B The only thing separating my two worlds is the Rio Grande river— it might not be much, but it’s enough for me to feel a big difference in customs and values. People who are not from El Paso, Texas, United States or a border city might not understand what it's like to grow up between two places at once. I grew up in a Mexican household. My dad was born in El Paso but lived nearly his entire life in Ciudad Juárez until I was born, and my mom was born and raised in Mexico. She didn’t move to the US until she had me, when she was 28. My first language was Spanish, but my parents did not want me in bilingual classes. So, instead, it was all English for me at school. English was all I spoke among friends at school, while Spanish was the designated language with family, and I hardly ever mixed them. I also spent a lot of time with my maternal grandparents, who lived in Juárez and you could say helped raise and shape who I am today. It's thanks to them that I perfected my Spanish, learned to read and write in that language — despite never taking classes—and fell in love with my Mexican culture by traveling to Mexico City and around the country. Along with being bilingual came a sense of having a double identity. I enjoyed watching Spanish TV series with my grandma as much as American series such as The Amanda Show. And the same went for music. I loved listening to Spanish singers, as much as American pop singers. It wasn’t until high school that I began to meet other people whose backgrounds I could relate to. I was introduced to friends with whom I identified because they were Mexican American and who had also been raised in El Paso but often visited family in Juárez. It was also during these years that I started going out to party in Juárez. Growing up on the border is pretty special. Thanks to my bicultural upbringing, I learned to enjoy and appreciate both sides of me without ever questioning who I am, because the truth is that I need both of those relationships and cultural identities to feel complete. 24. What do we know about the author’s upbringing background? A. He was born in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. B. He attended school in the US from a young age. C. His parents were both born and raised in Mexico. D. He showed his bilingual ability to his classmates at school. 25. Who helped the author learn to read and write in Spanish? A. His grandparents. B. His parents. C. His teachers. D. His friends. 26. Why does the author mention the Spanish TV series and American series? A. To contrast the two styles of TV series. B. To illustrate the author's wide interests. C. To prove the author fits into both cultures well. D. To show grandma and the author have the same hobbies. 27. How does the author feel about his bicultural identity? A. Proud. B. Confused. C. Worried. D. Awkward C We’ve all been in a position where our phone runs out of battery, but we don’t have anywhere to charge it. Well, what if the clothing you were wearing could help you out? It’s an option that isn’t as strange as you might think. Now the latest fashion breakthrough is taking “activewear” in an entirely new direction: researchers at Nottingham Trent University have developed a new fabric that can keep small devices juiced. The prototype (样品) includes 1,200 tiny solar panels, each measuring just 5 by 1.5 millimeters. It can generate 400 milliwatts of electrical energy, enough to charge electronic devices. “Until now very few people have considered their clothing products could be used for charging electronic devices,” explains Theodore Hughes-Riley, an associate professor of Electronic Textiles. “The material which we have developed appears and behaves the same as any ordinary fabric, as it can be washed in a machine. Besides, because the tiny solar cells are comprised of silicon (硅), wearers aren’t able to even notice a discrepancy in the fabric’s composition when it is compared to standard clothing.” Potential products include items like outerwear, backpacks and other carrying bags using the material, all of which could allow wearers to keep their devices charged during the day. “Electronic fabrics really have the potential to change people’s relationship with technology, as this prototype has shown how we could do away with charging many devices on the wall,” adds Theodore. Solar power inventions are key to transitioning (转变) human society from fossil fuel technologies, and are coming into a variety of fields. The European Space Agency, for example, plans to experiment with solar panel systems orbiting above Earth. Since there are no real “days” or “nights” in space, potential solar power generation could be as much as 8 or 9 times greater than what’s currently achievable here on Earth’s surface. As powerful as that may one day be for us, it’s encouraging to know even changes like the composition of our clothing can help facilitate the necessary renewable energy shift for our species. 28. Why is the new fabric special? A It can change color in the sun. B. It can adjust body temperature. C. It can produce electricity from sunlight. D. It is much tougher than standard clothing. 29. What does the underlined word “discrepancy” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Distinction. B. Mismatch. C. Improvement. D. Similarity. 30. How does the invention impact our relationship with technology according to Theodore? A. By making electronic devices much cheaper. B. By reducing the demand for fixed charging equipment. C. By making us more aware of our energy consumption. D. By gradually increasing our dependence on electronic devices. 