Wendell Berry was almost 30 when he packed up his life as a New York intellectual (知识分子) and moved to Port Royal, a tiny community in Kentucky where generations of his forebears (祖先) had farmed the land. His friends thought he was mad. But he felt it was his inner calling to record the history of the place.
Since moving to Port Royal in 1964, he has lived as if he were in the 19th century, writing by hand and ploughing (犁) his fields with horses. His eight novels and more than 50 short stories are usually set in Port William, a stand-in (代替物) for Port Royal. Nick Offerman, an actor, wanted to adapt his work for the screen, However, the actor was refused.
In Mr Berry’s opinion, humans must take care of the earth that grants them life. “The soil is the greatest connector of lives,” he has written, “Without proper care for it, we can have no community.” This philosophy dominates his writings. In The Unsettling of America, published in 1977, Mr Berry criticized the natural damage caused by large agribusinesses. He thinks capitalism has separated farming from culture and disconnected people from nature.
Mr Berry’s fiction explores the decline of values by following Port William’s interconnected clans (家族) as they enter the modern age. In Dismemberment, a short story, Andy Catlett loses a hand to a harvesting machine and becomes a loner. He sees his withdrawal is mistaken and reconnects with the town, finding “the wealth of an intimate history” in belonging to “his ancestral place”. In Hannah Coulter, Mr Berry’s seventh novel, the main character, Hannah Coulter grows old after a sad life and anticipates loneliness when her children leave to find work in the city. Instead her hope is restored when her grandson returns to run the farm.
These stories offer insightful advice for readers living through ecological disasters. Though few can return to farming basics Mr Berry’s messages of building communities, being a good neighbor and resisting the invitation of modern life are still valuable.
4. Why did Mr Berry’s friends think he was mad?
A. He moved to live alone. B. He turned down Offerman’s request.
C. He wrote most of his novels by hand. D. He gave up his career as an intellectual.
5. What do Mr Berry’s writings often imply?
A. The challenges of farming in old days. B. The harmony between man and nature.
C. The real benefits of large agribusinesses. D. The hard lives of his forebears in Kentucky.
6. What do Andy Catlett and Hannah Coulter have in common?
A. They both find their values again. B. They both choose to live in the city.
C. They are victims of country life. D. They are from the same novel.
7. What kind of life may suit Mr Berry’s taste best?
A. Rural life with modern facilities. B. Urban life in old-fashioned ways.
C. Rural life with poor equipment. D. Rural life with distant connections.
【答案】4. D 5. B 6. A 7. C

Landscape architect Kotchakorn Voraakhom has designed a new green roof on the Rangsit Campus of Thammasat University, about 25 miles north of central Bangkok, Thailand. Her imaginative work challenges the common thinking that urbanization has a negative impact on the planet, whether flooding, excess (过度的) energy use, disrupted (扰乱) biodiversity or the heat island effect.
The 236, 806-square-foot structure, which opened in December 2019, includes a flood water management system and Asia’s largest rooftop organic farm. It combines modern landscape architecture with traditional agricultural knowledge, creating a green and friendly environment.
The green roof, containing an H-shaped landscape, looks like a futuristic hill with a brick building beneath it. The hill features a complex pattern of zigzagging terraces (之字形梯田) of planted beds, leading all the way down to the bottom. When rainwater hits the roof, it flows down the zigzags while being absorbed by the soil in the beds, The excess water is directed into four storage ponds — with a capacity of up to 3 million gallons. The process slows down the flow speed of rainwater runoff compared to a normal concrete rooftop. This keeps the area from flooding during heavy rains.
The roof’s terraces are filled with organically grown crops, including a drought tolerant variety of rice, many local vegetables and herbs. The farm can supply the canteens on campus with a large amount of rice, herbs and vegetables a year. The food waste is composted (把……制成堆肥) to fertilize the farm, and water from the storage ponds is used to water plants, creating an entirely localized and circular system.
The farm serves as an outdoor classroom and a source of local jobs, too. Farmers offer workshops on sustainable agriculture and nutrition as part of the university’s sustainability curriculum. “Students and community members are invited to participate in seasonal seeding, harvesting, and so on,” says Voraakhom. “The urban farm is training a new generation of organic farmers with real-world skills. It also promotes a sense of community.”
8. What can we say about Voraakhom’s work?
A. It’s short-lived. B. It’s creative.
C. It’s demanding. D. It’s time-consuming.
9. Why is the rooftop designed to be zigzag?
A. To store more water.
B. To plant diverse vegetables.
C. To slow the speed of water flow.
D. To make it look more attractive than other buildings.
10. What can be inferred about the farm from paragraph 4?
A. It uses food as fertilizer. B. It benefits the environment.
C. It improves students’ lifestyle. D. It produces vegetables and fruits.
11. What does the author want to show by mentioning the outdoor classroom?
A. Students can learn hands-on knowledge on the farm.
B. Farmers working on the farm can become professors.
C. The farm prevents government from offering people jobs.
D. The farm harms the relationship between university and community.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. B 11. A

