As one of the most famous landscape photographers of all time, Ansel Adams has inspired generations of photography lovers. This includes Nick Micheels, who transformed his love for Adams’ work into an incredible idea for a LEGO set. Micheels spent one month designing the 1,100-piece set, which he then posted to the LEGO Ideas website. Called “The Landscape Photographer”, Micheels’ idea was selected as a Staff Pick and is nearing the 10,000 votes.
Like many of us, Micheels enjoyed playing with LEGOs during childhood, but felt he’d grown out of the hobby. However, during the pandemic (流行病), he rediscovered his passion and started designing LEGO sets, which he posts on LEGO Ideas under the name Lobster Thermidor.
Micheels himself is a photographer and has admired Adams’ work since he was a child. So, it only seemed natural to translate his love for the American photographers’ works into a LEGO set.
This set includes Adams’ famous large 8×10 camera, which can be placed on top of a LEGO touring car — just as Adams did to get the best view for his photos. It also has LEGO versions of yellow monkeyflowers and a ponderosa pine tree, recreating the nature Adams loved. The choice of leaves is no accident either. Micheels selected plants native to the photographer’s beloved Yosemite National Park.
For Micheels, the most challenging part of creating the LEGO set was recreating Adams’ camera on a small scale (尺寸). In a similar fashion, Micheels went through several designs before arriving at the final version. He explained, “I really wanted to get as many details right as I could. I even made a second lens so you can change lenses if necessary.”
With over 8,500 votes on LEGO Ideas, “The Landscape Photographer” is on track to hit 10,000 supporters. Once that happens, the official LEGO team will take a look at the design in order to determine if it’s suitable for production. For Micheels, it would be a dream to see his design on the shelves and to have the chance to build it with his kids.
24.What inspired Micheels to create the LEGO set “The Landscape Photographer”?
A.The rediscovery of his enthusiasm for designing.
B.His childhood memories of playing with LEGOs.
C.His desire to win votes on the LEGO Ideas website.
D.The admiration for Ansel Adams’ landscape photography.
25.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Micheels’ efforts to present the scene Adams valued.
B.The impact of the local environment on Micheels’ design.
C.Adams’ philosophy behind photography in his lifetime.
D.The unique features of Adams’ photography style.
26.What does the addition of a second lens to the LEGO camera primarily reflect?
A.A move to show off his skills.
B.A way to handle a complicated design.
C.A commitment to achieving perfection.
D.A solution to the technical limitations.
27.What can be inferred about the future of “The Landscape Photographer” LEGO set?
A.It might generate significant profits through mass sales.
B.It may become an official product with enough backing.
C.It could help Micheels to pursue a LEGO design career.
D.It is likely to become a best-seller in the LEGO collection.

Recent research has revealed the crucial role of early human groups who settled in northern Arabia soon after the intensely dry period known as the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). These communities followed the return of seasonal water sources and left behind an extraordinary record of their presence through giant rock art.
Researchers on the Green Arabia project documented over 60 of Jebel Mleiha and the Jebel Arnaan panels featuring 176 individual engravings (雕刻品) across three previously unexplored locations. The engravings, which depict animals such as camels, gazelles, and aurochs, include 130 highly detailed and life-sized figures, some reaching up to 3 meters long and more than 2 meters tall.
Dating to between 12,800 and 11,400 years ago, the engravings correspond to a time when temporary lakes and rivers reappeared after centuries of extreme drought. Analysis confirmed the existence of these ancient water sources, which could have provided essential support for human groups entering the desert and allowed them to survive in this challenging environment.
“These large engravings are not just rock art — they were probably statements of presence, access, and cultural identity,” said lead author, Dr. Maria Guagnin from Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology. “The rock art marks water sources and movement routes, possibly symbolizing territorial rights and international memory.”
Unlike previously known sites where engravings were hidden in cracks (裂缝), the Jebel Mleiha and the Jebel Arnaan panels were carved onto towering rock walls, some up to 39 meters high, in visually commanding locations to ensure they could be seen from great distances. One wall painting showed that the artists had to climb high and work at dangerous heights, showing how hard and important their work was.
“The project has begun to fill a critical gap in the archaeological record of northern Arabia between the periods of LGM and the Holocene. It helps people understand how early desert communities adapted to ancient climate changes and created new things,” said Michael Petraglia, lead of the project.
28.What does the underlined word “depict” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Defend. B.Describe. C.Develop. D.Detect.
29.What is a possible purpose of the engravings?
A.To guide travel routes. B.To honor the power of nature.
C.To symbolize land occupation. D.To memorize the end of the dry period.
30.Why might the artists have chosen to carve on high rock walls?
A.To make their art more visible and awesome. B.To protect the engravings from being damaged.
C.To demonstrate their strength and climbing skills. D.To follow the tradition of earlier hidden carvings.
31.What does the text mainly show about ancient rock art?
A.Its artistic value. B.Its creative approach.
C.Its historical significance. D.The progressive development.

