Although often mistaking dragons for a mythical (神话的) creature, we actually live among several different types of “dragons”. For example, you may have seen dragonflies flying over a summer garden or read about a Komodo dragon lizard. The ocean has its share of dragons, too. The blue dragon is a marine (海洋的) snail without a shell. It is commonly known as a blue sea slug (海蛞蝓). This particular species of marine snail can swallow a bubble of air (which it holds in its stomach) that enables it to float upside down on the surface of the ocean. The underside of the slug is blue, and its back is a gray color. This helps to conceal it from birds flying overhead and from fish swimming below. Blue dragons feed on poisonous jellyfish and other similar species. When food is in short supply, they will eat each other. They collect toxins (毒素) from the jellyfish and store them in many finger-like structures. This ability to store poison gives them a much stronger sting (刺) than the jellyfish itself. They use this poison as a defense against enemies. The sting can also be felt by people. These creatures are rarely visible for study and observation except when they come close to the land during times of onshore winds. They have been seen in Hawaii and in tropical (热带) waters around the world. Beware (当心) of the blue dragon’s sting! 19. What does the underlined word “conceal” in the second paragraph mean? A. Hide. B. Notice. C. Prevent. D. Discover. 20. How does the coloring of the blue sea slug provide protection? A. Its gray coloring makes it look the same as ocean waves. B. It floats right side up so the blue faces down in the water. C. It gives off blue poison into the water to protect it from enemies. D. Its blue underside and its gray back keep it from being seen from outside. 21 What’s the blue dragon’s main defense against enemies? A. It feeds on poisonous jellyfish. B. It floats upside down in the water. C. It stores poison and stings enemies. D. It moves to coastal waters during times of onshore winds. 22. Which of the following facts about the animal is true according to the passage? A. We can only see types of “dragons” in oceans. B. A bubble of water in its stomach enables it to float upside down. C. The creatures are not commonly seen for study and observation. D. The animal has the word “dragon” as part of its name because it is a mythical creature. C I owe (欠) my father a huge thank -you! Sure, I need to thank him for all those years of paying my bills, fixing my bikes, and providing a shoulder to cry on. But this year I realized that his contributions to my childhood were much more than that. I grew up as Daddy’s Little Girl. If I had a problem that needed fixing or a question that needed answering, he was the one I ran to. He helped me get through everything from math homework as a high school student to career choices as a young adult. He always expected that I do my best in whatever I did, and he believed I could succeed in anything I put my mind to. As a result, I learned to hold myself to those same standards. He always showed me unconditional love, which helped me learn to love myself. It was something I,d taken for granted (认为是想当然) until I realized from talking with my friends that they had no similar view of their self worth. Having fathers that didn’t believe in them left them to grow up not believing in themselves. As I was growing up, my father also showed to me how a woman should be lavished. He got along with my mom with love and respect. As a result, I grew to expect nothing less than that from the men I dated and from the man I would finally marry. Dad was a living picture of godliness (虔诚), honesty and responsibility. It was only recently that I realized what a deep influence fathers have on their daughters, lives. That is why I want to thank my dad for the example of love that he has been to me throughout my life. 23. From the second paragraph, the writer thinks it is the most valuable that ________. A. her father was very strict with her B her father helped her a lot in every way C. nothing was difficult if her father was on her side D. Father’s trust deeply influenced her self-confidence 24. The underlined word “lavished” in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by ________? A. loved B. respected C. treated D. calmed 25. Who would the writer turn to when in trouble? A. Her .friends. B. Her mother. C. Her husband. D. Her father. 