The three-month-old had got her tail caught in the ropes of an abandoned crab trap. Jim knew that if he left her, the dolphin would have little chance of survival. He cut her free and got in contact with the authorities. She was taken to Clear water Marine Aquarium, but her injuries were so severe that she lost her tail. The aquarium staff named the baby dolphin Winter and she gradually learned how to swim again. Unfortunately, because of the way she was moving in the water without her tail, she was in danger of developing a problem with her spine (脊椎). Kevin Carroll and Dan Strzempka, who ran a company making artificial limbs, heard about the problem and had a brilliant idea. Kevin and Dan told the staff at the aquarium that they would make an artificial (人造) tail for Winter! There were a lot of challenges that Kevin and Dan had to deal with along the way, like trying to fit an artificial tail on a playful young dolphin that doesn’t want to stay still! It took over fifty prototypes (模型) and a year and a half before Winter finally got her new 30-inch tail. After seeing her swim with it for the first time, Kevin said that the months of hard work had been truly worth it. Making the tail was only half the story, though. For Winter to be able to swim properly, the artificial tail needed to be held in place without damaging her skin. Specialists came up with a soft material that firmly holds the skin and doesn’t hurt. Designed especially for Winter, this material was so successful that “WintersGel” is now being used to make artificial limbs more comfortable for people with false arms and legs all around the world. In 2011 the tale (故事) was made into a film, “Dolphin Tale”, starring Winter herself. It’s about a dolphin that would have died, but survived because a few people cared. 4. What do we know about Jim? A. He worked at an aquarium. B. He freed a dolphin from a trap. C. He injured a dolphin accidentally. D. He kept a baby dolphin for three months. 5. What did Kevin and Dan decide to do according to paragraph 2? A. Teach Winter to swim. B. Set up a branch company. C Help straighten Winter’s spine. D. Make a man-made tail for Winter. 6. Which of the following words can best describe Kevin and Dan’s work in paragraph 3? A. Dangerous. B. Imaginative. C. Interesting. D. Difficult. 7. What could be the best title for the text? A. A tale of a tail. B. A lesson from a dolphin. C. An important survival skill. D. A chance encounter with a dolphin. B 5. D 6. D 7. 由文章第一段中“Jim Savage was setting out for a day’s fishing off the Florida coast when he heard the cries of a baby dolphin in trouble. The three-month-old had got her tail caught in the ropes of an abandoned crab trap. Jim knew that if he left her, the dolphin would have little chance of survival. He cut her free and got in contact with the authorities. (Jim Savage在佛罗里达海岸出海捕鱼时,听到了一只小海豚陷入困境的哭声。这个三个月大的小海豚的尾巴被一个废弃的捕蟹器的绳子缠住了。吉姆知道,如果他离开她,这只海豚几乎没有生存的机会。他割断了她的绳子,并与当局取得了联系。)”可知,他把一只海豚从捕蟹器中救了出来。故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。由文章第二段中“Kevin and Dan told the staff at the aquarium that they would make an artificial (人造的) tail for Winter! (Kevin和Dan告诉水族馆的工作人员,他们将为Winter做一条人造尾巴!)”可知,Kevin和Dan决定为Winter做一条人造尾巴。故选D。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。由文章第三段“There were a lot of challenges that Kevin and Dan had to deal with along the way, like trying to fit an artificial tail on a playful young dolphin that doesn’t want to stay still! It took over fifty prototypes (模型) and a year and a half before Winter finally got her new 30-inch tail. After seeing her swim with it for the first time, Kevin said that the months of hard work had been truly worth it. 通读全文,尤其是由文章第四段中“Making the tail was only half the story, though. For Winter to be able to swim properly, the artificial tail needed to be held in place without damaging her skin. Specialists came up with a soft material that firmly holds the skin and doesn’t hurt. (不过,制造尾巴只是故事的一半。为了让温特能够正常游泳,人工尾巴需要固定到位,同时不损害她的皮肤。专家们想出了一种柔软的材料,它能牢牢地抓住皮肤,不会受伤。)”可知,文章主要讲述了人们救助一条小海豚,并最终为海豚安上一条人造尾巴的故事。选项A“A tale of a tail. (一个关于尾巴的故事)”能够概括文章主旨,适合作为最佳标题。故选A。 