B I believe that my actions show my beliefs, not my words. I wrote a letter to my kids a few years ago. It’s three pages long, and it sums up my life experience of four decades. By the time they reach adulthood, they will have heard most of their father’s advice in that letter: live in the moment, do not attach yourself to physical things, treat others the way you would like to be treated, etc. I sealed the letter in a white envelope, and wrote instructions that nobody should open it unless something horrible happened to me. As a police officer, I have seen life disappear in an instant. I realize that could happen to me at any time. Yet knowing that letter is there in my locker makes me more comfortable with my own death. Every day, when I open my locker, I see the letter. It makes me aware that I should be careful at work, and show my children and the people I have connection with that I try to practice everything I have written. If that day comes and my children finally read the letter, I hope that because of my actions, they will take my written beliefs to heart and improve upon my example. But for me, it’s not enough to write down my beliefs. I try to be the best person I can be every day — even in very difficult circumstances. I am more successful some days than others but sometimes I curse too much. Sometimes I am cynical, unwilling to believe that people have good and honest reasons for doing something. I also get stressed and upset, yelling at my kids sometimes, and sometimes I am not as loving or as sympathetic as I should be. In fact, I am far from perfect, but I hope my children will eventually realize that perfection is an illusion. What really matters is that, instead of just writing down our beliefs, we all take action to be the best humans we can be. 4. Which of the following can best describe the author? A. Selfless. B. Considerate. C. Humble. D. Humorous. 5. Why did the author open the locker to see the letter every day? A. The letter served as a reminder. B. His kids asked him to check it. C He kept adding something new to it. D. He wanted to confirm his beliefs. 6. Which can replace the underlined word “cynical” in the last paragraph? A. Worried about his future life. B. Curious about everything around. C. Unsatisfied about his profession. D. Doubtful about others’ motivations. 7. What is the author’s understanding of life? A. To become a successful father. B. Parents should care for children. C. To be better today than yesterday. D. Bad guys deserve to be punished. C Set on a sloped plot (山坡) above Prague in the city’s Troja district, Villa Sophia has no keys, no light switches and a piano that can play by itself. The house can close the windows when it rains and read aloud materials it has selected from the Internet, based on the owners’ interests. “The house is like a brain,” said Michaela Pankova, who shares the home with her husband, Karel Panek, and their daughters. “It makes decisions for you based on previous experience.” The home, designed by the Prague-based firm Coll Coll, is intended to go beyond automated to autonomous. “As we say, if we have to control it ourselves, it’s not smart enough,” said Mr. Panek, a computer scientist. The couple wanted no compromises (妥协) in quality and efficiency. When they couldn’t find a technology that met their standards, Mr. Panek, the brain behind his home’s brain, designed his own system. While family members go about their daily lives, the system collects data and evaluates that data in real time, then comes up with solutions and implements (实施) them. It can accept deliveries when the family isn’t home, thanks to individual control of every door from afar and evaluation of the home’s external context. It can preheat the driveway to clear snow and ice (but only if it predicts its use, saving energy otherwise) and lock the doors. Put energy efficiency, home security and convenience aside, the system’s true benefit is that in developing beyond a smart home system to a smart home it frees the homeowner from the burden of constant control. Mr. Panek calls himself a technology optimist, but Mrs. Pankova said it took her some time to warm up to the system. “In the beginning I wasn’t into the idea of living in an AI house,” she said. “During the time of the preparation and later the construction, I slowly started to be open to the idea.” 8. What can we learn about Villa Sophia? A. It runs automatically. B. It can read what it favors online. C. It is poorly constructed. D. It can keep off extreme weather. 9. Who did some extra work to improve the control system of the house? A. Coll Coll. B. Mr. Panek. C. Mrs. Pankova. D. The couple’s kids. 10. What is the best advantage of the smart home? A. Picking up deliveries. B. Achieving smart energy saving. C. Preheating the driveway. D. Sparing the owner control burden. 