26. The feeling the writer wants to express to her father in this text is ________. A. grateful B. sad C. proud D. pitiful D Finding a California condor in the wild would be the most unusual treat. perhaps even more unusual than finding a wolf in Yellowstone National Park. In fact, the wolf was what opened my eyes to the fact that humans could bring an animal back to the place where it had disappeared. In 1987, there were only 27 California condors left, none of which were in the wild, only in captive breeding programs, It was those breeding programs that contributed to their population rise, enough that by 1991 some of them could be freed into the wild. Still, the hope of seeing a California condor, which remains an endangered species, is very low, let alone getting a photo of one. California condor population dropped mostly due to human factors, such as poaching and living areas destruction-these are challenges California condors still face today. Although this is just a bird’s-eye view of the challenges California condors face and there are many others, it is part of why the opportunity to work with the US Fish and Wildlife Service team and their partners helping their recovery is so special to me as a photographer. I am not only able to photograph the birds in their wild living areas, but also understand and record how difficult the work is of those people on the front lines of the protection. I am grateful for the work of the team, and my hope is that California condor population will continue to rise allowing future generations an opportunity I never had when I first got here-to look to the sky and see one flying around. 27. What helped the increase of the California condor population in 1987? A. Rules for hunters. B. Captive breeding programs. C. The improved natural environment. D. The enlargement of wild living areas. 28. What does the author say about taking photos of a California condor in the wild? A. It is difficult. B. It is easy. C. It is boring. D. It is dangerous. 29. What did the author do when working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service team? A. He guided ways for them. B. He made records by photos. C. He helped the birds to recover. D. He rebuilt the birds’ living areas. 30. What is the best title for the text? A. New Way, New Hope B. Wolves and California Condors C. A Photo of a California Condor D. The California Condor’s Coming Back Used clothing that you no longer wear can be donated to charities. He usually sat alone and enjoyed that too. With four siblings, he didn’t get much time alone. Sometimes he sat with his younger brother, Lucas, but Lucas was sick at home today. The bus stopped and the tallest boy in his class, Troy, stepped off followed by his younger brother, Jamie. As the bus pulled away, Ethan looked back over his shoulder to watch the boys. Troy was yelling and waving his hands at his little brother. Jamie said something Ethan could not hear. Troy yelled, gave his younger brother a hard shove and knocked him to the ground. Jamie was on the ground wiping at his eyes, but Troy walked away. Ethan turned in his seat, feeling disgusted. He hated seeing little kids get picked on. The sight of Jamie on the ground crying was burned into his memory. He tried to think of something else. He thought of the model car he was working on at home, a 1967 Corvette. He started building it over a week ago and just finished putting it together last night. Tonight, as soon as he finished his homework, he could start painting the car. That was his favorite part. He already had the perfect color of blue picked out. He hurried off the bus, ran through his yard, and breezed through the kitchen with a quick hello to his mom. She was making spaghetti, which smelled delicious. He ran up the stairs two at a time and rushed into his room. “Surprise!” his brother Lucas said, throwing his arms into the air. “What are you doing in my room? I thought you were sick!” “I feel better!” “What’s on your face? Are you bleeding?” “No! I’m not bleeding.” Lucas wiped at his face. “It’s probably just paint. Look! 21. What’s the blue dragon’s main defense against enemies? 