Passage 1
(2025·辽宁·中考真题)
The new school year is coming. Who will be your new classmates? Will you sit alone or in pairs? In fact, there are many different classroom seating arrangements (排列). Let’s take a look at some of them.
Traditional Seating
Students sit alone in rows. This seating arrangement helps students listen to the teacher carefully. But it is not convenient for students to have discussions in class.
Paired Seating
Two desks are put together. Students sit side by side. Sitting in pairs allows students to discuss and cooperate with their deskmates (同桌).However, some students can’t focus on their lessons because they may chat with their deskmates.
Group Seating
Students sit in small groups, facing each other. This arrangement is great for either large classes or small classrooms. It is good for group discussions and cooperation. But there is a problem. When students are doing group work, some of them may sit back and leave others to find a way out.
U-Shape Seating
Desks are placed in a U-shape. This kind of seating creates an open space in the middle. The teacher has enough space to move around. However, it takes up more classroom space.
Every coin has two sides. Every seating arrangement has its own advantages and disadvantages.
24.How do students sit in traditional seating?
25.What is the disadvantage of U-shape seating?
26.Which of the seating arrangements help students cooperate with each other?
27.Which seating arrangement do you like best? Give your reason (s). Write 30 words or more.
Passage 2
(2024·辽宁·中考真题)
Cooperation comes from friendship, friendship comes from trust, and trust comes from kindness. It’s easy to tell that kindness is very important. What is kindness then? To be exact, kindness is the quality of being friendly. If we give up our seats on the bus, help a classmate solve a math problem, or welcome a new member into a group activity, we are showing kindness. Actually, these acts are done without expectation of reward (回报).
We begin to realise that while helping others, we’re in fact helping ourselves. Showing kindness benefits us in different ways. It helps us know about ourselves. It develops our problem-solving skills. It also gives us the chance to be thankful.
We can never imagine the power of one simple act of kindness. It may change our day. And that day may change our week. That week may change the rest of the year—or even our whole life.
In short, we rise by lifting others.
Here are some teenagers’ acts of kindness.
Linda: I sat next to a new student at lunch. I was pleased because I made her day.
Kayla: In order to raise money and protect wild animals, I held a singing competition. Iwas proud of it.
Peter: I opened the door for an old lady. I felt happy because I could help other people.
1.What is kindness according to the text?
2.List two benefits of showing kindness.
3.What did Linda do to show her kindness?
4.What do you think of Peter’s act of kindness? Write 30 words or more.

Over the years, Mr. Zhao has faced many challenges. Sometimes, the wood would crack (破裂), or pieces of wood couldn’t match each other. He always took great pains to fix the problem, even though it meant starting again. His patience and attention to the details made his work better and better.
One day, Mr. Zhao was asked to make a special table for a museum. It had to be perfect and be finished in a period of ten days. People came from far to enjoy this wonderful table.

Passage 4
(2025·辽宁沈阳沈河区·二模)
Teamwork Makes a Difference
During the summer vacation, I took part in a summer camp in Chengdu.
There I made many friends and had some extraordinary (非凡的) experiences. I saw lovely pandas, visited some museums, and had hot pot. However, the most impressive part for me was the teamwork.
One day, after watching the pandas, making differently shaped food for them to eat, and cutting bamboo leaves, the teacher asked us to create a mind map of what we had learned and experienced over those days. I worked on it with my three new friends. We came up with a lot of different ideas and we decided to work together. I was in charge of the writing part. We finished it as quickly as possible. When the four of us shared it with others, I felt proud.
It can be hard to do a task alone. But in some ways, teamwork is even more challenging. It needs us to communicate well, set clear goals, play our own roles, and trust and respect each other. But the fruit of teamwork can be very sweet!
1.Did the author have hot pot?
2.When did the teacher ask the author to create a mind map?
3.How did the author feel when the author’s team shared the mind map?
4.According to the last paragraph, teamwork needs us to communicate well, set clear goals, play our own roles, and trust and respect each other. Well, which do you think is the most important? Why? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 5

The book review of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
Are you looking for ways to be happier, successful and certain of yourself? Sean Covey’s book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens may help.
Habit1: Take control.
Habit 2: When starting, think about your end goal first.
Habit 3: Put first what’s the most important.

Habit 5: Try to understand before seeking (搜索) to be understood.
Habit 6: Work together.

