The Spring Festival is celebrated not only in China but also in other parts of the world. The traditional holiday is the most important to Chinese both at home and abroad.
The United Kingdom Celebrations for the Spring Festival in the UK started in 1980, with the first evening party held in 2002. Every New Year, people get together and have a lot of activities. They sing songs, dance to music, share photos with friends or enjoy films in a cinema.

It is a good chance for people to build a circle (圈子) of friends and feel that they are not alone because they share the same culture and values (价值观).
Australia The Chinese New Year is welcomed with three weeks of celebrations across Australia. Many people come to Sydney’s Chinatown or Little Bourke in Melbourne. They enjoy fireworks, lion dances, dragon boat races and many other traditional activities. The celebrations are also a bridge towards better understanding between Chinese and non-Chinese.
Singapore The family dinner on New Year’s Eve is an important tradition for Chinese whether they were born in Singapore or moved there from China. They place traditional food on a table as an act of remembering their past. Then the whole family enjoy their dinner together. In the US, in primary schools and high schools, students celebrate “spirit week” in late September. It is a week when you can refresh yourself and get ready for the rest of the semester (学期). We also call it “homecoming week”, because our families can be allowed to visit our schools during this period.
There are a large number of funny activities held for spirit week, such as dancing, kicking a ball, and so on. However, I think the coolest activity in spirit week this year was the weird (奇特的) dress show. Spirit week provides a chance to dress up and show spirit.
We had a special weird dress show every day. Each class had different colors to wear on Monday. On Tuesday you needed to dress like one or more of your friends.
Wednesday was the best day ever—clash (冲突) day! Everyone wore clothes that didn’t match. Some students wore one green sock and one red sock at the same time. I saw a student who on the top half was wearing a very formal white shirt and blue jacket but on the bottom half had tiger print pants.
Thursday was the crazy hairdo day. I would never have imagined that someone would wear a very strange colorful wig (假发) to class, but that actually happened. I just wore a really small part of a pink wig on my head. I am not that crazy. Friday was a day for the school. We wore something with our school name on it.
This could be the best week in the whole school year. Students need breaks from their studies sometimes. I am eagerly (渴望地) waiting for next year’s spirit week.
39. Why do we call “spirit week” “homecoming week”?
A. Because kids can refresh themselves. B. Because families can visit schools.
C. Because kids hold lots of funny parties. D. Because kids can wear weird clothes.
40. When can students wear a wig to school during “spirit week”?
A. On Monday. B. On Tuesday. C. On Wednesday. D. On Thursday.
41. What should students wear on Friday?
A. Formal school uniforms. B. Clothes that don’t match well.
C. Clothes with the school name on it. D. Clothes with different colors
42. What can we learn from the story?
A. The author enjoyed the weird dress show very much.
B. Every American family looks forward to “spirit week”.
C. American school kids have a strong sense of fashion.
D. American kids always wear strange clothes to school.

Thousands of years ago, in the south of ancient China, there lived Shennong, a man who had an ox (牛) head and human body. Seeing that local people were suffering (受折磨) from diseases, he built ladders and houses on a high mountain to store hundreds of medicinal plants. To remember him, people named the place Shennongjia.
The legend (传说) makes Shennongjia in Hubei an inviting place for tourists. Traveling there is a unique experience, as you can see scenery of the four seasons from different altitudes (高度). “When the bottom of the mountain is summer, the top is spring and while the foothill is autumn, the top is covered with ice,” local people say of the special climate of Shennongjia.
Shennongjia is also home to 5,000 species of animals and plants. Many animals in danger live there, such as the golden monkey, the clouded leopard and the Asian black bears.
One interesting and mysterious thing about Shennongjia is its legend of wild men. Some people once claimed that they saw big prints or big-foot creatures (生物). Yet so far scientists haven’t proved it is true and some say they are just bears.

The video quickly went viral on the Internet. In no time, “Chinese Steamed Buns Compete at the French Bread Festival” became a hot topic. It brought much attention to mantou. As a main food, it is seen every day on Chinese dinner tables. It is amazing that mantou had such a chance to go to France and compete with the foods from different countries.
Mantou is made with wheat flour (面粉) and yeast (酵母). And then it is steamed for about half an hour. When it is freshly cooked, it produces a nice smell and feels soft. And most people cannot wait to have a bite (咬一口) . Mantou can be also enjoyed in many ways. For example, it can be fried or baked to golden brown.

