A mom named Dianein New York has thanked her eldest son,Brian, for giving the gift of life back to her.
After being diagnosed with non-alcoholic chronic liver disease,Diane has waited on a transplant list for three
years.Upon learning his mother's condition,Brian requested donor screening."I wanted her to be around,"Brian
told ABC News."I wanted her to be with us for a very long time."Diane had gathered her family to explain ber
illness."We visually noticed she was getting thinner,lacked energy,and was often tired,"Brian recalled.Doctors
presented living donation as an option, providing materials for potential donors.Brian researched liver donation
thoroughly."I felt I could handle it physically and emotionally,"he said, contacting the living donor managers.
After screening.he was qualified as a perfect match.
At last,Dr.Abhinav Humar, the chief transplant surgeon, performed the successful transplant. He explained
Dianc's low transplant priority:"Her condition wasn't advanced enough for top listing.About 20%-25%of listed
patients die before reaching the top."He cmphasized living donation's life-saving role, noting livers regenerate
fully in both donor and recipient within weeks.
Nine months after donating a portion of his liver to his mother,Brian was cleared to start training for triathlons

Music is a powerful,evidence-based tool for promoting mental health. As one of the most accessible ways to
regulate our mental state,it is often underestimated for in its potential. It is time to accept the healing power of
music not only in clinical settings, but also in daily life.
We know music can stir emotions.ease nerves and make us cry.But research reveals it can also change the
content of our thoughts. In a 2019 study, participants listened to beroic or sad music while their minds wandered.
Uplifting music set off energizing and constructive thoughts, while sad music aroused calmer or more demotivaring
ones.
Our minds frequently wander, with daydreaming occupying nearly half of our waking time.Even pleasant
thoughts rarely improve mood significantly. Why?Because the brain's default mode network(DMN)supporting
imagination, memory and reflection often causcs repeated and negative thought circles.
Recent studies indicate that negative daydreams, especially when accompanied by sad music, engage the
brain's pain network and the DMN.Certain brain regions help regulate this link.Unsettling thoughts not only cause
mental discomfort but also activate the same brain regions responsible for physical pain.
Fortunately,the DMN has a natural counterpart:the control network,supporting focus and goal-directed
behaviour. These two systems are anti-correlated,meaning when one is active, the other quiets down.Music,
espccially when we engage actively can shift us into this adaptive mode, interrupting negative cycles and providing
a cognitive )"reset".A 2023 study found that people tapping to music felt less physical pain under pressure
than passive listeners, boosting pain-reducing effects to a clinically meaningful degree.
If music can do all this,it needs to be recognised as far more than the lifestyle nccessory.Music should be
integrated into schools, public health strategies, and daily routines. And music education should be seen as a way to
care for the brain and social medicine.Next time your stress begins to bite, try to turn to music instead of the news.
Your brain and socicty might thank you.
28.What did the 2019 study primarily find?

Titan,Saturn's largest moon,is blanketed in smog, rich in surface organic molecules ()However,its
surface is extremely cold,around-179C,making chemical reactions for life progress very slowly.
Scientists believe a vast liquid ocean, holding 12 times the volume of Earth's oceans combined, exists deep
underground where it's warmer.Similar oceans may exist on moons like Jupiter's moons Europa and Ganymede.
where there could be liquid water, often suggesting possible life.but researcher Catherine Neish and her team
challenge this idea.
Their research suggests that for Titan's ocean to support life,a significant amount of organic molecules from
the surface must reach it to start the chemistry needed for life. The main way this could happen is through comet
(impacts.Impacts melt surface ice, creating pools of water mixed with organics.Because liquid water is
denser than icc, these pools could sink. However,Neish's models show comet strikes are too infrequent to deliver
enough organic material.
Her team estimates only about 7,500 kilograms of simple amino acid (reach Titan's occan every year.
While this sounds substantial,it's equal to the mass of one male African elephant spread across an ocean with a
dozen times the volume of Earth's oceans, truly a drop in the ocean.Even in this most optimistic scenario, there's
not enough organics transported into Titan's occan to sustain lifo there.
Other possibilities exist, like some hot vents on the seafloor where water meets rock.making all kinds of
molecules erupt and set off complex chemical reactions that could support life.Could similar interal sources
provide organics on Titnn?Neish doesn't rule this out,but points out a concer:organics from Titan's interior
might be mostly molecules with exceptional stability, which ure difficult to transform into essential biological units
like amino acids.
While directly cxploring these oceans to find life is still far oft.Noish's research highlights the value of
NASA's planned Dragonfly mission to Titan. If Neish is correct,Drugonfly could find sites where comet impacts

Are you able to cook a healthy meal? Are you able to manage your money well? Are you able to sew on a
button?36This highlights a significant gap in modern education, which heavily prioritizes academic
achievement and strict testing, often at the expense of practical life skills.
Schools have done well in preparing us to be academic achievers in school, but may not have prepared us well
enough in developing life skills.37 For those without these basic skills, the pandemic lockdown was a rude
shock. With restaurants closed and home services stopped,it would have been satisfying to cook a meal or fix a
lignt bulb. It's a shame that schools produce scholarly individuals who are unprepared for simple home tasks.
38 For example, financial management fosters responsibility and caution, while lessons on investment
teach wealth growth.Equipped with this literacy, students can better discuss financial goals with parents, and
budgeting knowledge can steer them away from overspending. Thus,in our complex world.schools must teach
beyond academic subjects.
After all,all the responsibility cannot be transferred to the home. The argument for parents teaching practical
life skills overlooks modern realities. Many working parents lack the time, and some may not possess the
proficiency themselves.39.
Sandra Carey,a writer, puts it appropriatcly:"Never mistake knowledge for wisdom. One helps you make a
living;the other helps you make a life."School is not simply a place to pass knowledge and prepare us for a
career.40

When Chuck was 12 and was laughed at by neighbor's children because of the old house,he turned to his
