Here are some wonderful festivals around the world that happen in spring. If you want to know more about them, please click here or visit http://www.buddhanet.net/festival.htm
Songkran — Thailand
Dates: 13th — 15th, April
In Thailand, people celebrate a festival called Songkran, when people head out to the streets with water guns to spray (喷洒) everyone who walks past. It’s a very important traditional celebration in the country.
Naghol — Vanuatu
Dates: Every Saturday from April to May
Every year, villagers come together to celebrate the harvest of yams (甘薯), an important part in the people’s diet in Vanuatu. The festival is most famous for its “land diving (潜水) ceremony”. During the ceremony men and boys dive to the ground from high wooden towers with only two thin vines (藤) tied to their feet.
Cherry Blossom Viewing — Japan
Dates: The cherry blossom season is different from year to year depending on the weather.
The festival is well-known. The Japanese celebrate the days when the flowers finally blossom. Only a few days later, the petals (花瓣) fall to the ground, like pink snowflakes. That means the traditional festival only lasts for several days. In Japan, almost everyone has picnics in the parks to view the flowers.
Sinhalese New Year — Sri Lanka

Last summer, I was lucky enough to be part of an international student exchange program. I was sent to a small town in India for two weeks. Little did I know that this short stay would open my eyes to a world of diverse cultures and leave me with memories that would last a lifetime.
The town was preparing for a famous local festival called Holi when I arrived. People were busy buying colored powders, preparing traditional sweets, and decorating the streets. Holi is a festival of colors, joy, and love. It celebrates the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil.
On the day of the festival, I woke up early to the sound of music and laughter. When I stepped outside, the whole town seemed to be in a frenzy of celebration. People of all ages were running around, throwing colored powders at each other. At first, I was a bit hesitant to join in, as I wasn’t familiar with the customs. But a kind-hearted local girl named Priya came up to me, took my hand, and pulled me into the crowd. She taught me how to play Holi safely and explained the meaning behind every tradition.
As the day went on, I found myself covered from head to toe in bright colors. I was laughing and playing with people I had just met, forgetting all about the cultural differences that initially made me feel nervous. We shared stories about our countries, our families, and our dreams. I learned about Indian history, their unique art forms, and their deep-rooted values. In return, I told them about my hometown, the festivals we celebrate, and the food we love.
One of the most memorable moments was when we all sat together in the evening, sharing traditional Indian food. The spices, the flavors, and the way the food was prepared were so different from what I was used to, but I loved every bite of it. Through this experience, I realized that cultural differences are not barriers but bridges that connect us. They make the world a more interesting and beautiful place. When I left India, I carried with me not only colorful memories but also a newfound appreciation for the diversity of cultures around the world.
24.Why was the author sent to India?
A.To celebrate Holi with family. B.To study Indian history.
C.To learn Indian art forms. D.To take part in an exchange program.
25.What can we infer from the passage?
A.The author didn’t enjoy the Indian food.
B.Holi is only celebrated by young people in India.
C.The author was afraid of the local people at first.
D.The author’s attitude towards cultural differences changed after the experience.
26.The underlined word “frenzy” in Paragraph 3 probably means ______
A.calm state B.wild excitement C.low movement D.quiet atmosphere
27.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.To introduce the festival of Holi in India.
B.To show the author’s love for Indian art forms.
C.To describe the traditional Indian food.
D.To tell the story of the author’s experience in India and the understanding of cultural diversity.

The topic of this year’s Earth Day is Planet vs. Plastics, and the aim is to focus on the harm that plastics cause to the environment, because it takes hundreds of years to break down for plastics. The Earth Day movement is demanding a 60% reduction in the amount of plastics that humans use by 2040. This includes ending the production of single-use plastics completely by 2030. The movement also wants governments to help end fast fashion, which refers to cheap clothes that are quickly produced by large companies. Many of these items, which often end up in rubbish sites, contain plastics.
Schools and some social groups across the world take an active part in Earth Day events. Students from primary schools, for example, will pick up rubbish in their neighborhoods. Some libraries in parts of the world run events designed to let people get creative and voice their opinions on the environment.
The Earth Day website lists activities arranged around the world, and an increasing number of people are registering their own Earth Day events. If you want to be part of it, search for “Earth Day Creative Events”.