Sean Covey suggests this book will help you in many ways, such as:
·You will gain more control over your life and depend less on others.
·Your life will become clearer and less mess as a result.
·You will become more productive (富有成效的), with less waste in your life.
How can The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens help me?
Here are a few tips for you to remember when you read this book:
·Read this book with an open and critical (批判性的) mind, not with unmindful (漫不经心的) belief because this book is written from the western view.
·Do not try to get all habits at once; rather, choose the ones that seem most sensible (敏感的) for you and work on them step by step, and celebrate your progress along the way.
·Do not try to finish everything on your own; get help and suggestions from people who share your goals or values such as friends, family, teachers or anyone else you feel can turn to.

2.What is the first habit of successful teens?

Passage 6
(2025·辽宁沈阳和平区·二模)
Everyone loves gifts! But each country has different customs (习俗).
As a German living in China, I’ve seen some interesting differences from home. For example, in China, people often give fruits and milk. In Europe, these are usually for hospital visits.
Many Europeans open their gifts right away, although not in places like Germany. It’s also important to take off the price tag (标签) before giving the gift.
What if you don’t like your gift? In Spain, you still need to say you love the gift so you won’t hurt the other person’s feelings. But if they remember to leave the receipt (收据) inside the gift, you can just change it for something else.
How the gift looks is also important. However, by using wrapping paper (包装纸) for every gift we buy, we make a lot of waste. Now, many are choosing newspapers or maps as wrappings to help the environment.
Do Europeans give money as gifts? Yes. Polish couples, for example, often want cash at weddings (婚礼) to cover the cost of the weddings.
Finally, remember: It’s the thought that counts, not the price of the gift.
1.Which country does the writer come from?
2.Why are people choosing newspapers or maps as wrappings now?
3.According to the writer, which is more important for a gift, the thought or the price of it?
4.What is the best gift you have ever received and why? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 7
(2025·辽宁沈阳沈北新区·二模)
It’s common to care about what other people think. However, we shouldn’t spend so much time on it. Indeed, if we spent all day worrying about how our actions make us appear, we’d never get anything done. So, how do we learn to ignore others’ opinions? Well, the answer is about learning to value who we are. It means that we should live our lives for ourselves, not for other people. There are a couple of ways to go about doing this.
First, we should remember that our biggest judges (裁判) are ourselves. If we have a low opinion of ourselves, then we think that others feel the same way about us. To get over this, British therapist (心理治疗师) Chloe Brotheridge wrote in Psychology Today that we should “learn to love ourselves”. For example, you can make a list of the things you’ re good at and practice them every day. You can also spend more time with people who love you instead of with those who don’t. These things can help you feel better about yourself.
Second, as Brotheridge wrote, “We can’t control the way other people react to us, no matter how hard we try.” By realizing this, you can learn to focus more on things that make you unique (与众不同的).
In addition, we shouldn’t completely forget about how we act around other people. After all, nobody likes to have someone jump ahead of them in a queue (长队), for example. So, the best thing to remember is to always be nice to others.
1.How many suggestions does the writer give us about living our lives for ourselves?
2.Where does Chloe Brotheridge come from?
3.What is the best thing to remember?
4.Is it important for us to learn to love ourselves? Why or why not? (Write 30 words or more)

