A In the heart of California's Berkeley community, one familiar face has stood as a guide of safety and kindness for nearly twenty years. Alice Kay Tolbert has said farewell (告别) to her post as a crossing guard at the crossroads of Keoncrest Drive and Rose Street. Her retirement has drawn an outpouring of love and gratitude from the community she served tirelessly. Rain or shine,Miss Alice faithfully guided children safely across the busy streets, ensuring not a single child was injured under her watchful eye.But her impact stretched beyond mere safety measures.Miss Alice became a cherished figure for her warmth, positivity, and devotion to the wellbeing of every child she encountered. On her final day,the community came together in a heartwarming display of appreciation.Parents and children, both past and present, gathered with balloons and handmade signs to celebrate Miss Alice's remarkable service.Even older students, who hadn't needed her assistance for years, returned to express their gratitude and bid her farewell. Penelope Piper Soto,a young student touched by Miss Alice's kindness, shared memories of her crossing roads:“She'll always highfive me in the morning when I walk to school, and always say hello, and she always has a smile on her face.Once when I was little,I admired her necklace, and it was really pretty...and she gave me the gem (宝石) that was on the necklace.” Such memories highlight the significant impact Miss Alice had on the lives of those she encountered daily. Her small acts of kindness, whether a comforting smile or a shared stuff, left an unforgettable mark on the hearts of Berkeley's residents. 1.Which of the following did Miss Alice do for the children in the community? A.She was invited to teach traffic rules. B.She gave first aid to the injured children. C.She ensured their safety and cheered them up. D.She gifted them with balloons and handicrafts. 根据第三段“Rain or shine,Miss Alice faithfully guided children safely across the busy streets, ensuring not a single child was injured under her watchful eye.But her impact stretched beyond mere safety measures.Miss Alice became a cherished figure for her warmth, positivity, and devotion to the wellbeing of every child she encountered.” C。 2.What does Penelope's story show about Alice Kay Tolbert? A.Her sense of responsibility. B.Her kindness and generosity. C.Her professionalism as a guard. D.Her popularity with strangers. B。 3.Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A.Alice Kay:A Respected Policewoman B.Berkeley Community:A Circle with Safety and Love C.From Streets to Hearts:An Adventurous Life of Alice Kay D.A Farewell to the Angel on Streets:Berkeley's Beloved Crossing Guard Retires 解析 D 主旨大意题。根据第二段“Alice Kay Tolbert has said farewell (告别) to her post as a crossing guard at the crossroads of Keoncrest Drive and Rose Street. Her retirement has drawn an outpouring of love and gratitude from the community she served tirelessly.” B (2025·福州高一检测)When Katie Stagliano grew a 40pound cabbage, she didn't know that she was beginning to develop a dream as well. When the 10yearold girl from Summerville,South Carolina realized how much cabbage was in her garden, she decided to donate it to needy families by working with Fields to Families,a nonprofit organization based in South Carolina that gives the hungry access to nutritious fruits and vegetables. Katie's cabbage fed nearly 300 people and inspired her to learn more about childhood hunger in the United States. On discovering that more than 12 million kids in the United States go to bed hungry each night,Katie decided to take action. Her first task was to work together with her family to expand their own garden so that they could donate more vegetables to needy families. But beyond her own backyard, she wanted to teach other children how to get involved. To grow her idea, she started the planting of a garden at her school, which also donates its fresh produce to local food agencies.Through a generous donation from Fields to Families,Katie's school is receiving seeds and volunteer help, and Katie will get the chance to work there with a master gardener as her teacher! Katie also designed her very own “No Hungry Children” Tshirt, which is available for purchase online.A part of the proceeds from her Tshirt sales economically supports Katie's efforts,as well as the work of Amazing Kids,a nonprofit organization that focuses on the dreams of kids like Katie. “I think it is important to have something to strive for,” says Katie.“By planting a garden or just some seeds in a pot you can make a difference. My cabbage alone fed 275 people. If more kids did the same,we all could be helping to make a longtime dream of no hungry people possible.” 4.What does Fields to Families do according to the passage? A.Work to feed hungry people. B.Grow fruits and vegetables. C.Have fields in South Carolina. D.Provide job opportunities for poor families. 根据第一段中“...she decided to donate it to needy families by working with Fields to Families,a nonprofit organization based in South Carolina that gives the hungry access to nutritious fruits and vegetables.” A。 5.What can the underlined word “proceeds” in paragraph 4 be best replaced by? A.Experiences. B.Profits. C.Ideas. D.Friends. 根据第四段画线词上句“Katie also designed her very own ‘No Hungry Children’ Tshirt, which is available for purchase online.” B。 6.What does Katie hope according to the last paragraph? A.She can grow more cabbage in her garden. B.Every child has something important in his life. C.Hungry people can have dreams like others. D.More children will plant vegetables to help the hungry. 根据最后一段最后一句“If more kids did the same,we all could be helping to make a longtime dream of no hungry people possible.” D。 7.What would be the best title of this passage? A.Katie Stagliano,a girl full of dreams B.Everyone can make a success C.Tenyearold Katie Stagliano fights against hunger D.American hungry children in need of help 解析 C 标题归纳题。 C。 