I'm here to offer you some tips on public speaking. One of the worst mistakes you can make as a public speaker is talking too long IT doesn't matter if your entire speech was good and the audience came away with information that will change their lives. If you talk too long, they will live saying that speaker just wouldn't quit. Don't let this happen to you. Say what you have to say and sit down before you do. Give them a well thought out closing. The last thing you say is generally what the audience remembers most, just like you're opening your clothing, doesn't have to be humorous IT could be chAllenging, thoughtful or IT could retell your point in a different way. Please, at some time during your talk, ask the audience to do something many a great talk went no farther than the walls of the meeting room because the audience wasn't moved to action. Ellie Hamby, 84, from Abilene, Texas, and Dr. Sandy Hazelip, 84, from Eastland, Texas, dreamed of traveling the world and it finally happened. They shared their intention to travel the world together in a video online — and, more importantly, how they made it happen. Hamby and Hazelip talked about their journey together and what they have learned from the world at over 80 years old.
The women’s friendship began over 20 years ago on a medical trip in Zambia, Africa, where Hamby and her late husband were directors and Hazelip was one of the physicians. Later on in Texas, both women found themselves facing life alone after their husbands passed away — but their bond was solidified when Hazelip moved in with Hamby for a few nights a week when she received an opportunity to open a clinic at a facility near Hamby.
Over the years, those moments together grew into a deep-seated friendship. The pair started their adventures together to remote places almost two decades ago, but it was their latest, most ambitious trip that brought them to the world’s attention.
“We’ve been to all seven continents, most of the world’s wonders and to almost 50 countries,” Hamby said. “The best highlights aren’t about the places, but about the people we met along the journey.” And their journeys have not been without moments of excitement, including a trip on the Trans-Siberian Railway and a trip to the Middle East in 2011. Their most-recent senior travel adventure, the around-the-world-in-80-days trip, was done in 80 consecutive days, just like in Jules Verne’s novel — traveling day after day with no breaks.
Hamby and Hazelip said they had no idea their travels would turn them into social-media celebrities, but they now get recognized at airports after a video received over 6 million views. “Never in our wildest dreams did we think something like this would ever happen to us,” the friends said.
For those who may feel it is too late to live out their dreams, Hamby and Hazelip offered a powerful final message: “Get up out of your easy chair; step out of your comfort zone; make a plan and live.”
24.Where did Ellie Hamby and Dr. Sandy Hazelip first meet?
A.In Abilene, Texas. B.On a medical mission in Zambia.
C.At a clinic near Hamby’s home. D.During their around-the-world trip.
25.What do Ellie Hamby and Dr. Sandy Hazelip think is the best part of their travels?
A.Visiting all seven continents. B.Seeing most of the world’s wonders.
C.Meeting different people along the way. D.Taking the Trans-Siberian Railway.
26.What does the underlined word “consecutive” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Continuous. B.Separate. C.Occasional. D.Memorable.
27.What does two women’s experience show?
A.Interest is the best teacher. B.Traveling can make people famous.
C.Social media is essential for traveling. D.Age is not a barrier to pursuing one’s dreams.
【答案】 24.B 25.C 26.A 27.D
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。主要讲述两位84岁的美国女性好友携手环游世界,用经历证明年龄不是追梦障碍的故事。
24.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The women’s friendship began over 20 years ago on a medical trip in Zambia, Africa, where Hamby and her late husband were directors and Hazelip was one of the physicians.(两位女士的友谊始于20多年前非洲赞比亚的一次医疗旅行,当时汉比和她已故的丈夫是负责人,黑泽利普是其中一名医生。)”可知,两人最初是在赞比亚的医疗旅行中相识。故选B项。
25.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“The best highlights aren’t about the places, but about the people we met along the journey.(最精彩的部分不在于那些地方,而在于我们旅途中遇到的人。)”可知,她们认为旅行中最棒的部分是沿途结识不同的人。故选C项。
26.词句猜测题。根据第四段中的“just like in Jules Verne’s novel — traveling day after day with no breaks.(就像儒勒·凡尔纳的小说中那样——日复一日地旅行,没有间断。)”可知,“consecutive”在此处表示“连续的、不间断的”,与选项A“Continuous”含义一致。故选A项。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“For those who may feel it is too late to live out their dreams, Hamby and Hazelip offered a powerful final message: “Get up out of your easy chair; step out of your comfort zone; make a plan and live.”(对于那些可能觉得实现梦想为时已晚的人,汉比和黑泽利普给出了一条有力的最终信息:“从安乐椅上站起来;走出你的舒适区;制定计划并去生活。”)”以及全文两位84岁老人环游世界的经历可知,她们的故事证明了年龄不是追求梦想的障碍。故选D项。