C A small device no bigger than a toaster has generated oxygen on the surface of Mars, bringing the chances of surviving on the red planet a step closer. The Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilisation Experiment, better known as Moxie, has been generating oxygen from the atmosphere on Mars rich in carbon dioxide, as part of NASA’s Perseverance rover mission, which began in February last year. Research published in the journal-Science-Advances reported that Moxie produced breathable oxygen in seven hour-long tests conducted in various weather and atmospheric conditions since landing last year. The research found that during each test and even in extreme temperatures or after a Martian dust storm, Moxie continued to produce high-purity oxygen. The device uses pumps that suck in carbon dioxide. The gas is heated to 800℃ and separates the carbon and oxygen. Carbon monoxide is emitted as waste while the pure oxygen is left behind. “This is the first demonstration of actually using resources on the surface of Mars and transforming them chemically into something that would be useful for a human mission,” Jeffrey Hoffman said. Hoffman, a retired astronaut and a professor at MIT aeronautics department, also noted that the results were “groundbreaking and historic.” NASA and the MIT team are planning to build a bigger version of Moxie. They hope advanced models will produce enough oxygen to support a crewed mission to Mars and generate the gas needed to send a rocket back to Earth. “To support a human mission to Mars we have to bring a lot of stuff from Earth.” Hoffman said. “But dumb old oxygen? If you can make it there, go for it. You’re way ahead of the game.” The thin atmosphere on Mars is 96 percent carbon dioxide and much more mutable than on Earth. Hoffman said, “One objective now is to show we can run Moxie in all seasons.” 8. What can we learn about Moxie in this passage? A. It fails in the seven-hour long test. B. It performs worse in extreme weather. C. It can improve the chance of survival on Moon. D. It can produce oxygen from the atmosphere on Mars. 9. What’s the attitude towards the test results of Moxie according to Hoffman? A. Negative. B. Positive. C. Indifferent. D. Unclear. 10. What is the purpose of building a bigger Moxie? A. To make Moxie more advanced. B. To take a lead in this field. C. To guarantee the need of oxygen. D. To avoid bringing much stuff. 11. Where can the text be found? A. In a biography. B. In a science fiction. C. In a science magazine. D. In chemistry textbooks. D 9. B 10. C 11. 通过第一段“better known as Moxie, has been generating oxygen from the atmosphere on Mars(它被称为Moxie,一直在从火星的大气中产生氧气)”可知,Moxie可以从火星的大气中产生氧气。 通过第四段“They hope advanced models will produce enough oxygen to support a crewed mission to Mars and generate the gas needed to send a rocket back to Earth.(他们希望先进的模型能够产生足够的氧气来支持载人火星任务,并产生将火箭送回地球所需的气体)”可知,建立更大的设备是为了确保载人太空任务往返火星与地球的过程中氧气充足。 根据文章第一段“A small device no bigger than a toaster has generated oxygen on the surface of Mars, bringing the chances of surviving on the red planet a step closer. (一个和烤面包机差不多大的小装置在火星表面产生了氧气,使在这颗红色星球上生存的机会又近了一步)”可知,文章介绍了一个有关太空探索的设备。所以这篇文章可以在一本科学杂志上找到。故选C。 D We’ve all experienced the sudden urge to check our phone, and a new study from Duke University might explain why. The research suggests that this isn’t just a bad habit, but rather that our smartphones might be reshaping our brain’s reward system, making us seek information in a way similar to how we seek food or money. The study involved people playing a simple game where they had to choose between different symbols that offered certain chances of receiving a reward. The rewards were either money, the opportunity to learn a random piece of information (like a fun fact), or nothing. Meanwhile, the participants’ brain activity was monitored using FMRI scans. The results were striking. The researchers found that the brain’s dopamine-rich reward centers, particularly the vmPFC (前额叶皮层), became active when participants were expecting both monetary rewards and informational rewards. This suggests that our brains process the opportunity to gain new information as a valuable reward itself. The desire for information followed a classic “law of demand” — the more expensive (in terms of effort or cost) it was to get information, the less people sought it, just like any other product. “This finding helps explain the ‘checking’ behavior we see with smartphones,” said the study’s lead author. “Each time we slide down to refresh our news feed or check updates, we are essentially seeking a small piece of new information. Our brain perceives this information as having potential value, releasing dopamine (多巴胺) that makes the action feel rewarding, even if the information itself is unimportant.” The researchers believe this insight is crucial for understanding modern behaviors. It indicates that the appeal of digital platforms is not merely about social connection but taps into a fundamental biological mechanism. However, they also warn that this cycle, if left unchecked, could contribute to problematic internet use, as the brain gets caught in a continuous circle of seeking minor informational rewards. 