We teenagers will finally grow up some day, leaving our parents and facing the challenges in life alone, so we should learn some life skills and form good working habits. As our country asks, schools should play a key part in teaching students about the importance of working hard. To our happiness, our school gives us labour(劳动)classes every week.

The cold wind swept away the last piece of warmth. A dead leaf fell at Soapy’s feet. That was a special sign for him that the cold winter was coming.
The three months’ life in the prison(监狱)on Blackwell’s island was what he wanted. Three months of free food every day and a bed every night, three months safe from cops(警察). This seemed the most expected thing to Soapy in the world. For years, the prison had been his winter home.
There were many easy ways of doing this. The best way was to have a good dinner at a fine restaurant. Then he would say that he had no money to pay. And then a cop would be called. The cop would catch him. He would be taken to a judge. The judge would do the rest. Thinking about this, he had a spark of hope in his heart.
But when Soapy put his foot inside the restaurant door, the waiter saw his broken old shoes and clothes. Strong hands pushed Soapy around and moved him outside again. The failure(失败)for the first time let him down.
Days later, Soapy went to a shop. It had a wide glass window.Soapy picked up a big stone and threw(扔)it through the glass. People came running around the corner. A cop was the first among them. Soapy stood still, and he smiled happily when he saw the cop.
“Where’s the man that did that?”asked the cop.
“Don’t you think I might have done it?”said Soapy. What he wanted was coming toward him.
But the cop didn’t consider Soapy. That’s because men who break windows do not stop there to talk to cops. They run away as fast as they can. The cop saw a man further along the street, running. He ran after him. Soapy’s heart was filled with sadness, and he walked slowly away. He had failed two times.

The third Saturday in December last year was right the winter solstice(冬至). To celebrate it, our teacher decided to teach us to make dumplings together in the labour class on Friday.
We had that class in the dining hall because there were enough kitchen machines and tools for us to use. Our teacher made us into eight groups and each group brought their ingredients like vegetables, flour, meat, salt, soy sauce, green onions and soon. With the help of our teachers and the chef, we started our work.

Next, we rolled the dough into small pieces and used a rolling pin to make them into thin wrappers.
After that, we took a wrapper and put some filling in the centre, folded the wrapper and pinched the edges(捏边)to make it rounded. But it was much easier to say than to do.
