附录音原稿
(Text 1)
W: Excuse me, could you tell me how to get to the nearest bookstore?
M: Get out of the department, walk along this street until you see a hospital, and then turn left. It’s next to the bank.
W: Thanks!
(Text 2)
M: Hi, Lucy. Are you going to the school concert this Saturday?
W: I’m not sure. My parents want me to pay a visit to my sister that day. She just gave birth to a baby.
M: What a pity!
(Text 3)
W: The weather report says it will rain tomorrow.
M: That’s bad. We planned to have a picnic in the park.
W: Maybe we can change the plan. How about going to the museum?
M: Good idea! I heard there’s a new art exhibition there.
(Text 4)
M: How much is this T-shirt?
W: It’s 100 dollars. But if you buy two, you can get 20% off.
M: Then I’ll take two. One for me and one for my brother.
(Text 5)
W: Good morning! I need to borrow a copy of Pride and Prejudice for my literature class.
M: Let me check. Oh, we have three copies, but two are already checked out. The last one is on the second shelf, Section F.
W: Great, thanks! How long can I keep it?
M: For two weeks.
(Text 6)
M: I always love watching musicals, but this one is a bit rubbish—they just keep screaming.
W: This isn’t a musical; it’s an absolute classic opera! It’s excellent!
M: I think that’s a matter of opinion.
W: Listen, this night out is something I’ve been looking forward to for weeks. It’s my birthday present, remember? So, I want you to sit back and give it a chance, okay?
M: All right. I’m hungry, and I need to get a hamburger once this is finished.
W: Fine!
(Text 7)
M: So, Casey, how are things going with photos for the press kit?
W: Yeah, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about that. I might need to ask for an extension on that deadline.
M: You’ve had over a month to get this finalized. Why are things delayed?
W: Well, we ran into a lot of problems.
M: I’m not looking for excuses here. I just want to get this finished on time.
W: I know, and I apologize for the delay. But some things were just beyond my control. I had trouble booking the photographer and then Michael was sick for three weeks, so I couldn’t include him in the photos.
M: I’m not going to put this off any longer, Casey. I want those photos as soon as possible.
(Text 8)
M: Hello, is that Ms Lee speaking? This is John from ABC Company. I’m calling to inform you about the result of your interview last Monday. Good news—my boss has decided to offer you the position, provided you’re still interested.
W: Oh, that’s wonderful! I’m definitely still interested. Thank you so much for letting me know.
M: You’re welcome. Now, could you let us know when you can start? We were hoping you could join us next Monday—does that work for you?
W: I’m afraid that’s a bit soon. I haven’t talked to my current boss about leaving yet, and according to company policy, I need to give a two-week notice to allow time for finding a replacement. Would the 1st of June be possible?
M: Let me check...Yes, the 1st of June is fine. We’ll prepare the employment contract and send it to you by the end of this week.
W: That sounds good. I really appreciate your flexibility.
M: No problem. We’re looking forward to having you on board.
(Text 9)
M: Christina? It’s really you!
W: Andy! What a surprise! It must be at least five years since we bumped into each other after graduation. You’re looking fantastic—still as energetic as when you were on the college basketball team. How do you keep in such good shape?
M: Oh, I’ve cut down on junk food lately—no more late-night pizza runs. But I don’t hit the gym as hard as I used to.
W: I wish I could stick to a routine, but my work schedule’s all over the place.
M: Maybe you could join that new fitness centre near your company. I passed by it last week—it’s got a pool and everything. You could swim right after work.
W: That does sound convenient. I’ve been meaning to get back into some kind of exercise.
M: We should team up sometime. I was thinking of trying that new trail by the lake for a hike this weekend.
W: Hiking? No, thanks—I’d rather stay indoors. Running’s out too; I’m terrible at it. Swimming, though—that I could manage.
M: Perfect! The gym I mentioned has a 25-metre pool. How about Saturday morning?
W: That works for me. I’ll bring my swimsuit!
