Many great inventions have changed the way we live. The first great invention is the one that is still very important today—the wheel. This makes it easier to carry heavy things and to travel long distances.
For a long time, there were few inventions as important as the wheel. Then, in the 1800s, people began to create things to make life better. In the second half of the 19th century, many great inventions were made. Among them were the camera, the electric light and the radio. They all play a big part in our daily lives today.
The first part of the 20th century saw more great inventions—the helicopter in 1907, movies with sound in 1927, jet planes in 1939 and the computer in 1946. It was also a time when a new material was first made—Nylon (尼龙), which came out in 1935. It changed the kind of clothes people wore.
The middle part of the 20th century brought new ways to help people get over diseases. They worked very well. They made people healthier and allowed them to live longer. By the 1960s, most people could expect to live to be at least 60.
By this time, most people in developed countries had a very good life. Of course, new inventions continued to be made. But man had a desire (渴望) to explore again. The Earth was known to man but stars were not. Man began looking for ways to go into space. Russia, the United States, China and Japan have made their own steps into space.
In 1969, man took his biggest step away from Earth. Americans first walked on the Moon. This is certainly just a beginning, though. New inventions will someday allow us to do things we have never yet dreamt of.

The first part of the 20th century saw more great inventions—the helicopter in 1907 movies with sound in 1927, jet planes in 1939 and the computer in 1946.
In 1969 man took his biggest step away from Earth. Americans first walked on the Moon. This is certainly just a beginning, though. New inventions will someday allow us to do things we have never yet dreamt of.

Of course, birds can fly except kiwis. Kiwis are birds, but they can’t fly. Kiwis can be as big as chickens. Like all birds, they lay eggs—big eggs. People call them kiwis because they make the sound: kee-wee. Kiwis live in New Zealand and are the national birds of the country.

You may often use the history button (按钮) and the bookmarks (书签) to remember your favourite websites. This is a way that you leave your digital footprints, so remember to clear the browser (浏览器) history regularly.
Remember to keep safe. Don’t put too much personal information online and always think carefully before you post something. Be careful about who you share personal information with and always think twice before sharing details like your home address or phone number with someone. If you want to post comments online, you don’t have to use your own name. Using a nickname instead of your own name and using a picture instead of a real photo will be safer.
