Over the past 20 years, more and more research has pointed to quality social relationships as being a major determinant of both physical and mental (身心的) health over time. In one well-known study, researchers found that feeling lonely for a long time can be even more dangerous than smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
The reasons behind this connection are still not entirely clear. And first and foremost is the problem of correlation (关联) versus causation. Most studies on social connections and health are observational, meaning they can only show that two things happen together, not necessarily that one causes the other. For example, people with health problems may have poorer social relationships, but it’s also possible that new variables at play influence both social relationships and physical health.
Despite this, it’s likely that social relationships can help protect and improve physical health. One idea being studied is the effect of social connections on inflammation (炎症). New research, published in Brain, Behavior, and Immunity, shows a strong connection between social relationships and biological markers like inflammation and, in fact, the aging process itself.
In this study, characteristics of more than 2,000 middle-aged adults in the United States were observed. The researchers used a measure called Cumulative Social Advantage (CSA), which looks at a person’s level of social support in areas like family, communities, and emotional support. It turns out that there was a significant correlation between CSA and biological aging: The higher the social advantage, the slower the aging, and the lower the inflammation.
Although this is still a correlational study and can’t prove cause and effect, it points to the idea that strong social relationships might lead to better physical health. People with good social connections might have lower blood pressure, stronger immune systems, and better overall health.
This study further supports the idea that building and maintaining friendships is just as important as eating well and exercising for a healthy life.

推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Most studies on social connections and health are observational, meaning they can only show that two things happen together, not necessarily that one causes the other. For example, people with health problems may have poorer social relationships, but it’s also possible that new variables at play influence both social relationships and physical health.(大多数关于社会关系与健康的研究都属于观察性研究,这意味着这类研究只能证明两个现象同时存在,却不一定能证明二者存在因果关系。例如,健康状况不佳的人可能拥有质量较差的社会关系,但也有可能存在某些潜在变量,同时影响着社会关系与身体健康。)”可知,作者举例子是为了说明研究中“关联不等于因果关系”的问题,即研究者面临的挑战。故选A。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“It turns out that there was a significant correlation between CSA and biological aging: The higher the social advantage, the slower the aging, and the lower the inflammation.(结果表明,累积社会优势(CSA)与生物衰老之间存在显著关联:社会优势越高,衰老越慢,炎症水平越低。)”可知,最新研究发现CSA可能与一个人的衰老有关。故选C。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“Over the past 20 years, more and more research has pointed to quality social relationships as being a major determinant of both physical and mental (身心的) health over time.(在过去的20年里,越来越多的研究表明,随着时间的推移,高质量的社会关系是身心健康的主要决定因素。)”可知,文章开篇点明社会关系是身心健康的重要决定因素,中间通过研究探讨社会关系与健康的关联,在最后一段“This study further supports the idea that building and maintaining friendships is just as important as eating well and exercising for a healthy life.(这项研究进一步支持了建立和维持友谊与健康饮食和锻炼对健康生活同样重要的观点。)”作者强调“建立和维持友谊对健康生活至关重要”。所以C选项“牢固的社会关系可能改善整体健康”精准概括核心内容,适合用作标题。故选C。
D
“Rubbish is immortal,” wrote Czech author Ivan Klima in his novel Love and Garbage. “What else is there that is so indestructible?” And even as we make the world into a greener place by embracing renewable energy, the problem of how to deal with waste remains a difficult one to solve.
The thing is, renewable energy tools like wind turbines (涡轮机) do a lot of good, but they also need replacing and recycling when they get old. Many of the parts can be melted down and used again, but this comes at a cost to the environment, because the process produces carbon emissions. Luckily, experts have been working on ways to use these giant turbines again at the end of their lives.
Old blades (叶片) have been used as noise barriers next to roads, as bike sheds, and as children’s playground equipment. And some of the stems — or nacelles, as the parts that contain the engines are known-have even been used for housing.
Last year, a Swedish energy company called Vattenfall and Dutch firm Blade-Made worked together to create a tiny home made from a decommissioned turbine. Shown during Dutch Design Week in 2024, it’s 4 meters wide, 10 meters long and 3 meters high and according to CNN is “surprisingly light and airy” thanks to glass doors at either end. Crucially, it also agreed with Dutch building rules.
But with more and more turbines expected to be replaced in the coming years, could they really help to solve housing crises? Jos de Krieger is a co-founder of Blade-Made, and he says, “Why not?” His company, along with its collaborators, is planning to create 10 tiny homes using turbines. He told CNN that making old turbines into homes is “the most complex thing you can do,” but now it’s been done, anything is possible. “We need solutions,” he said, adding that he wants to “create stories, instead of waste.” Klima would surely approve.
32. What aspect of wind turbines does the passage focus on?
A. Their high cost of production. B. Their new uses after retirement.
C. Their role in reducing carbon emissions. D. Their contribution to greener housing.
33. How can old turbine blades be dealt with?
A. Burned for fuel. B. Used as road barriers.
C. Thrown away safely. D. Applied as playing facilities.
34. What does the word “decommissioned” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Out-of-use. B. Up-to-date. C. Very expensive. D. Fully repaired.
35. What can we infer from Jos de Krieger’s words?
A. He needs to create stories for Bland-Made.
B. He does the job to win approval from Klima.
C. He has doubts about whether the idea will work.
D. He hopes to expand the business in turbine houses.
【答案】32. B 33. D 34. A 35. D

【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Old blades have been used as noise barriers next to roads, as bike sheds, and as children’s playground equipment.(旧叶片已被用作道路旁的隔音屏障、自行车棚以及儿童游乐设施。)”可知,旧涡轮机叶片可被用作游乐设施。故选D项。
【34题详解】