Passage 9
(2025·辽宁沈阳大东区·二模)
Scientists from China’s Shanghai Jiao Tong University are developing a robot “guide dog” to help blind people. With the help of cameras and AI, the robot dog can see, listen and speak with blind people. Blind people can also use a cane (手杖) to control the robot’s walking and running speed. The robot can even recognize traffic lights—real guide dogs are unable to do that.
The robot dog is about the size of an English bulldog but a little wider. It has six legs instead of four. The other two legs make it more steady (稳定的) and help it move faster.
41-year-old Li Fei and 42-year-old Zhu Sibin are helping test the robot. Li is totally blind and Zhu can only see a little. “The robot dog will make it easier to get into public places. It could change our lives in the near future,” Li said.
In China, there are about 17.31 million blind people, but there are only about 400 guide dogs. The new robot is trying to solve this problem. “We believe our robot will act as ‘a pair of eyes’ for blind people,” said Professor Gao Feng, one of the scientists. He thinks there could be a large market for these robot dogs.
1.How can the robot dog see, listen and speak with blind people?
2.How many legs does the robot dog have?
3.What will the new robot act as for blind people?
4.Do you agree with Li Fei’s opinion? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 10
(2025·辽宁沈阳皇姑区·二模)
AI Act: Rules for Safe Technology
In 2025, the European Union (EU) begins using a new law called the AI Act to manage dangerous artificial intelligence. The law stops AI systems that can hurt people’s safety or rights. For example, it bans (禁止) AI tools that give people unfair scores based on their behavior. The AI Act also sorts AI into four groups by risk. AI with high risk, like robots in hospitals, must pass many safety checks. Companies that ignore (忽略) the rules could pay large fines (罚款).
Some people, think the law keeps people; safe and stops AI from being used wrongly. Others worry it might make new ideas grow slower. Small tech companies may find it hard to follow all the rules. But the EU says these rules are important to make people trust AI.
1.What does the EU start using in 2025?
2.How many risk groups is AI sorted into?
3.What must high-risk AI pass before being used?
4.Can strict laws make people trust AI more? Why or why not? Write 30 words.
Passage 11
(2025·辽宁沈阳铁西区·二模)
One day, our English teacher Mr. White came into the classroom with a book in his hand. He started his lesson with a question, “Who can describe what stress is like?” No one answered. Then he raised the book and asked, “How heavy is the book?”
On hearing the question, we began to think and guess. One student said, “I think it is 100g.” Another student said, “It’s 200g.” Our answers were different.
Finally, Mr. White explained, “It doesn’t only depend on the real weight. It also has much to do with the time we hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it is OK. If I hold it for an hour, I will have a pain in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, I will have to see a doctor. It is the exact same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.”
“This book is just like stress,” he continued. “If you hold it without putting it down, sooner or later, you will not be able to keep on. No matter how much stress you have, stop and have a rest for a while if possible.”
We all thanked Mr. White for giving such a meaningful lesson which made a difference to us.
1.How did Mr. White start his lesson one day?
2.How long did Mr. White say he could hold the book before his arm hurt?

Passage 12
(2024·辽宁沈阳·二模)
Natural disasters can hit anywhere, anytime, and being prepared is the key to staying safe. Earthquakes, typhoons (台风), and floods are common natural disasters that can cause terrible damage (破坏) and bring serious threats (威胁) to safety.
Earthquakes suddenly shake the ground, often without warning. To stay safe during an earthquake, people had better “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” until the shaking stops. You can find a strong table to hide under and hold on.
Typhoons, known as hurricanes or cyclones in other parts of the world, can lead to strong winds and too much rain. Before a typhoon arrives, storing necessary things like food, water, and batteries is important.
Floods can happen when rivers run over because of too much rain. To prepare well, avoid building homes in the areas where floods often happen and place important electrical appliances (电器) up off the ground in your home. Having an emergency plan is also a must.
By understanding these disasters and taking action, communities and people can reduce the risk of harm and recover (恢复) more quickly after disasters happen.
1.How many kinds of natural disasters are mentioned in the text?
2.Why are people advised to “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” until the shaking stops?
3.What can typhoons cause according to the text?
4.Which other disaster do you know and how can you keep safe in it? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 13
(2024·辽宁大连·二模)
Mars, Robots, Higher Prices and More
What will the world look like in 2045? I recently spoke with four American students, Caden Sorensen, Chandler Stark, Fatima Abdi and Noelani Velasco Polley, to get their thoughts on this question.
In 2045, the kids think, humans will be able to live on Mars. They suggest that everyone should spend a few years on the red planet to give the Earth a “rest”. “And when we come back, we must try not to pollute as much,” says Stark.
But Mars is not yet ready for human habitation (居住). The kids agree that immediate action must be taken to clean up the Earth. “It’s time to fix it now,” says Sorensen. “It’s not going to fix itself.”
The kids do not just care about progress in space exploration. They are also interested in the future jobs.
Stark hopes to compose (创作) music for TV shows one day. Abdi wants to be a business owner. Sorensen dreams about becoming a lawyer. Polley wants to be a scientist.
“I don’ t think there will be a lot of fast-food jobs,” said Abdi. She also thinks that everything is going to get a lot more expensive. “People will have to look for higher-paying jobs.”
Many jobs, the kids predict (预测), will be replaced by robots. “There’ll be no more factory jobs because robots can just do everything,” says Stark. But they believe the power to shape the future is in human hands. The world will be a better place, but of course, “we need to work hard, and we all need to learn to be kind to others.”
1.In the kids’opinion, where will humans be able to live in 2045?
2.What is Sorensen’s idea about the Earth?
3.Why does Stark say there will be no more factory jobs?
4.What do you think the world will look like in 2045? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 14
(2025·辽宁大连·一模)
Hello everyone! Here comes this month’s Campus (校园) Brain Game. We’re going to talk about what you would like to invent. Let your imagination run wild and post your thoughts below.
—Andrew, Student Union President
Students have a lot of homework. They often go to bed late and wake up early for school. I’d like to invent a machine to help you get ready in the morning without waking you up. It would carefully pick you up, take you to the bathroom and brush your teeth. It would get you dressed and set you down at the dining room table. Then it would gently wake you for breakfast. You’d be ready for school on time while still getting a good night’s sleep!
—Michelle, from Grade 8
I’d invent a time machine that could take us to any day in history. We would finally be able to answer questions like “What killed the dinosaurs?” Just think how different all the world would be if every question about history life would be answered. We would know almost everything. And we could visit the past or the future to see how humanity (人类) has changed. Imagine visiting your ancestors! Imagine going to the future to tell people about life in the past! Just think about all that fun!
—Troy, from Grade 8
A flying car! You could go anywhere you wanted. It could prevent traffic jams during rush hour. We wouldn’t have to build as many highways. There would be more space to plant trees. The air would be cleaner. My flying car would be powered by solar energy (太阳能). We could save the Earth and all the plants and animals, too.
—Rebecca, from Grade 7
1.Why does the Student Union hold the Campus Brain Game?
2.In Michelle’s eyes, what problem do students face?
3.What is Troy’s interest according to what he would like to invent?
4.What do you think of Rebecca’s idea? Write 30 words or more.

