阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分】
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

There have always been a lot of commonly believed but false ideas about being fat and doing exercise. Some
people believe that they can't help putting on weight as they get older, while others hold that if they stop exercising,
their muscles will turn into fat. Here are some more myths
I'll never lose weight-I come from a fat family
Wrong! While we can't change the body type we are born with,we can't blame our genes for making us fat. There's
plenty of evidence that fatness runs in families, and the main reason is that they share the same habit of eating too
much and exercise too little.
I am fat because I burn calories slowly
Wrongl Fatness is not caused by a slow metabolism().In fact, although fat people consume more energy
than slim people, they also fail to realize how much they eat.Keeping a diary can help you work out your daily food
intake more accurately.
Exercise is boring
Wrong!Anything will become boring if you do it repetitively. The key is to develop a balanced and varied program
that's fun as well as progressive.If you enjoy a Sunday walk.take a different route.If you do yoga,try a tai chi class.If
you like swimming, set yourself a distance or time challenge.
No pain,no gain
Wrong!Exercise is not meant to hurt.Indeed, pain is your body telling you something's wrong.and continuing to
exercise could lead to serious injury. You may experience mild discomfort as you begin to exercise regularly, but this is
your body adapting to the positive changes in your lifestyle and the aches should disappear relatively quickly. If they
don't,rest and seek medical advice.

It was one of those terribly hot days in Baltimore.Needless to say,it was too hot to do anything outside. But it was
also scorching in our apartment. This was 1962,and I would not live in a place with an air conditioner for another ten
years. So my brother and I decided to leave the apartment to find someplace indoors. He suggested we could see a
movie.It was a brilliant plan.
Movie theaters were one of the few places you could sit all day and-most important-sit in air conditioning. In
those days, you could buy one ticket and sit through two movies. Then, the theater would show the same two movies
again. If you wanted to,you could sit through them twice. Most people did not do that, but the manager at our theater.
Mr.Bellow did not mind if you did.
That particular day,my brother and I sat through both movies twice, trying to escape the heat.We bought three
bags of popcorn and three sodas each. Then,we sat and watched The Music Man followed by The Man Who Shot
Liberty Valance. We'd already seen the second movie once before. It had been on at the theater since January, because
Mr.Bellow loved anything with John Wayne in it.
We left the theater around 8,Just before the evening shows began. But we returned the next day and saw the
same two movies again.twice more. And we did it the next day too. Finally,on the fourth day,the heat wave broke.
Still,to this day I can sing half the songs In The Music Man and recite half of John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart's
dialogue from The Man Who Shot Liberty Valancel Those memories are some of the few I have of the heat wave of

While Jennifer was at home taking an online exam for her business law class,a monitor (a few
hundred miles away was watching her every move.
Using a web camera equipped in Jennifer's Los Angeles apartment, the monitor in Phoenix tracked how
frequently her eyes moved from the computer screen and listened for the secret sounds of a possible helper in
the room. Her Internet access was locked-remotely-to prevent Internet searches, and her typing style was
analyzed to make sure she was who she said she was:Did she enter her student number at the same speed as
she had in the past?Or was she slowing down?
In the battle against cheating, this is the cutting edge and a key to encourage honesty in the booming
field of online education. The technology gives trust to the entire system,to the institution and to online
education in general.Only with solid measures against cheating, experts say,can Internet universities show
that their exams and diplomas are valid-that students haven't just searched the Internet to get the right
answers.
Although online classes have existed for more than a decade, the concern over cheating has become
sharper in the last year with the growth of "open online courses."Private colleges, public universities and
corporations are jumping into the online education field, spending millions of dollars to attract potential
students, while also taking steps to help guarantee honesty at a distance.
Aside from the web cameras,a number of other high-tech methods are becoming increasingly popular.
Among them are programs that check students'identities using personal information, such as the telephone
number they once used.
