I love Chinese martial arts (武术) and have been learning Wudang martial arts in China for ages. Unlike the fighting you see in movies, the spirit of Chinese martial arts is to help the weak without fear of the strong. I first came up with the idea of studying Chinese martial arts in 2008. When I was 20 years old, I came to China and learned from my master (师傅) in the Wudang Mountains in 2010. Every day, I would wake up early and start my lessons. I would run before breakfast and after dinner. Then I would practice qigong, which is a special kind of exercise that helps me feel calm and focused. After lunch, I would learn how to fight. The training was hard and sometimes I wanted to stop it. But I kept going because I knew I could really get a lot from it and it was important to work hard because no one could succeed easily. Living in China and learning about Chinese culture was fun. I am really interested in Chinese culture, so while I was learning martial arts, I also learned about Taoism (道教). It teaches us how to achieve (实现) peace of mind. I have grown so much since I started learning Wudang martial arts. It has taught me about physical moves and helped me become a better person. It was an important experience for me. I will keep practicing and spreading the magic of martial arts everywhere I go. 29. Which story can show the spirit of Chinese martial arts? A. But I kept going because I knew I can really get a lot from it and it was important to work hard”可知,Jack在武当山的训练很艰苦,但他认为能从中收获很多,觉得这段经历很重要。 故选A。 根据文章第二段中“Then I would practice qigong, which is a special kind of exercise that helps me feel calm and focused”以及第四段中“while I was learning martial arts, I also learned about Taoism (道教). But lately, she’s been hanging out with a new girl. They make up reasons why I can’t be with them. I like my friend and don’t want to lose her. Super Child Dear Super Child, You don’t need to worry too much about it. Maybe your friend just needs some time to explore (探索) other friendships. If you really are true friends, she will come back to you in the end. Try to write a note explaining how you feel and pass it on to her. Sometimes, it’s easier to put our feelings down in words. The same thing happened to me when I was at high school. My best friend and I were always together from the first day of school. We used to sit next to each other and have lunch together every day. But a few years later, we both met new groups of friends and saw less and less of each other. This is natural and happens to all of us—young and old. At the same time, try not to think about it, as it will only make you feel more upset. Instead, focus on your schoolwork or any hobbies that you have. What about joining in some after-school activities? Not only will you get to learn new skills, but you’re also sure to meet some new friends. Dale 32. What does the underlined phrase “make up” mean? Maybe you fought with your brother over what to watch on TV. Or perhaps you tried to explain to your parents that playing computer games can really make you study better later. How did your disagreements (分歧) end? In fact, disagreements are part of life. After all, everyone has different opinions (看法). We all have past experiences that develop the way how we see the world. Still, not all disagreements are bad. In fact, many people look at them as chances to learn. They do so by trying to understand where both sides are coming from. How can you understand both sides of a disagreement? In a disagreement, asking for more information can help you learn about a person’s opinions. The right questions can also help us learn about other people. It can also lead you to knowing more facts. This can paint a better picture of the problem. It’s also important to know the difference between facts and opinions. Remember, facts are true information. Opinions can change from person to person. Disagreements may make you feel embarrassed at first. However, when both sides truly try to understand each other, they often find they have more in common than they thought. The next time you disagree with other people, try asking them questions about their opinions. You never know what you might learn. 36. How does the writer develop the first paragraph? A. By telling a story. B. By giving numbers. C. By taking examples. D. By comparing two things. 37. What can we know from Paragraph 2? A. All disagreements are bad. B. Our ages help us build the way we think. C. Everyone has the same opinions as others’. D. Many people look at disagreements as chances. 38. What can we do to understand both sides of a disagreement? A. Ask questions. B. Paint a picture. C. Call others at once. D. Write your opinions down. 39. What may people think of a disagreement at first? A. Interesting. B. Relaxing. C. Surprising. D. Embarrassed. 40. What is the best title for the text? A. How to Deal with Disagreements B. Where Disagreements Come from C. Why to Understand Disagreements D. When Facts and Opinions Are Different 【答案】36. C 37. D 38. A 39. D 40. 根据第一段中“Maybe you fought with your brother over what to watch on TV. Or perhaps you tried to explain to your parents that playing computer games can really make you study better later.” 根据第二段中“Still, not all disagreements are bad. In fact, many people look at them as chances to learn.” 根据第三段中“How can you understand both sides of a disagreement? In a disagreement, asking for more information can help you learn about a person’s opinions. The right questions can also help us learn about other people.” 故选A。 根据第四段中“Disagreements may make you feel embarrassed at first.” 故选A。 Ⅷ. What subject do you worry about the most at school? Many students worry about maths. Some students can’t sleep well the day before a maths exam. Others may feel very nervous during the exam itself. But there might be a way to make the subject less stressful “For people who are worried about maths, posture (姿势) makes a big difference,” Erik Peper from San Francisco State University told the Daily Mail. That’s right—sitting up straight can help you do better on maths exams. Scientists tested 125 college students. They asked them to do a simple maths exam while sitting in a slumped-over (无精打采的) posture, or sitting up straight. After the test, 70 students said the exam was easier to do if they were sitting up straight. “Slumping over is a defensive (戒备的) posture. It can cause bad memories in the body and brain. This can stop you from thinking clearly,” Peper said. Students who were not nervous about taking the maths exam did not necessarily benefit (受益) from better posture. But they did find that doing maths while slumped over was more difficult, Science Daily reported. Good posture isn’t just helpful for taking maths exams. Sports people, musicians and public speakers can all benefit from better posture. When you feel stressed, you can also try to sit up straight or stand tall. It can help you feel more certain and focus better. 41. ________ students in the test benefited from the better posture. 42. A. Helping people to achieve peace. C. Encouraging people to help the weak. D. Teaching people about physical moves. C Dear Dale, My friend and I made a promise (承诺) to be best friends forever. To show his agreement with Super Child. C. To make Super Child feel easy about friendship. D. To encourage Super Child to explore a new friendship. D Think of the last time you didn’t agree with another person. A. 42.
