Emilio Santana, a 14-year-old American boy, is now a ninth grader at a high school in Rhode Island.

In the third grade, Emilio saw something that changed his life. “I saw a little girl at the beach. She was going to the water so she took her hat off, but her hair went with it,” he said. “You could see she was sad. This just stayed with me.” It was then that Emilio decided to grow out his hair so he could donate it to someone in need.

“Even when I got some things like, ‘Boys shouldn’t have long hair.’ I decided that as long as I could see somebody smile and make their life better, I wanted to do it,” Emilio said.

This year, Emilio decided it was time to cut his hair. He donated it to Hair We Share, an organization that offers wigs (假发) for sick children at no cost.

Emilio said he had something to say for the person who received his hair.

If I see you in the future, I’ll say that you are beautiful either way, with hair or without it, and that I really hope my hair brings you happiness and puts a smile on your face.
