B My curiosity about body language started with a particular professor from my university. On a brisk morning, as he playfully pointed out my tendency to rub my nose whenever I wove excuses for being late to his lectures, he fascinated me with the gripping notion of “Pinocchio”. Actually, when someone tells a lie, the person’s blood rushes to the nose and the extra blood makes it itchy (发痒的). This little example of non-verbal communication inspired me to become a body language expert. Now, I earn my living by training people in non-verbal communication. Knowing when someone is lying and knowing how to persuade people you’re telling the truth are two of the most important skills you’ll ever learn. I have spent a lot of time studying the ways the human body gives more reliable information than the words we speak. The words say one thing but the body may say something completely different. We know that crossed arms can be seen as either defensive or aggressive, but what about facial expressions, postures and gestures? All of these say a lot and can only be understood if you know how to make sense of the signs. Business clients are always in need of my services and I try to improve their confidence by teaching them about body language. I give advice about handshakes, which should always be firm and steady, and I teach the importance of personal space. They may seem like minor matters, but these codes of behaviour can be the key to making or breaking a business deal. My working life gives me a great deal of satisfaction. I feel that I’m providing a public service, but it is a service that has had its downside. Whenever I meet someone new and I tell them what I do for a living, they immediately put their guard up and they’re no longer relaxed. They quite literally freeze in the attempt to hide all the signals that they think I’m reading. It makes life difficult at times, but I consider it a small price to pay for a job I enjoy so much. 24. What is the purpose of mentioning the author’s professor in the first paragraph? A. To show how humorous his professor was. B. To introduce what the concept of “Pinocchio” is. C. To describe how interesting his university life was. D. To explain what encouraged him to pick his career. 25. What can we infer from the second paragraph? A. Crossed arms always indicate defensiveness. B. Understanding body language requires specific skills. C. Spoken words are more trustworthy than body signals. D. Facial expressions, postures, and gestures convey insignificant information. 26. Why do people act in an unusual way after knowing the author’s occupation? A. They believe he is studying them. B. They consider him aggressive. C. They don’t like his service. D. They are rooted in shock. 27. What does the author think of his job? A. Stable but difficult. B. Flexible but demanding. C. Fulfilling but challenging. D. Innovative but fast-paced. C While we race into a future where we outsource most of our problem-solving to artificial intelligence, the greatest threat is not super intelligent machinery. It’s mindlessly putting too much trust in Big Tech and not enough trust in the power of our own minds. A philosophy of artful thinking is a good way to avoid this. To think artfully means to solve problems using not just our brains, but also our hands, eyes, and ears, along with our emotions. This approach taps into the cognitive (认知的) resources that are spread throughout our bodies but often go unused. Changing how we think is hard work. And it starts with a mindfulness practice. Accessing artful intelligence requires being mindful of how we think with our body, how we use our limbs (四肢), organs, and emotions to make sense of the world. Be mindful of all the different messages your body is sending you as well as the different roles and functions your bodily actions can play. For example, gesturing (做手势) in conversations is not just communicative. These movements often help the speaker to smooth out their thought process and assist in getting the words out. Today, Big Tech is pushing a message of artificial-intelligence craziness and fear. What makes you stuck in it? It’s seeing the same things wherever you look. Big Tech gives you screens, hoping that your attention will always be attracted by their devices. If you want to find more freedom in this AI-filled world, improve your ability to mindfully shift your attention between different objects or levels of focus. Remember everything is born of a choice. Artful thinking demands effortful mindfulness to ensure that what we do, what we hope to achieve by using these technological tools, will not weaken our humanity. As Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Mindful living is an art, and each of us has to train to be an artist.” 28. What can we learn about artful thinking? A. It simplifies problem-solving. B. It focuses on developing our brains. C. It prevents us from over-relying on AI. D. It helps promote high-tech machinery. 