Dear Diary,
Time flies! The first term of Grade 9 has nearly come to an end. Looking back, I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved.
This term, I had difficulties in physics and chemistry. But I didn’t give up. I bravely asked teachers for advice and discussed with classmates. Thanks to their help, I found effective learning methods and made great progress. I am always grateful to your teachers and classmates for their patience.
For the next term, I have got a plan. I am ready to study even harder, preview lessons regularly, and read more books to gain better grades for the senior high school entrance examination. Also, I will do more exercise to keep myself more energetic and healthier. I will try my best to balance my hobbies and schoolwork better.
I believe that I will have another wonderful term and successfully enter my dream high school.

Yan, known as the “rocket boy”, is a fourth-grade student at a primary school in Zhejiang Province. He has been interested in space science since he was just four. He even gave his classmates a lesson on astronomy (天文学) at an opening ceremony (典礼).
During the summer break in 2022, Yan noticed a mistake in an educational video at a planetarium (天文馆) in Lhasa, Xizang. A rocket was wrongly named in the video. The planetarium corrected the mistake and thanked Yan for pointing it out.
Inspired (赋予灵感) by this experience, Yan decided to build his own rocket. From August 2022 to June 2023, he spent 10 months creating his first rocket. “But that rocket only traveled 200 meters and then started to fall. It didn’t open its parachute (降落伞) at the highest point,” Yan recalled (回忆起). However, he didn’t give up. He decided to learn from his mistakes. With support from his father, he started to build his second rocket in October of that year.

C(24-25九年级上·江苏南京·期末)
Artwork is lovely to look at, and it has the power to make people feel and think differently. But do you know that when people see a real work of art, rather than just looking at a photo of it, they are likely to experience stronger emotions (情绪)?
Scientists recently carried out a study at the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague, a city in the Netherlands. The museum is home to Girl with a Pearl Earring, a very famous painting by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer. It was painted in 1665.
① The researchers used eye-tracking equipment and a brain scanner to watch how people reacted to several paintings. First, the volunteers were asked to look at the real paintings on display, and then at photos of the artworks in the museum shop.
② It was shown that their emotional reactions (反应) were 10 times stronger when they looked at the real paintings. The most active part of the brain while looking at the artworks was the area that controls people’s personal identity (身份) and consciousness (意识).
③ How did that happen? By study, people may experience something called a “sustained attentional loop” when they watched a certain painting. The volunteers’ attention was first drawn to the girl’s left eye, then her mouth, then to her pearl earring. This certain order of eye movements repeated in a continuous loop. Each time they completed the cycle, their focus became stronger and their connection with Girl with a Pearl Earring was deeper, which meant that people stared at the painting for longer. Martin de Munnik, one of the researchers in this study, said, “That means you have to pay attention whether you want to or not.” It was as if the painting itself had a power to hold the viewers’ attention and guide their eye movement in a very involuntary (无意识的) way.
④ The director of the Mauritshuis, Martine Gosselink, said that the study shows how important it is to go and see art in real life, whether it’s paintings, photography or dancing. She added, “it really helps develop your brain.” The researchers are now eager to broaden their study, planning to visit other museums and do similar experiments on works like the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.
26.What is the purpose of the study?
A.To explain different ways to study a painting.
B.To check people’s interest in museum paintings.
C.To find differences between a painting and its photo.
D.To watch people’s reactions to real art and its photos.
27.We can put the following sentence “The team also found that the group reacted even more strongly to Girl with a Pearl Earring.” in ______.
A.① B.② C.③ D.④
28.How does the writer introduce the “sustained attentional loop”?
A.By giving an example. B.By telling a story.
C.By listing numbers. D.By offering advice.
29.Why was Mona Lisa mentioned at the end of the passage?
A.To introduce a world-famous art work. B.To explain the plan for further research.
C.To show the researchers’love for it. D.To prove its influence on people’s brain.
30.What is the best title of the passage?
A.The Power of Real Works of Art B.Lessons from Real Works of Art
C.The Way to Enjoy Real Works of Art D.A Visit to Real Works of Art
26.D 27.C 28.A 29.B 30.A
根据“The researchers used eye-tracking equipment and a brain scanner to watch how people reacted to several paintings. First, the volunteers were asked to look at the real paintings on display, and then at photos of the artworks in the museum shop.”
根据“The volunteers’ attention was first drawn to the girl’s left eye, then her mouth, then to her pearl earring. This certain order of eye movements repeated in a continuous loop.” 故选A。
根据“The researchers are now eager to broaden their study, planning to visit other museums and do similar experiments on works like the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.”
根据“when people see a real work of art, rather than just looking at a photo of it, they are likely to experience stronger emotions” ,后文围绕此论述人们对真迹和照片的不同反应,突出真实艺术品能带来更强烈情绪,强调了真实艺术品的力量,所以A选项“真实艺术品的力量”最能概括文章主旨。故选A。
D
(24-25九年级上·江苏盐城·期末)Teenagers need eight to ten hours of sleep per night. However, changes to the body’s sleep cycle make it difficult for teens to fall asleep early. Many cannot fall asleep until 10:30 p. m. or even later and most of them will feel sleepy if they have to get up too early.
Scientists recommend that both middle and high schools begin no earlier than 8:30 a. m. 31 Here are some other advantages of later school start times:
32
When running late in the mornings, students are likely to go without breakfast. With an empty stomach, one finds it difficult to focus (集中) in class. When they are always in a hurry, students may form unhealthy eating habits.
With extra time before going to school, students can eat a well-balanced breakfast and focus more on learning.
Fewer behavioral problems
Teens experience mood changes as a common result of this special period of life. 33 When they get enough sleep, students are calm and peaceful and their moods do not change suddenly. They’re less likely to feel worried, unhappy or get angry. For parents, children with more sleep are easier to live with.
Better performance (表现) in study
Sleep loss hurts attention, memory and brain development. Students with less sleep have difficulty paying attention in class and are likely to have lower grades. 34 They are also less likely to fall asleep in class and more able to understand what they learn.
35 It improves their chances of eating, behaving and performing better.
A.More time to sleep.
B.More time for a healthy breakfast.
C.Less sleep may cause worries, stress and unhappiness.
D.Later school start times support the natural needs of teenagers.
E.In conclusion, starting school later helps students get a better night’s sleep.

