After reflecting on the past few years of my transition to the triathlon (铁人三项),I am most proud of the gains I have made in swimming.Actually, this is my weakest one of the three, but I have worked at it,stuck with it and am motivated by small successes.
My heart still jumps when I remember that night six months ago when I swam 2,100m for the first time.I was planning to swim 1,800m and could not believe my eyes when I saw 2,100m on my watch. At that point,I realized that I had the endurance, and speed needed to become my focus.
Last year, after participating in my first triathlon,I increased my time in the pool to 4 or 5 times a week.I swam once a week in a master swim club.Impressed by the power and speed of other swimmers around me,I found my spot in Lane l,the slow lane,to work on different strokes (游泳姿势) and speed. This was great because I became more comfortable with pool toys, worked different muscle groups other than those used in freestyle, and I realized that I was not always slow.
There is nothing better than a bit of individual attention to help improve.During the summer,I had 4 classes with a swim coach to work on my technique as we both knew that I had to improve that before I could get faster in the water. We changed my catch, corrected my pull and strengthened my kick.
The combination of these has made a huge difference in how I swim. There is still quite a bit of work ahead of me.I have no doubt that I will continue to grow as a swimmer. With goals being set and new dreams to chase (追逐),pool time is about to get a lot more interesting.

In 2019,tiny green plants spouted (发芽) on the moon. The plants arrived as cotton seeds, carried by Chang'e 4,a Chinese spacecraft that had landed,in a historic first,on the far side of the moon, the side that never turns toward Earth. The seeds came with the comforts of home:Water, air, soil, and a heating system for warmth. However, about a week later, they all died.Lunar night had set in.Without enough sunlight, surface temperatures near the spacecraft suddenly lowered to -52 degrees Celsius. The heating system wasn't designed to last. The plants froze.Outer space,as you might expect,is not kind to plants,or people,or most living things.
China's experiment marked the first time biological matter has been grown on the moon. But plants have blossomed (开花) in space for years. They just need a little more care and attention than their peers growing on earth.Plants are planted inside special rooms equipped with artificial lights pretending to be the sun.Seeds are planted in nutrientrich substance with fertilizers (化肥).Water, unable to flow on its own,is administered carefully and precisely to roots.
Scientists are thinking about more than nutrition in these planting experiments.Research has shown that gardening is soothing and can be beneficial for good mental health.Future deepspace astronauts, who are in a small spaceship for a long time with the same people, will need all the soothing activities they can find.Plants, especially flowers, grown not for consumption but for decoration may help the astronauts feel connected to the comforts of Earth.“There's a great deal of joy in growing and watering the plants and producing a flower,” Robinson, the ISS(International Space Station)scientist says.“There can also be some real sadness if plants you've been cultivating are not successful and are dying.”

We can see the moon every day,but in fact, humans have not been able to see the true face of the moon. For example,we all view the same side of it — the near side.So why don't we ever see the far side of the moon?
The secret behind this fascinating mystery is “tidal locking (潮汐锁定)”.To better understand it,let's imagine two friends holding hands and turning around. As they turn, they always face each other because they're locked in position by their hands.Similarly, the moon is locked to Earth by tidal force, which means it takes just as long for the moon to turn about its axis (轴) as it does to go around Earth. As a result,we always see the same side of the moon from our position on Earth, while the opposite side, known as the far side or the dark side, remains hidden from view.
Now,you might be wondering why people use the term “dark side” when referring to the far side of the moon.Contrary to popular belief, the far side isn't always in darkness.Like the near side,it experiences day and night. However, since we can't observe it from Earth,it often lies in mystery, and thus it gets this name.
Although we'll never see the far side of the moon directly from Earth, humanity has found ways to explore it.Several spacecrafts have taken photos which furthered our understanding of the lunar far side.In June 2024,China's Chang'e 6 made a soft landing on the far side of the moon and sent back more closeup photos. It brought back soil and rocks collected from there, opening a new chapter in lunar exploration and enabling scientists to discover what they didn't know about the moon.
There is still so much more to explore on the lunar far side. For example, the far side of the moon is a rare and quiet place free from radio signals reflecting from our planet, which allows scientists to study space phenomena with greater clarity, making it a perfect location for studying space using radio waves.

He Made Me an Angel (天使)
When I was in seventh grade,I was a candy striper (医院志愿者) at a local hospital in my town.I volunteered about thirty to forty hours a week during the summer. Most of the time I spent there was with Mr.Gillespie.He never had any visitors, and nobody seemed to care about his condition.
I spent many days there holding his hand and talking to him, helping with anything that needed to be done.He became a close friend of mine, even though he responded with only an occasional squeeze (捏) of my hand.Mr.Gillespie was in a coma (昏迷).
I left for a week to vacation with my parents, and when I came back,Mr.Gillespie was gone.I didn't have the courage to ask any of the nurses where he was,for fear they might tell me he had died.So with many questions unanswered,I continued to volunteer there through my eighthgrade year.
Several years later, when I was a junior in high school,I was at the gas station when I noticed a familiar face. When I realized who it was,my eyes were filled with tears. He was alive! I got up the courage to ask him if his name was Mr.Gillespie, and if he had been in a coma about five years ago. With an uncertain look on his face,he replied yes.I explained how I knew him,and that I had spent many hours talking with him in the hospital. His eyes welled up with tears, and he gave me the warmest hug I had ever received.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Then Mr.Gillespie told me what happened to him five years ago.
“It was your voice and touch that had kept me alive”,Mr.Gillespie said with gratitude.
Then Mr.Gillespie told me what happened to him five years ago.It turned out that a road crash left him in a coma, but no one could get in touch with his family. When he lay there in hospital,he could hear someone talking to him and could feel his hand being held the whole time.“I thought it was an angel, not a person, who was there with me!” he said excitedly.Seeing the smiling face,I felt a surge of warmth welling up inside my heart with tears of happiness streaming down my face.
“It was your voice and touch that had kept me alive”,Mr.Gillespie said with gratitude.“Thank you so much,my angel!” With tears in his eyes,he hugged me tightly and thanked me again and again.Hearing what Mr.Gillespie said,I felt a mixture of joy and touching emotion surging through me.I never expected that a little kindness could make me treated as an angel! Although I haven't seen him since,he fills my heart with joy every day and I will never forget what he did for me:he made me an angel.