Pieter Bruegel’s symbolic 1565 painting The Harvesters hangs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The work showed people harvesting wheat nearly as tall as they were. “Nowadays, however, if you walk through a wheat field, you basically see that wheat is about knee-height. The reduced height is essentially a consequence of breeding (培育) along with genes (基因) for increasing production to feed a growing population,” biologist (生物学家) De Smet explained.
De Smet says wheat is just one example of how historical artwork can allow us to track the development of food crops over time. He teamed up with art historian Vergauwen, a friend since childhood, to document such artwork around the world. They have been mainly looking at things where they can spot changes in shape, color and size.
Their interest in plants in artwork began with a visit to the Hermitage Museum, where they noticed an odd-looking watermelon in an early-17th-century painting. It appeared to be pale and white on the inside. Biologist De Smet assumed the painter had done a poor job. But art historian Vergauwen had a different idea. “No, this is one of the best painters ever from that time. So if he painted it like that, that’s the way it must have looked like,” he explained.
Other paintings revealed that both red and white watermelons were grown during the 17th century. “With all the genetic knowledge we now have, we can look in more details how something comes about,” De Smet said. “For example, until the 18th century, European strawberries appeared tiny in paintings — they then grew in size as they were crossbred with North American varieties.”
Ultimately, the team hopes to create an online research database of historical plant artworks. They seek the contributions of art fans around the world over the social media. “However,” Vergauwen reminds, “if you’re going to use, for example, Picasso to try and understand how a pear looked in the early 20th century, you might be misled.”
32.What can we learn about the painting The Harvesters?
A.It shows how people successfully grew wheat.
B.It proves that wheat was much shorter in the past.
C.It explains the consequence of different breeding methods.
D.It gives clues about how wheat in the 16th century looked like.
33.What inspired the research team to start their study?
A.Their preference for food crops. B.Their distinct views on an old painting.
C.Their friendship since childhood. D.Their shared interest in Hermitage Museum.
34.What does Vergauwen say about the plant research in the last paragraph?
A.Art lovers are not careful enough.
B.Historical artworks often misled researchers.
C.Not all historical plant artworks are reliable.
D.Picasso’s paintings are hard to understand.
35.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To introduce a study on crop development.
B.To comment on historical plant paintings.
C.To inform readers of a scientific breakthrough.
D.To tell interesting stories behind plant artworks.

阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Reimagining history is a fascinating phenomenon in contemporary art. More and more, I realize that artists are trying to retell historical events and past figures, to reflect on the past and to offer new perspectives on our current context.
Artists have taken historical figures and given them new meanings that I find inspiring. Wiley, for instance, is known for his portraits of Black men and women in poses traditionally associated with the upper class. 36 That invites me to reflect on the power in the history of art. On the other hand, Christian Boltanski reimagines history by focusing on the traces of ordinary people. His artwork, The Heart Archives, is a collection of recorded heartbeats from thousands of people around the world, stored on a remote island in Japan. Instead of focusing on grand historical events, Boltanski builds a bridge to the past through the most universal human experience. 37
38 Projects like “The Legacy of the 1960s” at the Museum of Modern Art in New York gather works from multiple artists that analyze the impact of social movements from that decade. This cooperative approach allows me to hear various voices, offering me a richer and more complex view of history.
Reimagining history can also be an act of protest. Artists like Doris Salcedo address painful historical events, such as the violence in Colombia, to give voice to the forgotten victims. Through this emotional art piece, Salcedo invites audience to reflect on the pain of the past and its relevance in the present, reminding us that the past is never truly separate from the present. 39
40 Some argue that reimagining history can belittle serious events or twist historical truth. It is essential that artists, including myself, approach this process with responsibility and a critical sense.
A.His work aims to portray the Black in a realistic way.
B.However, I am aware reimagining is not without its criticisms.
C.Reimagining successfully lead people to view history critically.
D.This type of work not only honors memory but also calls for action.
E.Through such poetic gestures, I feel a deep sense of shared humanity.
F.Besides individual artists, collective exhibitions are key in reimagining.
G.In doing so, he challenges historical accounts that ignore people of color.

On my 15th birthday, my parents gave me a big box wrapped in colorful paper as a gift. My eyes lit up. I was sure it was the new watch I had been asking for months. But when I opened it, I found something completely unexpected — a small, old-fashioned camera.
At first, I felt a little disappointed. I had dreamed of wearing a brand-new watch to school and showing it off to my friends. But the camera looked so different from what I wanted. My dad noticed my expression and said, “This camera belonged to your grandfather. He loved taking photos of our family when he was alive. I think you might enjoy it too.”
That evening, Dad brought me an old family album — Grandpa’s collection. Inside were photos of Dad as a kid, grandma who was gardening, and even baby me playing with a toy. All of us were smiling happily. I was going through the family album page by page, as if reading one heartwarming family story after another. It also felt like I was seeing my dad’s growth and the wonderful time we spent with each other.
I found Grandpa also loved recording everyday moments, just like me. Thinking of it, I decided to give it a try. That weekend, I took the camera to the park. At first, I didn’t know much about photography, but soon I started noticing the little details around me — the way sunlight fell through the leaves, the smile on a child’s face, and the reflection of clouds in the lake. Each photo felt like a small treasure.