During the three-day New Year holiday in 2024, over 3 million tourists poured into Harbin. Many of them came from southern China. Harbin locals gave these visitors a cute nickname (昵称) “Nanfang xiaotudou” or “Southern potatoes”. It is because southern people are usually shorter and they look like small potatoes when wearing thick jackets and hats. To Harbin people, this name is not to make fun of southerners, but to create a sense (感觉) of warmth with humor.
Harbin tried everything to meet tourists’ needs, especially those from the south. Cooks carefully cut the local frozen pear into small pieces. Different kinds of concerts were held in shopping malls. A drone (无人机) lifted a man-made moon for tourists to take photos. Harbin really went all out to make them happy.
However, even though they did all these to please the southern tourists, this nickname “Southern potatoes” sparked (导致) a heated discussion on the Internet. While Harbin locals use the name to show warmth and good will, some tourists feel that calling them “Southern potatoes” is making fun of their height.
Even though people from the Northeast are kind and warm-hearted, we have to realize that there is still some discrimination (歧视) in several parts of China. It’s important to make the world a more welcoming place. After all, everyone likes kindness and dislikes discrimination, whether it’s on purpose or not.
50. Why do Harbin locals call southerners “Southern potatoes”?
A. Because southerners like to eat small potatoes.
B. Because southerners sell small potatoes in Harbin.
C. Because Harbin locals want to make fun of southerners’ height.
D. Because southerners look like small potatoes in thick jackets and hats.
51. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. Harbin cooks made some nice food for southern tourists.
B. Southern travelers were very happy with Harbin tourism.
C. Harbin tried their best to please tourists and make them happy.
D. Many tourists like the food there.
52. How should we treat people from different places according to the last paragraph?
A. We should be kind and welcoming.
B. We should not discriminate against them on purpose.
C. We should do everything to make them happy.
D. We should treat them according to what they like.

During the time of Three Kingdoms, there lived a man named Meng Zong. He lost his father when he was a child. When his mother was old and sick, the doctor said that fresh bamboo shoots (竹笋) could save her life. But it was winter. Meng Zong had no idea how he could get them. He went into a bamboo field and cried. His love moved the earth. The ground cracked (裂开). Many bamboo shoots came out. Meng Zong carried them home and made them into a soup for his mother. V.单项填空(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
从有小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出一个可以填入空白处的最值选项。
1. —The paper cutting is pretty lively. Who made it?
—It _________ be Amy. None of us except her is able to do it.
A. would B. can C. need D. must
【答案】D
【解析】
【详解】句意:——这个剪纸相当生动,是谁制作的?——一定是艾米。除了她,我们中没有一个人能做到。
考查情态动词辨析。would将会;can能;need需要;must一定。根据“None of us except her is able to do it.”可知,除了艾米,我们中没有一个人能做到,所以此处表示肯定的推测,用must,表示“一定”。故选D。
2. —Look at the black watch in the lost and found box. Is it Lisa’s?
—Maybe. It may belong to _________ because she likes black.
A. she B. her C. hers D. him
【答案】B
【解析】
【详解】句意:——看失物招领箱里的那块黑色手表。是Lisa的吗?——可能是。它可能属于她,因为她喜欢黑色。
考查代词辨析。she她,主格;her 她,宾格;hers她的,名词性物主代词;him他,宾格。根据“belong to”后需接宾语的语法规则,且上下文“she likes black”指女性,因此填her。故选B。
3. —When I am too tired to think, I like to lie down and _________ my brain.
—Sounds great. I’d like to have a try next time.
A. stick to B. lay out C. shut off D. drop by

A. Because southerners like to eat small potatoes.

A Harbin cooks made some nice food for southern tourists.
B. Southern travelers were very happy with Harbin tourism.
C. Harbin tried their best to please tourists and make them happy.

In the past, filial piety was a very important duty in Chinese tradition. To be a filial son, one had to completely obey (服从) his parents during his lifetime. As he grew older, he had to take the best care of them. Today the form of filial piety is a little different from ancient times. People don’t stay in one place for a lifetime. They might study, work and live far away from their parents. The young have their own opinions, which may be different from those of the old. But the nature of filial piety remains the same.
