The first month of high school felt like being lost in a thick forest. I’d been a top student in my junior high, but here, everything was overwhelming — taller buildings, more students, and teachers who spoke very fast. My desk was always crowded with disorganized notes, and I’d sit alone in the cafeteria, looking at my lunch with lively chats around me.
One afternoon, I stayed back to finish my physics homework, which was full of confusing equations (方程式). Just as I was about to crumple (弄皱) the paper in disappointment, Ms. Li, my Chinese teacher, walked in. She noticed my red eyes and sat down beside me. “Adapting to the new life takes time,” she said softly, pointing at my messy notes. “Let’s try organizing them by topics — like how you used to arrange your storybooks.” Her words reminded me of the way I’d sort my favorite novels by type, a good habit I’d given up in the confusion of new life.
That night, I reorganized all my notes with colored markers. The next day, during our group discussion on a poem, I shared my thought about the author’s hidden sadness. “That’s a really unique view,” said Jia Hui, who always seemed so confident. She later invited me to join her study group.
We started meeting every Wednesday after class. Jia Hui helped me with equations, and I helped her with Chinese writing. Slowly, I stopped feeling like an outsider. Last week, I even volunteered to present our group’s project in class. When the teacher praised our work, I saw Ms. Li gave me a warm smile that felt like a light.
Now, I realize high school isn’t a forest to get lost in, but a new book waiting to be read. It’s not easy at the beginning; what matters is having the courage to ask for help and the patience to get used to a new life. Those disorganized notes and lonely cafeteria days are now part of my story — a story about growing up and finding my place.
4. What does the underlined word “overwhelming” mean in paragraph 1?
A. Challenging. B. Exciting. C. Amazing. D. Disappointing.
5. What good habit did the writer give up in the face of the new life?
A. Handing in homework on time. B. Getting used to the new life.

6 What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Avoid mistakes in a new life. B. Learn to grow in difficult time.
C. Keep curious in high school life. D. Depend on others in difficulties.
7. What is a suitable title for the passage?
A. My Favorite Subject in High School B. The Confusing Life in High School
C. Finding My Way in High School D. A Helpful Teacher in High School
【答案】4. A 5. D 6. B 7. C

In the United States, teenagers often spend around 7.5 hours each day looking at screens. After the COVID-19 pandemic (新冠疫情), screen time went up in Europe, Asia, and the Americas for people of all ages, but the biggest increase was among teenagers.
Teenagers’ days are affected by always being connected online. A recent study found that teenagers spend about 4.8 hours a day on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media apps. This time online affects how they see themselves and build friendships. Online places can make loneliness less, make friendships stronger, and give hard-to-find health information that might be difficult to get in real life. But social media has also been related to worries, sadness, and low confidence, especially when teenagers compare themselves to carefully chosen images of online stars.
To better understand how teens themselves view these advantages and disadvantages of digital life, Leo Zeigel and his team worked with UNICEF (联合国儿童基金会) to study information from 71 focus groups with teenagers in 13 countries. Focus groups were done in teenagers’ own language and separated by sex and age. The talks, which took place in 2021, asked young people about how different social places affect their health and feelings. By listening directly to teenagers, the research team explored how teenagers feel the risk and good things of their online worlds.
The researchers asked questions about health and feelings in relation to different parts of daily life: at home, in school, with friends, and in their larger communities. Digital communication was a topic of discussion among teenagers in 11 of the 13 countries. Overall, there were more same things than differences across countries, although there was less discussion of online talk from groups in poorer countries.
8. When did teens’ screen time rise most sharply?
A. After the global public health emergency.
B. After entering middle school.
C. Since TikTok became popular in 2023.
D. During summer holidays.
9 What is one benefit of online spaces for teens?
A. Shortening study time. B. Reducing peer comparisons.
C. Cutting down the risk of depression. D. Offering mental health information.
10. What can be inferred about Leo Zeigel’s research?
A. It paid no attention to teens’ age differences.
B. It used only English to get research information.
C. It got first-hand views directly from teenagers.
D. It aimed to help adults learn about teens’ online life.
11. What did researchers find about online talk discussions from the last paragraph?
A. It was discussed in all the 13 countries in the research.
B. It was more common in high-income countries.
C. It was closely related to school mental health.
D. Most countries held similar views on its risks.
【答案】8. A 9. D 10. C 11. B