You’ve probably encountered images in your social media feeds that look like a cross between photographs and computer-generated graphics. Some are imaginative and some are believable at a quick look — remember the little girl carrying a little dog in a boat during a flood? These are examples of AI slop (垃圾), low-to mid-quality content — video, images, audio, text or a mix — created with AI tools, often with little regard for accuracy. It’s fast, easy and inexpensive to make this content. AI slop producers typically place it on social media to employ the economics of attention on the Internet, displacing higher-quality material that could be more helpful.
AI slop has been increasing over the past few years. As the term “slop” indicates, that’s generally not good for people using the Internet. The Guardian published an analysis in July 2025 examining how AI slop is taking over YouTube’s fastest-growing channels. The journalists found that nine out of the top 100 fastest-growing channels feature AI-generated content. In many cases, people submit AI slop that’s just good enough to attract and keep users’ attention, allowing the submitter to profit from platforms that monetize (变现) streaming and view-based content.
The ease of generating content with AI enables people to submit low-quality articles to publications. Clarkesworld, an online science fiction magazine that accepts user submissions and pays contributors, stopped taking new submissions in 2024 because of the flood of AI-generated writing it was getting.
AI slop also harms artists by causing job and financial losses and crowding out content made by real creators. The placement of this lower-quality AI-generated content is often not distinguished by the algorithms (算法) that drive social media consumption, and it displaces entire classes of creators who previously made their livelihood from online content.
Wherever it’s enabled, you can flag content that’s harmful or problematic. On some platforms, you can add community notes to the content to provide context. For harmful content, you can try to report it. Along with forcing us to be on guard for “inauthentic” social media accounts, AI is now leading to piles of rubbish degrading our media environment.