Run Like a Pro (职业运动员)
For many people, running is one of the simplest ways to stay fit. But running can sometimes be dangerous if we do it the wrong way. For your safety, learn these tips (建议) and try to be a good runner!
Take your time
If you develop an interest in running, you may want to run often. However, overdoing it or pushing yourself too hard can cause you to get hurt. It’s also important not to run too fast at the beginning. Run at a pace (步速) that feels comfortable. And if you’re planning on a long run, remember to increase your pace slowly.
Take breaks
Resting is as important as training. Your body needs time to rest after hard runs. Running coach Sam Murphy says that if you run hard one day, you should take a break or do an easier run the next day. Some runners follow the 80/20 plan: 80% of their runs each week are easy, and only 20% are hard.
Have a strong body
According to Runner’s World, strength (力量) training is great for runners. It can help make your body stronger, lower the risk of getting hurt, and even improve your speed. However, this doesn’t mean you need to do heavy weight training. Simple exercise at home, like sit-ups and push-ups, can be good too.
Have a good diet
Eating and drinking the right things is also important. “Many people forget this,” Dr. Paul Hobrough said. “Drink plenty of water and eat foods rich in protein (蛋白质), like eggs, chicken and milk. These can help your energy return quickly.”
1.To be a good runner, what should you do at the beginning of a long run?
2.According to Runner’s World, what can help lower the risk of getting hurt?
3.Why is it important for the runners to have a good diet?
4.Which of the tips can improve your running habit? How will you use it? Write 30words or more.
Passage 16
(2025·辽宁大连沙河口区·一模)
Dear Allan,
My name is Xiaojing. In junior high school I passed, I made good progress in English with the help of my teacher. Now, I’m excited about going to senior high school in September.
Yesterday, my elder sister said to me, “You ought to memorize more new words during the summer vacation because you will find there is a large vocabulary in a single text when you study in senior high school. Besides, grammatical rules will be more confusing (令人困惑的).”
I love English. I do hope to keep my interest and become a better English learner. Could you please give me some advice?
Eager Xiaojing
Dear Xiaojing.
Glad to know that you love English. It matters. Don’t worry too much about new words and confusing grammatical rules.
For vocabulary learning, my suggestion is to understand and remember new words and expressions in context (上下文). As for grammar learning, you need to understand the building blocks of grammar. They lead up to more complex (复杂的) forms. With enough time, effort and practice, you will not feel confused with grammar any more and finally get a better understanding of it.
From your mail, I know that you’re interested in English and you want to keep your interest in learning it. Here are a few tips for you.
Listening to English songs is a good way. It can not only help to keep your interest in learning English, but also improve your listening skills. In addition, English songs can also be used to practise your pronunciation.
Watching movies, especially animated (动画的) ones, is another interesting way because of their simple dialogues. Moreover, animated movies are usually filled with body language and facial expressions. They can make the dialogues much more understandable.
Just make sure you spend enough time on the language happily. That is the key to success.
Allan
1.What does Xiaojing hope to do in her letter?
2.What’s Allan’s suggestion for vocabulary learning?
3.Why is watching animated movies an interesting way to learn English? (List one point)
4.How are you going to keep your interest in learning English? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 17
(2025·辽宁大连西岗区·一模)
My name is Bernie. I sold my house and left my job. There was one thing that I just could not leave behind: my cat, Willow. There was a simple way to solve it—I went on a journey with my best animal friend! In the past 3 years, we have travelled over 70,000 kilometers around Australia. We have seen forests and beaches together. This year, we spent three months in the desert. I am happy to go back to the beautiful beach, but I’m not sure what Willow thought. Some people were surprised to find that I was travelling with a cat. Once a backpacker (背包客) at a campsite (露营地) shouted, “Excuse me, there is a cat trying to get into your van (面包车).”
I know. The van, a tiny house on wheels, is our home. I built it by myself with a bed, cupboards, a kitchen and plenty of places for a little cat to hide! It might be small, but the whole Australia is our garden.
Willow enjoys exploring the places she has never visited, but she doesn’t like to go too far from our van. She loves to sit on the dashboard (仪表盘) to enjoy a great view. I post our photos on social media and look forward to hearing from people all over the world who are following our adventures.
We are lucky. We always have each other and the whole Australia to see. I will treasure the memory for a lifetime. If Willow has taught me anything, it is that happiness doesn’t require much. A bit of food, shelter and a whole lot of love will be well enough.
1.How far has Bernie travelled in the past 3 years?
2.Why does Willow love sitting on the dashboard?
3.What has Bernie learned from his cat Willow?
4.Who would you most like to travel with? Why? (Write 30 words or more.)
Passage 18
(2025·辽宁大连中山区·一模)
Conductor (乐队指挥) throws out audience (观众) member whose phone rang!
At the National Music Hall in Madrid, Wednesday’s performance (演出) of Handel’s Messiah was cut in by a mobile phone ringing in a row close to the stage. Conductor William Christie stopped the performance, turned, pointed at the man, and shouted, “Out! You have just broken one of the most beautiful works ever written.” The phone owner got up and quickly left the hall.
Comments
Danny 23 December 14:50
Good for him. It’s time to say no to this kind of behavior (行为). If people can’t live without their phones for two hours, they shouldn’t go to concerts. We need a new rule for concert halls and theatres: You have to leave your phone in a certain place outside the hall. And the same for the cinema!
REPLY Cassie 23 December 17:30
Great idea. I would also add another rule: If you are caught with a mobile phone in the concert hall, you might pay a fine (罚款)!
REPLY Anton 23 December 19:43
If people aren’t allowed to use phones at concerts, the theatre will lose a lot of audience. There are people who have work phones, and their companies tell them they mustn’t give their phones to anyone.
REPLY Kasia 24 December 01: 16
I think all concert halls should block (阻断) mobile phone reception (接受).
REPLY Marcel 24 December 07:08
Blocking reception wouldn’t solve the problem. Sometimes it’s an alarm (闹钟) that makes the phone ring. What really matters is to raise the awareness (意识) of rules.
1.Why was the conductor angry?
2.What did the phone owner do after he/she heard the conductor’s words?
3.Among the reply providers, whose opinions are different from Danny’s?
4.Which reply do you agree with? Why? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 19
(2025·辽宁大连金普新区二模)
The Father of China’s Nuclear Submarines (核潜艇)—Huang Xuhua
Huang Xuhua, a great Chinese scientist, passed away on February 6th, 2025. But his amazing actions and strong spirit will always stay in our hearts and keep guiding China’s future.
Born in Guangdong Province in 1926, Huang saw his country had a very hard time under foreign attacks when he was young. These sad memories made him study hard, promising to use his knowledge to make his country stronger.
In the 1950s, when China started the difficult task of building nuclear submarines, Huang Xuhua stepped in without fear. Without advanced (先进的) technology or enough support, the task felt almost impossible. But he and his team took the challenge. To keep the project secret, they stopped talking to people outside, even their families. Huang Xuhua didn’t go back to his hometown for many years.
While designing, they faced many problems. For example, designing a nuclear reactor (反应堆) was very hard. Without help from other countries, they had to do their own research. Using basic tools like calculators and rulers, they worked hard to calculate (计算) and test. Another big problem was making sure the submarine stayed stable (稳定的) underwater. After many tries and tests, they slowly solved these problems.
Finally, in the 1970s, China’s first nuclear submarine was built and tested successfully, making China one of the few countries with this ability. Huang Xuhua didn’t stop there and he kept helping to improve submarine technology. His hard work brought him many awards, including the “Medal of the Republic” in 2019.
Now, as we remember him, we see that his life is encouraging. We, especially the younger people, should learn from his spirit. Let’s take his place, face challenges bravely, and work hard to make China stronger, keeping his spirit alive.
1.What was Huang Xuhua?
2.Why did Huang decide to work hard for a stronger China when he was young?
3.How did Huang’s work influence China?
4.What can we learn from Huang Xuhua? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 20
(2025·辽宁大连甘井子区·一模)
