In recent years, new consumption trends (消费趋势) have appeared among Chinese teenagers. These trends show their changing lifestyles and values.
One of the trends is “rational consumption”. Unlike before, many teenagers now pay more attention to the practical value of products. For example, when buying a pair of shoes, they will check the quality, comfort and price carefully. They are also more willing to buy products from Chinese brands. A survey shows that 72% of teenagers said they would choose a Chinese brand if its quality and price are good.
Another trend is “eco-friendly consumption”. More and more teenagers care about environmental problems. They prefer to buy eco-friendly products, such as bamboo toothbrushes and clothes made from recycled materials. Some teenagers even start to “second-hand shopping”. They buy old books, clothes and electronic products from second-hand websites. They think this not only saves money but also reduces waste.
“Experience consumption” is also becoming popular. Teenagers are willing to spend money on experiences rather than material products. For example, they may spend money on travelling, attending concerts, taking online courses or doing outdoor activities. A 16-year-old boy from Beijing said, “I will use my pocket money to go hiking with my friends but not buy a new toy. The memories from the trip are more valuable to me.”
These new consumption trends show that Chinese teenagers are becoming more mature and responsible. They are not only thinking about their own needs but also caring about the environment and society.

A.Because second-hand products are more fashionable.
B.Because they want to follow foreign trends.

D.Because second-hand products are of better quality.
27.Which of the following is an example of “experience consumption”?
A.Buying a new pair of shoes. B.Buying a second-hand book.
C.Attending a music concert. D.Buying a reusable water bottle.
28.What can we learn from the new consumption trends of Chinese teenagers?
A.They only care about their own needs.
B.They are becoming more mature and responsible.
C.They don’t like Chinese brands at all.
D.They are not interested in material products any more.

Imagine you are going to give a speech the next day. The night before, you spend a lot of time thinking about the possible mistakes you might make and whether you are ready enough. Well, you might be overthinking.
Overthinking means thinking about the same thing again and again, or worrying too much about even the simplest things. According to The Conversation, overthinking comes from one of our primitive instincts (原始本能) that always tries to keep us safe. It often makes us see things in a bad way and prepares us for something that might go wrong.
Some people might think overthinking is helpful because it lets us see a problem from every possible side and get ready for what may happen. However, studies show that overthinking can make us feel nervous, stressed and unhappy. What’s more, overthinking might create problems with how you get along with others. As you always think the worst, make incorrect guesses or worry about every little thing others do and say, you might understand them in a wrong way.
So instead of sitting and thinking about a problem again and again, you can distract (转移注意力) yourself for a bit. Your brain might find better ways to solve the problem while you are doing something fun, like gardening, or even while you are sleeping.
Also, when you find yourself overthinking, challenge these thoughts. Ask yourself if they make sense and think about other possible ways. It can be hard at first, but once you notice you are overthinking, it can help you make a change.
29.At the beginning of the passage, the writer leads in the topic by ________.
A.telling a story B.giving an example C.answering a question D.showing a fact
30.According to the passage, why does overthinking often make us see things in a bad way?
A.Because we don’t have enough time.
B.Because our brain wants to keep us safe.
C.Because people around us often make us nervous.
D.Because we don’t know how to make the right plan.
31.What should you do when you find yourself overthinking?
A.Ask others to make decisions for you.
B.Keep thinking until you find the answer.
C.Write down everything you are worried about.
D.Challenge your thoughts and do something fun.
32.What’s the main idea of this passage?
A.How to prepare a speech well. B.Why people like overthinking.
C.What overthinking is and how to deal with it. D.How to get along with others.

World Theatre Day, set up by the International Theatre Institute, is a day to raise global awareness of the art of theatre. It falls on March 27 each year.
Theatre is a native (土著的) art form in China and plays an important role in spreading Chinese culture, showing traditional Chinese culture and aesthetics (美学). In recent years, many theatrical productions are trying to win the interest of young people by adding new ideas.
Inspired by a Chinese classic novel, the folk-dance drama “A Dream of Red Mansions” became one of the top-selling productions of 2023, especially because of a scene where the character Jia Baoyu looks back at the Twelve Beauties, which turned out to be a hit.
Behind the success of “A Dream of Red Mansions” lies a young team run by young directors, Li Xing and Li Chao, who took a special way by focusing on the female roles in the story and creatively connecting their lives with the life cycle of flowers.

