AI technology has been used in many fields, and it is now playing an increasingly important role in matters of public interest.
A group of students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) has developed an AI system that restores (修复) old photos of missing children. Until now, they have been providing technological support for many parents with over 1,000 restored photos and helped reunite (使重聚) 11 missing children with their families.
The team was set up by Sheng Jianzhong five years ago, when he was a student at HUST. He first thought to restore photographs of missing children when he came across a missing child notice with a poor-quality photo in 2020. As he was studying digital image processing (数字图像处理) at school, he decided to use his skills to help the parents restore their images.
But the system cannot be completed by one person alone. Luckily, many like-minded students soon volunteered to join Sheng’s project.
After six months of hard work, they produced an image restoration AI system that solved the problem of unclear faces in photographs. A restored image can be generated in just a few minutes. Parents can then print the high-quality images of their missing children onto T-shirts or large posters.
In many cases, the team doesn’t have direct contact with the families. And sometimes the families don’t even know the team has helped them. “But we still feel satisfied, and we are happy for them,” Sheng said.
In the future, Sheng plans to build a more professional team. “It would use technology to help people who have lost their loved ones, and also encourage more young talents to work for a good cause,” he said.

35. What could be the best title of the text?

B. Public Interest matters Most

Xunpu is a small fishing village in Fujian Province. Last year, a few ladies took pictures there and shared them online. In the photos, their hair was tied into buns (发髻) and they wore a wreath (花冠). There were fresh, plastic and silk flowers on the wreath. It is called “Zanhua”. The photos were widely spread online. Many tourists started to come to the village. In less than six months, the number of zanhua stores there grew from less than 10 to more than 150.
The tradition of wearing flowers has been a part of local life since the Tang Dynasty. The village is famous for its good seafood. When female villagers sell their seafood at the local market, they put flowers in their hair. This way, buyers can distinguish (识别) them from sellers in nearby villages.
The tradition is also seen at happy events such as weddings. Locals send out invitation cards along with flowers. In turn, their female guests wear the flowers to the event.

They put flowers and gold ornaments in their hair. As for elderly women, they prefer red flowers, head scarves and other ornaments.

Have you ever shouted at your computer because it wasn’t working? ____41____ But AI researchers have been working on computers that can argue and perhaps even win debates (辩论) with humans.
IBM scientists recently published a paper in Nature about their new AI system—Project Debater. ____42____ After listening to arguments from its opponent (对手), the system can search around 400 million online articles in less than five minutes. Testing on the system began in 2019 when it debated with Harish Natarajan, a professional debater who holds the world record for the most debate competition victories. ____43____ And Project Debater argued to support this idea. Although Project Debater lost the debate in the end, the audience said it performed very well. Interestingly, 58 percent of the audience said that Project Debater increased their knowledge about the topic. ____44____

B. Of course, your computer can’t “shout” back.

Chang’e 7 probe (探测器) will travel to the moon in 2026. Thanks to some school kids in Hunan, it will carry a special national flag of China.
During a regular meeting of Lushan International Experimental Primary School’s science club, Deng Haoxuan raised an interesting question, “There is no wind on the moon, so how can we make the flag fly?” This question led to a heated discussion among his classmates.
Deng remembered that magnets (磁铁) can push away from each other, and he thought this might help the flag fly. However, when they tried using magnets, they found them too heavy and the flag kept falling.
Then, Deng and his team came up with a new idea. They glued wires (电线) to the flag. When the electric passed through these wires, they created a magnetic field (磁场). This made the flag move like magnets do.
The kids didn’t stop there. They learned that the idea might still work in space. After months of continuous testing and countless adjustments, they finally discovered the ideal position to place the wires.

31. What do we know about the AI system from Paragraph 2?
①Who developed it. ②What it is used for.
③When it was created. ④How many children it has helped to return home.
A. ①②④ B. ①③④ C. ②③④ D. ①②③
32. What made Sheng get the idea of the project?
A. A child he knew. B. A notice he saw.
C. A photo of his friend. D. An activity in his school.
33. What does the underlined word “generated” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Spread. B. Found. C. Produced. D. Described.
34. Which of the following can best describe the team?

“It’s amazing that our idea worked, and soon we’ll see the five-star red flag fly in space,” Deng said with excitement.