A series of earthquakes has been happening on Japan’s Noto Peninsula since late 2020.This unusual geological activity has drawn worldwide attention. Unlike common earthquake groups in volcanic areas, which usually last only weeks or months, the series on the Noto Peninsula has lasted for years.
A recent study led by Qingyu Wang from MIT suggests environmental factors — heavy snow, rain, and rising sea levels — may be key causes. The research studied earthquake data from 2012 to 2023, focusing on pressure inside rocks. It found that too much fluid pressure (液压) in rock spaces weakens rock structure, and changes in surface weight can cause such pressure changes, so snow proved the most possible factor, with the earthquake series’ seasonal pattern further supporting a link with weather changes.
This finding has gained some support from experts. Stephen Mcnutt noted that “water is the main possible factor,” and Roland Bürgmann added that snow and water-caused weight changes have been linked to small earthquake movements in other places. However, Bürgmann stressed it is nearly impossible to decide whether environmental factors affect any one earthquake, and direct cause and effect requires more test evidence.
Researchers are also still studying how environmental causes of earthquakes could be related to human-driven climate change. Climate-related changes like melting ice, rising sea level and heavy rain are all possible factors to earthquakes.
While climate change will probably have some effect on earthquake activity, Bürgmann says “changes in earthquake danger should probably be the least of our worries when it comes to the impact of climate change”.
12. What is unique about this series of earthquakes?
A. It has attracted much attention. B. It happened in volcanic areas.
C. It has lasted for years. D. It is caused by environmental factors.
13. What is the most influential factor according to paragraph 2?
A. Heavy snow. B. Rising sea levels.
C. Climate change. D. Fluid pressure.
14. Which word best describes Mcnutt’s attitude to the study?
A. Doubtful. B. Careful. C. Disappointed. D. Favorable.
15. Which idea may Bürgmann agree with?
A. Snow has no link to earthquake activity.
B. Environmental factors affect a specific earthquake.
C. Climate change has little effect on earthquake danger.
D. Human-driven climate changes lead to the earthquake series.
【答案】12. C 13. A 14. D 15. C

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Standing in front of the classroom, I felt my hands shake as I stared at the wrinkled (皱巴巴的) note cards. Just a month ago, I’d avoided speaking English by any means — my vocabulary was limited, and I feared mispronouncing simple words. When Mr. Li announced the “English Story Sharing” homework, I wanted to give up immediately.
The first week was a terrible dream. I spent hours searching for basic words like “courage” and “determination” in my dictionary, only to forget them the next day. My partner Lily noticed my worry and offered to practice with me after class. We read short stories aloud, and she corrected my pronunciation of “th” and “r” patiently. Though I made mistakes when speaking sentences and felt bad about my mistakes, Lily never laughed — she just said, “Mistakes are part of learning.”
As we kept practicing, small successes started to add up. One afternoon, when I was describing how a person felt, I naturally said “excited” without stopping to check the dictionary. Lily’s eyes lit up, and she clapped hands with me, “You did that without thinking!” That moment filled me with a little confidence. Every night after that, I began practicing in front of the mirror. I used hand movements to make the story more lively, even if I made mistakes with a word or two. I’d repeat the hard sentences over and over until they came out fluently. Slowly, the note cards didn’t feel like something I couldn’t live without — they felt more like a helpful friend guiding me along.
One evening, I tried recording myself telling the story of my favorite book. Listening back, I was uncomfortable with how bad my sentences sounded. But instead of giving up, I rewrote the text, replacing difficult words with simpler ones I’d learned. Mr. Li also gave me valuable advice, “Focus on expressing your feelings, not being perfect.”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, the day of the story sharing arrived.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Finally, the day of the story sharing arrived. I walked to the front of the classroom with my heart pounding. Taking a deep breath, I started to tell my story. At first, my voice was a bit shaky, but as I got into it, I remembered all the efforts I’d put in and the encouragement from Lily and Mr. Li. I used the hand gestures I’d practiced and pronounced each word as clearly as possible. I was fully immersed in the story, forgetting my fear for a while. The note cards were right there, but I hardly needed them. Every line seemed to come naturally from my heart.
When I finished my story, the classroom erupted in applause. I looked around, seeing the smiling faces of my classmates. Lily gave me a big thumbs-up. Mr. Li nodded with approval. I felt a huge sense of accomplishment wash over me. All those hours of struggling, the frustration of making mistakes, and the determination to keep going had paid off. I realized that with effort and the support of others, I could overcome my fear of speaking English. This experience was not just about sharing a story; it was a journey of self-growth, and I knew I would be more confident in facing future English-related challenges.

A. Handing in homework on time. B. Getting used to the new life.

6. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Avoid mistakes in a new life. B. Learn to grow in difficult time.
C. Keep curious in high school life. D. Depend on others in difficulties.
7. What is a suitable title for the passage?
A. My Favorite Subject in High School B. The Confusing Life in High School

A After the global public health emergency.
B. After entering middle school.
C. Since TikTok became popular in 2023.
D. During summer holidays.
9. What is one benefit of online spaces for teens?
A It was discussed in all the 13 countries in the research.
B. It was more common in high-income countries.
C. It was closely related to school mental health.

第二节(满分25分)
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, the day of the story sharing arrived.