12. How does the author introduce his topic? A. By presenting a personal experience. B By describing a common daily behavior. C. By quoting a famous philosopher’s saying. D. By comparing ancient and modern human behaviors. 13. The author mentions the “FMRI scans” in Paragraph 2 mainly to ________. A. emphasize the high cost of the scientific research B. describe the physical experience of the participants C. provide objective evidence for the study’s conclusions D. explain the complex technology used in modern psychology 14. What does the “law of demand” in Paragraph 3 indicate ? A. The harder it is to get information, the less people want it. B. People always want more information regardless of the cost. C. The value of information decreases as it becomes easier to get. D. Information is the most valuable product in the modern world. 15. What is the potential risk of the brain’s reward system for information? A. It could slow down our thinking process. B. It might end up with too much screen time. C. It can damage our brain’s fundamental structure. D. It will prevent us from learning essential knowledge. B 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第一段中的“We’ve all experienced the sudden urge to check our phone, and a new study from Duke University might explain why.(我们都有过突然想查看手机的冲动,杜克大学的一项新研究或许能解释原因。)” 根据第二段中的“Meanwhile, the participants’brain activity was monitored using FMRI scans.(同时,研究人员通过功能磁共振成像扫描监测参与者的大脑活动。)”及第三段“The results were striking. The researchers found that the brain’s dopamine-rich reward centers, particularly the vmPFC (前额叶皮层), became active when participants were expecting both monetary rewards and informational rewards. This suggests that our brains process the opportunity to gain new information as a valuable reward itself.(研究结果令人震惊。研究人员发现,当参与者期待金钱奖励和信息奖励时,大脑中富含多巴胺的奖励中枢 —— 尤其是腹内侧前额叶皮层(vmPFC)会变得活跃。这表明,我们的大脑会将获取新信息的机会本身视为一种有价值的奖励来处理)”可知,提及FMRI扫描是为了给研究结论提供客观的科学依据。故选C项。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“The desire for information followed a classic “law of demand” — the more expensive (in terms of effort or cost) it was to get information, the less people sought it, just like any other product.(对信息的渴望遵循经典的“需求定律”——获取信息的成本越高(无论是精力还是代价),人们寻求信息的意愿就越低,就像其他任何产品一样。)” 故选A项。 根据最后一段中的“However, they also warn that this cycle, if left unchecked, could contribute to problematic internet use, as the brain gets caught in a continuous circle of seeking minor informational rewards.(然而,他们也警告说,如果不加控制,这种循环可能会导致有问题的互联网使用,因为大脑会陷入持续寻求微小信息奖励的循环中。)” Soon you’ll be done with the stresses of high school. I was out ___21___ my dog in the neighborhood when the leash (皮带) suddenly slipped from my hand. In the rush to ___22___ the running pet, I didn’t notice my key chain falling from my pocket. That small but ___23___ item held everything: my house key, mail key, and most critically, my car key. When I returned home and reached for my pocket, panic hit me — they were gone. I rushed back to the path, ___24___ every bush and corner anxiously. After an hour of fruitless ___25___, I felt totally defeated. I dragged myself back, feeling ___26___ and helpless. At home again, I pulled the backup key from its hiding place, let myself in the house, and fell on the couch in ___27___. Though I had an extra house key, the mail key was a big deal. What’s worse, my spare car key was unstable, and the key fob would be expensive to replace. That evening, it turned colder, and I was sitting on the sofa ___28___ in bad thoughts when my car suddenly lit up and beeped loudly. I jumped up and ran downstairs to turn it off, but ten minutes later, the noise started again. After this ___29___ several times, I grew worried — my neighbors would surely get annoyed and might come ___30___ about the disturbance. Just as I was pacing with anxiety, the doorbell rang. I opened the door to see a stranger holding my key chain. “Are these yours?” he asked with a smile. I nodded ___31___, too surprised to speak. We’re not allowed to call her Gran, because she says it makes her feel old. That summer, I lost my job and felt hopeless and down all time. One day, I paid a visit to her. She picked up a box on the coffee table. “There you go,” she said. “You