Chart I
One of the records from Tina:
Tina wrote her changes in her diary:
Day 1“I’m so worried about my exam.”
I didn’t do well in the exam again. Um... Does that mean I’m stupid? Would my parents or teacher get mad at me?
Day 2“I’m not good at making friends.”
My deskmate Lucy is popular with my classmates. Why? I’m not bad. However, they seem unwilling to make friends with me. Should I ask my deskmate for advice?
Day 5“I want to ask for help.”
Surprisingly, Lucy gave me a lot of advice on how to get along well with others. And she encouraged me to be myself.
Day 15“Now I have changed a lot.”

(24-25九年级上·江苏徐州·期末)Once again, my experiment failed. I felt 51 (hope). A few months earlier, when I started the project, I was confident. “I 52 (succeed) if I work hard enough.” I thought. I spent long hours in the lab. When the experiment failed for the first time, I 53 (simple) worked harder. But now…
One evening, Mr Bright noticed my sad looks. He came over 54 asked how I was going. “I 55 (try) thousands of times so far, but…” I told him about my problems.
“I think it’s time for you 56 (go) home and get some sleep. Taking a break is also hard work, you know. We need to work smarter, not harder,” he said 57 a smile.
What 58 excellent idea! I no longer made 59 (I) work too hard in the lab. Instead, I picked up some of my 60 (hobby), like boating and jogging. I felt less stressed and started to make progress.
51. hopeless 52.will succeed 53.simply 54.and 55.have tried
56.to go 57.with 58.an 59.myself 60.hobbies
故填will succeed。
came over和asked是并列关系,所以用并列连词and连接。故填and。
根据时间状语so far可知,此处用现在完成时,结构为have/has+过去分词,主语是I,助动词用have,try的过去分词是tried。故填have tried。
分析句子结构可知,本句句型“It’s time for sb. to do sth.”,因此这里填“go”的动词不定式“to go”。故填to go。
根据“said...a smile”可知,应是笑着说,表伴随,用with。故填with。
故填an。

Hi, I’m Linda, a teen writer of the Just Ask column in an English-language newspaper. I help solve teen readers’ problems. Go ahead and ask away!
Dear Linda,My mom always says I’m on my phone too much, but she’s always on hers, too. Every time I mention it to her, she doesn’t listen and always says I’m just a kid, not an adult. It really makes me angry. What should I do?
David
Dear Linda,I find out that my classmates often stay up late to do extra exercise to improve their study. I once did the same, but it made me sleepy the next day and I couldn’t behave well in class. However, if I stop doing so, I will feel like I’m falling behind. What should I do?

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Yours,
Linda
Possible version 1:
Dear David,
I understand your feelings. But I think you should use your phone less. Because spending too much time on your phone is bad for your eyes. Your mom is worried about your phone usage because she loves you and wants to protect you.
Besides, why not sit down and talk with your mom? It can help her understand how you feel without feeling angry.
Finally, try to do something meaningful with your parents, such as doing sports, reading books or watching movies. I’m sure it will make your family healthier and happier.
Yours,
Linda
Possible version 2:
Dear Sarah,
I don’t think what your classmates are doing is right. You shouldn’t stay up too late at night. It’s important for us to get enough sleep. If you stay up too late, you will be too tired in class and fall behind others. So, study in the way that works for you, making sure to have a balance between rest and work.
In my opinion, using your time well is always better than working too hard. You can listen to your teachers carefully in class. This way, you will behave well in your study.
Yours,
Linda

D