【答案】19. A 20. D 21. C 22. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文,介绍了现实中存在的“龙”,涵盖其外形、生存习性、防御方式等信息。 【19题详解】 词句猜测题。根据原文第二段“The underside of the slug is blue, and its back is a gray color. This helps to conceal it from birds flying overhead and from fish swimming below. (这种海蛞蝓的腹部是蓝色,背部是灰色。这有助于它conceal自己,使上方飞行的鸟类和下方游动的鱼类不易发现它)”,结合语境可知conceal意为“隐藏”。故选A项。 【20题详解】 细节理解题。根据原文第二段“The underside of the slug is blue, and its back is a gray color. This helps to conceal it from birds flying overhead and from fish swimming below. (这种海蛞蝓的腹部是蓝色,背部是灰色。这有助于它隐藏自己,使上方飞行的鸟类和下方游动的鱼类不易发现它)”,可知其颜色通过伪装让自身不被外界看见。故选D项。 【21题详解】 细节理解题。根据原文第三段“They collect toxins from the jellyfish and store them in many finger-like structures. This ability to store poison gives them a much stronger sting than the jellyfish itself. They use this poison as a defense against enemies. (它们会从水母身上收集毒素,并将毒素储存在许多指状的身体结构中。这种储存毒素的能力让它们的刺击比水母本身的刺击要厉害得多。它们会利用这种毒素来防御敌人)”,可知蓝龙的防御方式是储存毒素并刺击敌人。故选C项。 【22题详解】 细节理解题。原文第一段提到“For example, you may have seen dragonflies flying over a summer garden or read about a Komodo dragon lizard. (比如,你可能见过蜻蜓在夏日花园上空飞舞,也可能听说过科莫多龙蜥蜴)”,说明“龙”不止存在于海洋,A选项错误;原文第二段提到“This particular species of marine snail can swallow a bubble of air (which it holds in its stomach) that enables it to float upside down on the surface of the ocean. (这种特殊的海洋蜗牛能吞入一个存放在胃里的空气泡,借助这个气泡,它可以在海面颠倒着漂浮)”,是空气泡而非水泡,B选项错误;原文最后一段提到“These creatures are rarely visible for study and observation except when they come close to the land during times of onshore winds. (这类生物极少能被人观察和研究,只有在向岸风出现时,它们靠近岸边的情况下才能被发现)”,说明它们确实不常被观察研究,C选项正确;原文第一段“Although often mistaking dragons for a mythical creature, we actually live among several different types of “dragons”.(虽然我们常常误以为龙是神话生物,但事实上,我们的身边就生活着好几种不同类型的“龙”)”说明“龙”是现实生物,并非神话生物,D选项错误。 故选C项。 C I owe (欠) my father a huge thank -you! It was something I,d taken for granted (认为是想当然的) until I realized from talking with my friends that they had no similar view of their self worth. A. her father was very strict with her B. her father helped her a lot in every way C. nothing was difficult if her father was on her side D. Father’s trust deeply influenced her self-confidence 24. The underlined word “lavished” in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by ________? A. loved B. respected C. treated D. calmed 25. Who would the writer turn to when in trouble? A. Her .friends. B. Her mother. C. Her husband. D. Her father. 26. The feeling the writer wants to express to her father in this text is ________. A. grateful B. sad C. proud D. pitiful 【答案】23. D 24. C 25. D 26. A 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇夹叙夹议文。短文中作者感谢父亲对自己付出的爱,感谢他对自己的性格,品质和人生积极的影响,父亲是作者生命中爱的榜样。 【23题详解】 推理判断题。由第二段“As a result, I learned to hold myself to those same standards. He always showed me unconditional love, which helped me learn to love myself. It was something I,d taken for granted (认为是想当然的) until I realized from talking with my friends that they had no similar view of their self worth. Having fathers that didn’t believe in them left them to grow up not believing in themselves.” 由第三段“ He got along with my mom with love and respect. As a result, I grew to expect nothing less than that from the men I dated and from the man I would finally marry.”可知,他和我妈妈相处得很好,充满爱和尊重。结果,我对我约会的男人和我最终结婚的男人的期望值越来越高。所以在我成长的过程中,我的父亲通过与母亲的关系向我展示了一个女人应该如何被对待。所以才使我对我约会的男人和我最终结婚的男人的期望值越来越高。故判断出第3段下划线的“lavished”一词可改为treated“对待”。故C选项正确。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。由第一段“Sure, I need to thank him for all those years of paying my bills, fixing my bikes, and providing a shoulder to cry on”以及第二段“. If I had a problem that needed fixing or a question that needed answering, he was the one I ran to. He helped me get through everything from math homework as a high school student to career choices as a young adult.”可知,当然,我要感谢他这么多年来为我付账单,修理自行车,给我一个可以哭泣的肩膀。如果我遇到了需要解决的问题或需要回答的问题,我就会去找他。他帮助我完成了从高中数学作业到年轻时的职业选择的所有事情。所以作者有麻烦时向她的父亲寻求帮助。故D选项正确。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。由第一段“I owe (欠) my father a huge thank -you! ”以及最后一段“That is why I want to thank my dad for the example of love that he has been to me throughout my life.”可知,我欠我父亲一个巨大的感谢。这就是为什么我要感谢我的父亲,他是我生命中爱的榜样。所以作者在这篇文章中想要表达给父亲的感情是感激。故A选项正确。 【点睛】由上下文的语境是解决词义猜测题的重要解题方法。划线词的意思往往是我们要猜测的意思。我们可以通过已知的上下文的词汇或者句子来猜测未知的意思。 