29. What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A. Benefits of artful intelligence. B. Mind-body awareness in thinking. C. Significance of being mindful. D. Social interaction through movements. 30. What does the author suggest we do in the AI-filled world? A. Enhance the flexibility of attention. B. Adapt to the rise of AI. C. Avoid the interruptions from Big Tech. D. Improve the levels of focus. 31. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Artful Thinking Advances Big Tech B. Too Much Trust in AI Harms Our Minds C Physical Actions Better Cognitive Functions D. Mindfulness Keeps Us Human in the Age of AI D The brain’s capacity to remember, use language and solve problems tends to decline with age, often leading to dementia (痴呆症). Yet, research has shown up to 45 per cent of global dementia cases may be preventable by modifying (改进,修改)14 risk factors, such as lack of education and social isolation. To investigate ways of staving off this decline, Laura Baker at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and her colleagues have been running an investigation. They selected more than 2100 participants who were between 60 and 79 years old. They sat a lot, their eating habits were not ideal and they met at least two other dementia-related conditions. The participants were randomly assigned to one of two plans, which both aimed to encourage physical and cognitive (认知的) activity, a healthy diet and social engagement, but went about it in different ways. One was very structured, with 38 small group meetings over the two years, at which trained persons gave out plans. This program also involved regular exercise at a community centre, guidelines for following an anti-dementia diet and weekly web-based sessions using brain-training software. The other group was more self-guided, with just six group meetings over the two years. These participants received publicly available education materials and $75 gift cards that were intended to support a change in behaviour, such as attending gym classes. Two years later, both groups showed improvements. The structured group improved by 0.24 standard deviations (标准差) per year, compared with their average scores at the beginning of the trial, while the self-guided group improved by 0.21 standard deviations per year---a small but statistically significant difference. “I think this study is important because it shows that lifestyle improvement helps and people did a bit better with guided help, but this does not mean it is the only way to do it,” says Gill Livingston at University College London. Claudia Suemoto at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil argues the small difference in cognitive scores between the groups probably wouldn’t be noticeable to the participants or their families. Dementia is also typically a slowly progressing condition, so it would take longer than two years to see clear effects, she says. 32. What did the investigation aim to explore? A. The most effective factor in preventing dementia. B. Whether educational materials are better than cash rewards. C. Combining medicine with lifestyle changes for high-risk individuals. D. Ways to help older adults slow down cognitive decline 33. How was the research carried out? A. By comparing cognitive scores between an intervention group and a control group. B. By providing all participants with exercise and brain-training program. C. By randomly assigning high-risk seniors to two groups for a two-year study. D. By conducting a long-term survey on social isolation and cognitive decline. 34. According to the research results, what was the outcome after two years? A. The self-guided group showed no significant improvement. B. The structured group had a noticeably faster cognitive decline. C. Both groups improved, with a slight advantage for the structured group. D. Only the structured group’s improvement was statistically significant. 35. What is Claudia Suemoto’s view on the study’s findings? A. She believes the score gap would be easily noticeable in daily life. B. She suggests a longer study may be needed for clear effects. C. She argues the structured program is the only effective prevention. D. She emphasizes that social engagement alone can bring improvement Several schools are trying to cut back on the use of slang (俚语). The Harris Academy in Upper Norwood is one school that’s taking action. Students there are banned from using terms such as coz (because), ain’t (isn’t/ aren’t, etc.) and yeah (yes). Signs have been put up with a list of banned words. ____36____ But why? The big problem is that many of these terms are appearing in written work. ____37____ The school explained that they don’t want the children to lose their identity, but to be able to communicate properly with people and be understood. “We are going to teach them the rules. ____38____ But we want them to know that when they are filling in application forms and speaking in a formal situation they should use Standard English,” said a teacher. So, what’s causing the problem? Firstly, slang is just about everywhere these days: in TV