限制性定语从句(3)
一、限制性定语从句和非限制性定语从句的区别
二者在形式上,非限制性定语从句用逗号与先行词隔开,限制性定语从句则不用用逗号隔开。除此之外还有下列区别:
限制性定语从句
非限制性定语从句
功能不同
是先行词在意义上不可缺少的定语,不可去掉,否则主句意思不完整
对先行词补充说明,可去掉,去掉后主句意思仍完整

名词、代词或名词性短语
名词、代词、名词性短语或整个主句
关系词的使用情况不同
that,which,who,whom,whose,as,where,when,why

一般译为定语

①My elder sister who has settled in Beijing sends me an email almost every day. (限制性定语从句)
我已在北京定居的姐姐几乎每天都给我发一封电子邮件。
②His wife, who is a famous actress, will visit China. (非限制性定语从句)
他的妻子,一位著名的女演员,将访问中国。
③The film (which/that) I saw a few days ago is well worth seeing. (限制性定语从句)
我几天前看过的那部电影很值得一看。

二、关系副词和关系代词
关系副词和关系代词的选择是根据先行词在定语从句中所作的成分。若是作状语,则用关系副词或“介词+which”;若是作主语、宾语、表语或定语,则用关系代词。

我绝不会忘记和你一起玩耍的日子。
③The factory (that/which) we visited yesterday was built last year.(宾语)
昨天我们参观的工厂是去年建成的。
④The factory where he works was built last year.(地点状语)
他工作的那家工厂是去年建成的。
⑤This is the reason (that/which) she gave me for doing it.(宾语)
这是她讲给我的做这件事的理由。
⑥The reason why/for which he refused the invitation is quite clear.(原因状语)
他拒绝接受邀请的原因十分明了。

三、“介词+关系代词”引导的定语从句选用介词的依据
1.根据定语从句中动词或形容词的搭配习惯。
Yesterday we visited the West Lake for which Hangzhou is famous.
昨天我们参观了西湖,杭州因它而出名。(be famous for 因……而出名)
2.根据与先行词搭配的具体意义。
More importantly,there are teachers online to whom you can turn for help.
更为重要的是,有一些你可以在线求助的老师。(turn to 向……求助)
3.根据句子所表达的意思来确定。
I am good at spoken English,as a result of which I can communicate with foreigners fluently.
我擅长英语口语,因此我能够流利地和外国人交流。
4.表示所属关系或整体中的一部分时,通常用介词of。
Julie was good at German, French and Russian,all of which she spoke fluently.
朱莉擅长德语、法语和俄语, 这三种语言她都说得流利。
5.“the+名词+of+which/whom或of+which/whom+the+名词” 引导的定语从句,可与“whose+名词”替换。
We've planned to hold an English drama festival,the theme of which/of which the theme is Love English & Love Drama.
→We've planned to hold an English drama festival,whose theme is Love English & Love Drama.
我们计划举办一个英语戏剧节,它的主题是“爱英语,爱戏剧”。
指津:在定语从句中,有一些含介词的动词短语不可拆开使用,如look after,look for等。
The babies whom the nurses are looking after are very healthy.(正确)
The babies after whom the nurses are looking are very healthy.(错误)