【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据尾段中的“Jos de Krieger is a co-founder of Blade-Made, and he says, “Why not?” His company, along with its collaborators, is planning to create 10 tiny homes using turbines. (Jos de Krieger是Blade-Made公司的联合创始人,他说:“为什么不呢?”他的公司正与其合作伙伴计划用涡轮机建造10座小房子。)”可知,Jos de Krieger希望扩大用涡轮机建造房屋的业务。故选D项。

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I still remember the incident on our 10th wedding anniversary. After a lovely dinner date with my husband, we drove home as midnight approached. On our way home, I had been expecting my naughty son, Jack, hadn’t messed up our home. After all, tidying up the house in the middle of the night was a pretty annoying task.
As we unlocked the door quietly, Jack turned on the lights dramatically and shouted: “Ta-daaa!” He gestured grandly toward the kitchen table, where a slightly off-balance chocolate cake awaited our inspection. But I never made it all the way to the table.
I glanced past him, and felt down instantly. The kitchen was in complete chaos: cocoa powder spotted the refrigerator door, a spoon lay forgotten in the box, and milk spread on the floor. Mixing bowls were caked with sticky butter, and flour dusted the counter like snow.
“How many times have I told you not to make a mess?” I shouted angrily, “The whole kitchen is a disaster. I can’t bear to look at it!” Jack’s smile faded, and his shoulders slumped. “Mom, I just wanted to…” he tried to explain, but I cut him off sharply. “Save it. You’ll clean every bit of this up first thing tomorrow,” I said coldly, storming up the stairs and shutting the bedroom door with all my strength, leaving my husband and son frozen there.
I threw myself on the bed. The image of the messy kitchen kept replaying in my mind — knocked-over milk, flour everywhere. I muttered to myself, “That boy never listens. Why can’t he just keep things tidy for once?” I pulled the quilt over my head, trying to block out the frustration, but my mind wandered to how many times I’d cleaned up after Jack’s mischief (调皮捣蛋), and I felt myself getting angrier and angrier. “Should I help him clean up again this time?” I thought.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Just then, my husband came in. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Looking at tearful Jack, I walked over and hugged him tightly. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Just then, my husband came in. He sat behind me gently, his voice soft, “Jack spent the whole afternoon making that cake for our anniversary. It was his surprise for us.” As I listened, I pictured an 8-year-old boy making a cake in the kitchen. I was moved to tears, and at the same time, I felt regretful for being so hard on him just now. I turned to my husband, and he seemed to have understood me. He gently pulled me up and walked down stairs with me.
Looking at tearful Jack, I walked over and hugged him tight. “I’m so sorry, baby,” I whispered, tapping his back. Jack buried his face in my shoulder, crying. I kissed his forehead and said, “It’s the sweetest gift ever.” Once he settled down, we entered the kitchen. The mess there didn’t catch my attention. Instead, the off-balance chocolate cake did. “Happy 10th anniversary!” Jack said joyfully. That night left me a deep impression not only due to the cake full of love but also due to the lesson I learned: Behind a child’s imperfection, there may lie a precious intention. Parents need to treasure their children’s every little gesture.

A friendship spanning over 20 years has culminated (达到顶点) in an epic journey for two senior women. Ellie Hamby. 84. from Abilene, Texas, and Dr. Sandy Hazelip, 84, from Eastland, Texas, have proven that adventure knows no age limit. They shared their intention to travel the world together in a TikTok video—and, more importantly, how they made it happen.
Hamby and Hazelip’s travels have taken them nearly everywhere. “We’ve been to all seven continents, most of the world’s wonders and to almost 50 countries,” Hamby said. “The best highlights aren’t just about the places. but it’s about the people we met along the journey.” And their journeys have not been without moments of excitement, including a trip on the Trans-Siberian Railway and a trip to the Middle East in 2011 where they “found ourselves in the Syrian desert when the war started.” Their most-recent senior travel adventure, the around-the-world-in-80-days trip, was done in 80 consecutive days.
Hamby and Hazelip said they had no idea their travels would turn them into social-media sensations, but they now get recognized in airports after a TikTok video received over 6 million views. “Never in our wildest dreams did we think something like this would ever happen to us,” the friends said.
Now that Hamby and Hazelip have realized the joy and inspiration they have provided to others, they are dedicated to sharing their message of friendship and adventure. For those who may feel it is too late to live out their dreams, Hamby and Hazelip made a good model. The friends even penned a new book, Here We Go—Lessons for Living Fearlessly From Two Traveling Nanas, serving as a road map to living fully, no matter what your age. “We realized the world needed to hear our message of friendship,” Hazelip said. “Living fearlessly and fully, loving thosc who cross our paths and opening our hearts to this big, wonderful world.”

C
28. What can be inferred about lonely individuals according to the text?
A. They tend to do workouts regularly.
B. They may experience higher health risks.
C. They can easily fall into a bad habit.
D. They are more likely to lead a healthy life
29. Why does the author mention the example in paragraph 2?
A. To illustrate the challenges facing researchers.
B. To argue that smoking is worse than loneliness.
C. To explain how loneliness directly affects aging.
D. To suggest that health problems cause loneliness.
30. What does the recent study find about CSA?
A. It develops based on our intelligence.
B. It has a side effect on people’s character.
C. It might be connected to one’s aging.
D. It measures the level of social media use.
31. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Friendships are More Important Than Exercise
B. Your Health is a Reflection of Your Personality
C. Strong Social Ties May Improve Overall Health
D. Family Support Greatly Impacts on Mental Health

第二节(满分25分)