D
The alarm goes off! It’s time to begin a day: eat the same breakfast, take the same journey to work, see the same people, and, at the end of the day, go to bed at the same time. Slowly but surely, your entire life becomes routine, and the world outside of this gray boredom fades to nothing. You close yourself off to the world.
This is what existentialist (存在主义者) Gabriel Marcel called “crispation”. For Marcel, crispation is when everything gets stuck in habits and routines. It’s the state of mind that says, “But…I’ve always done it this way” when one is presented with a new opportunity. Crispation is what says no to the call to adventure; people tend to become trapped within a “shell” that gradually hardens and restricts them.
In some ways, we live in an age when we focus too much on habits. James Clear’s Atomic Habits has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, and there are articles and videos titled “How to Build Successful Habits.” Normally, our brains need certain habitual inspiration to function and often the most successful people are those who form strong habits. But there’s also a shadow side to habits. If we shift our view, we’ll find habits look like ruts (刻板乏味的生活) and routines become crispation.
Too many of us are doing more of the same thing we like a lot instead of trying new things. This is especially true in middle age. People in midlife have the lowest subjective happiness ratings for all age groups because mostly, people establish a family and live in one place. In terms of their jobs, they have kind of reached the peak or are close to it, and they are kind of just maintaining the present situation rather than developing.
The dissatisfied tiredness of non-improvement is often fueled by our habits and routines. So consider finding ways to open ourselves to new experiences and, connections by challenging the comfort of our daily patterns. We should seek opportunities to explore. Embracing change is not just an escape from boredom, but a step toward living a life full of purpose and joy.
32.How does the author introduce the topic?
A.By defining a concept. B.By providing an example.
C.By making a comparison. D.By proposing a question.
33.What do people experiencing “crispation” tend to do?
A.Limit themselves in a circle. B.Value chances to adventure.
C.Enjoy socializing with others. D.Learn new things much slower.
34.What does the author want to show through the widespread popularity of Clear’s book?
A.People’s similar reading habits.
B.People’s eagerness to get out of a rut.
C.People’s shifting interest in printed books.
D.People’s strong emphasis on developing habits.
35.Which of the following best expresses the main idea of the passage?
A.Good habits contribute to success. B.Breaking habits leads to happiness.
C.Maintaining routines cause midlife crisis. D.Habits need to be balanced with change.
【答案】 32.B 33.A 34.D 35.D
【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章通过讨论习惯与僵化对个人生活的影响,提出了作者对于如何打破常规、寻求新体验和拥抱变化的观点。
32.推理判断题。根据第一段“The alarm goes off! It’s time to begin a day: eat the same breakfast, take the same journey to work, see the same people, and, at the end of the day, go to bed at the same time. Slowly but surely, your entire life becomes routine, and the world outside of this gray boredom fades to nothing. You close yourself off to the world.(闹钟响了!是时候开始新的一天了:吃同样的早餐,走同样的上班路,见同样的人,最后,在一天结束的时候,在同一时间上床睡觉。慢慢地,但肯定地,你的整个生活变得例行公事,而这个灰暗无聊的世界之外的世界逐渐消失。你把自己与外界隔绝开来。)”可知,作者通过描述一个日常生活的例子来引入话题。故选B。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段“Crispation is what says no to the call to adventure; people tend to become trapped within a “shell” that gradually hardens and restricts them.(Crispation就是对冒险的召唤说不;人们倾向于被困在一个逐渐变硬并限制他们的“壳”里。)”可知,经历“crispation”的人倾向于把自己限制在一个圈子里。故选A。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段“In some ways, we live in an age when we focus too much on habits. James Clear’s Atomic Habits has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, and there are articles and videos titled “How to Build Successful Habits”.(在某些方面,我们生活在一个过于关注习惯的时代。

Preparing for Your Journey to Space: A Practical Guide
With companies like SpaceX making space travel increasingly accessible, the dream of adventuring beyond Earth is closer than ever. However, becoming a space traveler requires more than just a ticket — it demands careful preparation in several key areas.
Engage in Physical Training
36 . You will experience powerful gravity during launch and re-entry, and live in microgravity while in orbit. Therefore, prospective travelers must undergo a specialized fitness training to ensure their bodies can stand the physical demands of the voyage. This preparation is crucial for space sickness.
Cultivate Mental Strength
While physical health is vital, psychological preparedness is equally important. A space mission involves staying in a small spacecraft, isolation, and the need to remain calm under pressure. 37 . Thus, developing a determined and adaptable mindset is essential for dealing with the mental frontier of space travel.
Master the Procedures and Systems
Before your launch, you will receive comprehensive training on the spacecraft’s systems and flight procedures. 38 Knowing what to expect during each phase, from liftoff to orbit and re-entry, will ease anxiety and allow you to engage more fully with the journey.
39
Life in space requires relearning everyday activities in a weightless environment. 40 . You will use soapy towels to clean yourself, as water does not flow but floats. Practicing with similar items on Earth can help you adapt more quickly once you slip Earth’s gravity, making your daily routine in space more efficient.
A.Adapt to Daily Life in Microgravity