11. What is the best title for the passage? A. Villa Sophia: Self-Running Home B. Villa Sophia: Auto-Window Home C. Villa Sophia: Energy-Saving Home D. Villa Sophia: Remote-Control Home D Imagine a busy restaurant; dishes clattering, music playing, people talking loudly over one another. It’s a wonder that anyone in that kind of environment can focus enough to have a conversation. A new study by researchers at Brown University’s Carney Institute for Brain Science provides some of the most detailed insights into the brain mechanisms that help people pay attention in such distraction, as well as what’s happening when they can’t focus. In an earlier psychology study, the researchers established that people can separately control how much they focus (by enhancing relevant information)and how much they filter (by tuning out distraction). The team’s new research, published in Nature Human Behaviour, shows the process by which the brain combines these two critical functions. To conduct the study, Ritz administered a cognitive task to participants while measuring their brain activity in an FMRI (Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging)machine. Participants saw a swirling mass of green and purple dots moving left and right, like a swarm of fireflies. The tasks, which varied in difficulty, involved distinguishing between the movement and colors of the dots. For example participants in one exercise were instructed to select which color was in the majority for the rapidly movıng dots when the rate of purple to green was almost50/50. Ritz and his co- writer Shenhav then compared the process to how humans harmonize muscle activity to perform complex physical tasks. “In the same way that we bring together more than50 muscles to perform a physical task like using chopsticks, our study found that we can integrate multiple varieties of concentrations in order to perform acts of mental flexibility,” said Ritz, who conducted the study as a PhD student at Brown. “These findings can help us to understand how we humans are able to exhibit such tremendous cognitive flexibility — to pay attention to what we want when we want to,” Shenhav said. “They can also help us better understand limitations on that flexibility, and how limitations might appear in certain attention- related disorders such as ADHD(注意力缺陷及多动障碍), which we will study and conduct in the future.” 12. Why does the author talk about the busy restaurant at the beginning of the text? A. To complain why people can’t focus attention. B. To show people’s attention among distraction. C. To call on conversation in the busy restaurant. D. To show one example of working environment. 13. What is the third paragraph mainly about? A. The research result. B. The research participants. C. The research questions. D. The research process. 14. What do people do when they are carrying out flexible acts? A. They adjust various forms of attention. B. They bring together more than 50 muscles. C. They pay attention to the complex physical task. D. They use instruments like chopsticks to help them. 15. According to Shenhav, what can the researchers do in the future? A. Ensure cognition. B. Research diseases. C. Show flexibility. D. Limit attention. Shyness is normal and it is not considered as a mental problem. All people have been shy at one time or another. It was her father’s favourite. She had brought it to her class beach barbecue to record memorable moments with her high school classmates. Jade held the camera close to her chest before drying it with a towel. She pressed the power button several times. No response. Tears of sadness welling up in her eyes, Jade gathered her belongings, determined to leave.“Jade, where are you going?” Her putzzled classmates called behind her, but she ignored them. Without saying goodbye, she ran away from the barbecue. She wanted to take the camera to the repairman immediately. Uncle Lee, the trusty repairman for all things digital, could only shake his head, give her a resigned look and say, “It’s beyond repair.” The camera was a gift from Jade’s mother to her father on his fortieth birthday. Since then, it had been his companion for all events, big and small. It had been instrumental in capturing all the significant milestones in their family. Numerous advanced digital cameras had come onto the market but his father had no intention of replacing the treasure. But this time she had secretly taken it out and ruined it! Her father would get cross with her and probably never trust her with his belongings again. Thinking of this, Jade put back the disabled camera quietly in her father’s drawer in the hope that her father wouldn’t find out the truth. Jade remained disturbed for a few days. Then came the day when her father went for his camera because Jade’s younger sister would be graduating from kindergarten and he was preparing for the ceremony. “What’s wrong with my camera? It was in good condition last Saturday. Maybe it’s too old to work,” Jade’s father said in disbelief, having tried turning it on several times and failed. “Take it easy, dear. Perhaps it’s high time to change for an advanced one,” Jade’s mother comforted him smilingly. “But I can’t part with this big treasure.” Her father responded. Hearing this, Jade gathered up her courage. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day, when Jade came home, she saw a new smartphone on her desk. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 长汀一中·厦门英才学校联考2025-2026学年第一学期12月月考 高二英语试卷 (考试时间:120分钟 总分:150分) 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? C. He kept adding something new to it. B 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第二段“By the time they reach adulthood, they will have heard most of their father’s advice in that letter: live in the moment, do not attach yourself to physical things, treat others the way you would like to be treated, etc. I sealed the letter in a white envelope, and wrote instructions that nobody should open it unless something horrible happened to me. 