In a world that often feels like a never-ending race, celebrating gives your mind and body a much-needed break and has real health benefits. Here’s how celebrations can make your life healthier and happier. 36
Celebrations bring people together. They create moments of shared joy and a sense of belonging that strengthens close connections. Having a dependable network of people in your corner doesn’t just feel good. It reduces stress and keeps people healthy in body and mind. 37 . And a little joy goes a long way in building a stronger, healthier, and more connected life.
Celebrating helps you feel motivated
You might not think partying helps you get things done. But, as it turns out, taking the time to celebrate does actually increase your motivation to achieve your goals. Acknowledging your wins, even small ones, causes the brain to produce dopamine (多巴胺), which makes you want to repeat that same behavior. Set small goals and celebrate them along the way. 38
Celebrating improves confidence
Celebrating your wins-big or small-does more than just make you feel good in the moment. 39 . It gives you a sense of personal value and ability. Taking time to reflect on those moments reminds you of your strength and determination. It’s like saying to yourself “Look what I’ve done” and “I can do even more”. Each win becomes a stepping stone toward the next big goal.
Celebrating spreads positivity
40 . When you gather people to laugh, dance, and share love, you create something bigger than the event itself. It’s a reminder to let go of worries, even if only for a little while. This kind of joy can be spread. When you celebrate, you’re not just lifting your own spirits—you’re inspiring others to feel lighter, happier, and more connected.
A.Celebrating helps build connections
B.You’ll be upset if you can’t do those
C.Celebrating helps bring you happiness
D.It’s a powerful way to make you confident
E.Each gathering helps strengthen relationships
F.Celebrations create the energy of joy and positivity

They were talking about the coming Father’s Day, “Belle, do you know when Father’s Day is celebrated?” Fred asked his sister Belle. “Yes, it is going to be celebrated on June 16 this year. Yesterday my friend and I were talking about it,” Belle replied. “Do you have any idea about how we should celebrate this day and make it memorable for Dad?” Fred asked. “Hmm... I was thinking about it too and have some ideas,” Belle answered excitedly.
“What are you kids talking about?” their mum asked, entering their room. “Mum, we are wondering about how to celebrate Father’s Day,” Belle said. “Oh, I am surprised you kids can remember the day! Well, I am thinking of cooking some favorite dishes for your father. You both should think of ways to decorate the house beautifully,” Mum said.
“That would be great!” said Belle and Fred together. Both of them got up smiling, thinking of hundreds of ways to celebrate Father’s Day. Mum went to the kitchen, and Belle and Fred started doing their homework. But soon Fred noticed Belle deep in thought so he asked what the matter was. “Fred, I am thinking that our parents do everything for us but they demand nothing from us. Isn’t it bad that we never think about them and are always concerned about our needs?” Belle replied. “Sometimes we are so busy with our lives that we don’t pay proper attention to our parents. We should listen to whatever they say properly and answer them. We must also study hard to get good grades,” Fred said.
The next day, all three of them, Belle, Fred and their mum, got busy preparing their surprise celebration for Father’s Day. They were about to practice singing the poem when the delicious smell came from the kitchen. Surely, it was Mom that prepared the big meal. French toast and chicken porridge, both of which were father’s favorite foods, were ready. Eventually, everything was settled. Fred and Belle stood beside the door, waiting for their father eagerly. Then Dad came in.
Fred and Belle were very excited to see their father. They cried out together, “Happy Father’s Day!” Hearing the words, so glad was Dad that his face lit up. “We have a surprise for you!” added Fred, pointing at the decorations. When he saw the dinner, his eyes widened and twinkled with excitement. He couldn’t help tasting a bit of the chicken soup, explaining that it was the best dish he had ever had. Mom smiled heartily and exchanged a gentle glance with Fred and Belle. What a beautiful and sweet surprise! The room was filled with happiness.

Dates: 13th or 14th, April
Just like in many other countries in South East Asia, this is the time when people celebrate the traditional New Year, an ancient celebration which marks the end of the harvest season and is one of two times of the year when the sun is straight above Sri Lanka. There are a lot of delicious foods during the celebration.

Belle drew a family picture with her crayons (蜡笔), Fred bought balloons and candles and began writing a poem which he planned to sing that day. Dear Mr. Anderson,
Knowing you will arrange for the exchange students to experience a Chinese traditional festival, I intend to introduce my plan to you.
Firstly, the plan is about the Mid-Autumn Festival. However busy we are, it is typical to enjoy mooncakes together. Secondly, it is a good idea to teach the exchange students how to make the mooncakes during the festival in the school hall. After that, we can hold a lecture about this festival. Lastly, I believe that the activity will be meaningful because it enables the exchange students to learn about the culture of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
I hope you can adopt my plan.
Yours

第二节 (满分25分)
Fred and Belle were both expecting the special day. Finally, when Father’s day came, both Fred and Belle came home from school quickly and started decorating the house. Fred cleaned the living room and continued with the decoration, putting up the colorful balloons and presenting the birthday cake. At the same time, Belle took out the family picture.

26.The underlined word “frenzy” in Paragraph 3 probably means ______
A.calm state B.wild excitement C.low movement D.quiet atmosphere
27.What is the main idea of the passage?

Each win becomes a stepping stone toward the next big goal.
Celebrating spreads positivity
40 . When you gather people to laugh, dance, and share love, you create something bigger than the event itself. It’s a reminder to let go of worries, even if only for a little while.
