During the break times between classes, Xiao Jingsheng from Beijing Shangdi Experimental School often rushed to the toilet then back to class with no time for anything else. But now that has changed. “I can have more time to rest and share interesting things with my classmates,” said the 14-year-old.
From this fall semester (学期), students at primary and middle schools in Beijing have longer breaks between classes. It has been changed from 10 minutes to 15 minutes so that students can spend more time outdoors for their physical and mental (心理的) health.
To help children better enjoy break time activities, some schools have mixed break time with labor education (劳动教育) by opening planting areas and animal breeding zones (饲养区).
“We have welcomed new friends to our school—some ducks and rabbits,” said Zhang Boren, a 13-year-old from Beijing 101 Middle School Kuangda Campus. “During the breaks, some play with these cute animals, while others exercise on the playground. We get closer to nature and it is refreshing (令人耳目一新的) and relaxing.”
As the break time is longer, making sure everyone is safe is also important. PE teachers from the School Affiliated to Chaoyang Education Research Center keep an eye on students playing on the ground.
“Sometimes the ground can be wet in the morning, so we tell the students to do more upper body exercises to avoid (避免) running and slipping (滑倒),” said one PE teacher.

People like eating fruit, and it’s hard to turn down a tasty banana. Because they taste good and you don’t have to wash them before eating them. However, British scientists say that the fruit may die out by 2050.
One reason for this is weather change. Scientists at the University of Exeter collected information from 27 countries. They found that weather change improved growing conditions (条件)in 21 of these countries. In the past 60 years, people could grow more bananas per hectare(每公顷).
However, if temperatures are too high, there won’t be so many bananas in these countries. Ten of the countries, the world’s biggest country of bananas, will have fewer bananas by 2050.
Why is that? In fact, the right temperature for growing bananas is between 24℃ and 32℃. If temperatures get too high, they will stop growing.
Diseases(疾病)are another reason of bananas’ death(死亡). Bananas are different from other plants(茎段). This means that all banana plants are almost the same. In other words, if a disease makes one plant die, it could make them all die.
One serious disease is called Panama. It happens in South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Australia. If one banana plantation has the disease, it will take 30 years until it can grow bananas again. Scientists have to find a way to fight against this disease.

You can buy lots of things during a livestream (直播), such as food and clothes, and now even a ticket to space.
On Oct 24, Deep Blue Aerospace, a Chinese space company (公司), sold two space travel tickets in a livestream. This was the first time space tickets were sold in China. The tickets were priced at 1.5 million (百万) yuan each. But during the stream, they were sold for 1 million yuan each.
The space trip will last about 12 minutes. According to the company, passengers (乘客) will sit in a spacecraft (航天器) that is about 4 meters tall and 3.5 meters wide, with six big windows and space for six people. The spacecraft will go 100 kilometers above Earth.
Travelers will experience weightlessness (失重) for at least five minutes and they can see Earth from above before coming back down safely. Passengers must be between 18 and 60 years old. They need to be healthy. They also have to take some security training before the trip to keep themselves safe.
The trip will use the company’s Nebula-1 rocket (火箭). It runs on oxygen and kerosene (煤油) and can be reused. This makes the launch (发射) cheaper. As this technology gets better, space tickets might become less expensive, said Huo Liang, CEO of Deep Blue Aerospace. The company plans to do lots of tests in 2026 to make sure the space trip is safe. They hope to begin the trip in 2027.

On Oct 24, Deep Blue Aerospace, a Chinese space company (公司), sold two space travel tickets in a livestream. This was the first time space tickets were sold in China. The tickets were priced at 1.5 million (百万) yuan each. But during the stream, they were sold for 1 million yuan each.
The space trip will last about 12 minutes. According to the company, passengers (乘客) will sit in a spacecraft (航天器) that is about 4 meters tall and 3.5 meters wide, with six big windows and space for six people. The spacecraft will go 100 kilometers above Earth.
Travelers will experience weightlessness (失重) for at least five minutes and they can see Earth from above before coming back down safely. Passengers must be between 18 and 60 years old. They need to be healthy. They also have to take some security training before the trip to keep themselves safe.
The trip will use the company’s Nebula-1 rocket (火箭). It runs on oxygen and kerosene (煤油) and can be reused. This makes the launch (发射) cheaper. As this technology gets better, space tickets might become less expensive, said Huo Liang, CEO of Deep Blue Aerospace. The company plans to do lots of tests in 2026 to make sure the space trip is safe. They hope to begin the trip in 2027.