(Text 10)
M: OK, everyone. Let me introduce to you three films to be shown in the 3D cinema today. The first one is called The Secrets and it starts in half an hour at ten o’clock. It’s a beautiful film and it tells the story of the journey that was made down the river Nile for the very first time.
Dinosaurs Alive is the second film showing today. It starts at 1:45 p.m., and runs for just 30 minutes. Scientists now have a lot of evidence to show that some animals from the dinosaur family are still living on Earth. So in this film, you’ll live with a new kind of dinosaur that has been recreated using computers.
Our last film today is Arabia. It starts at 2:30 p.m. and is a little longer than the others, but it’s a really wonderful experience. You’ll ride through the desert and explore Red Sea where you’ll find the ruins of an amazing lost city.

The upcoming winter season offers a selection of the finest, quickest, toughest and most delightful running events across the UK for those seeking adventure or community spirit.
● Bah Humbug 10K, 1 December
Do yourself a favour and bring towels and plastic bags with you, because every bit of gear you wear during this event is likely to be caked with mud by the end. Therefore, the organisers have done well to ensure there are changing rooms and showers available for all runners.
racebest. com
● Winter Solstice Strider, 8 December
Dig that head flashlight out of the messy drawer for this after-dark run or walk for a good cause. You have a 5K route, which winds through the forest at the St Ives Estate. The route is far from flat and will almost certainly be muddy in places, so make sure your batteries are well charged in case there are emergencies.
sueryder. org
● The Christmas Charity Run, 21 December
This event is run by a most environmentally conscious organiser in the country, and is therefore only open to local runners to reduce car travel. Another great feature is that £7. 50 of the £10 entry fee goes straight to a local charity that supports people with cancer, making this one of the most positive-impact events that you could possibly find.
eventrac. co. uk
● Mapledurham 10& Half, 29 December
Mapledurham events are always well organised and, with unpleasant weather likely, you'll have to deal with some mud on the various uphills and downhills on whichever of the 10K, 10-mile or half-marathon courses you choose. The organisers have prioritised finding a good route over precise measurements, so all three races have a rather loose relationship with their stated distance.
mstevents. co. uk
21. Which website offers information for night run participants?
A. sueryder. org B. racebest. com
C. eventrac. co. uk D. mstevents. co. uk
22. What makes the Mapledurham events unique?
A. Eco-friendly goals. B. Flexible race distances.
C. Strong charity focus. D. Muddy running courses.
23. Which column of a magazine is the text probably from?

We all dream of adventure—of stepping into the unknown, far from the familiar, and losing ourselves in new experiences. But what happens when we get truly lost? For me, it happened in Lisbon.
It was my first solo trip abroad. Determined to drown myself fully, I left my map and phone behind, wandering Lisbon’s hills and beautiful lakes with nothing but curiosity. The pastel buildings, the sound of Fado music drifting from cafés, the scent of flowers—it was excellent. For hours, I drowned myself in the freedom of having no plan.
But as the sun set, I realized I didn’t recognize anything. The streets that had seemed charming now felt identical and strange. My heart raced as I traced my steps, only to find more unfamiliar corners. No phone, no Portuguese beyond basic phrases, no memory of my hostel’s neighbourhood—just me and the growing shadows.
What if I couldn’t find my way back? What if I spent the night wandering, weak and alone? Panic tightened my chest. But then, a quieter thought emerged: Was I really lost, or just uncomfortable?
I stopped fighting it. Instead of searching for directions, I paid attention to the paint on a wall, the shopkeeper sweeping his doorstep, the laughter spilling from a tiny restaurant. With no digital backup, I noticed everything. And slowly, the fear faded.
In a small square, I joined locals sharing wine and bread. We couldn’t speak the same language, but we connected through gestures and smiles.
Minutes later I was working on a borrowed map from a kind shopkeeper in vain (徒劳). When I passed a bakery with the smell of fresh bread—a reminder of my hostel’s neighbourhood, a little girl noticed my confusion. She pointed down a narrow alley (小巷), and said one word,“Praça.” Eventually, I came across a familiar street and made it back to my hostel.
