Having worked for more than a decade in finance in the oil industry in Canada, Tori Fahey found herself wanting more from life. But it wasn't through desperation that her circumstances changed: “I didn't get fed up and storm off, nothing like that; it was curiosity about other interests and wanting to experience something new.”
Fahey left her job and completed an MBA before setting up her departure to New York to begin a degree. However, the opportunity for an open year between the MBA and the degree came up, and as a keen touring cyclist, Fahey realized that a dreamedabout adventure was now becoming a possibility: “The ride in Africa had been on my fantasy list. It was a moment when I realized that I could do anything, so I should.”
Fahey rode across Africa, and it was a 7,500mile trip that took four months. The whole experience had a lifechanging impact. Fahey said,“Bicycles provide a literal freedom. You don't allow yourself to feel like that in everyday life because there are so many distractions. But when you're out on the bike and there's nothing else, you're really free to experience what life is.”
After gaining the degree, Fahey worked on projects with the UNDP(United Nations Development Programme) in Montenegro with the aim of bringing investment to rural communities.
It was while she was working on these projects that the seeds of the next new investment were sown. “It was through my trip across Africa that I discovered pannier and rack systems inconvenient and I was never going to use them again.” Little did she know this would lead her to start up her own company.
In 2013, Apidura was born, producing storage solutions for people looking to travel the world by bike, race across continents and carry all they need to do so. It's now a successful global brand, but Fahey remains reflective, curious about what else the company can do for people.
4.Why did Fahey leave her job in Canada?
A.She was bored with the job.
B.She was disappointed with life.
C.She wanted to add new dimensions to her life.
D.She found it hard to adjust to the circumstances.
I didn't get fed up可知,A项“她厌倦了工作”和B项“她对生活感到失望”错误;D项“她发现很难适应环境”原文未提及。
5.Which can best describe Fahey's ride experience in Africa?
A.Demanding. B.Liberating.
C.Eventful. D.Dangerous.
根据第三段中的“Bicycles provide a literal freedom...you're really free to experience what life is.”
6.Why did Fahey launch Apidura?
A.To encourage bicycle traveling.
B.To make her investment profitable.
C.To help cyclists carry traveling stuff.
D.To increase the pleasure of riding bikes.
根据最后一段第一句“In 2013, Apidura was born, producing storage solutions for people looking to travel the world by bike, race across continents and carry all they need to do so.”
7.What is the passage mainly about?
A.A tough path to fame.
B.An adventure across Africa.
C.The benefits of green traveling.
D.The story behind the birth of Apidura.

Driving in Canada is similar to driving in many parts of the United States. Distances and speeds, however, are posted in kilometers per hour and some signs, particularly in Quebec, may only be in French.
Unless otherwise posted, the maximum (最大限度的) speed limit in Canada is 50km/hr in cities and 80km/hr on highways. On rural highways, the posted speed limit may be 100km/hr. It is illegal to take automobile radar detectors (汽车雷达检测器) into Quebec, Manitoba, and the Yukon. Seat belt use is required by law for all passengers, and child car seats must be used by children under 40 pounds. Some provinces require drivers to keep their vehicles' headlights on during the day and some have banned (禁止) driving while using a handheld cell phone. Motorcycles cannot share a lane (车道), and safety helmets for motorcycle riders and passengers are necessary.
Highway 401, from Detroit to Montreal, is one of the busiest highways in North America. It has been the scene of many deadly traffic accidents due to sudden and severe weather changes, high rates of speed, and heavy truck traffic. Thus drivers should be alert while travelling here.
Please refer to our Road Safety page for more information. Also, we suggest that you visit the website of Canada's national authority responsible for road safety.

根据第二段中的第一行和第二行“Unless otherwise posted, the maximum (最大限度的)speed limit in Canada is 50km/hr in cities...”
9.The underlined word “alert” in Paragraph 3 could best be replaced by .
A.careful B.relaxed

(2024·新课标Ⅱ卷)Given the astonishing potential of AI to transform our lives,we all need to take action to deal with our AIpowered future, and this is where AI by Design:A Plan for Living with Artificial Intelligence comes in.This absorbing new book by Catriona Campbell is a practical roadmap addressing the challenges posed by the forthcoming AI revolution(变革).
In the wrong hands, such a book could prove as complicated to process as the computer code(代码)that powers AI but, thankfully,Campbell has more than two decades' professional experience translating the heady into the understandable. She writes from the practical angle of a business person rather than as an academic, making for a guide which is highly accessible and informative and which,by the close, will make you feel almost as smart as AI.
As we soon come to learn from AI by Design,AI is already supersmart and will become more capable, moving from the current generation of“narrowAI”to Artificial General Intelligence. From there,Campbell says, will come Artificial Dominant Intelligence. This is why Campbell has set out to raise awareness of AI and its future now —several decades before these developments are expected to take place. She says it is essential that we keep control of artificial intelligence,or risk being sidelined and perhaps even worse.
Campbell's point is to wake up those responsible for AI—the technology companies and world leaders—so they are on the same page as all the experts currently developing it.She explains we are at a “tipping point” in history and must act now to prevent an extinctionlevel event for humanity. We need to consider how we want our future with AI to pan out.Such structured thinking, followed by global regulation, will enable us to achieve greatness rather than our downfall.
AI will affect us all,and if you only read one book on the subject, this is it.

I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September.I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference.Due to a big storm,my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half.I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane,I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought.
That was when I met Gunter.I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station.I thought my pronunciation was the problem,so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up,Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century,Gunter put his phone down and started the car.
Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station.Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus.Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face.“We made it,”he said.
Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet.I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along.A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.
At this moment,Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There,at the entrance, was a cash machine.I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in,only to read the message:“Out of order.Sorry.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news.
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna,I called Gunter as promised.

I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. The cash machine was also out of order! In other words,I couldn't pay him now.I felt so depressed and sorry[心理描写,沮丧且抱歉],an embarrassed smile creeping onto(逐渐浮现) my face(独立主格结构)[表情描写,体现尴尬处境].Then an idea occurred to me.I pointed at [手部动作描写] my phone and asked him to give his phone number to me so that I could contact him when I came back here(目的状语从句,其中 when 引导时间状语从句).Surprisingly,he comforted me that everything was OK since he had known how anxious I was(that引导宾语从句,其中 since 引导原因状语从句,how 引导宾语从句).After we said goodbye to each other,I rushed to[肢体动作描写] the queue.Fortunately,I didn't miss the whole arrangements for the conference.
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna,I called Gunter as promised. He didn't recognise me immediately when I said hello to him. So I explained my intention. At first,he refused to charge me the fare. But I insisted I owe him the money(宾语从句+虚拟语气).Therefore,we made a deal to meet at the bus station. When we met,I extended my gratitude for his trust in me,gave him the fare and tipped (给小费)him another sum of money[表达感激的心理以及付钱的动作链].Satisfied,he gave me a thumbsup, praised me a lot for my honesty and also thanked me for the tip[司机收到报酬后的反应动作链],but I told him that he deserved it(that 引导宾语从句).Till now, every time I recall this experience(every time 引导时间状语从句),I can't help wondering(不禁琢磨) if there is more trust and honesty in the world, how charming our world will be(how 引导宾语从句,其中if 引导条件状语从句).