Ma Junhe, a 14-year-old student from Zhengzhou in Henan province, recently made a telescope (望远镜). Costing only 70 yuan to make, the telescope allows him to see the craters (环形山) on the moon.
His interest in physics encouraged him to make this telescope. After learning about Newtonian Reflector Telescopes (牛顿式反射望远镜) in his physics class, he decided to make one himself.
Because he didn’t have a lot of money, he had to be creative to find what he needed to make the telescope. He bought lenses (镜头) online, and collected other materials on his own. “I used an old plastic pipe (塑料管) for the lens cone (镜筒), and it was held by my drum stand,” Ma said.
Ma faced many challenges along the way. First, he used cardboard to make a lens cone, as taught in class, but it didn’t work well. With his teacher’s advice, he used a plastic pipe. When he set up the eyepiece (目镜), he found it was much smaller than the pipe’s opening. He had to try many times to make sure it fit.
After failing 10 times, Ma finally succeeded. His telescope has a magnification (放大率) of 90 times, allowing him to clearly see the moon’s craters.
“Seeing the moon’s craters through my telescope made me feel so excited and good about myself,” said MA.“With enough drive and hard work, even with little money, anyone can do something so amazing.”
1.How much did Ma Junhe’s telescope cost?
2.Why did Ma Junhe make the telescope himself?
3.What did Ma Junhe do for the telescope with less money?
4.What do you think of Ma Junhe? Why? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 21
(2025·辽宁鞍山·一模)
China has made great progress in controlling deserts over the past 30 years. Through hard work and smart plans, large areas of deserts have been turned into green lands.
One famous example is the Kubuqi Desert in Inner Mongolia. This success story shows how deserts can become useful lands. By planting special grasses and trees, people have fixed moving sand and increased forest coverage from 5% to 53% since 1988. Local farmers now grow fruits like grapes in this “green wall”, which also helps their income.
Science and technology play key roles in this fight. The government has used both traditional and modern methods. In Ningxia, workers lay wheat straw (稻草) in checkerboard patterns (棋盘格) to hold sand. This low-cost sand-fixing technology is now used in 13 countries. Satellites and drones (无人机) help monitor plant growth across 176 million hectares of protected land.
More than 200 million people have joined tree-planting activities. Since 2000, China has reduced desert areas by over 2,000 square kilometers yearly—the fastest rate in the world. The “Great Green Wall” project aims to plant 35 billion trees by 2050.
China’s experience brings hope to other countries. These efforts not only improve the environment but also share knowledge globally. China has trained over 2,000 experts (专家) from Africa and the Middle East, showing that deserts can be changed into rich land with determination.
1.According to Paragraph 2, what change has happened to the forest coverage in the Kubuqi Desert since 1988?
2.What do workers in Ningxia do to fix sand?
3.How does China help other countries?
4.What do you think causes the spread of deserts? What can we do to help avoid it in our daily life? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 22
(2025·辽宁鞍山·二模)
Water shortage is a big problem in many parts of the world. In some dry places, not having enough water makes daily life very hard. People there have trouble finding enough water and getting clean water to drink.
One good way to solve this problem is to dig wells (井) . With the help of modern technology, wells can now be dug near people’s homes. Special machines dig deep into the ground to find fresh water. After finding the water, a pump is put in. Then people can easily get water from the well. Having wells nearby is great because people don’t need to walk far to get water, and the water they get is clean and safe to drink.
Collecting rainwater is another useful way. It usually needs many people to work together to build water tanks. Some tanks are built on rooftops, and some are built at schools. These tanks collect and store rainwater. The stored rainwater can be used when there is no rain. At school, these rainwater collection systems are like good teaching tools. Students can learn how to save water and protect the environment by using them.
Reusing water also helps a lot when there is not enough water. Water used for washing clothes or taking showers doesn’t have to be thrown away. Even the water used for washing dishes, which can’t be used for drinking or cooking, can be used again. It can be used to water plants and fruit trees. This helps keep the plants alive and saves water at the same time.
1.What is one advantage of having wells near people’s homes?
2.Why are rainwater collection systems useful at schools?
3.What kind of water can be reused to water plants and fruit trees?
4.Besides digging wells, collecting rainwater, and reusing water, what is one more simple idea you could try to save water? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 23
(2025·辽宁抚顺·一模)
Once, a father and his son went to a kite flying festival. The son was very excited to see all the colorful kites in the sky and asked his father to buy him one. To make him happy, the father went to a nearby shop at the park and bought one.
The son started flying his kite excitedly. Soon it reached high up in the sky. After some time, the son thought to himself, “It seems like the string (绳子) is stopping the kite from flying higher. If I break it, the kite will be free to fly even higher.” So he asked his father for a small knife and cut the string.
Without the string, the kite did go a little bit higher. However, it soon started to come down and landed on a tall tree. The son was sad. He expected that the kite would fly higher after he cut the string, not fall down. He turned to his father for an explanation.
“Well, the string wasn’t holding the kite down; it was actually helping it stay up when the wind was calm and guiding it in the right direction when the wind picked up,” the father explained. “When we cut the string, the kite lost that support (支撑) and fell down. Similarly, in life, we may feel that rules or hard tasks are holding us back, but they are actually guiding us in the right direction. Rules and hard tasks can guide us forward.”
1.Where did the father take the son?
2.What happened after the son cut the string?
3.How did the son feel from the beginning to the end? (At least 2 feelings.)
4.What life lesson did the father teach his son? (Write 30 words or more.)
Passage 24
(2025·辽宁本溪·一模)
Did you know that a lot of pollution in the world comes from inside your home—bricks (砖块)? What if nature could help us make bricks in a cleaner way?
In fact, scientists are working on making bricks out of mushrooms right now. For example, Professor Han Wosten and his team at Utrecht University in the Netherlands are creating mushroom bricks. They mix mushrooms with straw (稻草) and the mushrooms grow on the straw for about two weeks. Then they can be made into different materials. “If we press it, we can get something like hardboard,” Wosten said.
Making mushroom bricks creates much less CO2 than materials like cement (水泥). They are also biodegradable (可生物降解的), so we don’t have to worry about them polluting the land when they are thrown away. Mushroom materials can also fix themselves. If the floor in your house is broken, you can re-grow mushrooms to fix it.
There is still a lot of research to do, though. “It’s very early to say your house will be all made of mushrooms,” said researcher Phil Ayres. Still, progress is being made, and the future of mushroom materials looks bright.
1.What is hardboard made of?
2.Why don’t mushroom bricks pollute the land when they are thrown away?
3.How can we fix a wall made of mushroom bricks?
4.As a teenager, what do you think you can do to help improve the environment? (Write 30 words or more.)
Passage 25
(2025·辽宁本溪·二模)
Most people think that they cannot change the world. Do we have the power to influence other people in our lives? The 1946 US film It’s A Wonderful Life tells us the answer.
In the film, everyone has his or her own guardian angel (守护天使). It starts with George Bailey, a man who has abandoned all his dreams and wants to kill himself on Christmas Eve because he is in financial (财务的) difficulties. This draws the attention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody. George wishes that he had never been born.
Then the angel takes George across space and time to see what his town is like now without him. George sees how different life is for his family and the people in his town! He sees his brother Harry’s grave (坟墓). But in real life, Harry is a war hero now because he saved many people’s lives during World War II. George recalls that one day when he was 12, his brother Harry fell through ice. He jumped into the freezing water and saved Harry. George is very sad. He realizes that he means a lot to his family and his town. So he changes his mind and goes home happily.
In the film, George is very kind-hearted. He gives up many things to help the people in his town. He even helps them achieve their dream of having their own homes. In the end, George’s kindness is repaid when nearly everyone in his town comes together to help him through his troubles. Just as the angel says, “No man is a failure who has friends.”