shows, songs, films, etc. And with more and more people using it in conversations with friends and coworkers, it’s becoming more acceptable. ____39____ Texting often involves using abbreviations or phonetic (语音的) forms of words, such as wot (what), dat (that), n (and), and gonna (going to). ____40____ It’s argued that the very nature of English is its flexibility and it’s a ban that would be impossible to achieve as there’s no official language police. The type of language that people use can’t be controlled. “The reason why English is so popular is that it develops and adapts well to fit the way it’s being used,” a language expert explained. Is the “war” on slang worth fighting? A. This puts many children at a severe disadvantage. B. No doubt the strength of English lies in its diversity. C. The increasing use of social media also has an effect. D. If they decide not to use these rules with friends, that is fine. E. A letter has also been sent to parents explaining the decision. F. The role of schools in developing language skills has raised doubt. G. However, many see any attempts to control language as pointless. Each year the headmaster of the school where I work asks us to read a book chosen by him. This year’s book is The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything by Ken Robinson. Robinson uses the term “the Element” to ____42____ the place where the things we love to do and the things we are good at come together. How easy is it to look at those who seem to have found their Element. They are great at what they do and we ____44____ they love to do it because they do what they do so well. But what is important to note, Robinson says, is that each of us has the ability to find the Element. In academic settings, there is an effort to help students uncover what ____45____ they have been given. The goal then is to help them discover these talents through experience and education. ____46____, this is only one piece of the puzzle. Another piece is finding where a person’s talent and the love of ____47____ that talent intersect (相交). I like this book very much since it ____48____ my own life: how I parent my kid, how I teach, and how I lend support to the students I work with, ____49____ or in groups. Our house is neither large nor luxurious (奢华的), but it has a fairly big garden. My father loves his garden. He planted some seeds in it and took good care of the plants, watering them, applying fertilizer (肥料), weeding and getting rid of bugs. He was never tired of doing all that stuff. But at that time, I didn’t understand why working in the dirt excited him so much. Unfortunately, in early May, my father was seriously injured in an accident. He had to stay in bed for a while. My mother had several business trips, so she couldn’t take care of the garden. I didn’t want my father to worry, so I said that I would take care of his garden until he recovered. I assumed that the little plants would continue to grow as long as they had water, and luckily it rained fairly often, so I didn’t think much about the garden. One Saturday morning, my father said to me, “Christine, the vegetables should be about ready to be picked. Let’s have a salad today!” I went out to the garden and was upset to see that many of the lettuce (生菜) leaves and carrots had been half eaten by bugs. There were hundreds of bugs all over them! I panicked for a moment but then I quietly went to the nearest supermarket to buy some vegetables. When I gave the salad to him, he said, “Oh, Christine, what a beautiful salad! I can’t believe the carrots are this big already. You must be taking very good care of my garden.” I felt a little bit guilty. When my mum came home, she saw the bag from the supermarket in the kitchen. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I carefully made a salad and look it to my father. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力部分该部分分为第一第二两节。 Hello, international friends club. D 25. B 26. A 27. 根据文章第一段“My curiosity about body language started with a particular professor from my university. Now, I earn my living by training people in non-verbal communication.(我对肢体语言的好奇始于我大学里的一位教授。 根据文章第二段“All of these say a lot and can only be understood if you know how to make sense of the signs.(所有这些都说明了很多,只有你知道如何理解这些符号,你才能理解它们)”及本段介绍了一些体态语表示的内容可知,理解肢体语言需要特定的技能。 根据文章最后一段“Whenever I meet someone new and I tell them what I do for a living, they immediately put their guard up and they’re no longer relaxed. They quite literally freeze in the attempt to hide all the signals that they think I’m reading.(每当我遇到一个新朋友,我告诉他们我是做什么的,他们就会立刻提高警惕,不再放松。他们真的会愣住,试图隐藏他们认为我在读的所有信号)”可知,接触作者的人听说他的职业后会表现得不自然,是因为他们觉得作者会研究他们。故选A。 根据文章最后一段“My working life gives me a great deal of satisfaction.(我的工作生活给了我很大的满足)”及“It makes life difficult at times, but I consider it a small price to pay for a job I enjoy so much.(这有时会让生活变得困难,但我认为这是为我喜欢的工作付出的小小代价)”可知,作者的工作让作者很有满足感,但有时候会有挑战。故选C。 