由第三段“ He got along with my mom with love and respect. As a result, I grew to expect nothing less than that from the men I dated and from the man I would finally marry.”可知,他和我妈妈相处得很好,充满爱和尊重。结果,我对我约会的男人和我最终结婚的男人的期望值越来越高。所以在我成长的过程中,我的父亲通过与母亲的关系向我展示了一个女人应该如何被对待。所以才使我对我约会的男人和我最终结婚的男人的期望值越来越高。故判断出第3段下划线的“lavished”一词可改为treated“对待”。故小题2的选项正确为D选项。 D Finding a California condor in the wild would be the most unusual treat. perhaps even more unusual than finding a wolf in Yellowstone National Park. Wolves and California Condors C A Photo of a California Condor D. The California Condor’s Coming Back 【答案】27. B 28. A 29. B 30. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了圈养繁殖项目促进了加州秃鹰数量的增加,而作者通过与美国鱼类和野生动物管理局合作,从事拍摄秃鹰的工作。 【27题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“In 1987, there were only 27 California condors left, none of which were in the wild, only in captive breeding programs, It was those breeding programs that contributed to their population rise, enough that by 1991 some of them could be freed into the wild.(1987年,只剩下27只加州秃鹰,没有一只是在野外的,只有圈养繁殖项目。正是这些繁殖项目促进了它们的数量增长,到1991年,其中一些秃鹰可以被释放到野外)”可知,圈养繁殖计划促成了1987年加州秃鹰数量的增加。故选B。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Still, the hope of seeing a California condor, which remains an endangered species, is very low, let alone getting a photo of one.(尽管如此,看到加州秃鹰的希望非常渺茫,更不用说给它拍照了)”可知,作者认为在野外拍摄加州秃鹰很难。故选A。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“I am not only able to photograph the birds in their wild living areas, but also understand and record how difficult the work is of those people on the front lines of the protection.(我不仅能够拍摄野生栖息地的鸟类,还能够了解和记录那些在保护第一线的人的工作有多困难)”可知,作者通过照片做记录与美国鱼类和野生动物管理局团队合作。故选B。 【30题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“I am grateful for the work of the team, and my hope is that California condor population will continue to rise allowing future generations an opportunity I never had when I first got here-to look to the sky and see one flying around.(我很感激这个团队的工作,我希望加州秃鹰的数量能继续增加,让后代有机会看到天空中飞来飞去,这是我刚到这里时从未有过的)”结合文章主要介绍了圈养繁殖项目促进了加州秃鹰数量的增加,而作者通过与美国鱼类和野生动物管理局合作,从事拍摄秃鹰的工作。可知,D选项“加州秃鹰回来了”最符合文章标题。故选D。 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Used clothing that you no longer wear can be donated to charities. The ride home gave him some time to relax after a busy day of fifth grade. Look! Look what I did!” He pointed at the desk in the corner of Ethan’s room. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Ethan looked down at his desk in horror. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Ethan took a deep breath and then unfolded his fist. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Ethan looked down at his desk in horror. His Corvette! Lucas had painted it red. An awful dull shade of red! “Why would you do that?” Ethan shouted. “I wanted to surprise you!” Lucas grinned, with his eyes gleaming. Ethan could feel the anger growing, bubbling up inside him, his hands curling into fists. Lucas kept saying something, but so angry was Ethan that he couldn’t even hear a word. “Do you like it? I tried so hard. Look!” asked Lucas. Red paint was smeared across his face, forehead, even hair. Looking at Lucas, Ethan couldn’t help imagining his little brother spending the whole day carefully painting the car. Ethan took a deep breath and then unfolded his fist. Picturing the scene that Jamie sat on the ground wiping at his eyes as his big brother Troy walked away, Ethan stepped toward the table where the car was still drying. Ethan wasn’t sure what to say. He didn’t want to lie, but he didn’t want to hurt his brother’s feelings either. Lucas was only trying to surprise him. He could see that now. “Do you? Do you like it?” Lucas insisted. “Every time I look at this car, I’m going to think of you,” Ethan responded, a smile stretching across his face. And that was the truth. “Now, we’d better get that paint off your face before dinner.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①叫喊:shout/yell/scream ②向……走去:step toward/walk over to/approach ③回想起:picture/recall 情绪类 ①愤怒:anger/rage ②给某人惊喜:surprise sb/give sb a surprise 【点睛】【高分句型1】Lucas kept saying something, but so angry was Ethan that he couldn’t even hear a word.(运用了固定句型“so...that”以及“so+adj”置于句首引起的部分倒装) 【高分句型2】Ethan responded, a smile stretching across his face.