Having grown up deeply involved in China’s artistic traditions, I possess a deep understanding of its cultural context, symbolism, and historical significance. I believe I can effectively assist visitors in appreciating these artworks while promoting cross-cultural communication. Additionally, sharing my heritage with the local community would be a meaningful way to promote mutual understanding.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of supporting this wonderful exhibition.
Sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)
A month later, I took some photos for an art show and won the first prize. My heart raced when my name was called. Classmates crowded around, praising how warm my photos were — like the sunlight through leaves and a kid’s smile. I told them about Grandpa’s old camera, “It makes me notice small happy things, like he’s with me.” My teacher patted my shoulder, saying the love in the photos made them special.
I decided to use the camera to make my own family album. On weekends, I took photos of Mom cooking, Grandma watering roses, and Dad fixing bikes. Last night, we looked at the photos together. Mom laughed, and Dad said Grandpa would be proud. Every time I used that old camera, I felt connected to my grandfather. Holding the camera, I felt lucky — it’s more precious than a watch, tying our family’s love tightly.

14.What does Rosa mention about her childhood?
A.She was fashionable.
B.She liked beautiful jewelry.
C.She had a wide range of interests.
15.What inspired Rosa to be a jewelry designer?
A.A stranger. B.A documentary. C.A piece of jewelry.

A.It is linked to some literary works.
B.It is designed mainly for the young.
C.It combines the old and the new styles.
17.What aspect of jewelry does Rosa pay attention to?
A.The complexity. B.The overall effect. C.The details.
【答案】14.C 15.B 16.A 17.B
【原文】M: Rosa, you’re one of the most fashionable jewelry designers in Europe. What made you take up this profession?
W: As a kid, I was into so many different things that it made it hard to choose what I wanted to do later in life. What I realized though was that I loved making things. One day I saw a documentary about a jewelry maker and it seemed like the perfect way to link this to fashion, which I’d also got into as a teenager.
M: Tell me more about the jewelry you make.
W: What I’ve become well-known for is making jewelry that has connections with literature. So people can imagine the tale that inspired it. I generally avoid making it old-fashioned in style as that’s all been done before. I’m not a great fan of highly complex designs, either, as they tend to focus on the detail rather than the overall effect.
M: You’re based in a relatively small town. Why is that?
W: Maybe it’s because lots of creative people have settled there.

18.What did Bohlin do in his first job?
A.He taught at a college.
B.He designed aircraft.
C.He produced cars.

A.In 1942. B.In 1958. C.In 1959.
20.Which country was the first to introduce car seat belt laws?
A.Japan. B.Australia. C.France.
【答案】18.B 19.C 20.B
【原文】
M: Hi, my talk today’s about an invention, the modern car seat belt.
The inventor of the modern car seat belt was a Swedish man called Nils Bohlin. Bohlin had trained as a mechanical engineer at college before gaining his first employment as an aircraft designer. He did well, so was invited to join a car manufacturing company as a safety engineer.
Bohlin had often worked on improving seats and seat belts for planes since starting his working life in 1942. After joining the car manufacturer in 1958, he spent the following 12 months developing his ideas for cars, and then a car featuring Bohlin’s creation on both front seats was introduced, making it the earliest example of a vehicle with modern seat belts.
However, it took many years for them to become widely accepted. Japan made it a rule that everyone must wear seat belts in their cars across the whole country in 1971. A year earlier, two of the six states in Australia had introduced similar rules. France was the first European nation to create seat belt laws several years later. It’s incredible to think that some investment in research and development in the manufacturing industry has had such a huge global impact.

【答案】24.D 25.A 26.C 27.B

【答案】32.D 33.B 34.C 35.A

33.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Their interest in plants in artwork began with a visit to the Hermitage Museum, where they noticed an odd-looking watermelon in an early-17th-century painting. It appeared to be pale and white on the inside. Biologist De Smet assumed the painter had done a poor job. But art historian Vergauwen had a different idea.(他们对艺术品中植物的兴趣始于一次参观冬宫博物馆,在那里他们注意到一幅17世纪早期的画作中有一个看起来很奇怪西瓜。它的内部看起来苍白而发白。生物学家德·斯梅特认为画家画得不好。但艺术史学家维加文有不同的想法)”可知,他们对一幅古老画作的不同看法激发了研究团队开始他们的研究。故选B项。

35.推理判断题。通读全文,结合第二段中“De Smet says wheat is just one example of how historical artwork can allow us to track the development of food crops over time. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【参考答案】
