Every year, climate change is making the planet hotter. When humans cut down trees or burn coal, oil, and gas to produce electricity, CO2 and other harmful greenhouse gases (温室气体) go into the atmosphere (大气层). These gases take in the sun’s heat, causing Earth to warm up. The heat causes terrible weather around the world, including heat waves, floods and huge storms.
One way of keeping the planet cool is to stop the greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere. Some animals are natural-born climate change fighters. All animals are important, but a few hero animals protect their homes and keep them healthy, while going about their daily lives. Just by being themselves, these clever animals can prevent the planet from getting too hot. Let’s meet them.
Tapirs (貘), rainforest regenerators
Imagine if you pulled a pig’s nose to make it longer but stopped before it got as long as an elephant’s trunk. That’s what a tapir looks like. These strange animals can grow as big as, or even bigger than, an adult lion. Tapirs have a secret superpower, too—their poo (大便). Tapir’s poo spreads seeds (种子) across the forest, helping lots of new plants grow so that the forests can spring back to life more quickly.
Sea otters (海獭), protectors of the kelp (海带) forest
Kelp grows in huge underwater forests. Like forests on land, kelp provides a wonderful, safe home for lots of animals, including sea otters. It also takes in and stores lots of carbon (碳). The sea urchins (海胆) love to eat kelp, and sea otters love to eat the urchins. When an otter uses its stomach like a dinner table to snack on urchins, it’s not only super-cute, it’s actually helping to protect the kelp and create healthy, lively underwater forests.
4.What happens when greenhouse gases go into the atmosphere?
A.They make the sky look darker. B.They send the sun’s heat back into space.
C.They prevent sunlight from reaching Earth. D.They take in the sun’s heat, making Earth warmer.
5.What is the tapir’s secret superpower?
A.Running faster than a lion.
B.Climbing trees very high to pick fruits.
C.Spreading seeds with their poo to help plants grow.
D.Eating a lot of different plants to grow as big as a lion.
6.How does kelp help in the underwater ecosystem?
A.It eats up sea urchins as snacks. B.It keeps the sea water warm and clean.
C.It is a primary food source for sea otters. D.It provides a home for sea otters and stores carbon.
7.What’s the role of tapirs and sea otters in the environment?
A.They are a danger to the environment. B.They have no influence on the environment.
C.They play a big role in protecting the environment. D.They strongly wish to stop the Earth getting warmer.

Most of us cannot imagine modern life without social media(社交媒体). We use it almost every day in order to keep up with what is happening in our friends’ lives, or find out the latest information. Although it has a bad influence if we don’t use it properly, social media has done more good than harm.
The greatest advantage is that we can connect with people much more easily. We are still able to keep in touch with our friends if they are far away. With social media, friendship goes beyond geography. We are able to find friends old and new. Also, it makes it easier for us to make friends, especially for those who are afraid of making friends face to face. Are you shy? If yes, social media has probably helped.
Social media is also ideal for making yourself heard. Anyone with a voice can express it. Anyone with a talent is free to show it. Everyone is the new content creator. Moreover, anyone with a smartphone and the Internet can be a reporter. As a result, it has become much faster to cover the news than ever before.
Social media, on the other hand, can make us less confident sometimes. A 2021 study published by the Public Library of Science, found that the more a person uses social media, the sadder he feels about his own life. One reason for this is that people around us put colourful information and perfect pictures online in order to show off their best moment. So we often get a distorted sense of how wonderful their lives are compared to our own.
Social media does not cause sadness; it simply provides another tool for us to use. Is it good or bad? Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai says, “What is interesting is the power and influence of social media ... We must try to use social media in a good way.” After all, you decide how you use this powerful tool.
12.What is the greatest advantage of social media according to the passage?
A.Expressing our voices freely. B.Showing our talents to others.
C.Recording the best side of our life. D.Connecting with people more easily.
13.What does the word “distorted” probably mean in Paragraph 4?
A.clear B.different C.incorrect D.simple

Have you ever noticed how people always say the music from their childhood is the best? Whether it’s a song from a favorite band 51 a melody that reminds them of a special time, people often feel that music from their youth is unforgettable. This is because of something called the “memory bump (记忆隆起).”
The memory bump means our memories from ages 10 to 30 are stronger and 52 (clear) than memories from other times in our life. This period is important because it’s when we experience many “firsts” — our first concert, first long trip, or even our first heartbreak. These events 53 (connect) with music, books, and movies we love, and the memories tied to them stay with us.
54 do we remember music so well from these years? Because 55 (we) brains store these memories in a special, protected area. This makes the music we listen to during this time more meaningful and emotional. Even years later, the feelings can be brought back by 56 (hear) those old songs.
It is 57 (wide) known that music has a great and lasting influence on people. The 58 (choice) of the songs we made during our youth are important and can shape who we are. Since we feel strongly about these songs, they remind us of the most unforgettable moments 59 were important in our lives.
Next time you hear 60 old song, pay attention to how it makes you feel. It may just take you back to a time full of memories and emotions!
51.or 52.clearer 53.are connected 54.Why 55.our 56.hearing 57.widely 58.choices 59.that 60.an
whether ... or ... 故填or。
故填are connected。
故填our。
故填that。
故填an。

14.Which picture shows the structure(结构) of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1, ...)
A. B. C. D.
15.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?
A.Social Media: Our Friend Or Enemy? B.Social Media: To Use Or Not To Use?
C.Social Media: Connecting The World D.Social Media: Making Yourself Heard
