I began learning languages at the age of five, when my parents sent me to an after-school French class at my primary school. My parents, who speak English, stressed using different languages at home — even Grandpa could speak a foreign language! I don’t remember much from those early classes, aside from learning different colours and days of the week over and over, but I do know that it was during these moments that I first discovered the joy of journeying away from my surroundings with words. Because in French class it was easy to imagine we were somewhere else, away-far away-from the present, which was a really attractive idea to a young child with a wild imagination.
I stuck with French as I grew up; it was one of those strong relationships that provides comfort. It wasn’t until I began learning Spanish (西班牙语) at age 11 that I experienced a more transformative (变化的) relationship with languages.
Looking back, it strikes me that Spanish, for me, was always about feelings. At the beginning the focus was on learning words and grammar to describe how I was feeling, but I somehow ended up with a language that helped me express myself better than my native language.
After years of studying Spanish at school, and living in Spain, my Spanish came to match, and perhaps even exceed(超过), my English. Despite having returned to the UK ten years ago, now I still often find myself stuck in English conversations, unable to express a thought or feeling with quite the same depth as I would be able to in Spanish.
Spanish affords me another kind of liveliness. I’m not just “in love”. To me, “te echo de menos” houses more feeling than “I miss you,” which takes me back to a time in my life that I miss a lot.
24. What is the author’s native language?
A. French. B. English. C. Spanish. D. Chinese.
25. Why did the author feel enjoyable in French class?
A. He could picture an amazing world. B. He had no homework to do.
C. He could turn to his parents for help. D. He found it similar to English.
26. How is Spanish different from other languages for the author?
A. It uses a host of simpler words. B. It leads to more misunderstanding.
C. It has more difficult grammar rules. D. It allows him to better express feelings.
27. What does the author want to say in the last paragraph?
A. He succeeded at the cost of hard work. B. Learning a language takes too much time.
C. Spanish brings the happy past into his mind. D. He often misses the vacation spent in the UK.

What are the limits of the human body? Is there a point at which it is physically impossible to do something?
“One thing we’ve all learned in the last 30 years or so is that just about anything is humanly possible,” says Dr. Jack Wilmore, author of Physiology (生理学) of Sport and Exercise. “As time goes by, I think you’ll see more records continue to fall in every sport. The talent pool is better than ever. With more and better athletes involved and competing, records will fall and new standards will be set.”
Many believed it was physically impossible for a human to run a mile in under four minutes, but Roger Bannister proved that theory wrong with a three-minute, 59-second mile in 1954. Today, sub-four-minute miles are considered routine even in high school. And Bob Beamon stretched human performance in the 1968 Olympics with his historic long jump of 8. 90 metres. In an event where a record is usually broken by mere inches, he broke the previous jump record by more than 21 inches, but even his record was broken in 1991.
One factor is now becoming more understood and popular: sports psychology (心理学). Getting inside the athlete’s head can be as effective as training and long workouts. According to Wilmore, the psychological aspect of sports has become more and more esteemed. He points out that most professional teams have hired (聘用) sports psychologists for their players.
In addition, every aspect of athletics-training, nutrition, injury treatment-is far better than it’s ever been. “Besides, children today tend to master one or two sports instead of participating in several as was common twenty-five years ago,” Wilmore says. “That means they start concentrating on a sport much earlier and more intensely (密集地), and they become much better at it.”
“There’s a lot we don’t know yet about the human body,” he adds. “And one of those things is the full range of human potential. It would be foolish to try and put limits on what the human body can do.”
28. Which of the following sentences will Wilmore probably agree with?
A. Athletes will become the most famous people. B. Athletes will continue to surprise us with their achievements.
C. It is preferable to set universal standards for athletes. D It is necessary for athletes to learn the limits of the body.
29. Why are Roger Bannister and Bob Beamon mentioned in paragraph 3?
A. To show some of the latest world records. B. To explain what athletes can achieve under stress.
C. To introduce two great athletes. D. To prove the limits of the body can be pushed.
30. What does the underlined word “esteemed” in paragraph 4 mean?
A valued B. similar C. traditional D. difficult
31. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The history of sports records broken by well-known athletes over time.
B. How sports psychology works to help athletes enhance their performance.
C. Human body’s potential can keep expanding with better training and support.
D. The differences between present-day athletes and those in earlier times.