We spend so much of life avoiding the feeling of being lost. But sometimes, it’s the only way to discover what we’re capable of. Lisbon taught me that the unknown isn’t something to fear—it’s where we often find ourselves.
24 Why did the author intentionally leave behind the map and phone?
A. To find hidden attractions. B. To fully enjoy the trip.
C. To avoid interruption of other people. D. To really experience the local dishes.
25. How did the author feel at first after realizing he was lost?
A. Anxious. B. Regretful. C. Curious. D. Doubtful.
26. What finally led the author to rediscover the familiar street?
A. A child’s simple instructions. B. The smell of a local bakery.
C. A shopkeeper’s clear map. D. Repeatedly tracing footprints.
27. What does the author want to express about facing the unknown?
A. It often leads to situations that should be avoided.
B. It calls for the use of modern technology.
C. It can help people discover their hidden abilities.
D. It prevents meaningful connections with locals.
C
The virtue of intellectual humility(谦逊)is getting much attention. While researchers define it differently, the core of the idea is “recognizing that one’s beliefs and opinions might be incorrect.”
But achieving intellectual humility is hard. Overconfidence is a long-lasting problem, faced by many, and does not appear to be improved by education or expertise. Even scientific pioneers can sometimes lack this valuable quality.
A. A. Michelson, the first American to win a Nobel Prize in science, expressed a striking view about the fundamental laws of physics, “It seems probable that most of the grand basic principles have now been firmly established.” Over the next few decades, fundamental physical theory witnessed its most dramatic changes.
Scientists can be mistaken about the accuracy of their own positions. Even so, there is reason to believe such mistakes will go public. But sometimes it takes a long time. Is there a way to encourage the pursuit of new, possibly unpopular scientific ideas, while acknowledging the great value and power of the scientific enterprise as it now stands?
Here is where intellectual humility can play a positive role in science. Intellectual humility is not skepticism. It does not imply doubt. An intellectually humble person may have strong commitments to various beliefs and may pursue those commitments with enthusiasm. Their intellectual humility lies in their openness to the possibility that nobody is in possession of the full truth, and that others, too, may have insights, ideas and evidence that should be taken into account when forming their own best judgments.
This openness to inquiry does not, of course, imply that scientists are bound to accept theories they take to be wrong. What we ought to accept is that we too might be wrong, that something good might come of the pursuit of those other ideas and theories, and that tolerating rather than accusing those who pursue such things just might be the best way forward for science and for society.
28. What is the core idea of intellectual humility?
A. Questioning everything. B. Avoiding firm beliefs.
C. Agreeing with all others. D. Accepting one’s possible errors.
29. What does Michelson’s example suggest about scientists?
A. They keep trying different ideas. B. They misjudge their own knowledge.
C. They often question the existing ideas. D. They dislike predicting what will happen.
30. What makes intellectual humility positive in science?
A. It rejects unpopular research. B. It tends to avoid firm commitments.
C. It leads to openness to others’ insights. D. It encourages doubts about all old ideas.
31. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To warn against ignoring new theories.
B To define the concept of intellectual humility.
C. To explain why people lack intellectual humility.
D. To discuss whether intellectual humility benefits science.
D
Scientists have discovered life in a place they once thought impossible. In a new study, a research team explored how tiny living things, or microbes, manage to survive in one of the planet’s harshest underwater environments. The site has a very high pH level, making it one of the most unfriendly places for life ever recorded. Because so few living cells exist there, it is often impossible to find signs of life like DNA.
To overcome this challenge, researchers used a different approach. They analyzed special fat molecules, known as chemical traces, which reveal biological activity. By studying these molecules found in sediment samples, scientists were able to understand how microbes survive in such extreme conditions. These fat molecules act as hidden clues to life, showing the survival strategies of organisms that feed on substances like methane. This method is sensitive enough to detect even the faintest signals from life.
