Students from a high school in Changchun, Jilin, spent 129 days creating a relief mural (浮雕壁画). Their idea came from the famous painting “A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains” by Wang Ximeng. The mural was created on the wall of Changchun No.150 High School’s art classroom.
It was completed by 21 students from this school under the guidance of their teacher, Duan Yingzi. The mural is nearly 3.5 meters high and 11 meters long. This piece of artwork has amazed a lot of people on the Internet. According to the teacher, creating this mural is part of the school’s special lessons. The process of the creation includes drawing an outline (轮廓), making a relief, painting base colors, and then finishing the final artwork. Most of the students in this group had no painting experience. Their teacher helped them learn the painting skills and practice painting many times.
The teacher explained that the most difficult part of creating this mural was the color mixing. “It took us over a month to finish the outline and relief work. In the following two to three months, we focused on perfecting the color mixing,” she said. After trying again and again, they finally achieved this great goal.
Although there is a difference in color compared with that of Wang Ximeng’s painting, the students are still very pleased with the final result. The difference is not so significant (显著的). The work still looks very beautiful. “In the past, students could only see the artwork in books. And they were unable to fully experience its beauty. By drawing the painting, students can have a deeper understanding of the ancient Chinese artists’ wisdom (智慧),” Duan said.

The toothbrush is a common thing that most people use every day, but how much do you really know about this seemingly simple tool? Believe it or not, the toothbrush has a very long and interesting history.
The first toothbrushes were actually small twigs (嫩枝) that people would chew (咀嚼) on one end to soften the bristles (短而硬的纤维). These bristles were then used to clean their teeth. This may seem like a very ancient way of cleaning one’s teeth, but it actually did a pretty good job!
The first “modern” toothbrushes were made in China around 1498. These toothbrushes were made of pig hair and were much more comfortable to use than the twigs. In 1780, William Addis of England came up with the idea of making small holes in a bone and putting bristles into the holes. He then glued the bone to a handle (柄). This design worked much better than the twigs and pig hair brushes and quickly became very popular. In 1857, the first toothbrush that was produced in large numbers was created by H.N. Wadsworth. His toothbrush was made of bone and bristles and was very similar to William Addis’ design. The first nylon toothbrush was created in 1938 by DuPont. Nylon bristles were much more effective at cleaning teeth than natural bristles and quickly became the standard.
Today, toothbrushes come in all shapes and sizes and are made from all kinds of materials. You can even buy electric toothbrushes that do all the work for you!
Who would have thought that such a simple tool could have such an interesting history? The next time you reach for your toothbrush, take a moment to think about all the people who have used a toothbrush before you and all the people who will use one after you.
16. What did people usually do with the twigs before brushing their teeth with them?
A. They chewed on them. B. They cut them into two pieces.

例文
To Be a Better Man
To be a better man, we need to try hard in different parts of life.
In study, we should listen carefully in class and ask teachers for help when we’re stuck. Also, we must apply what we learn to solve real problems—it’s the key to “knowing and doing as one”. In daily life, we can keep small healthy habits, like getting up early and doing sports. These habits make our bodies strong and our minds clear. When making friends, we should be honest and kind. We can share joys and help each other out. A true friend makes us better.
By doing these, we’ll grow into better versions of ourselves.

A. On a poster at the school hall. B. On the classroom’s windows.
C. On a board at the school library. D. On the art classroom’s wall.

The next time you reach for your toothbrush take a moment to think about all the people who have used a toothbrush before you and all the people who will use one after you.
16. What did people usually do with the twigs before brushing their teeth with them?
A. They chewed on them. B. They cut them into two pieces.
C. They glued them to a handle. D. They made small holes on them.
17 The first toothbrush that was produced in large amounts was created by ________ .

①The nylon toothbrush came out.
②Pig hair was used to make toothbrushes.