根据第四段“Every day, when I open my locker, I see the letter. It makes me aware that I should be careful at work, and show my children and the people I have connection with that I try to practice everything I have written. (每天,当我打开储物柜看到这封信时,它会让我意识到工作中应该谨慎行事,并向我的孩子以及身边的人展示我努力践行信中所写的一切)”可知,这封信起到了提醒的作用。故选A项。 根据最后一段“Sometimes I am cynical, unwilling to believe that people have good and honest reasons for doing something. (有时我会cynical,不愿意相信人们做某事是出于善良且真诚的原因)”可知,此处表示不愿意相信人们做事情是出于善良和真诚,由此推知,作者会怀疑他人的动机,cynical意为“怀疑他人动机的”。故选D项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“What really matters is that, instead of just writing down our beliefs, we all take action to be the best humans we can be. (真正重要的是,我们不只是写下自己的信念,而是要采取行动,努力成为最好的自己)”可知,作者认为生活的意义是每天都努力变得更好。故选C项。 C Set on a sloped plot (山坡) above Prague in the city’s Troja district, Villa Sophia has no keys, no light switches and a piano that can play by itself. Villa Sophia: Remote-Control Home 【答案】8. A 9. B 10. D 11. “These findings can help us to understand how we humans are able to exhibit such tremendous cognitive flexibility — to pay attention to what we want, when we want to,” Shenhav said. 12. B 13. D 14. A 15. While shyness has negative aspects, it has positive sides. Shy people are usually good observers and do not get themselves into too much trouble because they try to observe their environment or any situation before they act. ____19____ They can also make great friends. Since they have difficulties in social scenes, making friends seems to be a must. Therefore, they value their friends wholeheartedly and have proven to be loyal and thoughtful friends. ____20____ Some of them born with shy parents have successfully battled against being shy. This contributes to their constant self-improvement, developing self-esteem and trying to be exposed to new environments. A. But in most cases, shyness proves to be genetic. B. Some people are born to be shy, so they let it go hang. C. They are sensitive and accustomed to getting suspicious. D. They naturally avoid crowds, groups and social interactions. 【16题详解】 第一段是全文的开篇,前三句话“Shyness is normal and it is not considered as a mental problem. All people have been shy at one time or another. Even the most confident people experienced being shy.(害羞是正常的,它不被认为是一种心理问题。所有的人都有过害羞的时候。即使是最自信的人也有过害羞的经历。)”讲到害羞是正常现象,所有人,包括最自信的人,都曾害羞过,E项“So if you’re feeling shy, don’t worry because you are not alone.(所以,如果你感到害羞,不要担心,因为你并不孤单。)” 【17题详解】 上文“It may be because of the environment you were used to or the way you were brought up. Certain events or incidents in the past may also lead to the reason why you are shy now.(这可能是因为你所习惯的环境或你成长的方式。过去的某些事件也可能导致你现在害羞的原因。)”讲感到害羞可能与成长环境和特定事件等外部因素有关,而下文“Most shy people have shy parents and relatives and it is not surprising to find out that they too have become shy persons.(大多数害羞的人都有害羞的父母和亲戚,所以发现他们也变成了害羞的人并不奇怪。)” 故选A。 【18题详解】 根据下文“This apparently influences their social life as well as work, family and other aspects of their life.(这显然影响了他们的社交生活、工作、家庭和生活的其他方面。)” 【19题详解】 根据段首中心句“While shyness has negative aspects, it has positive sides.(虽然害羞有消极的一面,但它也有积极的一面。)”可知,本段主要介绍“害羞”的积极意义,G项“They are not hot-headed and think twice before making any decisions.(他们不是头脑发热的人,在做任何决定之前都会三思。)” 【20题详解】 根据下文“Some of them born with shy parents have successfully battled against being shy. This contributes to their constant self-improvement, developing self-esteem and trying to be exposed to new environments.(有些出生在害羞父母家庭的孩子已经成功地克服了自己的害羞。这有助于他们不断自我完善,发展自尊,并试图接触新的环境。)”可知,本段主要讲了害羞是可以战胜的,F项“Although shyness is something inborn, it can be improved over time.(虽然害羞是天生的,但它可以随着时间的推移而改善。)”讲害羞可以改善,作为段首中心句,是对全段内容的准确概括,且句中“it can be improved”与下文“their constant self-improvement, developing self-esteem”相照应。 One of my first international trips as an adult was traveling around the Caribbean. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version Hearing this, Jade gathered up her courage. Full of apology and regret, Jade gave an account of the whole story. “Sorry, dad, it’s all my fault. I know the camera means a lot to you. I hope to buy a new one for you with all my pocket money.” Turning back to fetch her money, she was stopped by her mother. “Honey, it’s just a camera. Your honesty matters most to us,” Her mother said smilingly, hugging her tightly. Relieved, Jade responded with gratitude, “Thank you, Mom. Never will I make such a mistake.” The next day, when Jade came home, she saw a new smartphone on her desk. On it was a note saying, “Jade, you’ve grown up. We’re proud of your integrity. This phone with a great built-in camera is for you. You can use it to capture memorable moments. Love, Dad & Mum.” Jade picked up the smartphone, tears of happiness streaming down her cheeks. She realized her parents’ love and forgiveness were more precious than any possession. She promised to herself that she would be more responsible and considerate, cherishing the trust her parents had in her. 词汇激活 行为类 ①买:buy /purchase ②拥抱:hug/embrace ③意识到:realize /be aware of ④用:use/employ 情绪类 ①感激:gratitude /appreciation ②珍贵的:precious/valuable 【点睛】[高分句型1] Her mother said smilingly, hugging her tightly.
