After doing a Google search he found a cottage on Nokara Farms in St. Catherines, Canada and that is where we went. Cottage we stayed at was located on Nokara Farms. The cottage overlooked Ontario Lake and the view was exciting. Lying on the couch and looking straight out of the window I could see Ontario Lake. In the morning of our first day there, we traveled around the farm. I was glad that I hadn’t forgotten to bring my camera along with me. I was able to take some amazing photographs of the lake and the sunset. In the afternoon, the owner of the farm took us on a tour of the farmland and then allowed us to pick fruits and vegetables. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a town in Ontario, Canada and we went to visit it on our second day there. While walking along the main street, I saw a couple that were dressed up like people from the old days, which was interesting to see. Another amazing thing that I saw was a monument that listed the names of the people who swam across Ontario Lake. I have been to Niagara Falls in the past but I have never visited it in the evening when everything is lit up. In the evening of our second day there, so majestic, so magical, especially with the fireworks overhead. However, there were too many people visiting Niagara Falls that night. It was too crowded. It gave me a feeling that something big was going to happen and that’s when the fireworks started. No wonder so many people came there that night. The third day we went home. 根据第三段中“In the morning of our first day there, we traveled around the farm. 以及本段中“ In the afternoon, the owner of the farm took us on a tour of the farmland and then allowed us to pick fruits and vegetables.(下午,农场的主人带我们参观了农场,然后允许我们采摘水果和蔬菜。)”;以及根据第四段中“Niagara-on-the-Lake is a town in Ontario, Canada and we went to visit it on our second day there. One of the reasons why so many people listen to music during exercise is that it has a number of benefits. The research about the positive influences of music during exercise was reviewed in a paper in Psychological Bulletin. Probably the biggest influence of music on exercise, based on these findings, is that listening to music during exercise can make you feel better about what you have done. People feel more positively about the exercise when they have listened to music than when they have not. Music also seems to reduce people’s feeling about the intensity (强度) of their workout. Interestingly, it doesn’t seem to matter whether the music is chosen by you or someone else. So, the playlists selected by the teachers of an exercise class you’re taking may work even if you don’t love all of the songs. There are a couple of potential reasons for this. For some people, music helps them to focus their attention on the music rather than on pain or other symptoms of effort. For other people, the content of the music helps. These “associators” would draw inspiration from the song itself through its lyrics or other associations between the song and athletic performance. All of which is to say that music is a performance-enhancer. If music makes you feel better about exercise, you’re more likely to continue your exercise program. Even if you don’t like to compete against other people, it is natural to look for progress in yourself over time. Music can help you to enhance that sense that you’re getting better with practice. 8. Why does the author mention his life habit in paragraph 1? A. To share his personal interest. B. To introduce the topic of a study. C. To carry out a paper writing. D. To set an example for readers. 9. What is the biggest impact of music on exercisers? A. Bringing a better feeling to them. B. Guiding them to perform well in a class. C. Helping decrease their exercise intensity. D. Inspiring them to select a proper sport. 10. How are the reasons for the influence of music described in the text? A. By making comparisons. B. By quoting words of two groups. C. By making exact analysis. D. By asking and answering questions. 11. What may the author suggest people do according to the last paragraph? A. Keep their exercise program. B. Find their progress in exercise. C. Listen to light music regularly. D. Try to exercise with music. B 9. A 10. C 11. 根据第一段“Like many people, I often have music in the background when I exercise. One of the reasons why so many people listen to music during exercise is that it has a number of benefits. The research about the positive influences of music during exercise was reviewed in a paper in Psychological Bulletin. 根据第二段中“Probably the biggest influence of music on exercise, based on these findings, is that listening to music during exercise can make you feel better about what you have done. 故选A项。 根据第三段“There are a couple of potential reasons for this. For some people, music helps them to focus their attention on the music rather than on pain or other symptoms of effort. For other people, the content of the music helps. These “associators” would draw inspiration from the song itself through its lyrics or other associations between the song and athletic performance. 