①Anger often makes us uncomfortable. Seeing your child’s anger can be especially uncomfortable. In order to relieve (缓解) this feeling, parents will often encourage children to “stop crying” and say things like “It’s nothing to cry about.” It’s moments like these that plant the seeds of unhealthy anger. If a child never sees his or her parent express anger, he or she should never express anger, either. But if a parent always expresses their anger loudly, the child may start to think of anger as something that is always frightening. So we should learn how to create healthier anger in our kids.
②The first thing you can do to create healthier anger in your children is to practice creating healthier anger in yourself. Once you’re better at experiencing anger and expressing it in a healthy way, you’ll be able to set a good example for your kids.
③Stopping kids from expressing their feelings is wrong. You may feel bad when you believe you are wrong. When children express their feelings and are told that it’s nothing to cry about, they come to know that they themselves are bad.
④We need to raise them in an environment where it’s safe to express feelings. Once you feel more comfortable with your own anger, you can teach your children why anger is a helpful feeling. When your kid expresses anger, help them examine what it is that has made them angry. Why did it make them angry? How did it do that? Then, you can teach them that those feelings are never wrong and our expressions of our feelings are in our control.
⑤Anger is natural and normal, and it can be experienced and expressed in a healthy way.
37.How does the writer begin the text?
A.By giving a scientific definition (定义) of anger.
B.By listing some research findings about anger.
C.By describing a common situation in family life.
D.By telling a personal story about raising children.
38.What should parents do to set a good example for children according to the text?
A.They should stop their children from expressing their feelings.
B.They should raise their children in a safe environment.
C.They should express their own anger in a healthier way.
D.They should let their children know they are bad or wrong.
39.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A.①/②/③④⑤ B.①/②③/④⑤ C.①②/③④/⑤ D.①/②③④/⑤
40.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Parents should create healthier anger in themselves.
B.Anger often makes us and our children uncomfortable.
C.How parents should create healthier anger in their kids.
D.What parents should do to keep children’s anger under control.

Science in the Movies
What do movie makers do when they want to know what a black hole looks like? “Quick, get me a scientist!” Mika McKinnon is a geologist and physicist in Canada. 41 We asked her some questions about her job.
How did you get interested in science?
I watched too much Star Trek as a kid. 42 When I asked my mom why the sky was blue, she would make me research it and actually learn the answers. So I learnt that science is something you can study anywhere, any time.
43
A movie company came to my university looking for a “string theorist” (a kind of atom scientist). I figured they were saying “string theorist” because that was the smartest scientist they could think of. I said, you don’t need a string theorist, you need me! So I went to work.
What do you do at work?
I first worked on the TV show Stargate, in the prop department, which is in charge of anything an actor touches. They would lend me out to people decorating sets and doing special effects, the writers’ room, and anybody who wanted to ask a scientist questions.
44 Most science fiction is about “what if” questions. What if the speed of light were different? What if we had a colony on Mars? What if we could travel to another solar system in the blink of an eye? I realized how useful it was for storytellers to be able to ask all those what-ifs and actually get answers.
Why does it matter to get the science right in a made-up story?
That was one of my first questions too. One of the writers told me that by getting things right when you can, you get everyone to believe in your world and your story. 45 I also think real science is often more interesting than fiction. There are so many things in this world that are stranger and more unusual than we imagine. So telling the truth can actually be a way of stretching belief.
A.I am a huge fan of science fiction.
B.There’s a lot of science behind movies.
C.How did you start working in the movies?
D.She also works as a science adviser to Hollywood.
E.It allows storytellers to have more surprising plots.
F.Then I worked with a movie company to create story ideas.

The art form came into being (开始存在) in Beijing in the late Qing dynasty. It began as a form of the street show, and it also borrowed from other arts, such as Beijing opera and pingshu. No matter what the form is, crosstalk just wants to make people laugh.
Crosstalk is one of China’s most important and popular performing arts. In the past, people usually enjoyed crosstalk in tea houses. Nowadays, you can watch it on TV or go to the theatre with your family. Of course, you can also listen to it on the radio while taking a walk or driving a car.
Modern crosstalk usually has four basic skills: speaking, imitating (模仿), teasing (逗笑) and singing. It’s difficult for performers to master (掌握) all of them. Some stories come from everyday life, popular ideas and hot news. Some come from history stories. During the show, sometimes one performer is “angry” with the other because of their different ideas.

How to Be a Better Person
As a middle school student, I quite agree with the suggestions. To be a better person, we should do the following things.
First, we should keep healthy by eating balanced meals and doing regular exercise like running or playing basketball. Second, never be afraid of challenges. We need to face problems bravely and try our best to solve them. This helps us grow. Third, be kind to others. We can help classmates with their studies and care for our family members. Showing kindness makes the world warmer. Finally, take responsibility. We must work hard at school to gain knowledge for our future. We should also protect the environment by recycling and saving water.
By doing these, we can improve ourselves continuously.
