. The motors vibrate(震动)to warn Kunde when obstacles (障碍物)are near.A pair of special cameras fitted on the dog's head collects real-time distance(距离)information. The vest's vibrations change based on how close and where an obstacle is,helping Kunde turn safely.
The team faced many problems along the way. They had to make soft but strong covers for the electronics, keep the vest light, waterproof key parts, and make the design fit for Houston's hot weather.
The vest is still being tested on Kunde. While there's more work ahead to fully meet the customer's needs, the team has made exciting progress. "It's amazing to see how the students' creativity and teamwork could lead to positive change in someone's—or a dog's—life." Heather Bisesti, the team instructor, says.
( )56.Why did Kunde's owners turn to OEDK?
A.To raise awareness of pet disabilities.
B.To look for a solution to help the dog move around freely and safely.
C.To do research on blind dogs' behavior.
D.To check the dog's health condition.
( )57.How does the vest work?
A.By removing nearby obstacles.
B.By recording movements.
C.By giving warning signals through vibrations.
D.By controlling motors with a smartphone.
( )58.Paragraph 4 mainly focuses on .
A.the challenges the team met in developing the vest
B.how the vest was born
C.the materials the team used for the vest
D.why the team wanted to help Kunde
( )59.What is Heather's attitude towards the students' work?
A.Disappointed. B.Proud. C.Uninterested. D.Worried.

A.Better Tools for Disabled Pets B.A Dog's New Life
C.Kunde's Friends:An Engineering Project D.A Smart Vest Lets a Blind Dog 'See'

One thing that could help us to recover from tiredness is sleep. Studies show that the way people sleep at night decides the type of personality they have.Robert Phipps, a body language expert, has listed four sleeping positions that influence personality.
Worriers, who are under stress, are likely to sleep in the fetal position. This is the most common bedtime position.Nearly 58 percent of people sleep on their side with knees up and head down. The more they curl up,the more comfort they want.
The second most common position is the log.People sleep with a straight body, with arms at each side.Nearly 28 percent of people sleep this way and they often feel harder to move their body when they wake up."The longer you sleep like this, the more rigid your thinking is and you don't expect any changes to your life." says Robert.
Yearmer sleepers are next on the list.About 25 percent of people sleep in this style—on their side with arms stretched out in front, looking as if they are chasing a dream or perhaps being chased themselves. “Yearners are always expecting the best results.”Robert explains, “These people often wake up refreshed and are ready to face the challenges of the day ahead.”

population. They sleep face down on the stomach.According to Robert, ★ .This sleeping position
is the least comfortable, and people may wake up feeling tired and low on energy.