根据最后一段“All of which is to say that music is a performance-enhancer. If music makes you feel better about exercise, you’re more likely to continue your exercise program. Even if you don’t like to compete against other people, it is natural to look for progress in yourself over time. Music can help you to enhance that sense that you’re getting better with practice. D It’s not easy to feel like you’re always under the spotlight being judged for each little mistake you make. Your mind is in an endless circle playing what you said and did over and over again. And you wish you had a time capsule (胶囊) to go back and make things change if you find mistakes. You fear what others will think about you and that they will dislike you. You want to be socially perfect. Academically, you work long endless hours just to make those excellent marks. Although most would say “it’s good to have high standards (标准)”, they have no idea about the internal bell you put yourself through to achieve perfection. If you come up to less than your desired goal, you will feel as though you have failed, but you’re far from failing; you just don’t see it that way. So instead you are telling yourself that you’re stupid, and not smart. The pressure you place on yourself weighs you down and you wear the “not good enough” label each and every day. You not only have high standards for yourself but you also have them for others. If people don’t perform up to your expectations then you will think them not good enough. This causes a lot of frustration because you can’t trust anyone to get things right. So instead of being a team player you fly solo and try to do two or three jobs at once. Your unrealistic expectations cause you to criticize and judge others and that leads to problems in other aspects of your life. The attempt to be perfect is called perfectionism and it’s damaging our emotional and mental health. We fight for perfection of our body, our performance, and our relationships. In a society that overstates mistakes, is it any wonder that so many young people attempt the impossible task of being perfect? We all have fears and make mistakes, and that’s perfectly OK. It’s our imperfections that makes life interesting and they help us grow into a stronger and more adaptable person. We don’t have to achieve the impossible. We are designed to be perfectly imperfect. 12. Where is the text most likely from? A. A diary. B. A novel. C. A magazine. D. A guidebook. 13. Which of the following is a perfectionist most likely to agree? A. Nobody is perfect. B. Be generous with praise. C. There is no best, only better. D. A contented mind is an everlasting feast. 14. What can we infer from Paragraph 4? A. The society plays a role in perfectionism. B. More and more people are making mistakes. C. Many young people find it impossible to be perfect. D. It’s unusual for a society to seek perfectionism nowadays. 15. What does the author think of the imperfection? A. It’s unbearable. B. It`s part of our life. C. It has to be overcome. D. It does harm to our mental health. C 13. C 14. A 15. 在文章中作者剖析了完美主义者的心态,讨论了过度追求完美不仅影响身心健康,而且会因为对别人苛求而产生许多问题,在最后一段“We all have fears and make mistakes, and that’s perfectly OK. It’s our imperfections that makes life interesting and they help us grow into a stronger and more adaptable person. We don’t have to achieve the impossible. We are designed to be perfectly imperfect.(我们都有恐惧,都会犯错,这完全没有关系。 根据第二段中的“If you come up to less than your desired goal, you will feel as though you have failed, but you’re far from failing; you just don’t see it that way. So instead you are telling yourself that you’re stupid, and not smart. The pressure you place on yourself weighs you down and you wear the ‘not good enough’ label each and every day.(如果你没有达到你想要的目标,你会觉得自己失败了,但你远没有失败;你只是不这么看。 你给自己施加的压力让你感到沉重,你每天都戴着‘不够好’的标签)”、第三段中的“You not only have high standards for yourself but you also have them for others. If people don’t perform up to your expectations then you will think them not good enough. 如果人们没有达到你的期望,那么你会认为他们不够好)”以及第四段中的“The attempt to be perfect is called perfectionism and it’s damaging our emotional and mental health. We fight for perfection of our body, our performance, and our relationships. 根据第四段“The attempt to be perfect is called perfectionism and it’s damaging our emotional and mental health. We fight for perfection of our body, our performance, and our relationships. In a society that overstates mistakes, is it any wonder that so many young people attempt the impossible task of being perfect? 故选A。 根据最后一段“We all have fears and make mistakes, and that’s perfectly OK. It’s our imperfections that makes life interesting and they help us grow into a stronger and more adaptable person. We don’t have to achieve the impossible. We are designed to be perfectly imperfect.(我们都有恐惧,都会犯错,这完全没有关系。 The act of making and being a friend is as simple as it is difficult. You don’t have to be interested in just one thing E. You have to listen and notice things about your friend F. We have a few tips for being present and engaged with your friends G. Actually, this advice is based on a well-known theory and some field research 【答案】16. B 17. G 18. A 19. C 20. 