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【参考答案】
Dear judges,
It is my great honor to give a speech.
I believe the saying “Smile for life, and every day will be sunshine” conveys a powerful truth: our attitude shapes our reality. A genuine smile reflects inner strength and optimism, helping us face challenges with courage and discover hope in ordinary moments.
Let me illustrate this with an example. Helen Keller, though blind and deaf, chose to embrace life with incredible positivity. Her famous words, “Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow,” show how her optimistic spirit turned darkness into light.
Let us smile not just with our lips, but with our hearts. When we do so, every day truly becomes filled with sunshine. Thank you!
第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a sunny Saturday morning. Sam, a 14-year-old boy, decided to go hiking alone on a small mountain near his home. He packed some water, bread, a first-aid kit, and a whistle his father gave him for safety. The forest was quiet and beautiful, with sunlight dancing through the leaves. Birds sang cheerfully above him. Sam felt happy and free as he walked along the narrow dirt path, enjoying the fresh air and the sense of adventure.
After about an hour, Sam began to feel tired. He stopped to rest under a big tree. Suddenly, he heard a strange noise, like an animal digging in the ground. He held his breath and looked carefully between the trees. There, about twenty steps away, was a wild boar (野猪). It was big and dark, with two sharp, curved teeth sticking out from its mouth. It was using its nose to push through the dirt, looking for roots or insects to eat.
Sam’s heart beat fast. His hands felt cold. He remembered something from a TV show about wildlife: “If you see a wild animal, don’t run. Stay calm and back away slowly.” He stood very still, trying not to make a sound. The pig hadn’t seen him yet, but he was afraid it might smell him. Wild pigs can be dangerous if they are surprised or if their babies are nearby. Sam glanced around but saw no sign of baby pigs.
Sam looked around for a way out. Behind him was the path he came from. To his left was a steep hill covered with many loose stones. To his right were several thick trees that he could maybe hide behind. He needed to leave quietly, but how? Just then, the pig lifted its head and looked around. Its small, dark eyes moved toward Sam’s direction. Sam’s hand touched the whistle around his neck, but he didn’t blow it. He knew a loud sound might make the pig angry or scared.

【参考答案】
Sam took a slow, deep breath and recalled something important from his science class. His teacher once said, “Animals often avoid humans if they feel no threat.” So instead of turning away, Sam slowly raised his arms to look taller, stayed facing the boar, and stepped backward, one quiet step at a time. He kept his eyes on the animal but avoided direct staring, which might seem threatening. The boar breathed hard, shook its head, and after a few tense seconds, turned back to the ground. Sam continued moving back until the trees hid him from view.
When Sam finally got back to the start of the path, he was tired but felt strong inside. He sat down on a rock, heart still racing, but a calm smile spread across his face. He realized that staying calm and using what he’d learned had saved him. That evening, he told his father everything. His dad hugged him and said, “You didn’t just hike a mountain. You conquered your fear.” From then on, Sam always carried his whistle not just around his neck, but in his mind, along with a quiet confidence that grew with every new trail he walked.

28.Why do producers create AI slop according to Paragraph 1?
A.To improve artistic expression globally.
B.To use Internet attention economies for profit.
C.To replace professional photographers forever.
D.To educate Internet users about new technologies.
29.What can we infer from Clarkesworld’s action in 2024?
A.Their subscriber base doubled unexpectedly. B.They began paying higher fees for human writers.
C.AI submissions flooded their system. D.Science fiction became less popular.
30.What should individuals do regarding the rise of AI slop?
A.Stop using AI-generated content completely.
B.Take active measures to deal with harmful AI content.
C.Rely on algorithms to screen out low-quality content.
D.Avoid engaging with social media platforms due to AI slop.
31.Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A.AI Slop: A New Form of Art B.The Positive Effects of AI on Media
C.The Role of Social Media in Promoting AI Slop D.AI Slop: The Growing Threat to Online Content

B.Improve Efficiency in Daily Routine
C.These challenges test astronauts’ psychology vastly
D.Space presents extreme challenges to the human body
E.Space travel brings psychological and emotional challenges
F.Eating, sleeping, and personal hygiene are conducted differently
G.This includes learning the vehicle’s operations during emergency

Thank you!
第二节 (满分25分)

B.Improve Efficiency in Daily Routine
C.These challenges test astronauts’ psychology vastly
D.Space presents extreme challenges to the human body
E.Space travel brings psychological and emotional challenges
F.Eating, sleeping, and personal hygiene are conducted differently

第二节(满分25分)

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
Sam took a slow, deep breath and recalled something important from his science class._________________
