“Going on holiday with blind people opens your eyes,” says Wendy Coley. She often goes on tours with Travel Eyes, a company that takes tourists traveling around the world. For each tour, half of the people can see and half can’t. A person who can see travels with a person who can’t. The world is there for sighted (有视力的) people but that can cause problems for the blind. So, sighted members might describe the size and color of a building, or the smiles of strangers passing by. They might explain the food, “Our lunch is a sandwich in the center of your plate, and chips in a bowl to the right of your plate.”
Clearly, it is good for blind travelers. They are able to learn about new places and make new friends. “You don’t worry about danger any more. That’s really important,” says Jenny Tween, a blind tourist. But it is also of benefit to sighted travelers. Wendy is one of them. She says that when you describe what you see, you see things in a very different way. The tour manager Hannah Vince agrees, “Sighted people learn a lot from these trips. It’s a two-way thing.” Traveling with blind people and describing the world to them makes sighted people go more slowly and look more closely at colors, shapes, and the sizes of things. Blind people can also help sighted people find more about the smells of food or flowers, and the sounds of music or traffic.
In the end, this isn’t a story about people who can see helping people who can’t. It’s about people with different abilities showing each other new ways of experiencing the world and meeting new friends.
4. What do we know about tours with Travel Eyes?
A. Most of the tourists are blind people. B. They are organized by Wendy Coley.
C. A blind person travels with a sighted person. D. Blind people join in the tours at half the price.
5. What does the underlined word “They” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Tourists. B. Strangers. C. Blind people. D. Sighted members.
6. How does Jenny Tween feel during the tours?
A. Safe. B. Sleepy. C. Nervous. D. Surprised.
7. What would be the best title for the passage?
A Shared Travel. B. Help Blind People.
C. Happy Holiday D. Travel around the World.

Sugar painting, as the name means, is a painting made of sugar. It’s the sugar for us to taste, and the painting for us to admire.
Since the Warring States Period (战国时代) , the ancient people loved sweets and developed methods of producing sugar. In the Tang Dynasty, there was huge progress in the technology of sugar making. And sugar, the precious product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into common people’s homes. With the cultural and economic (经济的) development of Song and Yuan Dynasties, people became less interested in only tasting sweetness. In the Ming Dynasty, some people added pictures with good luck into the bowl of sugar, and sugar painting appeared.
Sugar painting is different from normal painting. Sugar painters use syrup (糖浆) as the material, a spoon as the “paintbrush”, and a smooth table as the “paper”. To make syrup, they have to make sugar hot before painting. Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work very quickly. They move the spoon full of syrup up and down, left and right. Soon a sugar painting is done.
However, it’s a pity that this folk art is dying recently. The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass on the art except those aging sugar painters.
For most people, painting is a kind of art and difficult to understand. However, sugar painting has pulled the art down into people’s daily lives. Through it, we may see the spiritual support of the ancient people across centuries. Now, sugar painting has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in China. Therefore, the art should be remembered, missed and passed on.
8. According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. People in the Warring States Period already knew how to make sugar paintings.
B. In the Tang Dynasty, sugar was still only served to the emperors and prince s.
C. Sugar painters need to heat sugar to make syrup before creating sugar paintings.
D. There are many young people learning the art of sugar painting nowadays.
9. When did sugar painting appear?
A. In the Warring States Period. B. In the Tang Dynasty.
C. In the Yuan Dynasty. D. In the Ming Dynasty.
10. Why should sugar painters make the work very quickly?
A To show their excellent skills. B. To avoid syrup becoming hard.
C. To protect the spoon and the table. D. To reduce people’s waiting time.
11. What’s the writer’s attitude towards today’s sugar painting according to Paragraph 4?
A. Uncaring. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Unclear.
D
In China, a new way of shopping is becoming popular. Young people may say no to a 20-yuan coffee but happily pay over 200 yuan for a soft toy shaped like a coffee cup. They care more about the emotional value it brings than its practical use.
A special shop in Shanghai is getting lots of attention. It doesn’t sell real coffee. Instead, the shop sells soft toys looking like products and desserts in a coffee shop. The workers pretend (假装) to “make” the toys by adding “sugar” and “cream” before packing them, making the shopping experience fun and special.
Studies show prices for soft toys are going up. Those born between 1990 and 2010 have become the main buyer group in the soft toy market. When life gets hard, these toys help them feel happier.
Han Yufei, a 27-year-old from Beijing, says, “Many of us didn’t have brothers or sisters, so soft toys were our childhood friends. We still love them as adults.” She has kept a panda toy since she was seven — it went to school with her and even moved with her when she got a job.
On the Internet, young people share photos of their soft toys going everywhere with them — to meals, work and trips. Some even make special Internet pages just for their toys. It’s clear these toys mean a lot to young people today.
12. What do young people care more about when buying something according to Paragraph 1?
A. Its price. B. Its popularity.
C. Its practical use. D. Its emotional value.
13 What can people do in the coffee-themed shop?
A. Try different desserts. B. Buy some soft toys.
C. Enjoy a cup of free coffee. D. Make coffee by themselves.
14. Why do some young people value their soft toys so much?
A. Because they have few friends. B. Because the toys are very expensive.
C. Because they see the toys as friends. D. Because the toys remind them of their friends.
15. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Success of a Coffee-Themed Shop. B. Young hearts Warmed by Soft Toys.
C. Childhood Toys Brought Back to Life. D. High Cost of Young People’s Daily Life.
