“Mommy, I’m a funny bird,” Jack, my almost-4-year-old tells me. He moves his little fingers like wings.
“You are?” I say. I’m sitting across from him while he eats breakfast at our table. I smile; he says the greatest things. A week ago, however, when he had chocolate on his face and I licked (舔) my finger to wipe it off, he said, “Don’t put your dirty water on me, please.”
A week ago, I wouldn’t have been sitting here with him during breakfast. We always had dinner together at the table, but our other meals got much less attention, because my husband and I were so busy that we had to do the chores during breakfast or lunch.
Why was I not sitting down with my son? It could take Jack an hour to eat a meal, during which I could feel the tug (猛拉) of unanswered emails, a deadline, and the unswept floor each minute.
Then we went to visit friends for a weekend. They have two kids. They’re busy, professional, and good parents. And at every meal — not just dinner — we all sat down at the table and ate. When we got home, my husband said, “Maybe we should be doing that.”
I took this as criticism. My husband works a lot, so mealtimes are mostly under my charge. The “we” he was talking about was me.
Then, I reminded myself that I’m a big girl, and took his comment the way it was meant. We both want what’s best for Jack. Yes, I thought. I’m home. I have to eat, too.
So I’ve been sitting. And, surprise. I haven’t missed a deadline. The house has not become filled with filth and muck. And Jack seems to like having me there. Two days ago, over lunch, he smiled and stared at me.
“What?” I asked, amused.
“Mommy, I love you so much and I can’t stop loving you.”
I could’ve missed that.
God, I could’ve missed that.

Most of us don’t put much thought into the way we smile when we have our picture taken or meet someone new, but a recent study by scientists in the US found that certain types of smiles have a better impact on people than others.
According to the study, having a “good” smile is an important way to present ourselves well to other people. “A lot of people don’t understand how important their smiles are and how important this aspect of communication we do with each other every day is,” said Stephen Guy, a co-author of the research.
But what exactly is a good smile, and how did the scientists come to their conclusion? A group of 802 members of the public, aging from 18 to 82, were shown a 3D animated face. The face displayed different types of smiles, and the subjects were asked to rate them, from “creepy” to “pleasant”.
After analyzing the results, the scientists discovered that the “best” smiles are the ones where the mouth is at an angle of between 13 and 17 degrees, and the mouth isn’t too broad or perfectly straight. In simple terms, don’t smile like a shark if you’re trying to make a good impression.
It’s believed that the findings could be used in a number of ways, including making video game characters appear more realistic. The scientists also hope their work will help doctors who are trying to restore facial movement to patients who have suffered from strokes or other conditions.
But Guy pointed out that nobody should feel bad if they don’t match up to his study’s definition of perfection. “It is important to be clear that there is not just one really, really good smile,” he said. “Just because your smile is different…doesn’t mean it is in any way bad.”
46. The scientists’ conclusion is supported by ________.
A. professional research that was conducted B. questionnaires collected by researchers
C theories that have been proved D. experiments that were carried out in the past
47. What can we learn about a good smile according to the study?
A. The broader your mouth is, the better your smile will be.
B. There is no good smile at all.
C. It has something to do with the angle of your mouth.
D. The smile is bad if it doesn’t match up to the definition of perfection.
48. To which aspect can we apply the scientists’ findings?
A. Bringing facial movement back. B. Curing severe strokes.
C. Solving all kinds of problems. D. Playing video games.
49. What can be inferred from the passage about the study on smiles?
A. It aims to establish a universal standard for smiling.
B. It acknowledges the diversity of smiles while providing guidelines.
C. It primarily focuses on the medical applications of smiling.
D. It has been widely accepted by the public.

第四部分:写作(共两节,满分35分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读表达
Just over a year ago, my iPhone was lost. My first thought was to replace it. But I stopped myself and asked a question: Does owning a smartphone make my life better, or worse? I decided to try living for a time without a smartphone. So I bought an old, $30 phone and began my life without smartphone.
One day after I made the switch, my wife, daughter and I were in Washington visiting a museum. By afternoon, I started acting like a true addict. I used my wife’s smartphone to check Gmail. The beginning rush of seeing so many unread emails was spoiled (破坏) by a work-related message. For the next half-hour or so, I walked around thinking about that message instead of being present at the museum. I was physically there, but my mind was focused on work.
The most immediate advantage of not owning a smartphone, I quickly learned, is the ability to immerse yourself in social situations. Without a smartphone to look at, you don’t have much of a choice but to be present, and other people—whether it’s a colleague or a stranger on social media—can’t enter your life easily at inconvenient times. So I made my short-term experiment permanent.
Do I miss Google Maps? Kind of, but I’ve also discovered that not having it makes driving safer. I now check a map before I leave the house and write down basic directions. This keeps me focused on the road rather than the phone. If I get lost, it’s nice to ask people for directions. On the subject of money: My phone bill is now down to $30 a month. I have no data plan, no expensive phone to make payments on, no apps to buy. All of these come from not using a smartphone.
51. Why did the author buy the old phone?(no more than 10 words)

【答案】51. To live without a smartphone.
52. He used his wife’s smartphone.

【55题详解】
考查阅读表达。根据第一段“I decided to try living for a time without a smartphone. So I bought an old, $30 phone and began my life without smartphone.(我决定试着在一段时间内不使用智能手机生活。所以我买了一部30美元的旧手机,开始了没有智能手机的生活)”、第二段“The beginning rush of seeing so many unread emails was spoiled (破坏) by a work-related message. Balancing their use is key to maximizing their benefits while minimizing drawbacks.

【答案】Dear Jack
I’m really sorry to hear that you are addicted to short videos and can’t get out of it. I understand your situation and I’m concerned about you.
Being addicted to short videos can have many negative effects. Firstly, it wastes a lot of your precious time, which could be used for more meaningful and productive activities like reading or exercising. Secondly, it can harm your eyesight and physical health if you spend too much time looking at the screen. Moreover, constantly watching short videos may reduce your ability to focus and concentrate on important tasks.
To get rid of this addiction, I suggest you set a specific time limit for yourself each day for watching short videos. Another effective way is to keep your phone away from you when you don’t need it.
I believe you have the strength and determination to overcome this addiction. Hope you can get back to a healthy and productive lifestyle soon.
Yours,
Li Jin

It could take Jack an hour to eat a meal during which I could feel the tug (猛拉) of unanswered emails, a deadline, and the unswept floor each minute.
Then we went to visit friends for a weekend. They have two kids. They’re busy, professional, and good parents. And at every meal — not just dinner — we all sat down at the table and ate. When we got home, my husband said, “Maybe we should be doing that.”
I took this as criticism. My husband works a lot so mealtimes are mostly under my charge.

C. theories that have been proved D. experiments that were carried out in the past
50. What could be the best title for the passage?
A. What Are the Benefits of Smiling? B. Why Is Smiling Important?
C. What Are the Different Ways of Smiling? D. What’s a Good Smile?

Just over a year ago, my iPhone was lost. My first thought was to replace it. But I stopped myself and asked a question: Does owning a smartphone make my life better, or worse? I decided to try living for a time without a smartphone. So I bought an old, $30 phone and began my life without smartphone.
One day after I made the switch my wife, daughter and I were in Washington visiting a museum.
