I believe dancing is in my nature, driven by my heartbeat, blood pulse, and the music in my mind. So I dance daily. The seldom-used dining room of my house has become my ballroom, with a hardwood floor, a stereo, and a disco ball. I have some music ready: waltz, swing, country, rock -and-roll, and tango (探戈舞曲). Each morning, I turn on the music, and it’s dance time! As a quiet woman, I dance alone, considering it a form of healthy movement and moving meditation.
Tango is my recent enthusiasm. It’s complex and difficult, so I take three lessons a week and go out to dance three nights a week. I m even planning a three month trip to Buenos Aires to immerse myself in tango culture.
The first time I went tango dancing, I was too intimidated to get on the floor. I remembered a similar experience at a village wedding on the Greek island of Crete, where I stayed on the sidelines because the fancy footwork confused me.
Moments later, an older woman, reading my mind, sat beside me and said, “If you join the dancing, you will feel foolish. If you do not, you will also feel foolish. So, why not dance?” She added that if I didn’t dance, they would know I was a fool, but if I tried, they would think well of me. Her words inspired me to take up the challenge of tango.
A friend viewed my passion for tango as an ambitious pursuit, saying, “Tango? At your age? You must be out of your mind!” But I see it as a deeply considered decision. My passion for tango hides my fear of aging and boredom. I seek the thrill of starting something new that challenges my mind, body, and spirit. My goal is to dance as long as I can and then age contentedly, knowing I’ve lived fully. So, when people question my tango at my age, I say, “No, I haven’t lost my mind. I’m just living.”
4. What does the underlined word “intimidated” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Bored. B. Excited.
C. Frightened. D. Surprised.
5. Why did the older woman talk with the author?
A. To make fun of her.
B. To encourage her to dance.
C. To teach her dancing skills.
D. To discuss Greek wedding dance.
6. What does the author want to tell us in the last paragraph?
A. Tango lets her live life fully.
B. Dancing makes her younger.
C. Aging should be faced actively.
D. New challenges bring true happiness.
7. What can be the best title for the text?
A. My Journey to Buenos Aires.
B. Dancing Beyond Age Limits.
C. Challenges of Learning Tango.
D. Overcoming Fear Through Tango.