【16题详解】 根据下文“It’s a little bit awkward to reach out to somebody you don’t know well—whether that’s sending the first text message or starting small talk in the elevator. But you have to accept it. 【17题详解】 上文“Remember that people will like you more than you think they will. 和下文“Gillian Sandstrom, a senior lecturer in psychology at the University of Essex in the UK, has done research on something called the “liking gap”, which says that the little voice in your head telling you that somebody doesn’t like you very much is wrong. 【18题详解】 根据上文“which says that the little voice in your head telling you that somebody doesn’t like you very much is wrong. 和下文“Instead, remember that when you talk to someone else, you’re actually brightening their day. 故选A。 【19题详解】 根据上文“Invest in activities that you love. Ask anyone about how to make friends and they will most likely tell you to try a new hobby. It might sound empty, but it works. The planet is warming, and there’s so much good television out there to watch. We get it. But if you want to keep your friendships, you have to show up for them. Yesterday, a salesman called me by phone to sell his phone plans, on behalf of a telecommunication company. So I’m writing to turn to you for help。 I’m encountering some problems which trouble me a lot和非限制性I’m always under great stress, which makes it difficult for me to fall asleep every night.由so...that... I have to spend so much time on my homework that I can hardly spare any time to take sports;以及名词从句As a result I can’t focus on what the teacher says in class。 Faced with the above problems, I’m anxious to get your help. 介词的复合结构with the high expectations from the teachers and my parents等。 I worked with a group of junior students. They could only read some materials at the third-grade level. I found it difficult to teach them, and I often felt helpless in trying to tutor (辅导) these kids. They were absent from school every now and then. I tutored them in small groups, but the results were not encouraging. There was another problem — almost no reading materials were suitable for my students at such a low level. They wanted to read about relationships, dating, clothes and cars, not materials like “Run, Spot, run! See the ball.” The kids thought my materials were too babyish. Unfortunately, more interesting materials were too difficult for them to understand. One boy said, “Hey, man, this material is boring. And it’s foolish, too! Why do we get to read this junk One day, an idea suddenly came into my mind: I could raise some money to start a tutoring project. We didn’t get a lot of money, but it was enough for the project. Nearby was a primary school. The third-grade students needed help with reading. I “hired” my students as reading tutors. I promised to pay anyone who’d help with those younger children. “You’ve got to know, that if you don’t show up, you won’t get paid. As a tutor, if you don’t work with care, it will be very disappointing to a young child. And I am sure every one of you will make a good tutor.” All my students agreed to have a try. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As expected, the results were satisfying. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 All my students agreed to have a try. They prepared lessons carefully, selecting simple stories and designing interesting activities. When tutoring, they were patient and enthusiastic, using vivid gestures and humorous language to explain reading content. Gradually, they found the joy of teaching. One girl even said, “I didn’t expect helping others to be so much fun!” They began to understand the importance of reading and learning, and their attitudes towards study changed significantly. As expected, the results were satisfying. The younger students’ reading abilities improved remarkably, and they developed a strong interest in reading. My students, who used to dislike studying, became more motivated. They not only enhanced their own reading skills while tutoring but also gained self-confidence. They were no longer absent-minded in class. The tutoring project not only bridged the reading gap between the two groups of students but also inspired a positive learning atmosphere, showing that sometimes a new approach can bring unexpected good results. 1】They prepared lessons carefully, selecting simple stories and designing interesting activities.(运用了现在分词作伴随状语) 【高分句型 2】The tutoring project not only bridged the reading gap between the two groups of students but also inspired a positive learning atmosphere, showing that sometimes a new approach can bring unexpected good results.(运用了 not only...but also... 1. Just so-so. B. Amazing. C. Disappointing. D. Tiring. 7. What is the passage mainly about? A. The author’s time working on a farm. B. The author’s most unusual experience. C. The author’s happy time with his uncle. D. The author’s trip to Ontario, Canada. C Like many people, I often have music in the background when I exercise. 11 What may the author suggest people do according to the last paragraph? A Keep their exercise program. B. Find their progress in exercise. C. Listen to light music regularly. D. Try to exercise with music. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