do know what you’re doing with these things, don’t you?” It was a new phone. Her current mobile was pretty ancient. I was amazed it was still going. “Yes,” I said. “Good. That’s why I ask you. You young people know more about such things than us oldies. You can take it home with you and get it all set up,” she went on. “Then, when you bring it back, you can show me how to use my new phone, such as getting on the Internet, sending e-mails and so on.” She smiled so sweetly that I felt a surge of love for her. I grabbed the box and stood up. Setting up the phone was easy. It was teaching her how to use it that proved challenging. The following day I headed back to my great-grandmother’s with the phone. “Here’s your phone. It’s all ready to use.” For the following hours, I was busy setting up her passcode (密码) and fingerprint recognition, which she said was like something out of James Bond. She chose a picture for her screen and it was all going so well until I tried to show her how to swipe “What do you mean, swipe?” she asked. She was 92, I reminded myself. This had been tiring for her. She pressed at the screen and got annoyed when nothing happened. When I finally got her to swipe, she didn’t put the right amount of pressure and the menu slipped away. After what seemed like hours, she threw the phone across the room and it landed on the sofa. “Take it away!” she cried. “I want my old phone back!” I was about to leave to give her time to cool down when I realized I didn’t want to go home while she was angry and upset. “Come on, Eileen. One more try.” I said.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With the excitement , Eileen kept on practicing her new phone and experimenting with every possible new app over the next few weeks.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】“Come on, Eileen. One more try.” I said. “No,” Eileen insisted, “I just want my old phone back! ”, heading to retrieve (拿回) her repaired device. Gathering my patience, I stepped forward, hugged my Gran and gently explained that the old phone, just like an antique, was incapable of providing internet access or sending emails. “Please let go of the old one, and embrace the brand-new world.” I encouraged her. Empowered by my words, she mustered the courage to give it one more shot. Smoothly and magically, through the fingerprint recognition, this time, she swiped with the right amount of pressure and located the email app on the menu. She finally got the hang of it. With the excitement, Eileen kept on practicing her new phone and experimenting with every possible new app over the next few weeks. More surprisingly, one day, a newly received e-mail blew me away, it reading “Please let go of the old job, just embrace another new opportunity.” The knowing (会意的) chuckle from my wise grandmother confirmed what I already knew deep down. The familiar yet powerful words lifted the weight from my shoulders, motivating me to seek out a better career. How wise and strong my grandmother was! The words kept echoing in my mind ever since. Even now, I am constantly reminded of the transformative experience, where I got the lesson— Out with the old, in with the new! 词汇激活: 行为类 拥抱:hug/embrace 掌握:get the hang of/master 寻找:seek out/search for 情绪类 如释重负:lift the weight from my shoulders/make me relieved 令人惊讶地:surprisingly/astonishingly 【点睛】【高分句型1】 Gathering my patience, I stepped forward, hugged my Gran and gently explained that the old phone, just like an antique, was incapable of providing internet access or sending emails.(运用了现在分词作状语以及that引导宾语从句) 【高分句型2】 The knowing (会意的) chuckle from my wise grandmother confirmed what I already knew deep down.(运用了what引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 四川省达川中学高2027届2025年秋季第二次月考 英 语 试 题 (满分150分,考试时间120分钟) 第I卷 第一部分:听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共 5 小题;每小题 1.5 分,满分 7.5 分) 听下面 5 段对话。 How much is the shirt? B Jim Savage was setting out for a day’s fishing off the Florida coast when he heard the cries of a baby dolphin in trouble. Kevin and Dan told the staff at the aquarium that they would make an artificial (人造的) tail for Winter! C. Help straighten Winter’s spine. C A small device no bigger than a toaster has generated oxygen on the surface of Mars, bringing the chances of surviving on the red planet a step closer. A. 12 How does the author introduce his topic? A. By presenting a personal experience. B. By describing a common daily behavior. Soon you’ll be done with the stresses of high school.