31. What is the best title for the passage? A. Solar-Powered Fabric: Charging Devices on the Go. B. Future Fabric Trends: Beyond Traditional Textiles. C. An Inventive Silicon: Recycling for Energy Efficiency. D. Traditional Fabric Technology: Challenges in Development. D In many people’s eyes, artist Mark Rothko's enormous paintings are nothing more than masses of color. Yet, a painting can be worth nearly $100 million. Besides, Pablo Picasso’s twisted faces attract some viewers but terrify others. Why does the phenomenon happen? The answer may lie in our brain networks. Researchers have now developed an algorithm(算法) that can predict art preference by analyzing how a person’s brain breaks down visual information and decides whether a painting is “good”. The findings show for the first time how basic features of a painting combine with human judgment to give art value in our minds. Most people, including researchers, consider art preference to be various, says Anjan Chatterjee, a neurologist(神经学家) at the University of Pennsylvania who was not involved in the study. In some cases, personal preference is rooted in biology. For instance, sugary foods help us survive. and people tend to share similar standards of beauty when it comes to human faces and landscapes. However, when it comes to art, we seem to care about and value relatively arbitrary(任意的) things, according to Chatterjee. To figure out how the brain forms value judgments about art, neuroscientist Kiyohito ligaya and his colleagues first asked more than 1,300 volunteers on the website Amazon Mechanical Turk to rate a selection of 825 paintings from four Western types including impressionism, cubism, abstract art and color field painting. Volunteers were all over the age of 18, but researchers didn't give exact information about their familiarity with art or their ethnic (种族的) or national origin. The researchers revealed that paintings preferred by the same groups of people tended to share certain visual characteristics. These characteristics all fell into two categories: “Low-level” characteristics, like contrast and color, were intrinsic (固有的) to an image; “High-level” characteristics, like the emotion a painting brought about, required human understanding. Once the method was trained, it could analyze these characteristics in new paintings and accurately predict which works a person would like. 32. What do the cases in Paragraph I mainly indicate? A. The value of different works of art. B. The characteristics of different artists. C. The importance of facial appearances. D. The differences in people's appreciation of beauty. 33. Which of the following ideas may Anjan Chatterjee support? A. People’s preference is mainly rooted in biology. B. People usually share common feelings towards scenery. C. Researchers’ art preference is different from others’. D. Art works have fewer arbitrary things to value 34. Which of the following factors was taken into account during the study? A. The identity of the participants. B. The background of the paintings. C. The wide range of paintings. D. The national origin of the participants. 35. What’s the last paragraph mainly about? A. The findings of the study. B. The researchers’ different viewpoints. C. The process of the study. D. The researchers’ prediction for related research. Amazing Benefits of Listening to Music If you love listening to music, you're in good company. No longer a shy first grader, he felt confident and ready to tackle new challenges. However, there was one person he hoped to avoid: Jessica Hart. She was loud, bossy, and always made fun of him. Even though it was a new year, Jared was sure she wouldn’t change. When he entered the classroom, he saw Jessica sitting by the window, laughing and talking loudly. Jared rolled his eyes and took a seat, hoping to stay out of her way. He focused on his work all day, determined to avoid any interaction with her. But fate, it seemed, had other plans. During recess (课间休息), as Jared was walking to the swings, he noticed Jessica standing by the big oak tree, her hands on her hips, looking upset. She was staring at something in the tree. Jared approached cautiously, wondering what was going on. “What’s wrong, Jessica?” he asked, trying to sound as uninterested as possible. Jessica looked up, her face filled with panic. “The kittens! They’re stuck in the tree!” Jared frowned, looking up at the tall oak. Sure enough, settled on one of the highest branches, were two tiny kittens, mewing helplessly. Jessica’s face turned red with embarrassment. “I was trying to climb up to get them, but they keep climbing higher!” she explained, her voice trembling. “I don’t know what to do!” Jared hesitated. He hadn’t planned on being the hero today. He had barely spoken to Jessica outside of the classroom, let alone had any reason to help her. But the sound of those helpless little kittens made something in him change. “I’ll help,” he said before he could think twice. Jessica stared at him in surprise. “You? But you don’t even like me!” Jared shrugged. “Maybe I don’t like you, but I can’t just leave the kittens up there.” With determination, Jared approached the tree. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From that moment on, something shifted between them. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 包九中外国语学校高二年级英语学科调研卷 (2025年3月) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 With determination, Jared approached the tree. Carefully, he started to climb, his heart racing as he reached for each branch. Jessica watched below, her face filled with concern. When Jared finally reached the kittens, he gently gathered the frightened kittens, carefully making his way back down. As soon as he reached the ground, Jessica rushed over, her face glowing with gratitude. “Thank you, Jared! I was so worried!” she said. Jared smiled, feeling a sense of pride he hadn’t expected. “It was no big deal.” Jessica’s eyes softened, and for the first time, she looked at Jared with respect. From that moment on, something shifted between them. Their tension disappeared as if it had never existed. The next day, Jessica came over during recess and sat next to Jared. They chatted about everything — school, hobbies, and even shared their favorite games to play. Jared discovered that Jessica wasn’t as bad as he had thought. She was funny, kind, and, as it turned out, she loved animals just as much as he did. Their bond was sealed, not by words, but by the kindness shown that day — the day Jared saved the kittens. 1[A][B][C] 6[A][B][c] 11 [A][B][c] 16[A][B][c] 2I[A][B][C][D] 2[A][B][C] 7[A][B][C] 12[A][B][C] 17[A][B][C] 22[A][B][C][D] 3[A][B][C] 8[A][B][C] 13[A][B][C] 18[A][B][C] 23[A][B][C][D] 4[A][B][C] 9[A][B][c] 14[A][B][C] 19[A][B][C] 24[A][B][C][D] 5[A][B][C] 10[A][B][C] 15[A][B][c] 20[A][B][c] 25[A][B][C][D] 26[A][B][C][D] 31[A][B][c][D] 36[A][B][c][D][E][F][G] 41[A][B][c][D] 27[A][B][C][D] 32[A][B][C][D] 37[A][B][C][D][E][F][G] 42[A][B][C][D] 28[A][B][C][D] 33[A][B][C][D] 38[A][B][C][D][E][F][G]43[A][B][C][D] 29[A][B][C][D] 34[A][B][c][D] 39[A][B][C][D][E][F][G]44[A][B][C][D] 30[A][B][C][D] 35[A][B][C][D] 40[A][B][c][D][E][F][G]45[A][B][C][D] 46[A][B]C][D] 51[A][B][C][D] 4?[A][B][C][D] 52[A][B][C][D] 48[A][B][c][D] 53[A][B][C][D] 49[A][B][C][D] 54[A][B][C][D] 50[A][B][C][D] 55[A][B][C][D] 填空题 56. 57. 58. 59 60. 61. 62 63. 64 65. With determination,Jared approached the tree. 1 From that moment on,something shifted between them.