C While we race into a future where we outsource most of our problem-solving to artificial intelligence, the greatest threat is not super intelligent machinery. Too Much Trust in AI Harms Our Minds C. Physical Actions Better Cognitive Functions D. Mindfulness Keeps Us Human in the Age of AI 【答案】28. C 29. B 30. A 31. 根据第二段“A philosophy of artful thinking is a good way to avoid this. To think artfully means to solve problems using not just our brains, but also our hands, eyes, and ears, along with our emotions. This approach taps into the cognitive (认知的) resources that are spread throughout our bodies but often go unused.(巧妙思考的哲学是避免这种情况的好方法。巧妙思考意味着不仅要用大脑,还要用手、眼睛、耳朵以及情感来解决问题。这种方法利用了我们身体中分布但常常未被利用的认知资源)”可知,巧妙思考能防止我们过度依赖人工智能。故选C。 【29题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段中“Changing how we think is hard work. And it starts with a mindfulness practice. Accessing artful intelligence requires being mindful of how we think with our body, how we use our limbs (四肢), organs, and emotions to make sense of the world.(改变我们的思维方式是一项艰苦的工作。它始于正念练习。获取巧妙智慧需要留意我们如何用身体思考,如何用四肢、器官和情感来理解世界)”可知,第三段主要讲了思考中的身心意识。故选B。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“If you want to find more freedom in this AI-filled world, improve your ability to mindfully shift your attention between different objects or levels of focus.(如果你想在这个充满人工智能的世界中找到更多的自由,提高你自觉地在不同物体或注意力层次之间转移注意力的能力)”可推知,作者建议我们在充满人工智能的世界里增强注意力的灵活性。故选A。 根据最后一段“Artful thinking demands effortful mindfulness to ensure that what we do, what we hope to achieve by using these technological tools, will not weaken our humanity. As Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Mindful living is an art, and each of us has to train to be an artist.”(巧妙思考需要努力保持正念,以确保我们所做的,以及我们希望通过使用这些技术工具实现的目标,不会削弱我们的人性。正如一行禅师所说:“正念生活是一门艺术,我们每个人都必须训练成为艺术家。”)”结合全文内容可知,文章主要论述了在人工智能时代,保持正念的重要性,它能让我们保持人性,不被技术所吞噬。D选项“正念让我们在人工智能时代保持人性”最适合作为文章标题。故选D。 D The brain’s capacity to remember, use language and solve problems tends to decline with age, often leading to dementia (痴呆症). 根据第一段内容“The brain’s capacity to remember, use language and solve problems tends to decline with age, often leading to dementia(痴呆症). Yet, research has shown up to 45 per cent of global dementia cases may be preventable by modifying  (改进, 修改) 14 risk factors, such as lack of education and social isolation.(大脑的记忆、语言运用和解决问题的能力往往会随着年龄的增长而衰退,这往往会导致痴呆症。然而,研究表明,全球多达 45%的痴呆病例可以通过改善 14 种风险因素得以预防,比如缺乏教育和社交孤立等。)”第二段“To investigate ways of staving off this decline, Laura Baker at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and her colleagues have been running an investigation. (为了研究延缓这种衰退的方法,维克森林大学医学院的劳拉・贝克及其同事开展了一项调查。)”可知,该调查的目的是探索帮助老年人减缓认知能力衰退的方法。故选D项。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“They selected more than 2100 participants who were between 60 and 79 years old. They sat a lot, their eating habits were not ideal and they met at least two other dementia-related conditions.(他们选取了2100多名年龄在60至79岁之间的受试者。这些受试者久坐不动,饮食习惯不佳,且至少还符合另外两项与痴呆症相关的指标。)”、第三段“The participants were randomly assigned to one of two plans, which both aimed to encourage physical and cognitive (认知的) activity, a healthy diet and social engagement, but went about it in different ways.(这些受试者被随机分配至两个方案中的其中一个。两个方案均旨在鼓励身体活动、认知活动、健康饮食与社交参与,但采用的实施方式有所不同。)”以及第五段“Two years later, both groups showed improvements. F. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右。 2. 请按如下格式作答。 When my mum came home, she saw the bag from the supermarket in the kitchen. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I carefully made a salad and look it to my father. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】When my mum came home, she saw the bag from the supermarket in the kitchen. She looked at me with a curious expression and asked, “Where did these vegetables come from?”I hesitated for a moment, feeling guilty about my secret trip to the supermarket. Finally, I confessed, “Mom, I bought them because I didn’t want Dad to worry about the garden. I didn't realize the bugs had damaged the vegetables.” My mother smiled understandingly and said,“It’s okay, Christine. Taking care of a garden is not an easy task, especially when you're doing it for the first time.” From that day on, I became more dedicated to tending the garden, researching natural ways to control pests, and seeking my father’s guidance. I decided to make another salad for my father using vegetables from our own garden. I carefully made a salad and brought it to my father. As he took a bite, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of nervousness and anticipation. However, his eyes lit up with delight, and a smile spread across his face. Seeing his happiness, I realized that my efforts in the garden had truly paid off. After finishing his meal, I gathered my courage and confessed to my father about the bugs and the damaged crops. To my surprise, he didn’t show any signs of disappointment or anger. Instead, he smiled warmly and reassured me. 词汇激活 行为类 ①犹豫:hesitated/reluctant/undecided ②承认:confessed/acknowledged/admitted ③寻求:seeking/looking/pursuit 情绪类 ①开心:happiness/delight/joy ②紧张:nervousness/tension/intense ③期待:anticipation/expect/look forward 【点睛】[高分句型1].