【8题详解】
细节理解题。由第一段中“Her imaginative work challenges the common thinking that urbanization has a negative impact on the planet, whether flooding, excess (过度的) energy use, disrupted (扰乱) biodiversity or the heat island effect. (她的富有想象力的工作挑战了人们的普遍看法,即城市化对地球有负面影响,无论是洪水、过度能源使用、生物多样性破坏还是热岛效应)”可知,Voraakhom的作品富有想象力、很具创意。故选B项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。由第三段中“The hill features a complex pattern of zigzagging terraces (之字形梯田) of planted beds, leading all the way down to the bottom. When rainwater hits the roof, it flows down the zigzags while being absorbed by the soil in the beds, The excess water is directed into four storage ponds — with a capacity of up to 3 million gallons. The process slows down the flow speed of rainwater runoff compared to a normal concrete rooftop. (小山以之字形梯田种植床为特征,一直通向底部。当雨水到达屋顶时,它沿着Z字形流下,同时被种植床上的土壤吸收。多余的水被引导到四个容量高达300万加仑的蓄水池中。与普通混凝土屋顶相比,这一过程减缓了雨水径流的流速)”可知,屋顶设计成之字形是为了减慢水流的速度。故选C项。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。由第四段中“The food waste is composted (把……制成堆肥) to fertilize the farm, and water from the storage ponds is used to water plants, creating an entirely localized and circular system. (食物垃圾被堆肥以给农场施肥,储存池中的水被用来给植物浇水,形成了一个完全本地化的循环系统)”可知,食物垃圾可用来堆肥,储存池中的水可用来浇灌植物,无污染无浪费,此农场有益于环境。故选B项。

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, has emerged as a pioneer in educational technology. Its latest model, DeepSeek-R1, combines advanced machine learning methods to provide personalized learning solutions for students worldwide.
Unlike traditional AI models that rely on pre-programmed answers, DeepSeek-R1 uses reinforcement learning to simulate human reasoning. This allows it to guide students through problem-solving step by step, much like a patient tutor. For example, when a student struggles with a math equation, DeepSeek-R1 doesn’t just give the answer; it breaks down the logic, identifies errors, and encourages critical thinking.
The model’s applications extend beyond academics. In language learning, it analyzes students’ pronunciation through AI speech recognition and offers real-time feedback. For teachers, DeepSeek-R1 can generate lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and even predict students’ learning difficulties based on historical data. Its “adaptive testing” feature creates customized quizzes that adjust difficulty according to individual progress.
However, challenges remain. Critics argue that over-reliance on AI might reduce human interaction in education. DeepSeek’s developers address this by emphasizing its role as a “supplement, not a replacement.” As Dr. Li, a DeepSeek researcher, stated, “Our goal is to free teachers from repetitive tasks so they can focus on inspiring creativity.”
Looking ahead, DeepSeek aims to integrate virtual reality (VR) into its platform, allowing students to explore historical events or scientific concepts in immersive 3D environments. While ethical debates about AI in education persist, one thing is clear: tools like DeepSeek are reshaping how we learn, blending technology with human wisdom.
12. What makes DeepSeek-R1 different from traditional AI models?
A. It uses pre-programmed answers.
B. It focuses on memorization techniques.
C. It replaces teachers in classrooms.
D. It employs reinforcement learning for reasoning.
13. The underlined word “adaptive” in Paragraph 3 most likely means ________.
A. fixed B. adjustable C. complicated D. outdated
14. What can be inferred about DeepSeek’s future plans?
A. VR technology will enhance interactive learning.
B. It will eliminate all classroom activities.
C. It prioritizes profit over educational values.
D. Teachers will lose their jobs to AI.
15. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To advertise DeepSeek products.
B. To criticize the risks of AI in schools.
C. To discuss AI’s role in transforming education.
D. To compare different AI models.
【答案】12 D 13. B 14. A 15. C