Last year, the world lost more forests than ever before, with fires being the biggest cause. Land clearing for farming and other human activities also played major roles. The results are very worrying for the planet, which relies on forests to help fight climate change.
Researchers from the University of Maryland and the World Resources Institute (WRI) reported that the world lost about 25,870 square miles of primary rainforest last year. That’s almost double the amount that was lost in 2023. It wasn’t just rainforest that disappeared more rapidly last year. Due to strong wildfire seasons in Canada and Russia, the total tree cover loss increased by 5% over 2023. In all, the world lost 115,830 square miles of forests last year. That’s an area roughly the size of Italy.
WRI estimates that the world is losing forests at a rate of about 18 soccer fields every minute. In 2021, the leaders of more than 120 countries signed an agreement to stop forest loss and increase forest area by 2030. Sadly, that is not happening. 17 of the 20 countries with the most primary forests are losing more forests now than when they signed the agreement.
Brazil, with the most tropical (热带的) rainforest, suffered the greatest loss, accounting for 42% of the world’s primary forest loss. Brazil has been suffering from its worst drought ever. These dry conditions meant that fires caused 66% of its forest loss. Bolivia saw a 2.5 times increase in forest loss in 2024 compared to 2023, largely due to uncontrolled fires started for land clearing.
However, not all the news is bad. Indonesia reduced its primary forest loss by 11%, partly due to government efforts to prevent fires. Malaysia also saw a 13% drop in forest loss. To meet the goal of ending forest loss by 2030, the world needs to lower its forest loss by 20% every year. Rod Taylor, who works for WRI, says, “It’s time for governments, businesses and individuals to act now, or stopping the loss of forests will be more difficult.”
8. How does the author present the viewpoint in paragraph 2?
A. By offering expert opinions. B. By using vivid descriptions.
C. By sharing personal experiences. D. By providing statistical data.
9. What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The signing of the agreement. B. The goal of the agreement.
C. The rate of forest growth. D. The land clearing for farming.
10. What can we learn about Brazil and Bolivia from the text?
A. They are facing severe environmental challenges.
B. Their forest loss is mainly due to human activities.
C. Their forest loss is causing big economic problems.
D. They have successfully controlled their forest loss.
11. What does the author want to say by mentioning Rod Taylor?
A. Ultimate goal is within reach. B. Action is needed without delay.
C. Governments need to do more. D. Joint efforts can solve the problem.
D
Brains are usually considered a bacteria-free zone. But that’s not the case for some fish. Wild and lab-grown salmonids (鲑科鱼)harbor active microbial (微生物的)communities in their brains. Most of the bacteria found in brains of lab-reared rainbow trout (虹鳟)appear to have initially come from their blood and guts. That suggests that microbes from other parts of the body can cross the blood-brain barrier. That layer of cells lies between brain cells and blood vessels, letting oxygen and nutrients in and keeping bacteria out.
Microbial infection of animal brains has usually been linked to disease. For instance, brain-infiltrating microbes may be linked with Alzheimer’s disease in people. But brain bacteria aren’t necessarily bad news for fish. “The bacteria might even help rainbow trout pick up on microbial cues in the environment, aiding the migratory fish in navigation (航行)rivers,” says Irene Salinas, an immunologist studying fish.
Salinas’ team searched for bacteria in brain samples from rainbow trout and grew 54 types of bacteria from lab-reared fish. That suggests that fish brains have a microbial community. Genetic analyses also revealed signs that bacteria adapt to living in the brain and cross the blood-brain barrier.
While brain bacteria might not always be harmful to fish, there are exceptions. For example, the brains of aging Chinook salmon nearing death tend to have higher levels of bacteria compared to those of younger fish. These aging brains also show a buildup of amyloid-beta, a protein linked to Alzheimer’s disease in humans. This suggests that, similar to gut microbes, brain bacteria can potentially go out of balance, leading to health problems.
The new findings open up questions about whether only fish have bacteria in the brain. Other animals may have brains chock-full of microbes, too. “When it comes to fish, there’s lots of diversity of different fishes on the planet,” Salinas says. “Maybe deep-sea fish or sharks have unique brain bacteria that help them live far below the surface.”
12. What function does the blood-brain barrier play in salmonids?
A. To block oxygen. B. To produce bacteria.
C. To provide nutrients. D. To keep the brain healthy.
13. In which way can the brain bacteria help rainbow trout?
A. Finding the way. B. Boosting growth.
C. Controlling disease. D. Preventing infection.
14. What does the example of the aging Chinook salmon imply?
A. Aging fish have few brain bacteria.
B. Young fish lack enough brain bacteria.
C. Brain bacteria can cause health problems.
D. Brain bacteria are always beneficial to fish.
15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Brain bacteria of the sea life are the same.
B. More research on animals’ brain bacteria is needed.
C Many animals’ brains are full of different microbes.
D. Salinas will study why fish can live far below the surface.

Every Saturday at 10 am, our family would push open the glass door of Maple Tree Diner, greeted by the smell of delicious food. The moment the bell above the door rang, Mr Carter behind the counter would call out, “Window table’s ready for Team Miller!” That corner table by the sunny window had witnessed countless pancake breakfasts, homework sessions, and my little brother Noah’s slow but steady progress with his speech disorder.
Noah, now eight, had always been shy around strangers. But at the diner, something magical happened. Maybe it was how waitress Maria remembered his exact order (chocolate chip pancakes cut into squares) without being told, or how old Mr Jenkins at the next table would pretend not to notice when Noah practiced saying “thank you” to the salt shaker first before trying it on real people. Over two years, those weekend visits helped Noah’s confidence grow like the big tree shading our favorite table.
Last weekend, our routine was broken. A flat tire made us an hour late — a lifelong time in Noah’s world. When we finally arrived, Noah seemed to be at a loss, and his “I’m trying not to cry” face fully activated. The diner buzzed with its usual Saturday crowd, but to Noah, the unfamiliar faces might as well have been from a foreign country. His eyes hurried toward our usual table—occupied by a family with laughing young children.
Maria spotted us first from across the room. Her usual cheerful greeting caught in her throat when she saw Noah’s expression. Without hesitation, she abandoned the coffee pot mid-pour and wove through the tables toward us. The regulars at the counter moved their chairs, sensing something special unfolding.
That morning, our delayed breakfast became a reminder that some places don’t just serve food—they help voices find their wings. But in that tense moment when we first arrived late, all that mattered was the upset written across Noah’s face. His wide eyes scanned the crowded diner desperately, searching for the one person who always knew how to make things right.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Maria at the counter immediately noticed Noah’s upset.