2.Why does George mean a lot to his brother?
3.Who helps George?
4.What do you think the film teaches you? (Write 30 words or more.)
Passage 26
(2025·辽宁丹东·一模)
Whether you are successful or not depends on your habits. Good habits lead you to success, and bad habits lead you to failure. So it is said that the biggest difference between success and failure comes from different habits.
Good habits are not only necessary but also powerful for success, Truly successful people have many good habits that lead to their success. Bernard Shaw’s insistence (坚持) on the habit of “do what should be done first” made him a famous writer. John Rockefeller has become one of the richest people in the world because of his free working habit.
As students, habits are especially important to you. Obey the school rules. Listen carefully in class and finish the homework on time. Try to solve the difficulties you have in your study. Take an active part in as many meaningful activities as you can. Review and consolidate (巩固) what you have learned in your spare time. If you insist on it for a long time, you will succeed. Instead, if you are lazy, play and do something that has nothing to do with study, or even give up your study, will you succeed?
Ye Shengtao, an educator, once said, “It’s better to have a good habit than to have millions of dollars.” So good habits are the most valuable wealth in your life. No matter in study or in life, you should develop good habits. And they will benefit you all your life, and will accompany (陪伴) you on the final success.
1.What habit helped Bernard Shaw succeed?
2.List two good habits for students according to the text.