These deep-sea microbial communities play an important role in the Earth’s carbon cycle. They get their energy not from sunlight, but from minerals in rocks and gases like carbon dioxide. This process produces methane, a key greenhouse gas. This shows that these microbes operate in a self-contained ecosystem, independent of the ocean above. Their existence proves that complex life processes can occur in complete isolation from the sun’s energy.
The discovery is highly significant. It proves that life can exist under extreme conditions, such as high pH and low levels of organic material. Furthermore, these fat molecules can help scientists tell the difference between modern, living cells and the remains of ancient life. This provides valuable insights into how life persists in places with very few nutrients. Some scientists even believe that similar environments could have been the birthplace of the earliest forms of life on Earth.
The samples were collected from previously unknown underwater mud volcanoes during a deep-sea research trip. Inspired by these findings, the team now plans to grow these microbes in controlled lab environments. Their goal is to learn more about how these organisms get nutrients and survive in such harsh conditions, further pushing the boundaries of our understanding of life itself.
32. What did researchers use instead of DNA to find the microbes?
A. Remains of ancient life. B. Gases from the rocks.
C. Sunlight from the surface. D. Special fat molecules.
33. What is the energy source for the deep-sea microbial communities?
A. Sunlight and the ocean surface. B. Other living creatures in the sea.
C. Minerals from rocks and gases. D. Methane and the carbon cycle.
34. What does the phrase “a self-contained ecosystem” in Paragraph 3 imply?
A. It operates independently of the ocean above.
B. It produces its own oxygen.
C. It is the only system of its kind on Earth.
D. It does not require any energy source.
35. What can be inferred from the discovery about the limits of life?
A. Life can only exist in environments with neutral pH.
B. Life is more adaptable than previously believed.
C. The deep sea is the only place for extreme life.
D. All microbes are capable of producing methane.

Kay was a 16-year-old high school student. Every morning, he rode his old bicycle to school. His family was financially disadvantaged—his parents worked as cleaners and barely made enough money to pay the bills. So Kay always tried to be careful with his things, afraid of causing any extra trouble.
One Tuesday morning, the sky was gray and it looked like it would rain. Kay hurried on his bicycle, worried about being late for class. As he turned a corner near the community park, a big bus suddenly appeared from the opposite direction. It was coming so fast that Kay didn’t have time to think. To avoid crashing into the bus, he quickly turned his bicycle to the right. But before he could stop, his bike hit a small black car parked by the roadside with a loud “bang”.
Kay fell off his bike and scraped (擦伤) his knee. He stood up in a panic and checked the car. Oh, no! The car’s left headlight was completely broken, and there was a long scratch (刮痕) on the door. Kay’s heart started beating fast. He looked around—there was no one on the street, and he didn’t see any security cameras nearby. “I could just leave,” he thought. “No one will know it was me.”
But then he thought about the car’s owner. The owner must have spent a lot of money on this car. If he left, the owner would have to pay for the repair all by himself. Kay looked into his schoolbag. He found a piece of sticky note and a pen. He wrote: “Dear car owner, I’m Kay, a student. I hit your car by accident this morning. I’m sorry. Please call 555–7890 so we can talk about the repair.” He stuck the note on the car’s windshield (风挡) and then rode to school, feeling a little nervous but also calm.

【67题答案】
【答案】
At night, Tina, the car owner, returned to her car and noticed the broken headlight first. She was shocked and annoyed when she saw the damage. “What on earth happened?” she murmured to herself. Then her eyes caught the sticky note on the windshield. She read it carefully, learning about Kay’s accident in detail. She took out her phone and dialed the number Kay had left without hesitation.
Contrary to what Kay might assume, Tina didn’t get angry at all. When Kay answered the phone, she said gently, “Hello, Kay. I’m Tina, the car owner. I saw your note. Accidents happen, and I really appreciate your honesty. Don’t worry about the money for the repair. I can manage it easily. You just focus on your studies.” Kay was extremely relieved and deeply grateful. He thanked Tina repeatedly. From that day on, Kay learned that honesty was always the best choice, and it could even bring unexpected kindness and understanding.