Just as I was about to apologize for our lateness, Noah did something unexpected.

D. Overcoming Fear Through Tango.
【答案】4. C 5. B 6. A 7. B
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。主要讲述作者对舞蹈的热爱,尤其是探戈,以及舞蹈对她生活的意义。
【4题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“The first time I went tango dancing, I was too intimidated to get on the floor. I remembered a similar experience at a village wedding on the Greek island of Crete, where I stayed on the sidelines because the fancy footwork confused me.(我第一次去跳探戈时,太intimidated了,不敢上场。我记得在希腊克里特岛的一个乡村婚礼上也有过类似的经历,当时我因为复杂的舞步让我感到困惑,所以只能站在一旁。)”可知,作者因为舞步复杂而不敢上场,所以“intimidated”是“害怕的”意思。故选C项。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Moments later, an older woman, reading my mind, sat beside me and said, “If you join the dancing, you will feel foolish. If you do not, you will also feel foolish. So, why not dance?” She added that if I didn’t dance, they would know I was a fool, but if I tried, they would think well of me. Her words inspired me to take up the challenge of tango.(过了一会儿,一位年长的女士看穿了我的心思,坐在我旁边说:“如果你加入跳舞,你会觉得自己很傻。如果你不跳,你也会觉得傻。那么,为什么不跳呢?”她补充说,如果我不跳,他们会知道我是个傻瓜,但如果我尝试了,他们会对我有好感。她的话激励我接受探戈的挑战。)”可知,年长女士的话是为了鼓励作者去跳舞。故选B项。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“My goal is to dance as long as I can and then age contentedly, knowing I’ve lived fully. So, when people question my tango at my age, I say, “No, I haven’t lost my mind. I’m just living.”(我的目标是尽可能长时间地跳舞,然后心满意足地老去,知道自己活得很充实。所以,当人们质疑我这个年纪跳探戈时,我说:“不,我没有疯。我只是在好好生活而已。”)”可知,作者想告诉我们探戈让她的生活变得充实。故选A项。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段“A friend viewed my passion for tango as an ambitious pursuit, saying, “Tango? At your age? You must be out of your mind!” But I see it as a deeply considered decision. My passion for tango hides my fear of aging and boredom. I seek the thrill of starting something new that challenges my mind, body, and spirit. My goal is to dance as long as I can and then age contentedly, knowing I’ve lived fully. So, when people question my tango at my age, I say, “No, I haven’t lost my mind.
C
【答案】8. D 9. B 10. A 11. B

C. Many animals’ brains are full of different microbes.
D. Salinas will study why fish can live far below the surface.
【答案】12. D 13. A 14. C 15. B

第二节 (满分 25 分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 个左右;

Just as I was about to apologize for our lateness, Noah did something unexpected.

【答案】例文
Maria at the counter immediately noticed Noah’s upset. She quickly came over and knelt down to Noah’s level. “Hey, Noah. It’s okay. We’ve all been a bit late sometimes. Your favorite table is still waiting for you. And look, I’ve kept your chocolate chip pancakes special, just the way you like.” Her warm words seemed to calm Noah a little.
Just as I was about to apologize for our lateness, Noah did something unexpected. He took a deep breath and said, “Thank... you, Maria.” His voice was a bit shaky, but it was clear. Everyone around us, including the other customers, smiled. Maria’s eyes lit up with pride. “That’s wonderful, Noah! Now, let’s go to our special table and enjoy those pancakes.” And with that, Noah walked a bit more confidently towards the table, as if the little setback was just a small cloud passing by.