(2025·辽宁锦州·二模) Recycling is good for the environment. It can also do good to a community in surprising ways. Brian, a 15-year-old boy, knows this well. In 2020, he started a community recycling program to offer help to the football clubs in his hometown, Wyre. It now has 3,000 participants (参与者).
When Brian was 11, he played football with Fleetwood Town F.C. The club was new and needed money to travel to Premier League. Brian came up with a plan. “There are bottles always thrown around the road,” he said. In Wyre, these can be collected for money. With his father’s help, Brian started a bottle drive. Since then, Brian’s recycling effort has raised 35,000 pounds and helped at least 20 local youth groups. It has also stopped more than 200,000 bottles from littering the roadside and polluting Wyre’s lakes and rivers. “It’s kept our community a lot cleaner,” Brian says.

Passage 31
(2025·辽宁阜新·一模)
If you want to help protect the environment and save the planet, we’ve got some easy ways of going green.
◆Avoid food waste
Go green and know the importance of finishing your meals to avoid food waste. Do your bit to save the planet as well by planning your meals for the week, so you only buy what you need.
◆Use reusable bottles
Earth Day is a great time for you to drink from reusable water bottles when you’re out and about. You should form good water-saving habits around the house, too.
◆Try more plant-based meals
Try to eat less meat. It’s a surprisingly simple way we can all use to help save the planet. Try with one day a week to get you starting, and then spread to more days when possible.
◆Cut down on the air conditioner (空调)
Whenever you can, go green and open the window for some natural air. If you can’t live without your air conditioner, set it at between 25℃ and 27℃ for the most energy-efficient (节能的) temperature.
◆Wise up to (意识到) recycling
You don’t need us to tell you how important it is to reduce, reuse and recycle. Becoming a less “throw away” society is a great message to pass on. Don’t throw away perfectly good things just because you are sick of them, or no longer use them. Instead, give them to others or list them on a free collection site online.
◆Know more about nature
There’s no better way to know about the environment than by getting yourself outdoors and into nature! Whether it’s raining or sunny, you can know about the environment.
1.How many ways of going green are there in the text?
2.According to the writer, what can we do to avoid food waste?

