It’s 8:00 p.m. You are sitting in front of the television and feel like some chocolate ice cream. You can’t stop thinking about it. If you can’t find any in the fridge, you may even go to the shop to get some.
We all have those strong wishes for delicious food like ice cream, fast noodles, or fried chicken. Eating a little is not bad for your health, but eating too much can give you weight problems. So how do you stop yourself from eating more? Experts have some easy ways to get over your cravings.
Let them pass. Studies show that the cravings last only about 10 minutes, so try to wait for a short time to let the cravings pass before you walk into the kitchen or to the shop.
Eat less at a time. You need to care about how much you are eating. Try to eat only a little bit of food at one time. For example, put potato chips in a small bowl and just eat those in it .
Eat healthy food. Try to eat a similar food that is healthier than the one you want. A glass of milk is better than sweets. Or, low- fat yogurt(酸奶) is healthier than ice cream.
Eat all kinds of food. Every food is good for your health if you eat in a right way.

Every year, more than 20 million new cases of cancer are reported around the world. Early detection (发现) of cancer gives patients a better chance of recovering (康复). Scientists keep looking for easier ways to check for the disease. A team of scientists in Israel is trying to use dogs and AI in a special test.
When someone has cancer, their body gives off certain chemicals. Dogs’ sense of smell is about 10, 000 times stronger than a human’s. They can smell these chemicals in a person’s breath.
For this study, the scientists trained six Labrador Retrievers (拉布拉多寻回犬) for six months. The dogs learned to detect four types of common cancers. The dogs smelled breath sample’s from different people. They were asked to sit down if they smelled the disease or move on if they didn’t. But sometimes, their reactions (反应) could be misunderstood. So the scientists made an AI model called LUCID. They used it to read the dogs’ expressions and body language.
The team had the dogs smell breath samples from nearly 1,400 people. And the AI looked at the dogs’ reactions. There were 281 cancer cases in these samples. Together, the dog-AI team found 245 of then. This means the test was correct about 94 percent of the time. It worked for both early and later stages of cancer.
The scientists hope to develop at-home tests to make it easy for people to take them. People will only need to breathe into a special mask to collect a sample. Then, it will be taken to be checked by the dogs and AI.

China is taking big steps to help people stay healthy. The government recently announced it will open more special “weight clinics (诊所)” in hospitals. These clinics use doctors, food experts, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to help people lose weight safely.
At a press meeting in Beijing, Lei Haichao from the National Health Commission (NHC) said the plan is part of a new health-first strategy (策略). The news quickly gained popularity online. Many people shared funny posts and drew cartoons about exercising and eating healthily.
Why does it matter? Half of Chinese adults are now overweight. If nothing changes, this number could rise to 70% by 2030. Being overweight can lead to health problems like diabetes. To prevent this, China started a three-year “weight management” campaign (运动) in 2024. Weight clinics are a key part of this plan. Besides clinics, many cities also take the suggestions and build millions of sports parks and walking paths for citizens. More Chinese people are exercising outdoors.
Food habits are changing too. New dietary guides mention healthy meals for different cities, such as steamed fish with millet (谷子) rice and vegetables in central China, and fresh seafood with vegetables in the south. People are choosing foods which have less sugar and oil. Office workers prefer salad bowls with chicken or fish. Even holiday snacks like moon cakes are now smaller and healthier. Doctors mix old Chinese recipes (配方) with modern science. For example, Shaanxi noodles now have more vegetables and tofu.
Keeping healthy isn’t just about weight but eating well, moving more, and feeling happy. With these methods mentioned above, China hopes to build a healthier future for everyone.

Roberta woke up early the next morning. Then she woke up Phyllis and Peter. “We’re in the new house. There are no servants here. We must help Mother now,” whispered Roberta.
Carefully the three children lit the fire and filled a kettle (水壶) with water. They hung the kettle above the fire.
“Mother isn’t awake yet. Let’s go outside and sit on that flat stone” said Roberta. “Perhaps we will see a train go by.”
When Mother came out at eight o’clock, Roberta, Peter and Phyllis were all fast asleep in the sunshine. They had put the kettle on the fire at five o’clock: three hours ago. All the water had boiled away (烧干). Now there was a hole in the bottom of the kettle. The fire had gone out.
“Never mind,” laughed Mother. “We can boil some water in a pan. And I’ve found the dinner.”
She led them into the kitchen and pointed to a door.
“Last night, I thought this was a cupboard. It was so dark. But look,” she said.
Mother opened the door and the children saw a little room with a table in the middle. On it there was roast beef, bread and butter, cheese and an apple pie.
“Apple pie for breakfast,” cried Peter. “What fun!”
It was a wonderful breakfast. Everyone was very hungry.
“It feels like dinner because we were up so early,” said Peter, as he passed his plate for more apple pie. When the children had finished, they helped Mother put everything away in the right place. Then Mother said, “I’m tired. I’m going to lie down for a while. Go out to play but please be careful.” Roberta, Peter and Phyllis looked at each other. They were all thinking the same thing. “Let’s go down to the railway” cried Roberta. “Listen!” said Phyllis. “I think I can hear a train.” Peter asked, “Do you think it’s going to London?”
“Father is in London,” replied Roberta. “Let’s go to the station and find out”.

Dear Mr Wang and classmates,
I am Li Hua. Today, I'm glad to share my life and thoughts with you.
This term, I have made great progress in English. When I am free, I like watching documentaries and I have learned a lot about nature and history from them. I also enjoy reading detective stories that are full of horror and mysteries. My favourite colour is blue, as it is a calm colour and it brings peace to my mind and body.
I want to be a kind and helpful person like my father. He cares for the old who live alone. Whenever he has some money left, he gives it to someone in need. As for the future job, I think I am very creative, so I'm going to be an artist when I grow up.
