When I was a little boy, my family would sometimes gather together at my aunt’s tiny house in summer. Relatives from all over the country would come to visit.
The adults would get together in the living room, around the kitchen table and on the front porch (门廊) to talk about each other’s life. All of us kids would be sent out to the front yard to play. Those were the days before video games and smartphones appeared, so we often ended up playing an old-fashioned game called tag (捉人游戏). I especially remember one of those times.
I was the youngest and smallest boy of all the kids there, so I got caught first and couldn’t catch anyone else. Although I tried my best to chase after my brothers and cousins, they were all too fast for me. I grew more and more upset.
I finally rushed towards one of my brothers but I fell into the dirt (泥土) unluckily. I got up from it with tears in my eyes. Then I saw one of my cousins standing there. She started to run but ran much slower than before. I easily caught her. Then she turned to me, smiling and saying, “It’s my turn! You’d better run!” I ran with laughing while she started to chase one of my older brothers.

Beijing Opera is one of the traditional Chinese drama art forms. It has a history of nearly 200 years. During the Qing Dynasty, four big opera troupes (剧团) from Anhui Province entered the capital in 1790, and combined (结合) many other drama forms to create what we now know as Beijing Opera. It was especially popular in Southern China during the 18th century.
Although many theatrical art forms in other countries tend to focus on a single performance skill, some, such as musicals, also combine singing, dancing and spoken dialogue; however, this combination has been a traditional feature of Chinese drama including Beijing Opera. Traditional Chinese drama, including Beijing Opera, is a kind of entertainment, which includes spoken parts, singing and dancing.
Mei Lanfang is the best known Beijing Opera master ever. He was born in an opera family and began studying Beijing Opera at the age of eight. At 10, he performed his first role. His wonderful performances made him popular and famous. Because of him, foreigners began to know Beijing Opera. In 1919, he visited Japan and first introduced Beijing Opera out of China. Later, he made another four highly successful tours in foreign countries. Since then, Beijing Opera has become more and more popular with people all over the world. In 1955, Mei Lanfang became the president of China Beijing Opera Theater.
Beijing Opera is China’s national opera and it is full of Chinese cultural traditions. It has made an excellent contribution to cultural exchange between China and the West. It is better to see once than to hear a hundred times.“You will doubt and sometimes be a little bored, but you will be interested in it gradually. Imagine you need to send an important document (文件) far away as soon as possible. How would you do it? Chances are that you would use email or a smartphone app. However, for many people, the answer to that question is the fax machine.
The first fax machine was invented in 1843 by Alexander Bain. Then in 1964, modem fax machines became widely available. In the 1980s and 1990s, they were considered the fastest and safest way to send information.
With the development of technology, you might think email would have made the fax machine a thing of the past, but you’d be wrong. Fax use continues to grow by more than 12% every year. One explanation is that fax machines are still easier to use for documents that are written by hand. But the real reason for their continued use has to do with security (安全).
Email is convenient, but it can be hacked. This is a danger for governments, hospitals and other organizations. Using a fax machine allows information to go directly from one place to another without needing to be saved on a computer. It can then be kept in a physical location where it’s more difficult to steal.
Fax machine technology grew quickly throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and it continues to develop today!

A. In 1843. B. In 1964. C. In 1980. D. In 1990.

50. What does the underlined word “hack” probably mean?
A. Turn into B. Check out C. Find out D. Break into
51. What can we know about the fax machine?
A. It is only used in the hospital. B. It is hardly developing today.
C. It makes email a thing of the past. D. It can send documents written by hand.
52. What is the best title for the text?
A. The style of the fax machine. B. The history and advantages of the fax machine.
C. The way of using fax machine. D. The future of fax machine.

I understood how her act of kindness that day saved me from sadness and returned me to joy later. It didn’t matter that we hardly ever saw each other. We were family and we loved each other.

【答案】例文
A recent survey shows that the health of the students in our school has improved in the past three years.
The results of the survey show that the number of students getting nearsighted has dropped by 1%. Compared with 32% in 2022, the number of students with mental problems has dropped by 21%. It also shows that the percentage of students who lack sleep has dropped by 36 percent. Besides, the number of overweight students has dropped by 9%. There’s no doubt that taking regular exercise has played a key role in improving students’ physical and mental health.
In order to further improve students’ health, I call for less homework and less exposure to electronics and more P.E. classes. Only in these ways can students get plenty of sleep and exercise and meanwhile prevent themselves from getting nearsighted or other problems.