C Scientists who study happiness know that being kind to others can improve happiness.Acts as simple as buying a cup of coffee for someone can better a person's mood (心情),for example.Every day life affords many chances for such actions, yet people do not always make use of them. In a set of studies published online in the Journal of Experimental Psychology:General,Nick Epley,a behavioral scientist, and I examined a possible explanation. We found that people who perform random (随机的)acts of kindness do not always realize how much of an effect they are having on another person.People usually think little of how others value these acts. Across our investigations, several results came out.For one, both givers and receivers of the acts of kindness were in more positive moods than usual after these exchanges. For another,it was clear that givers undervalued (低估)their effect; receivers felt much better than the kind givers expected. The receivers also really recognized these acts as “bigger” than the people performing them did. At first,we studied acts of kindness done for familiar people, such as friends, classmates or family. But later we found that givers undervalued their positive effect on strangers as well.In one experiment, givers in a public park gave away hot chocolate to strangers on a cold winter's day.Once again, the experience was more positive than the givers expected for the receivers. While the people giving the hot chocolate saw the act as unimportant,it really mattered to the receivers. Our findings suggest that what might seem small to the givers could matter a great deal to the receivers.Since these warm acts can promote our own mood and brighten the day of another person, why not choose kindness when we can? 8.What do givers seldom think about? A.Comments about their acts. B.Effects of their acts on others. C.Scientists' explanation. D.Taste of happiness. 根据第二段中的第二句“We found that people who perform random acts of kindness do not always realize how much of an effect they are having on another person.” B。 9.What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 3 refer to? A.Investigations. B.Moods. C.Acts. D.Exchanges. them通常指代的是上文中的名词复数;根据第三段画线词所在句 “The receivers also really recognized these acts as ‘bigger’ than the people performing them did.” C。 10.Why does the author mention “gave away hot chocolate to strangers” in paragraph 4? A.To explain a rule. B.To prove a finding. C.To present a fact. D.To show a topic. 根据第四段中的第二句“But later we found that givers undervalued their positive effect on strangers as well.” B。 11.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Warm Acts Are Usually Valued B.Warm Acts Are Necessary For People C.Kindness Can Have Unexpectedly Positive Results D.Kindness Can Unexpectedly Brighten Our Own Day 解析 C 主旨大意题。根据最后一段中的“Our findings suggest that what might seem small to the givers could matter a great deal to the receivers.” Ⅱ. People disagree about meaningful and small matters on a daily basis.Sometimes you know if you speak your mind you will upset someone. However, you often must express your opinion even if you know others will disagree.By choosing your words carefully you can avoid a longterm offense (冒犯). “Ask people about their perspective (观点).Before being honest about how you feel,it's important to know their perspective. This gives you a chance to show genuine interest and have a conversation. 1 They may even end their explanation with a request to hear your perspective. •Put yourself in their shoes. One of the simplest ways to avoid hurting feelings is to imagine how they will respond to your statements. 2 Practise imagining how they view their own opinion and yours.Just because their perspective is different doesn't mean it's wrong. • 3 Be careful with your honesty. You want to speak the truth in kindness. That means avoiding obvious negative behaviors such as making a face or making fun of their ideas. •Be polite in your responses.Whenever you try to avoid hurting others it is best to speak with kindness.Simple acts of kindness can make a big difference. They convey respect and show that you value the other person. This situation isn't all about you speaking your mind. 4 •Express your perspective as opinion, not fact. This shows you value their perspective, even if you know the facts back you up.If they have an open mind, facts will change their perspective. If they do not have an open mind, facts will feel like personal attacks. 5 Allow them to discover the truth in their own way,not yours. A.They have a right to be incorrect. B.It's about them feeling valued. C.Control your words and body language. D.If they said that to you, would you be upset? E.Listening to others' opinion is a very powerful way. F.Use facts and try to avoid letting your emotions run high. G.This may also give you opportunities to speak up and be honest. [语篇解读] 说明文。文章告诉我们几条关于如何在不伤害他人感情的情况下保持诚实的建议。 1.解析 G 根据上文“This gives you a chance to show genuine interest and have a conversation.”和下文“They may even end their explanation with a request to hear your perspective.”可知,空处和上下文保持一致,说明询问别人观点带来的好处。G项中的“This may also give”和上文的“This gives”对应。G项:This may also give you opportunities to speak up and be honest.(这也会给你机会说出自己的想法,做到诚实。)符合语境。故选G。 2.解析 D 根据段落主题句“Put yourself in their shoes.”和上文“One of the simplest ways to avoid hurting feelings is to imagine how they will respond to your statements.”可知,空处承接上文,说明要站在别人的角度考虑问题。D项:If they said that to you, would you be upset?(如果他们那样对你说,你会生气吗?)切题。故选D项。 3.解析 C 根据下文“Be careful with your honesty. You want to speak the truth in kindness. That means avoiding obvious negative behaviors such as making a face or making fun of their ideas.”可知,本段主要讲述了要注意自己的言语和肢体语言。C项:Control your words and body language.(控制你的言语和肢体语言。)符合语境。故选C。 4.解析 B 根据上文“They convey respect and show that you value the other person. This situation isn't all about you speaking your mind.”可知,选项承接上文说明这种情况需要的结果。B选项“而是让他们感到被重视”符合语境。故选B。 5.解析 A 根据上文“If they do not have an open mind, facts will feel like personal attacks.”和下文“Allow them to discover the truth in their own way,not yours.”可知,认为你说的不对是他们的权利,让他们用自己的方式去发现真相。A选项“他们有犯错的权利”符合语境。故选A。 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