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have led to significant breakthroughs in translation technologies. AI translation is useful in some situations. For example, helping teachers communicate with parents who speak a different language, or when travelling. Translation technology may even help protect endangered languages from disappearing by supporting online collections of literature. With AI-powered technology in these digital libraries, more people can appreciate these works.
But while technology can translate messages, it misses an important part of human communication — the cultural nuances (细微差别) behind the words. So, while AI translation can bridge language gaps and make communication easier, it’s important to be clear about the benefits and challenges it presents. Relying only on technology to translate between languages will finally lead to misunderstandings and a less rich human experience.
The new technology also comes with limitations. In 2019, workers at an immigration (移民) center in the United States used AI translation to deal with an asylum (庇护) case. The voice tool could not understand the applicant’s accent, and the person was kept there for six months without being able to explain clearly. In 2021, a police officer used Google Translate to ask a Spanish-speaking woman if he could search her car. The app chose a wrong word, which caused confusion.
Learning additional languages also stands out as one of the best ways to improve ourselves, with benefits for brain health, social skills, cultural understanding, and career opportunities. A study in 2022 found that people who speak more than one language have quicker minds and may delay brain aging. It also showed that learning several languages helps people respect and understand each other better.
While AI-powered translation technology has its uses, a great deal can be lost if we rely only on it to communicate. The nuances of languages, and what they say about different cultures, are difficult to communicate via translation tools. And the benefits of being bilingual (双语的) or multilingual — both personally and for the wider society — risk being lost if we don’t support second language learning.
32.What does paragraph 1 stress about AI translation?
A.Its literary value. B.Its advanced tools. C.Its future development. D.Its practical applications.
33.What can be inferred about AI translation from the examples in paragraph 3?
A.It takes little time to be reliable in daily life. B.It can make serious errors in important cases.
C.It works better with written texts than speech. D.It will replace human translators sooner or later.
34.Why is the 2022 study mentioned in the text?
A.To support a point. B.To stress a problem. C.To introduce a topic. D.To question a belief.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.AI Translation: The Technology Develops Fast B.Relying on Technology: The Costs Are Unseen
C.AI Era: Why We Still Need Language Learning D.Language Education: How AI Changes the Way We Learn

Active learning is much more effective than passive reading. Simply reading your notes is not enough. You need to actively engage with the material. Try to explain a concept in your own words as if you were teaching it to someone else. Create flashcards for key terms or dates. Draw diagrams or mind maps to connect ideas visually. ___38___.
Another powerful method is to practice remembering information. ___39___. Testing yourself forces your brain to recall the information, strengthening the neural pathways. You can use practice questions from your textbook, create your own quizzes, or ask a friend to test you.
Finally, don’t forget the importance of sleep. ___40___. When you sleep, your brain processes and consolidates the information you’ve learned during the day. Pulling an all-nighter might seem like a good idea, but it will likely leave you tired and less able to remember what you studied.
By following these strategies, you can study smarter, not just harder, and achieve better results.
A. Set a specific goal for each session
B. This means testing yourself on the material
C. While you study, it’s helpful to listen to music
D. It is important to create a concentrated study space

第二节(满分15分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
It was a rainy November morning. I knew if I didn't leave the house soon I would lose my temper with my husband, Joe. Joe offered to take me to work. I looked at the piles of newspapers and the dirty dishes still on the table. “Don’t you have enough to do? I can take care of myself.” I went out, not even kissing him good-bye. Joe shouted after me not to take the shortcut (捷径).
Joe and I had been eagerly looking forward to our retirement when a heart attack that past spring forced him to leave his job earlier than we had planned. As the medical bills mounted we realized I would have to continue working full-time while Joe stayed home and took over the housework.
The new arrangement was a disaster. Exhausted after a day of full work, all I wanted was a hot home cooked meal and a good night’s sleep. However, what greeted me at the table was a microwave package. One night when I dragged myself to bed, I was terrified to discover Joe had turned our white sheets blue. He told me he had found out how to save on water, soap and electricity. He patted his blue trousers and announced proudly washing everything together was just the secret.
Ten minutes later, ignoring Joe’s warning I turned off the main route (道路). I thought it hadn’t rained enough to flood the road, but as I rounded the corner water rushed across my path. After a few feet, the car got stuck. I opened the door and water poured in. I hurriedly closed the door. I couldn’t risk walking in this. Almost 20 minutes passed. The car began to shake. I got frightened to death when I heard three long honks (喇叭声).

Ten minutes later, ignoring Joe’s warning I turned off the main route(道路).

Looking over my shoulder, I stared into the flashing lights of a truck. ___________
Looking over my shoulder, I stared into the flashing lights of a truck. It was Joe! I couldn’t help bursting into tears. Joe shouted to me not to be frightened. Then he threw a thick rope so that I could hang on to it and walk straight toward him. He urged me to take one step at a time and assured me I could make it. I moved forward slowly and cautiously before I fell into his arms. Joe patted me saying his primary concern was my safety. Only then did I realize Joe actually understood how to take care of me despite his trouble with the housework. I hugged Joe tightly, happiness and love welling up inside me.