School Clean-Up Day
Last Saturday, April 6th, 2024, all the students in Grade 9 at Sunshine Middle School took part in School Clean-Up Day. The activity was organized by the school’s Environmental Club to protect the environment and teach students the importance of keeping public places clean.
Early in the morning, students gathered at the school gate at 8:30 a.m. They were divided into three groups. Besides, each group was led by a teacher who guided them through the tasks. Group One cleaned the school playground and picked up litter from the grass. They used gloves to pick up paper and bottles, then put them into green trash bags carefully. Group Two cleaned the school library. They saw dirty bookshelves where novels and science books were mixed up. They put them in order by subject. Group Three went to the school garden to plant trees and water flowers. They carefully placed small trees in the holes and covered their roots with soil. When they finished watering the flowers, the garden smelled sweet.
By 12:00 noon, the school looked much cleaner and more beautiful. The students felt proud of their work. “I learned that even small actions can make a big difference,” said Li Hua, a student from Group Two. The Environmental Club plans to hold similar activities every term to encourage more students to join in environmental protection.

(Write 30 words or more)
【答案】1.Three. 2.Britain. 3.To always be nice to others. 4.Yes, it is important for us to learn to love ourselves. When we love ourselves, we are more likely to pursue our dreams and goals, and live a happier and more fulfilling life.

Passage 15
(2025·辽宁大连·二模)

Dear Allan,
My name is Xiaojing.

【答案】1.Because their performance was cut in by a mobile phone ringing in a row close to the stage. 2.The phone owner got up and quickly left the hall. 3.Anton. 4.I agree with Marcel’s reply. Blocking phone reception won’t solve the problem completely because alarms can still go off. Instead, raising awareness of the rules and encouraging people to respect the concert environment is more useful. It’s important to balance the needs of the audience and the respect for the performance. (开放性作答,言之成理即可)
