Share One of My Bad Experiences
Experiencing bad days isn’t terrible, for it teaches us something important.
I learned this from failing an important English exam last year. I had prepared a lot, so I felt very upset when I saw my low score.
For some time, I lost confidence. But my teacher noticed and talked with me. She helped me see that my study method was not effective.
From this, I learned valuable lessons. It’s normal to feel sad after failure. More importantly, asking for help is wise. This experience taught me not to give up easily. A failure is not the end; it’s a chance to learn and improve. Now I study smarter and feel stronger.

Imagine you could only feel good emotions (情感) like happiness, excitement, and peace. That might sound perfect, but it’s not realistic (现实的). Life is full of the unexpected. Everyone experiences all kinds of feelings, even the ones that are uncomfortable, like anger, fear, and sadness. It’s important to accept these feelings because they can actually help you feel better in the long run.
Notice uncomfortable feelings
When you understand that negative (消极的) emotions are normal and won’t last forever, it’s easier to deal with them. According to experts, people who let themselves feel all their emotions are often more at peace than those who try to avoid or ignore (忽视) them. By noticing these uncomfortable feelings and letting them be, you’re being kind to yourself.
▲
Allowing yourself to feel uncomfortable emotions doesn’t mean you can throw things around or behave unkindly. Anita Garai, the writer of Being With Our Feelings, says that when we allow ourselves to feel emotions like anger, we’re less likely to lose control and do something we regret. “Uncomfortable feelings actually help us keep healthy,” she explains. By listening to these feelings, you can learn more about what you need and find out the best way to deal with them.
Learn to accept bad feelings
Garai suggests starting by finding out where the bad feeling is from. Ask yourself, “When and where do I feel it?” By paying attention to the feeling this way, it’s less likely that you’ll ignore it. Another helpful tip is to read stories about characters who face and overcome uncomfortable emotions.
26.Normally people love good emotions like ________.
A.anger B.fear C.happiness D.sadness
27.What do experts say about feeling all your emotions?
A.It can bring you peace. B.It causes more sadness.
C.It makes you angry all the time. D.It helps you avoid bad feelings.
28.What can be put into the “ ▲ ”?
A.Ask someone for advice B.Find a quiet place to relax
C.Imagine something happy D.Stay away from bad behavior
29.Why does Garai suggest reading stories?
A.Because it helps us avoid bad feelings. B.Because it makes us feel happy all the time.
C.Because it helps us forget our own problems. D.Because it helps us learn from others’ experiences.
30.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Trying to be kind to yourself B.Accepting uncomfortable emotions
C.Experiencing changes in your life D.Learning more about what you need
D
As you know, homework is a big part of going to school. Some students can’t deal with it well. 31
Make a homework plan.
Most middle school students have one or two hours of homework at night. 32 It is a good idea to come up with some kind of homework schedule (进度表) especially if you are going to do sports or other activities after school.
33
A bedroom, study or any room where you can get away from noise is good for you to do your homework. But don’t study on your comfortable bed, or you might fall asleep there.
Take a break.
Most people’s attention doesn’t last very long, so take some breaks while doing your homework. Sitting for too long without relaxing will make you less productive than if you stop to take a break regularly. 34
Get help when you need it.
Sometimes even though you are listening carefully in class, some subjects seem too hard. 35 He or she may be able to work with you before or after school and explain things more clearly. Your classmates may also be able to give you a hand. However, this might not give you the results you want. Lots of people understand something well but are not able to explain it.
A.Watch where you work.
B.Check your homework often.
C.The first person to ask for help is your teacher.
D.Here are some tips for you to make homework easy.
E.Taking a 15-minute break every hour is a good way for most students.

After your graduation from junior high school, you have something important to think about—a plan for your personal growth. Here is some advice for you.
Study yourself. Understand what you like, what you value and what you want to be. In studying yourself, you can check your strong points and weak points. Find out what you need to prepare for your dream job.
Write down your plan. When writing, you can try using mind maps (思维导图). It is a good way to help you to think more clearly. And you may find a proper way to work your plan out.
Go over your plan with your teachers, parents or friends. They may give you some advice. Think carefully about their advice and make some changes to your plan if necessary. And then you can go on with it.
Work hard to achieve your goal. For example, if you want to be an English teacher in the future, you should spend more time reading English books, learning more about English culture and practicing your listening and speaking. You can make your dream come true only through hard work.
You may find it difficult to make the plan now. Don’t worry. All you need is just a rough (粗略的) one. Once you enter the senior high school, you’ll get a chance to make it better with the help of your teachers. And your personal growth plan may change with your age, your interests and the social development. So take your time and I believe you will grow into an excellent young man.

On the way home, he felt like there was a heavy weight on his shoulders. He was both angry and upset. “I can’t believe I didn’t make the team,” he shouted. “How did Alex make the team? He can’t keep up with a tortoise. Why is Jimmy a better choice than me? He just stands around moving his arms.” “Peter” his mother said, cutting him off, “why don’t you just stop and think? Maybe you need a little more practice. Besides, winning or losing is only half the tryouts. The other half is learning from your mistakes.”
Peter didn’t speak anymore, but he thought about what his mother said carefully. Then he knew she was right. It was nobody’s fault but his own. He decided to work harder for the team over the next year.

【答案】