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On the Saturday morning, I could see rays of sunlight as I said good morning to my brother, Willie aged six while I was nine. Breaking up for a summer holiday, I felt at ease and plotted (暗中策划) our own delightful day.
“Good morning, sleepy head,” Mum smiled at me. “Get yourself dressed, Shawn. Run out and collect some firewood. I’ll fix you some hot cakes.”
I slipped on my clothes, grabbed the ax and headed straight for the outhouse. There father sat freely with a bottle of beer in hand. During the summer holiday, he would find time to take us to catch some fish for supper. However, his fishing pole missing, we could have no choice but to try something different.
I walked with my chin up as I thought about what a great day this was going to be. Willie and I were going to ride our bikes into town, and I was sure we’d find some empty bottles, maybe enough to buy some ice cream, my favorite while Willie had a preference for sweets. With the birds bouncing (跳动) up and down in the tree, I thought it was going to be a great day.
Everything done. Mum’s hot cakes were waiting for me. Willie finished his breakfast in a flash.
“Mum. can we go now?” I asked, as I swallowed down the last forkful of hot cakes.
“Now, Shawn, you should be careful. Willie hasn’t gone out on the roads much, so you let him ride ahead of you. Keep a good eye on him. OK?”
“Take care, Willie,” I screamed when we cycled towards a mountain called Andover, the peak of which was the perfect spot to find empty bottles. Stark’s Store paid cash, two cents each, and we thought we were rich every time Mr Stark handed us our reward in real money. Cycling up the mountain was a lot of work, but it was worth it.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
Tired but delighted, we arrived at the peak of Andover.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Tired but delighted, we arrived at the peak of Andover. The wind blew gently, carrying the fresh smell of pine. We quickly got down to work, searching every corner — under the rocks, beside the bushes, and even behind the old wooden sign. Soon, our bike baskets were filled with empty bottles. Willie jumped up and down excitedly, yelling, “We can buy so many sweets!” I smiled, imagining the cold, creamy ice cream melting on my tongue. We tied the bottles tightly to the bikes and started heading down the mountain, the wind rushing through our hair.
In front of me was Stark’s shelves with everything kids dreamed of, but I hesitated. I glanced at Willie, who was staring at the colorful candy jars with bright eyes. I counted the money Mr. Stark handed us, then turned to my brother. “Pick any sweets you want, Willie. My treat,” I said. His face lit up like the sun. We left the store with him holding a big bag of candies and me with a small cone of ice cream. The taste was even sweeter than I’d imagined, knowing I’d made my brother happy.

Since moving to Port Royal in 1964 he has lived as if he were in the 19th century, writing by hand and ploughing (犁) his fields with horses.
Though few can return to farming basics, Mr Berry’s messages of building communities, being a good neighbor and resisting the invitation of modern life are still valuable.

Unlike traditional AI models that rely on pre-programmed answers DeepSeek-R1 uses reinforcement learning to simulate human reasoning.

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
Tired but delighted, we arrived at the peak of Andover.
